I took a transfer case in to Dan Maxam of Maxam Enterprises to have a hole bored out to fit a larger bearing. Dan was pleasant when I dropped the case off and started working on my project right away. I had zip-tied the new bearing to the hole that needed boring, and Dan accidentally bored out a different hole. The mistake isn’t what angered me, it was Dan’s approach and customer service. He immediately accused me of zip-tying the bearing to the incorrect hole. I have a picture of the location of the bearing next to the correct hole immediately prior to zip-tying it to the correct hole and I’ve also rebuilt dozens of these transfer cases. My only mistake was assuming he was competent enough to do the job correctly. Also when I arrived to pick up the case and replace it with another for boring Dan immediately refused to work on the new case indicating that sand from the first case (that I meticulously cleaned) had scratched his mill table that he had to polish. He indicated that the only way he would mill my replacement case was if I “power washed it”.I have lost $150 on a now worthless transfer case in this interaction with no remedy to the situation and not one concession. Dan does not recognize and take accountability for his own mistakes and instead makes excuses and turns the situation back on his customer. I have since taken my business elsewhere and will never again deal with Dan. I would caution any other individual taking parts or business to Dan to think twice.
