The go to mower shop around here, especially for toro, echo and lawnboy. Make sure to bring in the model number and make of your lawn equipment so the employees can accurately look up parts for you. Better yet, do your research online and bring them in a part number and it make things run real smooth. Toms the best, never steers me wrong and has years of experience with all sorts of small engines.
They do have inventory so that helps. But, each time I go in there the service is less than a good time. They take their time calling you up to the desk. They act like theyre doing you an inconvenient favor, and they love debating what part # you need. And, the price is not low.Unless I need a part badly & want to put up with their attitude Ill just keep buying off Amazon even if I have to wait a little while.
Best customer service one could ask for. Small family owned. Tom is very attentive to his customers needs. Been on business 40 years and knows it inside and out. Dont go to the big box retailers, Toms prices are the same or better. He will walk you through everything you need to know regarding your new toy and more. This customer could not be more pleased.
Has to be the worst customer service in Michigan for lawn care equipment needs. The counter personnel belittle your intelligence and look down on you. Don’t waste your time in this place and go elsewhere with your money! You are wasting your time if you do.
Very knowledgeable! Great service
Great service and expert knowledge.
The parts person knew what I needed before I finished my second sentence. Good to know there is a lawn mower place that knows what you need even if you dont.
Wonderful customer service! Tom helped me find a part to repair my lawn mower quickly. He also gave me advice on how I could keep the mower clean and well maintained.
I go here for my mower parts or maintenance, the guys here are helpful and nice.
When we stopped here the other day, after breakfast, my kids and I stayed in the car, hubby went in, shop I cannot give any details on general. I do know, from looking at the outside and from what hubby and Mom have told me, theyre good people, they hold up to work done, albeit from this pandemic-crazy world at the moment, rather frustrating. I would recommend this place just based on what Ive heard and seen. However, the choice is totally up to you
Always helpful and very knowledgeable.
You get what you pay for! I buy a better products at Tom De Young’s and there Service is the best in town! From pick up of products to fair expert repair! I am a long term customer so there is years of maintaining of several products! When I stop by I see a lot of professionalyard companies trade there, that tells you something! These guys are great and do a awesome job! Professional Company and only use professional product!
We were able to get a spool cover for our toro weed wacker. Couldn’t find it nowhere else. Thanks for your business.
The worst customer service I have seen recently. Rudely told me my part number was wrong (it wasnt). Also said the model number of the engine was wrong (also no). I told him I could verify the part was correct if I saw it, and this was not an acceptable question. I returned to work, punched the part number into ebay, and bought it. I honestly do not know why anyone would go here. I will never go back.
Worst customer service in my life. The owner needs a lesson how to treat customers. I’m very surprised he still has his doors open. I purchased an echo back pack blower almost 5 years ago from him and it’s been a lemon of a runner ever since. The owner continuously blames it on bad fuel in the carb. I run 100% recreational fuel with premium 2-stroke oil with fuel Stabilizer. I have other echo equipment with one item over 20 years old and it runs like the day I purchased it. This guy will try to belittle your intelligence and take your money at the same time. Take your hard earned money elsewhere and give to someone else that appreciates your business.
I gave the “mechanic” my mother’s blower that would not run. He took it into the back room for five minutes. He then returned to the counter, handed me the blower and told me The blower had “bad gas”. And ran fine at an idleI knew he was lying and took it to my car mechanic who tested the compression. It was about 2 to one and he said it was shotI asked Mom and sure enough she had run it with straight gasThe mechanic at Toms was a liar. I’m not sure what he had to gain other than maybe he’s too lazy to actually give an accurate diagnosisI buy my equipment elsewhere now
I dont know about any of these bad reviews but they couldnt be more wrong. The owner was extremely helpful and nice when I went into the shop. He told me upfront on what it would cost to fix/rebuild the motor on my 30+ year old snow blower that was handed down to me from my father so I told him I would rather just purchase a new one. He showed me the new and used ones he had and gave me a killer deal on a snow blower and lawn mower package deal. I will only go here for my services from now on.
Every time I go in there the head mechanic is at desk and every time I asked a question he looks at me like crazy and says no. This guy is completely rude and no customer service skills what so ever! I will never recommend this place.
Was able to find most of the parts I needed for my mower. Costumers service was quick. I was in and out quickly. Price was only a little more then what I found online but I needed them now, not later. So I was willing to pay a little extra to get what I needed.
My Briggs and Stratton snow blower that I purchased from Menards last November had a manufacturer defect and also the people at Menards who assembled the machine put in the wrong bolts in places. Tom and crew fixed it in under two days while also discovering the wrong bolts and replacing them with the correct ones. They did this before Briggs and Stratton even processed the warranty! Tom did this at no cost even though he was not 100% sure that the warranty would cover it. Very nice guy and great shop with new Toro machines as well as many used machines. I would recommend any services or purchases from Toms shop.
Purchased a couple of quarts of overpriced oil for my lawn mower. Charged it. Big mistake. I ended up not needing the oil. I went to return it and they told me I could not return it because I charged it. No other reason. I never opened the oil and had the receipt, but NO RETURN because it said that on the charge slip I signed. To be fair, the credit card receipt said No refunds, no exchanges and I didnt see it. What I dont get is where is taking care of the customer in this? The customer (me) made an honest mistake and now Im stuck with the oil until I need it again next year.I also didnt appreciate the guy telling me their policy is great and service was great, because their receipt said no returns (and he made sure to tell me that I signed it)!Dont hide behind a policy to give crappy customer service and not take care of an honest customer. Their $15 refusal to credit will cost them way more in the future as I will NEVER buy anything from them again!!
In 2013 Dec, my elder dad bought 1 stage blower, by4 8 2015 took it in cause it wont start cold, wont start by recoil, hard starting, found out it didnt run long after buying it. Charge him 30 for nothing. Now were getting into it. Cant under stand how they can sell junk to the elderly, my dad always took care of what he bought. They never took it apart. I wouldnt suggest them to anyone.
I came to drop of 2 lawn mowers for repair, the stored closed at 3...i arrived at 3:06 and instead of helping me drop of my mowers for repair the two employees in the store starred at me in the window and then went back to conversation totally ignoring me.....I wont be back ever
From reading these reviews, Im not going to even bother wasting my time stopping into this store, and yes, I recently just purchased my first home, and I do need like $10,000.00 worth of lawn/landscaping/snow equipment for all seasons(winter/summer) here in Grand Rapids, Mi - I did take my father to this established business once, and he also said What a Rude, Rude bunch people working here. We both wondered how the doors stay open - its pretty obvious they are sole proprietors, giving them, and only them, the exclusive right(s), in being one of maybe a select few, the rights to sell this high ed lawn care equip. locally, if not possibly the ONLY established business, having the exclusive rights, under contract to sell this certain and particular high End/quality lawn equipment etc. etc.. However, this establishment business clearly abuses this right, in that they feel, once again, considering they are only ONE of maybe a select few to retail this locally in Grand Rapids, that they can treat people any way they so choose. This is certainly no way to run a business, and the owner will soon learn some day, he should have treated and valued the customers he once had walking through the doors, with more respect, and taken them more seriously, in answering any and all questions, in person and/or on the phone without trying to belittle or make a mockery out of someone, who was otherwise innocently unfamiliar with lawn equipment or the products DeYoung sold in general or had to offer at the time. So sorry to see such a business, carrying such high end products, feel they have the right to treat other human beings the way they do. This is unfortunate, needless to say... The problem will eventually Fix Itself~ I just wanted to add one more Food for thought - In my experience in dealing with a business in any given situation, its always a real bad sign when they have a No return Policy as Ive seen stated in other complaints on here. That speaks volumes when businesses, dont or are not willing to return items, this is a sure sign that the place is NOT thriving and/or doing very well(this means they cant and the money was already spent to keep the doors opened).. AKA - They Cant Afford to Take anything BACK! *Sigh*
They charged me $185.00 and my lawnmower came back in worse shape. Went in for oil change blade and push start would not work. That is it. Fine otherwise. Vibrates terribly and has a rattle. This was not there when I took it in. To try to prove me wrong he mowed his front of his store while I waited then told me there was nothing wrong, literally threw it in my car with grass over it and walked away. Dont go here for repairs. They dont want to stand behind what they fix. They were on the defense when I called in the am and I was told I had to bring it in a day or two. Will not do business with them again.
I used them twice, several years apart, once for a new gas tank because the old one was leaking from a vibration-caused crack and a pull rope was frayed, and and just now with another lawnmower I needed a pull rope. They had the parts in stock, and the price was good. They were friendly with me both times.
Don’t waste your time here the guys I’ve talked to are vary rude and inconsiderate! Never coming back sorry! Better places in the greater Grand Rapids area!
Didnt have part was able to get in a timely matter.
Very knowledgeable staff and Great service.Just bought a new chain saw. But Ive had my lawn mower and snow blower fixed there before also. Always done right. Brian and Tom know there business inside and out.
Ive taken my business here for years and have bought my last 3 mowers here also. Ive never been unhappy with my dealings with them.
Needed a chain for a small chain saw and I was going by so I stopped. They had what I needed but it cost $7 more than elsewhere. Now I have a Honda generator that needs some work but I thought I should read the reviews first. Glad I did. Sounds like Im better off going to a Honda dealer.
I bought new a Toro 721 snow blower, used it 2 times and it started leaking gas. I found out theres only a 30 day warranty for this issue. Now Im stuck having to pay the bill for the repair.
Misery fills the air of the building. I was spoken to like a dog. Id rather the city repossess my house from the grass being too long before I bought a mower from this place.
After calling to see if they had a belt in stock for my sont go cart, sent my wife in to pick it up. Decided to get an extra as a spare. Discovered immediately that it was not the correct belt. Called the next morning and they will not take them back. Less than 24 hours later, and not even removed from the cardboard, and they will not even exchange them for the correct belts! Completely unethical. I have built and worked on 100s of vehicles and have never had a problem returning anything- even after installing some parts. I highly recommend avoiding this establishment. They could have at least told my wife when she bought them that they were not returnable. A good business will ALWAYS tell you when something is not returnable, even if it is stated on the receipt.
This place sounds like they need to be out of business. Thanks for letting me know how bad they are. Going some where else for my mowing and snow blowing needs.
Unwilling to help unless you magically know the part number of the belt/part you need. I knew the model, make and year of my mower, but the response was.. Sorry, I cant help you unless you have the part number. The good news I was able to find the part number using Amazon...and then ordered it from Amazon.
Went shopping for a snow blower . I asked alot a questions and was never pushed into buying anythingWill be back again
Horrible experience drop lawn mower off broken picked up still broken. Owner say we left it for 6 months and gas went bad and now we have to pay all over again for new parts and service. Nasty attitude and all. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS PLACE!!!! WISH I COULD RATE A -5
Went in to look at a particular Toro zero turn mower. They didnt have it in stock and all the sales people were at lunch so one of the mechanics (Brian) helped me. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and talked to me for a good 15 minutes. They didnt have what I wanted but it was still a very nice experience.
The man I spoke with was so rude! I called to get a part number and he would not give it to me. He was really reluctant to give it to me telling me I excited out if the screen so I dont know the number. I asked him to go back to it and he replied you dont need to know the number now and you will get it once you order it. Then he hung up on me. He was trying to hide the fact that he was charging me 135 dollars for a carburetor that cost 20 bucks elsewhere. super rude, and will never do business with these guys. Ps I never write reviews, but was compelled to due to how I was treated. I called another business and they gave me the number within a minute.
Extremely great service, just a bit pricey.
What a nasty guy on the phone. I wasnt the guy who pissed in your coffee this morning, dont take it out on me. I am not a lawn mower expert, I had no idea that Huskee is a tractor supply exclusive brand and that there are three middle men in-between. Sorry for trying to take my business to someone local.
JUst got back from there. He was most helpful in determining what parts I needed and had everything I needed in stock. Will be going back in the spring to purchase a new mower.
I literally have a small engine repair shop around the corner from my home in Caledonia, but the professionals at DeYoungs make me drive all the way to Wyoming for their service. Absolutely the the best in GR.
Went in for some parts for an 11HP Briggs and Stratton engine Im rebuilding. They had both parts and were very helpful. I read a lot of one star reviews before I went in, but since I like to keep my business local as often as possible I still took a shot and purchased parts from them. I noticed a lot of the one star reviews were incorrect. Let me explain.A lot of people seem to think that the guys in there are rude and treat you like you dont know anything. Theres a simple fix for this. LOOK UP THE PART NUMBERS FOR WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE GOING IN. Its a huge waste of their time having to have them look up your engine and search through a huge list of parts to find the part numbers when you can come prepared and be in and out in 5 minutes. Its really that simple. Just come prepared and youll be happy.I will be doing business with DeYoungs again, because of the helpful people working there and because I like to keep my business local and help out the small businesses as much as possible. I also like to know that Im getting the genuine parts and not aftermarket cheap stuff. Go to an authorized parts and repair facility and buy the genuine parts, whether its a Briggs, Toro, Tecumseh, Honda, Kohler, whatever. Itll pay for itself in the end when the parts last 10 times as long as cheap aftermarkets. And the best part is, at least with Briggs parts, the genuine parts are made in the USA where aftermarkets are from CHINA. You take your pick.
Im so thankful we went to Tom We Young Engine & Mower. Were new to mowers and snowblowers so when our snowblower quit working we needed help. They answered all our questions and solved all our problems! We feel prepared for every season now. Such a relief! No more shoveling!!
These guys are the worst in service i have ever seen. If i could give a half star i would. Dropped mower off for simple maintanace got quoted almost $300. So fine i go in to pick up my $30 deposit and they wont give that back even tho they said no charge. I suggest anyone who goes there read the fine print on ANYTHING you have done because they dont tell you this when you drop it off. The guy at the front desk seems friendly and on the up and up but is the biggest slimeball i have ever dealt with. Rude, incompetent and shady. Never again
Ive had good experience with this shop for several years. I originally bought a snowblower which was defective from the factory (not their fault.) They came to my home, picked it up and serviced it not once but twice, and I lived all the way across town.Since then Ive had two odd issues with my lawnmower, where I lost the key that allows you to mow in reverse and then had the battery go out suddenly. They ordered the replacement key quickly for me with no issues. In the case of the battery, I spoke to Tom DeYoung on the phone and he helped me trouble-shoot to avoid buying an expensive switch that I likely wont need. If the switch is indeed bad, they can order it then.I remain a satisfied customer and will continue to use them unless something changes.
I took in an old push mower that was working, just wouldnt self-propel and had a drive bar that stuck a little. They said it would be 7-10 days before they could look at it, and the charge was $30. They called back after the 10 days to say there were several things wrong and it would cost over $500 to fix--probably not worth it. I went to pick it up, and it was in several pieces. When I got home, I realized the pull cord was missing. $30 and two trips turned a working lawnmower into a pile of junk.
I wish I would have read the reviews before stopping in this place. Horrible customer service, they were all extremely rude. I needed a simple part, I had the part number and everything, they put zero effort into finding this part. Said they might have it in 10 days if he places an order soon. I would never recommend this place to anyone!
This place has no idea what they are doing! They kept my mower for weeks and did nothing to fix it. The owner is a idiot and so are his workers! Do not bring anything here for service and certainly dont buy anything from these retards! I think they should be shut down for having no clue! Do not give these jerks any of your business unless of course you like being lied to and treated like crap!
Great service and all the parts you need for your mower.
The parts guy is one of the worst weve ever delt with. I talk to parts guys frequently in my line of work and I know the days of calling in without a part number are over. That being said, I called in, gave the model# and serial# (PN was worn off the part) he refused to help. I Googled the PN, called back, he still wouldnt look to see if they stocked the part. He wanted the code off the motor. After giving the man the correct model number, serial number and part number he would not check availability. I had a coworker call again an hour later. Parts guy told my coworker they wouldnt have the part for 3 weeks and the price was $68 (this part sells online for $23 with 2 day shipping) we went elsewhere.
Went in to buy shoes for a snow blower to find when I cashed out the computers were down and the sales guy sold me universal shoes. When they didnt fit that night I returned them the next day. They didnt want to take them back. He did the return and charged me a 20% restock fee. I got no receipt when I made the purchase so I had no clue. And when I told him his sales-loser sold me universal parts that didnt fit it was his fault. They didnt care, THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF AND A PARTS SCAM...GO ANYWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE TRUST ME...
Had the part I needed. Very helpful. Maybe a little rough around the edges for some people but still a nice guy.
Wonderful place to visit and get all your snowblowing and lawnmower needs
Stop to get some parts,4, for my tractor, had the right parts all 4 of them and was in and out in less then 15 minutes. cost was cheaper then online and I had them now. I will be back for sure.
Very informative on how to replace oil and spark plug.
I went to Deyoungs because they were close to home for a lawnmower cable. They treated me like I was an idiot. Condescending to me and 1 guy kept saying they didnt have the part over and over. Finally I went to complain and the other guy order the part put it took over 1 1/2 wks for a simple cable.I also took a friend there to get a new tire because the ball bearings in it were bad. He just wanted to get the very common ball bearings for it to fix it or to get a new tire for his troybilt lawn mower for which this tire is a common tire on most lawn mowers. the guy was rude, nasty, would not look at tire, treated him like he was stupid, made no effort to help him out, but like a ROBOT kept repeating WE NEED MODEL NUMBER WE NEED MODEL NUMBER and then basically walked away. Leaving us standing there dumbfounded that a person with a small business would make no effort to help a PAYING CUSTOMER. HOW RUDE.I WILL NEVER EVER RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE TO ANOTHER PERSON AGAIN. THE OWNER OF THIS SHOP NEEDS A REALITY CHECK ON CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR SURE.
Great customer service, great knowledge and selection of parts on hand.
Went in for a belt, they talked me into new paddles for my toro snow thrower saying after 13 years they have to be worn out and new ones will make it perform better. Bought the paddles. Went home to change them out and the originals are the SAME size of the new replacements. Nothing wrong with them. went to return and they said no returns because I used a card to pay. They took advantage of a sale without knowing what they were talking about and then would not take them back. THESE PEOPLE ARE SHAMS, SELL YOU PARTS YOU DONT NEED AND WONT TAKE BACK! Not to mention, when you walk in, the haze of cigarette smoke is heavy from the owner of the business puffing away inside.I would never recommend this business at all. They are represented as an authorized toro dealer from the toro site. They are being contacted next as well as the better business bureau which I am sure he is not a member. TOM DEYOUNGS MOWER AND ENGINE BLOWS!!
Great selection best knowledge around
Guy behind the desk was a rude bad customer service
The owner is so rude. Our mower needed a belt, my husband purchased one and it was the wrong belt. He would not refund our money. Who keeps a business with piss-poor customer service and it comes from the owner? Never shopping or going here again! Rude! Rude! Rude!
Horrible experience with these guys. Zero if if let me
Been there once for parts, what a rip off, will never go back.
I dont know how these people stay in business! Bring a Toro part into them to look at they refuse to look at it because I dont have the engine part number. I will stick with Amazon if I have to do all of the research on part numbers and model numbers. They to will be a causality of Amazon.
Would reccomend to anyone
Very good service and honest
Mower saws used items nuts n bolts filters oil blades
They will fix your mower right!
Excellent.
Very helpful
