Simply put: outstanding!I rarely find a place that does everything right in my opinion but this place did. Immediately got seated in a nice little outdoor area, ice water and glasses ready at the table. The menu left no questions with its description of items and the wait staff was helpful as well. My burger was cooked to perfection, as was my egg. The potatoes were outstanding. And the hot sauce. Ive never had better anywhere. House made and sadly, not for sale.slight smokey flavor, very thick, not too spicy but still with kick. My wife greatly enjoyed her sandwich as well. If youre in the area this really needs to be a stop on your list. I know Ill be coming every time Im within an hours drive.
Passing by GemA full parking lot and minimal rustic country decor can only mean one thing....A warm and accommodating host, a cup of self serve fresh coffee and a small wait.Just enough time to work through a conversation and take in the warm ambience. The menu was reasonably priced, everything coming out of the kitchen looked like it was ready for a magazine cover shoot and taste was not lacking. The menu consisted of a world tour of selection from West African breakfast to Tuscany and American dishes.Eggs poached correctly (kudos) and home fries seasoned with a nice rosemary and sea salt finish. If I could have, I would have certainly worked my way through the whole menu...Perhaps another time.Enjoy!
My wife and I visited this lovely restaurant for brunch around 11:30 on a Monday. It was not super busy and we were seated immediately. We ordered the Cuban Breakfast and the Breakfast Burrito. We both thoroughly enjoyed the dishes that were packed with flavor and were appropriately portioned. We ended up sitting for a while after our meal to chat on the partly shaded patio where we were seated. This place has the atmosphere, the flavor, and the value that you look for in a casual dining experience. Would highly recommend and will return if we’re in the area again!
The Hoot is a top notch breakfast restaurant. This aint no 2 eggs over easy with bacon and toast little roadside dinner - not that theres anything wrong with that- but youve had that. Youve been to that restaurant; but youve never been to the Hoot. The menu is full of unique twists on familiar breakfast fare. I also liked the self serve coffee bar, which is such a common sense idea I am surprised they dont do it everywhere.
Elevated breakfast and brunch at its best. Worth the 1 hour drive. Everything made in house. Food Outstanding. Caring owner operated.
I came here for breakfast and the food was amazing. I got the African Shakshaka with pork belly and it was extremely flavor and delicious. Reasonable prices for farm to table. We sat outside and it was very lovely outdoor seating. Only complaint is that our 2 blood Marys took 15 mins to come out and our food literally took 1 hour from the time we placed our order to when we got it. Was not even that busy.
I would rate this as one of the best places in Maine that I have had brunch at. Its authentically farm to table and their food is not the usual brunch food. I loved their menu for its variety and uniqueness. The food tasted great. We ordered zucchini fritters, shashouka and French toast. Everything was perfect. The drinks were great too. Loved their ambience. Im definitely coming back for their themed dinners and bringing more people with me.
We stopped in here for brunch. On the plus side: The coffee was good, far better than your average fair. The food was good and the servings sizes were fine. The deck was a lovely place to hang out.On the down side: The service was marginal, at best. It took the front desk a good ten minutes to even notice us. Then we waited another five minutes to be seated, even though there were several open tables. Finally, our servers was inattentive and slow. She seemed primarily concerned with striking stylish poses while waiting for something to do. Ugh...All in all, the meal was fine, but you can do better.
Wow, what a delightful place! We had early brunch out on the patio and even though it was only ~48 degrees out we were still able to be comfortable. The huge mugs of hot chai definitely helped! They had a number of interesting loose teas to choose from. The donuts were hot and fresh. I’d definitely recommend them (they are huge so they’d be good for sharing).I also had the fried rice bowl, which was a really unique brunch item. The rice was crispy around the edges and well seasoned. It was a generous portion served in a beautiful bowl that kept it warm the whole time.I’m sad we’re not local so I can’t come here often but I’m putting a pin in it so I can remember to come back someday.
This is a great local favorite. Farm to table fresh, and full of flavor. The smoked ham Benedict is my favorite, but the breakfast sandwich is very tasty as well. You’ll likely have to wait, but they have a complimentary self-serve coffee bar with some very good locally roasted brews!
Oh my yum.Yall. The food was fantastic. We had a late brunch on a Saturday. The pumpkin bread french toast was amazing. I didnt even use syrup! It had a cream cheese frosting that was just the right touch. My husband had the butternut squash arugula omelette. It has ham so I tried a small bite w/o ham - it was the perfect amount of savory. A recipe Ill forever be trying to replicate. The Hoot has an adorable set up for a coffee bar. An assortment of mugs on a bookshelf with a serve yourself station. I think this just makes the experience so much more quaint and welcoming. The art on the walls was incredible. They have many pieces by local artists. One who uses items hes found to make his pieces. The crew that works at The Hoot really loves it. Theyre a really nice team, ready to help and answer questions their customers have.If I didnt live in TEXAS - wed be here every weekend.
The Hoot is magnificent. Excellent fresh food, locally sourced, hard to find craft beer and amazing mixed drinks makes the Hoot truly a hidden gem. John the owner and bartender for me tonight was very attentive and gave excellent conversation and recommendations. Im a tourist who travels up here for business a lot, and I have always wanted to try this place after hearing tons of rave reviews. I cant wait to come back. Well worth the trip. Reasonably priced for the top notch quality that it is. Thank you!
Amazing food and friendly professional staff. Worth a visit and frequent return visits. Breakfast and brunch are my normal but dinner should be experiences at least once if you can get a reservation and are in the area.
Never had a better Margarita. Creative food dishes, especially the Eggs Benedict at breakfast and brunch. This time of year (autumn) the place is particularly nice with the absence of tourists, i.e.. no crowds. Classy interior, big deck. They have their own farm which supplies the organic meat products. Real farm to table. Not sure if the farm is MOFGA organic certified though. Be nice if they had a sign saying so.
Lovely place. Our food took a long time, but it was worth the wait. It gave us time to finish a couple rounds of Bloody Marys and chat.
We enjoyed the Mexican Menu served this past Thursday evening at The Hoot. Our apps and meals were fresh and complex with flavor. Our Margaritas were awesome. Originally our reservation was for outdoors, however the weather moved us inside which the friendly staff was prepared for in advance. Looking forward to next time! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Expected much better. A little more than 40 min to receive our food. Temp was barely warm on all hot dishes. No one ever came by to check on table. And after a long wait had to hunt the staff down to pay. Appeared to be a home kitchen trying to serve a good size restaurant.
We went here for bunch. Everything from The meat to the veggies to the eggs were all from the famlies owned farms. It was refreshing to experience innovative dishes in rural Maine. I add an African dish with poached eggs that was something I think about having again to this day. My husband loved his pancakes! The mimosas were fresh and unique in flavor.
I had the buttermilk pancakes and they put something in them probably to give them a twist of some kind like lemon or something and I hated it. I wanted good old fashioned buttermilk pancakes I didnt care for the twists they added to it. It was disappointing. However the waitress was wonderful.
This was an amazing experience!! Experience encompasses this location completely because it was truly that: an experience. From the beginning you are greeted with kindness and hospitality, the self-serve coffee is amazing and the food is on another level. We will definitely be back again!
Excellent brunch! Varied menu. Good cocktails. Highly recommended.
I love this place! From their bloody Mary’s to the eggs Benedict, I have never had a single complaint. Jonathon is accommodating whether you have a small or large group they find a way to fit you in even on packed holiday weekends. Servers are always polite and professional. And the food!!! Farm fresh, prepared perfectly and served hot. I’d suggest my favorite but I have pretty much made it through the menu and can’t decide. I think it’s a tossup between the smoked eggs Beni and the brunch sandwich. This is a must try if you are anywhere in driving distance.BTW the prices are reasonable to top it all off.~MD
We were heading down from Bar Harbor to Camden, looking for a place for breakfast, and stumbled across a the Hoot. This is easily one of the best farm to table breakfasts we’ve ever had. The place is so quaint and cool, and overall well worth the wait. 5 stars all the wayP.S, get the apple cider donut, it was INCREDIBLE!!
This local has found her breakfast spot. Mondays are a tough gig for eating out, especially daytime, so I was thrilled to realize my day off is a day on here. Delicious, with outdoor seating, and solid service. Making this a regular thing.
The brunch is unreal. Loved the donut and loved the coffee (and picking which mug I wanted to use). Absolutely stop and eat here.
Farm to table restaurant that offers fantastic dishes, and the coffee is excellent. A great place for breakfast or brunch.
Excellent food, very popular. Nice outdoor seating as well
Wonderful meal. Will return often when in the area. Watch out for Theme nights. These are extra special.
Delicious. Great menu. Outdoor seating shaded by trees. Black currant iced tea, please.
Good food. Proper proportions. Self-serve coffee bar. Order a side to hold you over before the main arrives.
We were greeted by smiling faces, a beautiful bath of sunlight in the gorgeously renovated space, and, for lack of self control, a warm apple cinnamon donut. (Trust me, dont practice your self control here, it was the best donut Ive ever had!) Pro tip: donuts pair well with coffee, and their coffee is truly superb. You can even self-select your favorite mug from a great collection! The menu offered a delicious balance of brunch classics and unique creations inspired by chefs talents and strengths - theres something for everybody! The farm to table food was absolutely outstanding, the presentation a work of art, and the vibe of the whole place felt so inviting! We drove over 100 miles for this perfect morning with family and delicious food, and wed do it again in a heartbeat! Thanks to the crew at the Hoot, youre doing ALL the things right ❤
Great food but oh sooo slow.Tough for people to sit that long.
Wow. What an incredible brunch we just had at The Hoot. This farm-to-table restaurant excels at both quality of food and service. We started with an apple cider doughnut, made when we ordered it. It was covered with cinnamon and freshly hot. It is probably why I couldnt finish my eggs benedict entree. My wife only finished her breakfast sandwich because she gave me much more than a sampling to try. Both were wonderful and are highly recommended. Love this place!
Honestly ended up here because most other establishments were closed, and we liked the farm to table ethos. Got a reservation (Thank God, this place was packed) and arrived 2 minutes early, and seated about 10 minutes later. We consider that punctual as far as we are concerned, and everything was COVID kosher. A little surprised to find this was Monday Theme Dinner so our choices were Cuban dishes (only). However we appreciate a good theme, and these guys had fun with it with music and special cocktails and desserts. We tried the only entree (pork) as well as two small plates - picadillo (beef) and shrimp. The pork was fine but the small plates were AMAZING, seriously we stopped talking and just spoke about the great flavors. Great job chef! The owl decorations are fun, real candles on the table, decanters of water, just a nice stylish place. Only complaint is that we literally only saw our waitress to order, deliver all the food, and dropping off our check. We wanted more cocktails/beverages but she simply never was around for about 25 minutes. I will say every table appeared booked and everyone was hustling so maybe just busier than they anticipated. No water view but great food, locally staffed, with s talented kitchen - give it a go.
Dined in with 3 people. Our server was fantastic and attentive.I had the Mexican Benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly. The hollandaise was a great consistency and flavorful. The chorizo was great, and the black bean puree fit the dish perfectly. The hibiscus lemonade & gin cocktail was very refreshing on an 80 degree day!My partner had the breakfast sandwich, and our friend had the Indian lentil cakes. They both raved about their dishes too.My only constructive feedback is that I prefer breakfast potatoes to be brown and crispy, and on the 2 dishes that had them, they were soft and white. The seasoning on them was just right.Portion sizes were great for the price!! 5/5 stars, and we will definitely be back! Thanks for great brunch!
Food was great, Sri Lanken night was super interesting! 4 stars was for brunch. Was sat at a table within 10 minutes, however the food took about an hour to come out. All the staff were friendly, and the building had a very welcoming vibe.
Great brunch options. It has been a while since I had something this good for brunch. Several options for coffee as well. Great outdoor space. Very friendly staff.
Crazy good food, service and experience! Yes when in middle Maine this is your go to Brunch restaurant.Thank you for your excellence.
Saw a review that said the eggs Benedict were good so we went to try them. After an hour wait they arrived and were terrible. The Hollandaise was flavorless and the muffin was thick and doughy.
We have watched THE HOOT grow from the begiining. The restaurant is now one of our favorite places to go for Sunday Brunch! That is, as long as its about 745 am and there are ONLY 20 cars in the parking lot...Get the French Toast w local Maple Syrup or the Brunch Sandwich - We dont drink but friends say GET THE BLOODY MARY! My wife got the North African Green Shakazula (sp?)and next time the Middle Eastern Mujadeen (sp?)Excellent...just GO THERE
Look, 2 things you need to know: the best margarita Ive had - period. The best brunch, tacos and shakshuka - ever.
Fantastic food and service. Great casual atsmophere. Good coffee. Some unique menu options if you want to try something new.
Really enjoyed this place.intresting menu and excellent dining roomThey were busy(it was 4th of July weekend)but they got seated rite away and our meal was fabulousI had the eggs Benedict which was bursting with flavor and a great size portionMy wife had the Belgium waffle with the local ham that was just awesomeAgain a big thanks to the Hoot and we will be back
We enjoyed everything about the Monday night Italian dinner. Very much looking forward to coming back!
Pleasant service, great ambience, locals and tourists..farm fresh food
We just went here and had a fantastic breakfast! The food was fresh and good, the atmosphere was perfect and the service was good.
OMG the best Saturday night 5 course meal in the north east! Best food and.servive EVER!
Wonderful! Great food, good vibes! If youre feeling extra brunchy, get an apple cider donut too!
They were very busy. Service and food were excellent.
Very cool and eclectic spot to eat with a good brunch and bloody Marys. The owner was very nice.
It was ok, the chicken Benedict was fatty and chewy. The apple cider doughnuts were varying degrees of raw to burnt.
July, 2021 - Superlatives! The only words suitable to describe The Hoot, Northport, ME. Muchisimas gracias, you rock!
Simply phenomenal place. Really great service and a cool place. I got the breakfast sandwich because I saw peri peri chicken was involved and holy smokes, it was fantastic! Hot in just the right way and rich with the fried egg, so amazing. It was a big portion and I wouldnt normally indulge in the whole thing but it was absolutely incredible. They take reservations for parties of six or more! Less than that is first come first serve. But we didnt have to wait more than two minutes on a Sunday afternoon. They are so good here.
Try the shakshuka. WOW. Wow wow wow. That pork belly was just out of this world. Just wow.
Solid food, LONG wait and poor service. My partner and I arrived at the Hoot at ~ 10:40 am on a Monday morning. Several tables were open and only 1 other party waiting to be seated. Thought we would be able to have a nice quick brunch. Boy were we wrong. Waited for 5 mins to be seated, ~ 10-15 mins before the server took our order, 10-15 mins to get drinks. After waiting for 50 mins for our food, had to find the waitress to get an update on our meal. Waitress had poor communication, told us she wasn’t able to predict the time but thought it will be soon. Asked if we could at least get the doughnut we ordered. Brought the doughnut 5 mins later. It was another 15 mins for our food… finally received our meal. Solid food from scratch… owner definitely needs to reconsider how the kitchen is run. Good food but poor customer experience.
Wonderful spot, great service, tasty farm to table food
Fantastic. After reading some of the glowing reviews online, I wondered if The Hoot would be as good as people described or if I was setting myself up for disappointment... Well, it honestly is better than I could have hoped for! My wife and I love trying new breakfast/brunch/lunch places and this was truly the best brunch I think I have ever eaten. Stop looking online and go there. Just go. And enjoy!! 👍👍PS- Our server Carolyn is awesome!
An amazing place to eat all around. Portions are healthy( so on the lighter side) dont walk in expecting a overflowing typical American plate you will be disappointed. Pricing was good but could add up if you wanted to add sides. The lovely fix to get the best of both worlds and not spend to much we found was my bf ordered the waffle, which is all that came as a meal, and I ordered the basic breakfast which came with a meat/egg/toast/potatoes. We split the two meals and it was perfect... Healthy homegrown food, light comfortable portions, lovely atmosphere, friendly welcoming staff!!! And the coffee.... out of this world...!!! All this adds up to a lovely place to eat!!!
This place has a great idea, the owners both have farms where they grow all the vegetables and meat and they create dishes and sell it in the restaurant. Was really excited to try this place, the night we came wasFrench Night they are only open for 2 dinners on Thursdays and Mondays and they do a theme. They was only 1 Entree choice and they had 4 or 5 choices for small plates. So we tried 3 of the small plates and then the entree. The French onion soup was first and it was not really that flavor, it tasted very flat, we didnt finish it. We had Ratatouille, it was great, all fresh vegetables and super great flavor, we all loved it. We had shrimp in white wine sauce it was also really great and flavorful but I dont think the shrimp are local. Then the entree came, it was chicken, beef and pork cheek in lentils and beans. But the dish was a big disappointment. For having so much in the dish and so many ingredients it lacked something and out of 4 of us, we shared 2 entrees and didnt finish either, it just was so bland no one wanted to eat it.I think this place looks beautiful and I really hope they succeed because everyone is so nice and I love the idea of what they are doing, but the night we went we just left not really feeling that happy and felt like it was just and average place.
Love at first sight, enchantment at first bite! I am seriously considering moving to Maine to be a part of this amazing establishment. The idea of true farm to table food, from its own farm done right! The fried chicken eggs benedict I just consumed was by far the most amazing eggs benedict I have ever had (Ive had eggs benedicts from coast to coast) the hollandaise sauce was off the coast! The from scratch english muffin couldnt have been done better, as the amazing foundation on which this amazing creation sat. I highly recommend this place! We are coming back for dinner!! Id gladly work on the farm just to proudly be a part of this. Well done! My complements to the team. This was created with more love than just the chefs (though the chef nailed the creation and assembly of the amazing, fresh ingredients).
My girlfriend and I ate at the hoot today and had a wonderful experience. Great atmosphere and service. We both had the brunch sandwich on focaccia with a side of potatoes. The sandwich was huge and delicious. I had a coffee (hot and bold) she had a mimosa. Planning on going back before they close in November.
Very delicious brunch options in a cozy setting.
We had the apple cider donut and a couple seasonal options and it was all incredibly delicious. It seems like the staff is just one giant workhorse, theyre always buzzing around making sure everything is clean and wiped down and filling peoples drinks. All around great staff, delicious food, and nice ambiance.
Excellent breakfast/brunch choice,very good
We thought this was among the most memorable meals we had all year. The fried chicken benedict and apple pancake were our favorites, and the seasonal omelette and bloody Mary were equally lovely. Ask for a side of hot sauce with your potatoes, because whatever it is is delicious. Definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere nearby.
Excellent surroundings and unique food choices.
The Hoot has fabulous meals, we go frequently. However todays visit was a disappointment. What I ordered was not what was delivered. They offered to send out the correct meal, however we had set at the table waiting for our meal for an hour and a half, I certainly wasnt going to wait longer. This is not their usual service so I will be back but it was frustrating and no apology was given.
We had brunch and a specialty Korean meal here, both of which were really incredible. The smoked ham in their eggs Benedict was unlike anything I’ve ever had. Their coffee is pretty terrible, though—a shame to sully an otherwise impeccable dining experience with something that tastes like it came from a cheap hotel’s breakfast buffet.
Always a great experience! Delicious food, great service and team work! The best brunch, exceptional coffee and donuts. Gorgeous inside and out on the deck. Would recommend for all- couples, families etc.
Weve really been meaning to stop by, and finally we did. Very accessible off of Highway 1 with ample parking. We sat outside, for breakfast, and even with the occasional truck sound from the road, it felt very peaceful. The food was so simply amazing. We had the breakfast burrito, which looks like it could serve 12, and the simply incomparable lemon ricotta pancakes with Maine Blueberries. Lots of side items and drinks available, including breakfast beers, mimosas and Bloody Marys. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and quick to provide anything we needed. The prices are very, very reasonable and Im ashamed we dont stop more often, but that is going to change.
Delicious farm to table fare and great service. Great outdoor seating area. Good place for a brunch party :~)
Great local sourced food!
Always awesome!
This place had dishes on the menu from almost every continent and most of what I had wasnt any better than just average. We ordered the chicharrones, arancini, duck spring rolls, and fries for appetizers, and the beef panang curry and the Greek lamb dish for our main course and only the duck spring rolls were above average. Everything else was either ok or not very good. The service was great though. The peach cake we ordered for dessert was just a few slices of peach between 2 bone dry pieces of sort of sweet kind of burnt bread held together with whipped cream. Very trendy without much taste. Its unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place. This was my first time going to a farm to table restaurant.
The food was fresh and locally sourced. Service was impeccable. If you and yours havent been youre missing out.
Hands down one of the best breakfast. The North African Shakshuka is easily one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had. I highly recommend it!
Great breakfast with high quality ingredients and attention to detail. Very tidy restaurant with a nice outside dining area. Try the bloody mary its nice!
Not your average breakfast. Red flannel hash was excellent. Best apple cider donut I have ever had.
Such a gem, we went for brunch and all four of us were delighted for a first experience. Definitely looking forward to trying dinner there next.
Came here for an early Saturday brunch on the porch. It was really amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Can’t wait to come back. Make sure to call for a reservation.
This place is really nice. I liked the decor-kind of rustic. The menu had so many great options it was hard to choose. We all really enjoyed our meal. The server was nice and accommodating. Definitely will be back!
Great breakfast. Cute place. Had pancakes with apples and granola. Yummy. Coffee was superb!
Great place, Love that you can pick your own coffee mug!! All different ones too cool! Coffee definitely delicious! All the right accoutrements. Food was great sweet potato pineapple hash with eggs and many other yummy items on the menu. Decadent dark chocolate waffles with fresh strawberries. Highly recommended!!
What a gem! A must try! You must go out of your way and try this place. We will definitely be back.
The Hoot is a must stop! Beautiful place. The food is amazing! So flavorful! The staff are very friendly.
