Really nice place and it is authentic, we stopped by to get lunch after the beach, I love these kind of places, but to be honest, there is room for improvement service wise.We had to keep asking for little things like spoon and some sugar with cappuccino, salt, napkins and stuff like that. We also felt rushed with the check. But I will despite all this come back for sure. Rustic tart with vanilla ice cream is amazing ππ»
What a great place to spend a perfect patio dinner on a warm summer night. Had a view of the lake from our table. Not a sweeping view, but lovely. After a hot day the cool lake breeze was perfect. The food and service was also spot on. The salmon was cooked perfectly. I think that says it all. Thank you for making my day today. Keep doing what youβre doing.
Nice place in a pleasant setting. Weve been going there for decades and always enjoy our time there. The choice to be able to browse the market is nice, particularly if you need to wait for a table, and even more particularly if you enjoy the process of picking a wine to go with your food. Extensive wine lists (to be fair, theirs is somewhat limited but acceptable) are all well and good, but being able to look at the actual bottles is more fun. We chose a red, but they offer to chill as needed. The food on offer is unapologetically focused on pasta variations, but there is a wide enough range of choices to support multiple visits. I would call the price range medium-high, though given the location that is to be expected. But also given the location, parking is free and easily accessible, which is a definite plus. What cost them a star from me is the service. If you are going to charge for it like they do the service should be seamless. Everyone was nice, but one gets the feeling that they are still coming out from a quarantine mindset there are definitely a few gaps in the process. We chose to eat inside, but the outside was more crowded and, understandably, better staffed. The folks tending to us were distracted and somewhat inattentive. This is not exactly a destination place, but if you are looking for something in the area they are definitely worth trying. We will be back.
Wow, 1st impression was great. The handmade pizzas were right in front of me. The market had so much variety to offer. Had a bit of a drive ahead if me with no way to keep things cold so I just bought some pastry items. These were amazing. Cannot wait to get back here when things open up. The cafe is calling me.
My wife and I had just finished having our meal and wrapping up w/dessert. with just a few bites left we were approached by the manager and asked to leave because they needed the table. Of course she does this after we just paid the $170 tab (tip not included).Now someone w/proper management skills would have offered to seat us somewhere else but not her. I personally never liked this place....generic, fake Italian food. My wife, she likes the place and its right around the corner from our house.Anyway, I hope the owner of this establishment reads this and has a conversation with their managers on how to approach their patrons.My response to the owners response regarding time limits on tables. Thanks for acknowledging my complaint. My wife and I are frequent diners and we ALWAYS try to frequent local small businesses. I COMPLETELY understand and do not have any issues w/time limits. My issue with your manager is the way she handled the situation. Also, if shes going enforce the time limit policy then perhaps it would be best if your servers would be a bit more attentive. We patiently waited nearly 15 minutes before our order was taken.Anyway, thank you again for your response to my complaint and I wish you and your staff all the best. I see many 5 star reviews....I guess the manager that day (Sunday) wasnt on point.
Great menu and great all-around dining experience. Covid has been TOUGH on the restaurant industry, but Convito seems to be weathering the storm considerably better than a lot of their colleagues. I.e., the food has retained the solid quality +value that its maintained for years. That being said, its very hard right now to get full staffing for wait staff, etc., so things might be a bit slower than in the past- but be patient: you will get good food, good service, and a great overall experience.

Delightful room for good food. Went for lunch this time. The non-operating air conditioning didnt take away from the food. Our favorites: mussels, onion soup and carrot cake. On the way out stop by the wine department, deli and bakery.
Party of three, each ordered something different and every dish was delicious! So nice to eat outside and be able to see a tiny sliver of the lake.
Disappointed, salmon with capers lemon butter sauce. The fish was over cooked the sauce could be better. It came with wild rise with spinach, absolutely tasteless. The service was slow.
With the new rules and armed with at least one shot, we went back. They have divided the seating area with screens which we found charming and actually romantic. It contributed to a nice Valentines dinner, and we would be happy to see that remain. And it was nice to see all the tables occupied.They are so careful with following the rules that we felt very comfortable, something we will remember when we get back to normal. The food and service were as good as they were a year ago, with the white bean soup being one of my favorites on a cold snowy night.
Celebrating French cuisine, this space is all about quality and flavor. Every item in the menu is thoughtfully planned, paired with the best food combination. They have some amazing desserts as well. Creme BrΓ»lΓ©e was one of the best I tasted here at Chicago. Restaurant menu is slightly priced high, but definitely the quality food and service and flavor makes it all worth it.
The cafe offers a wide variety of menu and deli options. Sitting on the patio on a warm day with a sunny sky was a pleasure. Indoor dining is available.

Ordered a take-home family meal for Thanksgiving. Everything was packaged wonderfully and ready on time. Food was amazingly delicious - even reheated the next day. We especially loved the stuffing, roasted Brussel sprouts and mashed potato parmesan boules.

I have been here a few times but never left a review as I was not sure about what this place is, a cafe, a restaurant, a store..in fairness is all of them together which in the end is taking away something from each of them. Coffee is okish, food is fine but not exceptional and the market is a bit pricey. Still, a nice place to sit down and have something possibly in a good company.

Nasty Cobb Salad! The grilled, sliced chicken cold not warm what so ever, eggs cold just horrible. I should have gone to Portillos and had one of their delicious Cobb Salads! I know they are a food chain, but isnt it great to know they do a great job on Cobb Salad, their grilled chicken on the salad is warm, tastes great and everything else in it! Unfortunately Convito Cafe has two thumbs down for me! And yes, I noticed the responses from the owner when someone posts something negative. Responses are rude, and tasteless like their food, oh did I forget to mention COLD as well!!

Get the cioppino! It is delicious, packs a ton of flavor. They have two different sizes, I got the smaller of the two and ended taking it to my brothers house. There was so much leftover that they had plenty for the both of their dinner. I saw bigger groups that, had a couple large ones, on their table and they were just sharing it. Great idea!
Super fresh salads, yummy entrees and great wine selection in the market. Far superior to Whole Foods or Marianos and really not much more expensive. Worth every penny!
Not very Vegan friendly. Service was disappointing. Bean soup and bread was very good, but all of the pasta is made with eggs. Called ahead to ask about vegan entries and was told that it was not a problem only to discover that they could only offer soup and salad for dinner. Romantic moment interrupted by over aggressive bus boy. They need to train their staff better.
First visit, and food was delightful. White bean soup just right, tarragon chicken very tasty. Waiter was attentive to our group and we were served promptly. When ordering, note that portions are on the large side, justifying the price. My only hesitation was the noise level hindering conversation, but that may vary in different parts of the room as well as with how crowded the place gets. Definitely will consider a return trip if I am in the area.
Went there for a late lunch with a friend and it was terrific. Loved the service and the food and even bought some wine in their market. I had the Trio Salad Special and my friend and I split the Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding, which was also really good! Ill definitely be going back!

Excellent lunch of tuscan bean soup and crepe filled with roasted turkey, zucchini, cauliflower and pesto sauce. Such a cozy, warm place with terrific service and a menu to meet every need.

So far this is the worst place for food weve been, (and weve been in bad places). The place is in a nice area and looks kind of cozy; the coffee was good, the water was good, the salt and the pepper shakers was great. The waiter had an attitude right away, when I didnt order nothing else than water and a soup. My husband asked for another kind of soup that was really bad (horrible), with a bitter taste, like the vegetables used for it were old or something, he also asked for a pizza and that was a joke actually. It was a flat bread instead, no sauce, the meat with no flavor, the size very tiny and was overpriced.
My mother adores this place, and there arenβt many other places in the neighborhood with consistently good food that are quite so moderately priced and inviting. Worth a visit.

I just got home from dinner st Convito. I ordered the special pasta fruit de mare. I think the pasta and sauce were warmed over from yesterday. The seafood was mediocre at best. Youβd think an Italian restaurant could get pasta right. I wonβt be back.
My familys favorite local restaurant. When I come home for a visit it just doesnt feel complete without a visit. Great fresh bread and pasta. Love their white bean soup and their ceasar salad.
My wife and I stopped here on a beautiful sunny Sunday.The atmosphere was very nice, the food was good.The service was terrible! No butter for the bread, no salt/pepper on the table. The waitress was not seen but twice. One young couple with two children waited and no one ever bothered to wait on them. If you are on the north shore and want lunch, keep driving!

Ive only ever been during lunch time, and if you get there before 12 youll have no trouble getting a table. It does fill up, mostly with septuagenarians, but the service does not suffer. The food is good and their special, the Trio of cold salads and mixes is quite good and changes regularly. Their beginners and entrees are always satisfying and the soups are nice on a cold day.The market portion has great, high-quality items but at a premium. I generally only try to buy their house-made raviolis even though they, too, are expensive, as anything else can mostly be gotten elsewhere for less. Worth a visit to see the charming, italian-style shop and have a nice meal.

My friend and I have enjoyed dining at Convito for many years. The last couple of times that we have visited Convito, we have felt unwelcomed. Last night we enjoyed a wonderful meal, but the wait staff was anything but friendly. Our water was set down on our table in the same fashion as a dead fish would be slapped down on a meat counter. This would be the last time that our water glasses were touched. Our bread was tossed onto our table in the same way. No smile, no greeting and certainly no eye contact. This treatment definitely came from the male waiters. Our waitress was very kind and actually saved me from begging my friend to go elsewhere for dinner...perhaps Olive Garden??We tip well and are VERY low maintenance, so I am extremely confused as to why the waiters need to be so....... snobby??? If I want this kind of treatment Ill eat at Ed Debevics where it is actually funny.The food was good, but I dont care to ever go back.
