Awesome store for outdoor supplies. Came in for two pieces of climbing-specific gear and got exactly what i needed. As a bonus the person that helped us was a climber (David) and showed us an easy way to tie a safe anchor with the rope we bought! I love this store and would recommend it to anyone in the area!

This is a great store to get outdoor gear! The staff are super friendly and helpful and give great recommendations for products. The selection isnt as wide as a place like REI, but they have all the top outdoor gear brands and a good selection of earth-friendly clothing!I really appreciate that staff are following CDC recommendations and wearing masks in the store! Everyone was super nice and helpful! I thought I had more time but I had to run out of there but in the short time I was there I was able to determine the hiking boots I needed even though they didnt seem to have my size available in store as they were out of a lot. I was able to find some online.

Ive been coming here for years, this is one of my favorite places to shop for hiking, kayaking stuff. The people who work here are phenomenal, and always willing to help with questions (alot of which they had no obligation to answer, like tips for camping and hiking locally). I can bring my dog in, and a feel comfortable knowing Im getting good products.My only complaints are prices are pretty high, but you could say that of just about anywhere nowadays. And for supporting a local business who helps people get outdoors responsibly, I dont mind it. And sometimes they dont have all the brands and all the gear Id like to get (hyperlite, Hennessy hammocks, a few others), but for being a small local shop, I feel they do extremely well.Ill shop here anytime I need outdoor gear.Edit: to all the cry babys who are complaining about having to wear a mask, walk on. Its a minor inconvenience that could potentially save lives, and is mandated by the state. Youre putting employees and their families at risk by not complying. Its interesting how people have made a global pandemic into a national political issue somehow. I really appreciate great outdoor following through on this policy, and will continue to support them.

Good quality items and brands.

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I try to buy local more purposefully nowadays and I was able to get exactly what I wanted here (MSR Windburner). I wish they carried more like some of the MSR accessories I wanted to add to my kit but for a local store I am happy with the selection. I have picked up several items here before and I am sure I will be back again.Oh you can bring your dog that is always a plus

If you want to shop at a place that makes you feel valued, this is the place to go. They are all very knowledgeable about what they sell and happy to educate you about things. Weve bought several kayaks from them, and they are the only source well consider for any future boat purchases.

I have tried to shop here and give them my business whenever I have needed something even if it was more expensive than online because I believe in supporting local businesses but NEVER again. I walk in and begin to shop and am quickly stopped and informed that if i do not put a mask on i can shop from the curb...yes, shop from the curb. Sorry guys, I have spent a ton of money in your particular store but never again, you lost a customer forever.

Love the store since they finished updating the inside. They have a wonderful selection of 🧥outerwear, down jackets, 🥾boots, hiking sandals, equipment and socks for any season or sport. They also have great products for travel like wicking clothes and storage for long hauls. They also have ♿ handicap accessible parking, entrances, and a restroom.

Great experience! I saw some Xtratuf Salmon Sisters ankle rain boots in the store last week and came back today to try them on. Swain told me all about the shoes and gave me lots of info about different hiking shoes I’d been looking at. Extremely kind and helpful! I feel much more educated about the hiking shoes and I left purchasing the rain boots. I’ll definitely be returning in the future to purchase some hiking boots 😁 Thanks guys!

Cool place to get legit stuff. Prices are incredibly high, as you see other people mention. REI, AMAZON, and other places can be up to 30 percent less for the same items. This place isnt a big chain so of course they have to make their money, but sometimes its hard to swallow the price tags.Make sure you know the return policy well. Was told by an associate at a previous check out, with no mention of quality of returned item, that if I had the receipt that it would be returnable.Of course they wont take back an item abused and thoroughly used, but I did return an item I had worn once and the way the item, and I, were questioned was as if I had bought it just to use and return to the store. I felt a little cheapened by the way it was handled seeing as you can spend 400 dollars on 2 items in a heart beat. I felt like wearing an item once, using it for its intended purpose and returning it, is well with in the parameters of a good return policy.All around good place to have dealings with.

Staff is always so helpful! Shopping yesterday for hammocks and a sleeping bag, which we needed to keep within a budget. They talked through our needs and then pointed us to a great quality bag on sale for 40% off - and we were still well under budget. So appreciative of a sales staff that takes the time to really understand your needs and help you find the best gear for your needs, weighing the pros and cons of each option against anticipated use, budget, etc.

Great Outdoor is a fantastic one-stop shop for anything outdoors or outerwear with high quality name brand offerings. I have shopped at both the Winston-Salem and Greensboro stores and would highly suggest this store to anyone. My only complaint is that when I received a jacket as a Christmas gift from the store, the product was gift wrapped in a rolled up-type package which left this jacket heavily creased and wrinkled all over. The only way i have found to eliminate the issue is to iron the jacket out. This is not a huge issue, I just suggest maybe a new method of gift-wrapping in the future.

The staff at this Winston Salem store was so incredibly rude. I would have gone anywhere else to buy what I needed but unfortunately they were the only ones that carried what I needed. I can assure you that I will never go back to this location though. I was so appalled by their behavior towards me.

I recently went to Great Outdoor Provision to purchase a gift for my dad. There were plenty of options to choose from. I asked the employees for guidance and suggestion of an item I should buy for him, and they were very helpful. I was able to purchase a shirt and they looked in the back room for a different size. The staff here are always willing to help and will provide the best experience for you.

Great selection of outdoor gear. I have shopped here for years as I enjoy supporting local. The reason for the 2 star review is based on my most recent experience. I purchased an item and paid with cash, actually mentioning to the guy ringing me up that I was probably going to have to return it and he didnt mention anything about a cash return policy. Upon returning the item a few days later, the lady doing the return informed me that they do not refund cash purchases over $50 and I would have to receive a check in the mail and she brought her manager over to process the return. I mentioned to the manager that it would be helpful to know the cash return policy as I would have just used my card if I had known to make things simple. He was very rude and told me that it is on the receipt and that should be enough. I was quite taken aback by his brusqueness as I was polite and just trying to make suggestions to help other customers in the future. Obviously now that I knew it wouldnt be a problem for me going forward. I politely pointed out that putting it on the receipt is late as it is after the transaction has already occurred. Perhaps a sign on the counter with their cash policy would be helpful? He cut me off as I was speaking without even making eye contact with me and said he was just going to give me back my money anyway despite the policy so I could stop talking, as if I had angered him and he couldnt get me out of the store fast enough. I left very disappointed in my experience as I have been a loyal shopper for years and now will not be returning because of how I was treated by the manager. Its sad because every other experience I have had with their staff has been excellent over the years, including the sweet girl who started my return. If he would have just been kind it would have been fine. Kindness goes a long way.Update: The manager reached out to me and I learned it was actually an assistant manager that I was interacting with that day. The manager was kind and apologetic and I am happy with the resolution of this issue. Maybe one day Ill even venture back in to shop :)

But I did want to take a moment to give a big shout out to Ward and the rest of the gang at Great Outdoor Provision Co.!! They truly went above and beyond to help get me out on the water in the ss107!! Not only was it great customer service, but I could definitely feel the passion Ward and the rest of the team have to get people connected with the outdoors. I had a perfect experience here. I went to buy some hiking shoes for an upcoming hike. I did a little research, but the sales person was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I got the perfect shoes for a good price. They ended up performing exactly how I needed them to on the hike. Definitely going back.

I dont think Ive ever actually bought anything here, but I love checking this place first because of the staff. They are SO friendly, in a generous and genuine way, and theyll help me as much as they can, even if that means suggesting another retailer for what I need.The store is pleasant to walk through and has kind of a cabin-y feel with creaking wood floors. The merchandise is plentiful but not crowded.I am not a sporty person, nor an outdoorsy one, so I dont buy a lot of specialized clothing or equipment and therefore cant really judge the value of those things here. I just wanted a light rain jacket for walking around London, not a reinforced, padded, breathable, waterproof specialty jacket, so the items here looked quite expensive to me. They may be industry standard though; I just dont have the expertise to say.If you ARE sporty or outdoorsy, swing by here first. Theyre super nice, and you can at least have a pleasant experience.

Great place to go. It’s t has a nice rustic feel that makes you feel like you are out in a log cabin while purchasing camping gear or other items. In addition, there is a great selection of items along with friendly staff.

I love this place Ive been shopping here for years. One thing to know about this place is that its mostly geared for the professional outdoorsman. The goods that they sell are priced appropriately for the quality that is given and the salespeople are amongst the most knowledgeable that I have ever dealt with dealing with outdoor equipment.

The gentleman sales person, who works there, was very helpful. He explained about the socks, and what the difference was. And told me about the hiking boots too. Tried them on & were comfortably snug. He sold me on them. I love them both.

Came here for a flashlight that I need for work. I came to the wrong place everything is extremely overpriced. The staff is polite enough but you can get everything they have from Amazon at a better quality and not break the bank.

In last three trips to store, I was overcharged every time. When I pointed out the errors, employee laughed and said computer must be screwed up.Had to wait while correction was figured out.Sale discounts apparently werent entered correctly. Employees very pleasant but appear more interested in each other than customersThis is also one of the few retail stores left in America that does not read chip on credit card. Requires that you swipe card.Much less secure.This is the kind of store that drives me on line to shop. Needs a lot of work.

This store carries lots of great name brand gear but staff are not the friendliest. Sometimes it feels like they are avoiding you when you go in. Customer service could be improved.

Mostly Patagonia merchandise. Theres a few other outdoor brands but not a wide selection. Prices are extremely high. Everything sold at MSRP! The upside is the staff are very helpful but just plan a trip to REI in Greensboro to save some cash.

Shopped there often. Only 7 days ago I spent over $300.00 there for Christmas gifts. They didnt have the color rain jacket my wife wanted or I would have bought it there also. I bought the padagonia jacket on line they sent the wrong color. The receipt said log on and find a store near you and return for free. I was going to buy her something else there but they wouldnt stand behind there customers or Patagonia. I know 4 or 5 hundred dollars spent there a year aint much but they wont see me again.

So for starters the personnel is very polite and courteous, shout out to the older gentleman that knows his stuff when it comes to rock climbing ! The quality is there in the products. There is a wide selection of different brands, brands you can trust and depend your life on. Brands like black diamond and north face. I get all my gear here when it comes to climbing. I stick with indoor for the most part, so all the carabiners, shoes, and harnesses here do really good. I have not tried outdoor climbing yet but I have full faith in the rope you can buy at the store. They have different types of rope for multiple uses. I weigh approximately 280 (most is lean fat 👍) and feel secure with the harness I bought from here. Highly recommend this store for all your outdoor needs. The price is high as some have stated but it is a quality product. I would rather spend a lot on a really good product then get A LOT of cheap products. Be prepared to go on a shopping frenzy once your in this store. My recommendation would be to walk in with a set amount of cash because you will we walk out of here with the wallet empty and no money left for chik fil a. What I like about this place is the relaxed atmosphere while you shop the most up-to-date equipment available. For example, I thought they couldnt possibly have 3.5 hi-visibility monofilament level line for my Tenkara fishing pole but lo and behold they did.
