Amazing work! They completely transformed the Eastlake furniture I brought them. The furniture was in terrible shape after sitting in a basement for 20 years; Martin Custom Wood made them look like new! I barely recognized them. I will continue to use their services for all my future projects! The chairs and sofa turned out better than I could have even imagined.
I called for a repair quote for a 37 year old rocker. I know that seeing an item can provide a more accurate quote than a verbal description, however, she barely let me get in a word to explain what I have that needs repair. I stated that i know that caning work can be expensive and so i was wondering if she could give me a base quote in knowing that the chair needed cane in both the back and the seat. She couldnt even do that. She just said, If youre calling around, were the best! No one is ever dissatisfied. I have someone in my office righr now so just bring it by. We are at [###] Wrightsville ave... And to me that is a red flag....especially after reading all the other reviews. The chair needs quite a bit of work that i am willing to pay for to have it fixed, but they will not be getting any of my business based on the customer service alone. Im sure there are many other satisfied customers who do not post, but the initial call was very off putting. I have not made a decision, but the man who answered the phone at Heritage furniture restoration was happy to answer my questions and provide me with a base quote for the cane alone, so at least i know where I stand beginning price wise. Youd think that with the economy the way it is, people would want to treat their [potential] customers with a little more kindness and respect than I was just treated.
These guys are FANTASTIC!!! We had been fighting with Furniture Land South for over 18 months over a piece that they kept shipping broken. Finally gave up and asked the Martin team to make the piece from scratch. They built our large custom dining room cabinet to spec and did an awesome job. Also much cheaper than the retailers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Had several antique Hitchcock chairs broken during our move to North Carolina. Curtis did a fantastic job repairing the broken spindles and restoring the finish to look perfect. He also restored the top of a damaged antique cherry dining table and repaired cracks in the drop leaf of each side. The work was superb. His price was very reasonable. Would highly recommend his work and will certainly use him again if needed.
My grandparents recently had several pieces of furniture suffer water damage during Florence. Martin and his wife were recommended to us by the insurance adjuster. We just received the furniture back and it is absolutely perfect. They did a wonderful job and were great to work with.
I was referred to Martin Custom Woodworking by Samson International, the manufacturer of a gentlemens chest purchased from Costco that needed repair. Samson was great! They moved quickly to process my furniture claim and contacted Martin Custom Woodworking to notify them of my needed repair and stated Martin Custom Woodworking would be in touch with me. After a couple of days, Samson followed up with me to see how things were going. I stated I had not yet heard from Martin Custom Woodworking. They apologized and said they would reach out to Martin Custom Woodworking again. That day I received a voicemail from Sheryl apologizing for not calling sooner, and to set up an appointment. Instead of calling back, I decided to go directly to their shop the next day to schedule the appointment since I live minutes away.Upon arrival I met with Jake and Sheryl. What surprised me was that Sheryl could not recall the nature of the call the day before or what my repair request was. My first impression was that the company was disorganized. We scheduled for Jake to come out early the next morning to assess the repair. It was stated that they assess the damage first, then come out again to perform the repair. I believe this is the policy of the claim organization they subscribe to, and I was ok with that.Jake arrived the next day, August 22, on time. He determined the fix to require two shims behind the drawer slides. He put temporary paper shims in place and said he would cut wood shims at the shop and drop them by in the next few days. I said that would be fine. Before leaving, he asked that I sign the claims document stating the repairs had been completed and were satisfactory, this was under the understanding that he would return with the wood shims (that was my mistake!).Now October 5, I have yet to hear back from Martin Custom Woodworking. I never received the wood shims. I never received a follow-up phone call. Nothing. Im sure they have since submitted the claims paperwork and received their payment for the job.Needless to say, I made my own shims and will not be recommending Martin Custom Woodworking. I give 2 stars for showing up on time and quickly diagnosing the problem. However, the companys customer service is greatly lacking.Samson, on the other hand, was fantastic and extremely customer oriented!
I am not sure I can believe the legacy this company claims. After the completion of the job, my armoire looked more like a used Goodwill appliance than it did before the work was started. After they made corrections, it looked the same. These guys are complete amateurs. Unbelievable.
I just had an 1840 English cabinet repaired and dropped off this morning. The work looks fine, as far as I can see inside the crate, but the customer service and communication between the husband and wife team is atrocious. It ended up costing us an extra $300 that they were unwilling to change. They also replaced fabric I specifically asked them NOT to replace. The wife does not communicate any information to her husband. So if you decide to go with this company, get everything in writing with a detailed list of repairs and speak with Curtis when doing so. Only do scheduling with his wife as no information is passed from one to the other. I honestly wish I could go back and hire someone else.
Great advertising. Absolutely worst employees with no skill. This company is a hoax!
Very professional and reasonable. Glad to find them.
Absolutely the best in Wilmington!
