The staff, especially Joe, could not have been any nicer! I purchased my first radio here and it was a smooth ride. I was actually stuck in traffic and the store was about to close. But Joe was kind enough to pull what I wanted and waited for me. I got a cool hat and and a lanyard while I was finishing up my purchase. I would strongly recommend this place.

I like when you order it goes to the closest store that had everything in stock for you. Shipping speed is normally 2 to 3 days which is fantastic. Looking forward to when a ham radio outlet could be in all states ☺️. They make it very easy to order online. 73 to all.

Looks like my original comment didnt post. INCREDIBLY helpful staff. Even though they didnt have the very specific item i needed and were upfront about it, they still provided me with a lot of info on the project Im working on. Special shout out to Joe, Steve, and Cornell. Only regret is that since they since they didnt sell what i needed I couldnt spend any $ there. Love to help out local business rather than go to Amazon.

I’ll be honest, I shopped at a competitor before I came here because the website was easier to navigate. But what the website doesn’t offer, these guys more than make up for in knowledge, shipping speed, and communication. I received a call that my radio was back ordered and it would be shipped as soon as it came in. Well, it shipped the next day, and I received it less than 24 hours after getting the shipping notification.

Knowledgeable and mostly cordial staff of licensed amateur radio operators. Their prices are mostly on par with most other large On-Line retail amateur distributors. HRO has the advantage of having locations in or near major metropolitan areas. You can actually look at and explore the radios and other technology you are interested in before purchasing them. Most of the other On-Line amateur focused retailers cant provide the same thing. They have open box deals and just about anything you need to get your mobile rig or shack up and running.

He also represents HRO in a positive manner which has turned me into a HRO longtime customer.

I have never experienced a person being as rude as I have when I visited here. I walked in and was told by a man with whitish hair and a mustache that “You need to leave, Now!!!”, I was puzzled and he didn’t give an explanation, he then said it again. I said “Okay I am leaving” at which time he said “What can we help you with?” and I told him I was looking for a shortwave radio. He then replied with “You need to leave the store Now”. At no time did he give an explanation WHY I needed to leave. So I left and once I calmed down from the rudeness, I thought maybe they were only allowing curbside pickup, which looking at their website verified that was it. All the man had to say was “Sorry, because of Covid we are only doing curbside, can you please leave and phone in your order and we will bring it out to you.” Because of their rudeness I will now NEVER buy anything from Ham Radio Outlet ever again.

Really disappointed. Called Monday to confirm scanner antenna was in stock and would ship the same day to Ohio. Small enough to fit in a small flat rate USPS box for $8.30. Yet charged $9.95 shipping and sent regular mail (4 days later...still waiting). When I called was told that “the system picks the best option”. I guess they mean, ‘best for profits’.

Disappointed that I just drove an hour to get to the store and was turned away. Apparently their showroom is not open to the public. I recommend you call ahead to see if they will let you in. They should post something online to prevent this from happening to others. Cant say anything about their service or pricing since I didnt get to walk in. They might be a great retail shop but unfortunately did not get to find out. Please post something about your walk-in traffic policy.Update: Thanks for the response. Your right, I do see it posted under the update tab.

Regarding FTDX101MP mars Mod, One of our members requested this option, however the job was incorrectly done by the HRO Tech. The method for the FTDX101D was utilised which incorrectly installed a KS6 link, which programs the FTDX101 to 100w, making the MP think it is a D. The PO meter changes from 250w to 150w scale, and HF Max is 100w instead of correct 200w. Photo of mod below. If you order the MP mars mod please verify the correct method and procedure is performed. We have the details of both methods.Regarding the response below, which only suggests presumption ;Yaesu does not provide a FTDX101MP with any KS6 link (seen badly fitted in picture) or KS5 solder blobbed (000 R should have been fitted as part of the mars mod). If HRO does not claim responsibility for this obvious mistake using the incorrectly applied FTDX101D mod layout, then whom is responsible for it ? The below picture shows the facts and there is no presumption. The fact that KS7 also remains is another mistake. This should have been removed and placed on KS5. and no KS6 fitted, Then the procedure would have been correct !

Normally I would go Gaga over this place. I know it’s a business designed to make money but apparently no one but the manager can slap on a UHF connector for me on a drive from VA Beach to home for under $20 labor. If we are wondering why we are losing HAMs everyday this is an example of why. Friendlier Service for the customers who really have to go out of their way just to walk through your door. I was going to spend more money in there and outfit myself over time but I will order online now and spend my money elsewhere. I’m sure you will survive without my business. On a good note I was able to do a one for one exchange with no issue.

PROS: Item got here timely considering one day was Sunday, the other a federal holiday, so mail didnt run those 2 days. Item delivered by USPS.CONS: No way to check order status online, (at least I could not find one)No tracking number or email to confirm shipment. I paid via PayPal and quickly received email invoice, and that last I heard of them until item arrived 5 days later, VA to NC. Although I really did not doubt something happened with my order, a simple email to confirm shipment is not too much to ask, everyone else does it. That is my only nit with them, hence a 4 instead of 5, because I have been satisfied with HRO in the past.

I wanted it for the trip then he found a cable that would fit in stock and I was good to go! I am so pleased there is still a Ham Radio store you can go to. It is the only one in the whole area. I was in Anaheim at the end of September for a work conference. I planned an extra day just for R&R. I made my way to the HRO store there. What a great bunch of folks. I had been thinking about a D-Star handheld. I ended up buying an ID51A Plus anniversary edition. The gang helped me get the right quick reference guide - even point out that I was about to purchase one that was not current. The placed an order right there so that the correct one (they were out of stock) would ship to my Richmond VA QTH from the Richmond store. When I got home it was waiting on my porch. I loved these guys in Atlanta, now I love them in Anaheim. And while I havent darkened the door of the DC store - ridiculous traffic (and thats from the POV of an Atlanta guy) but they have been great for several online orders. Give these guys your business so they will be around for many years.BTW, I just placed a reservation on an IC-7300 using the reservation feature on their site. Dont know if the budget will allow when it becomes available in the US but this is a nice feature. And if I dont take advantage of the reservation they will credit my account for the $35.00 reservation fee. Smart!
