This building is the oldest commercial building in all of Williamsburg, originally built and operated from 1740 to 1779.It is nearly three centuries old and the original structure. The store is operational today by selling authentic goods from local artisans, a favorite part of Colonial Williamsburg of mine, a truly functional 1700s Colonial town in every sense.
Theres a beautiful pair of hand forged pipe tomahawk for sale in the Prentis. Cool store
Fun little distraction for the kids. You get to dig in an actual excavation site. Kids should ideally be over five since the digging isnt easy. They do have an area for the real little ones. Its interactive and education, and theres an off chance you find something historical.
This store was advertised as having products made by the local artisans. That was true but very limited. Another store nearby had many of the same items. If youre looking for jewelry you are better off visiting the silversmith nearby. Rose head nails by the local blacksmith were three dollars each. Other places give them out for free. Overall, a few things of interest but a disappointment in the lack of locally made items.
This is a real store with products you can buy! Its not just as it was in those days. Enjoy your purchases as youll find lots to buy.
They close at 5 but were super accommodating when we walked in at 3 minutes after (knowing exactly what we wanted) and they didnt make use feel as if it was a bother because we were late. Very gracious. Didnt say...hey we are closed.
High quality merchandise in the spirit 18th century Colonial Williamsburg. Much of the product is hand-made by CW artisans. Not your ordinary tourist trap souvenirs. Generally pricey, but a wide range of price points represented. In the heart of the historic area on Duke of Gloucester St.
It is a wonderful experience not only for adults but for children to learn about the history of our country.
Absolutely love this store and everything about Williamsburg.
Gentleman working there ( who has a great impression by the way) is a pompous arse. Was looking to purchase one of the bird whistles and he came and took it and the entire box of whistles from me for no real reason.
Interesting wares. Prices are high, but fun to window shop.
Very interesting. All of the things for sale are handmade. Little pricey though.
I got a great deal on a fine piece of redware.
Great place. Beautiful place!! Great shopping.
Knowledgeable gentleman working Sunday afternoon.
Very rude store attendants. Told my 9 year old daughter to not carry her water in 100 degree heat. Which my husband apologized and closed the bottle. Stated things in store were paper goods that cost over 200 dollars and could be damaged. He asked the other visitors in the store of he was wrong for asking in a way everyone looked at him strangely over this. They should train Neil the rude attendant that us tourists are what keep this city alive and keep these stores open. Would not return to any of the stores in the area to spend our money. Would actually not return to Williamsburg area due to it not being child friendly. Area also seemed not attended well especially in the surrounding area saw only a blacksmith and tin making that were ok.
A great selection of ye ole goods for sale!
Great place to go and get something that was made in a Colonial Williamsburg trade shop. From nails, to bricks, to pieces of tin you can bring something home to remember your trip.
Very nice store for historical wares
Great recreation 1700s store
Everything in the Colonial Williamsburg is over priced, but it is a Tourist Attraction.
If you want to see how things were in the past, this is the place to visit. It was worth the visit
Colonial shopping at its finest.
