If I could give e negative feed back they would get -5. Im planning to redo my deck and build a pergola at a same time so, I told Aaron about my project. I requested 4x6 rather than 6x6 I figured I could make it happen....ok, I will start with the phone call for delivery and I was told $25 when I go to the store Aaron codes me $45 telling me she does not know what she was talking about and then he started by insulting me by telling me the size difference and the quality of his wood vs anywhere else and was going to change me $19 a board for 1x6x8 (really) so I cancelled that and stayed with 4x6. Them knowing what I need it for, I received the worst quality you could find in a supposedly quality wood....splits and cracks everywhere. I was plan6to spend around $2000 to $3000 on this project...you will never find me near this place.What a shame👎👎👎update:So since last year posts have split in half and I had to take them down.This is the worst experience ever.This company does not care about their locations and the products they sale to public, specially this location. They should be shutdown.

The prices are fair, the lumber quality is very good,The Mike J., Cal and the rest of the staff at the Suffolk store are friendly and professional.84 lumber beats the big home stores on many levels

I really hate to leave a negative review, but dont waste your time if you are building a new home and you want them to give you material pricing. They will completely lie to you and wont do anything.

Lumber 84 in Suffolk, VA is among the worst, in my experience, customer service oriented businesses I have dealt with in many years. I have been at this location many times and it appears that their culture is to not service customer as they walk in. Every single time Ive been at this location employees tend to disregard, ignore or just simply give no attention to the purpose of my visit. They give the impression that they just simply dont like walk ins because they dont have the time to wait on them. It appears that walk-ins are just a bother rather than considering its customer that comes to purchase lumber.To top it off, they dont even notify customers when a scheduled delivery has been delayed for days due to non-receipt of materials. I placed a call to follow up on my delivery that was not delivered on the scheduled date and at that time I was told the order was delayed. The issue is that they didnt even have courtesy to inform me about this delay until the day the materials were supposed to be delivered. It was only when I called inquiring about my undelivered ordered that they informed my order had been delayed. By the time I was informed about this delay I had already incurred in labor costs waiting for the materials.In a nutshell the service at this location is highly detrimental for small a business...I recommend large purchases of lumber be made a other locations such as maybe Lowes, Home Depot or some other customer service oriented lumber yards.I normally dont write reviews, but because this business has been so lousy repeatedly with their customer service I had to write this review.

They dont actually want to sell anything. I came in a week ago looking for a prehung exterior door. I understand some supply houses not wanting to hand-hold homeowners, but as soon as I said I wanted a door I was told they dont stock them, I guess to try to get me to go away. What I wanted would have to be ordered anyway no matter where I went. The person helping me pulled out an order sheet, and I asked what brands they carry. He didnt have a clue and said hed have to call their distributor with my specs to find out. I told him I wanted a 36x80, fiberglass, prehung entry door, right hand outswing, with composite frame and composite brickmould. That was a week ago, and my phone hasnt rang. They obviously need a door and window guy and they at least need to train a few employees about what they carry. I guess Home Depot will appreciate the sale, their door salesman was knowledgeable and was able to order exactly what I wanted.

I ordered a shed kit to be delivered 4 weeks ago. It was delivered last week with damaged parts, many missing parts and some wrong plywood. I called with the list of missing parts (1 of which they said were right there with them at the store). A driver came out the next day with 2 of the 4 hinges that I needed and the wrong size plywood and the parts that were there in the store were not in the truck. That was Friday.I heard nothing from them for the next 5 days. I called them Wednesday. I was told they were still trying to track down some parts (including the ones I was told were in the store previously.) Eric told me that I would have everything by Friday.I waited until 2 minutes before they closed (with no contact or delivery) to call and cancel the whole thing and get a refund. Well see how that process goes.They had a total of 4 weeks to get the parts ready and couldnt get it right. I took 3 days off of work to get this built and not 1 board got cut. Ill just buy the material from HD and save $200. At least I know it will be built with sturdier (thicker) materials and I wont be missing anything.

The service form this company to fix a small gap in my backdoor that was leaking air was astoundingly horrible. After the builder walked through the home with me, he passed the work order onto 84 Lumber to fix. A month later we hadnt heard from anyone, so I contacted our builder. They let me know that the part was on back order, and 84 Lumber should have contacted us to let us know that. They didnt. After another month, I receive an email from our builder stating that 84 Lumber has tried contacting me to no avail. However, they NEVER called me. Once I emailed back that they had not, they promptly called and left a message that they would be in the area the next week. I returned the call, and reached the voicemail of Max - let him know when I was available, and to call me back. Two days later, I emailed the builder AGAIN to let them know my phone call went unreturned. Sure enough, 10 minutes later, they call to set up an appointment. I stated SPECIFICALLY what time I would be available, and yet again they mess up. The contractor shows up an hour early (nobody was home) and proceeded to call my phone multiple times within 30 minutes. I then received a TEXT (I never stated that they should ever text, I asked for phone calls and voicemail) that he was at my home. When I called Max, he let me know he wrote down the wrong time, but that the contractor must have finished early and that was why he was at my house early...So he either wrote the wrong time, or ignored the time frame I was available. The gentlemen that showed up walked across my floor and then proceeded to walk back and remove their shoes. My whole experience was unprofessional and I really hope I never have to work with them again. How they stay in business after so many terrible reviews is beyond me.

I really do not understand what the people below are talking about when they gave bad reviews on the service of this location. My first time dealing with them was calling over the phone and I spoke with a person named Buddy. He was professional, polite and gave great suggestions on other places that may help me if they could not get my product in on time when I needed it. The reviews below do not reflect my experience with 84 lumber in Chesapeake VA. Great customer service in my opinion.

Consistently better pricing than big box stores, better lumber, and employees that know what they talking about. Shout out to Aaron, Mike, and the whole team there for working during Covid and helping me out when I broke my hand.

I dont know who or where you get your doors from but theyre horrible. Another job where the doors delivered have the top jamb cut too short, leaving absolutely no reveal between the top sides of the door and the side jambs. Absolutely ridiculous. Now need door stop to replace the top piece because of how much I had to spread the top of the jambs just so the door CAN OPEN AND SHUT PROPERLY.😠😠😠

I walked in to purchase materials for a building project. No inventory to speak of. A few employees were in there and other than staring at me like I had six heads, no one greeted me or offered to help. I spent ten minutes being ignored and left. Wont be going back.

ANDERSEN WINDOWS CAME FROM 84 LUMBER INSTALLED IN 2009, THEY ARE SMOKING OVER AND WARPING BAD AND BLOCK NO OUTSIDE NOISE AT ALL.84 LUMBER GAVE ME A PHONE NUMBER AND TOLD ME TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM MYSELF.
