This store is just getting on its feet and stocking its shelves. Most prices are higher here than many other stores in town for the same items, but there are excellent prices to be found here too, particularly with beverages (including alcohol) where Ive found this store to have the cheapest prices in town. Having spoken with the quite friendly owner, its his goal to provide a very wide variety of fresh and packaged food, catering to local cultures and to expand offerings significantly and quickly as this atypical and interesting new store becomes established in the community.
Why the Taco Truck nearby gets more business than California Market? Because they dont provoke customers to leave. The California Market use to be okay, but over the years, it had been less than inviting. Only one customer or none would be there, the selections for food are minimal compared to what it had years ago, and the owner(or the father of the owner) would suspect you for being a thief; if you brought a backpack or a bag(even if it was just buying from a nearby store), they will kick you out or force you to leave it outside(which is odd when every store in that East section of Main Street would at least have you leave it by the register).Meanwhile, the Taco Truck next to it is probably the only place to go to in that area, since I would always see more people out there than inside. That says a lot when people would rather get their food from a truck litterally next to California Market. The sad thing about this was the Market was never like this before. I had been there when it first opened only a couple years ago, and it did use to have imported food and spices that were affordable than going to Trader Joes. But it just became another place to barely go to. With the situation now, I wouldnt be surprised if continued as is, the business will close in another couple years.
Prices are reasonable. They cater to ethnic foods. They carry food not found elsewhere. Very enjoyable
Polite cashier, decent selection of beer. Lots of other goodies.
The tacos at the truck are pretty tasty. Good customer service as well.
They advertised an 18 pack of Bud Light for $8.99 . I drove all the way across town to buy it. When I got there I was rudely told that it was a mistake and that the price was $12.99 and $12.99 was a good price. They should rename it Bait and Switch Market
Bare shelves and the guy was following me the whole time as if i was gonna steal something
