Ive tried other classic diners and havent had a good experience, either the food is too oily or tasteless.Not here, my wife really enjoyed her pancakes and I loved my sandwich.The portions were huge and the service was really good and fast.If you want a nice and affordable breakfast you should come here 🙂

A great place. Their eggs benedict had runny yolk, and the hollandaise sauce was good. The last couple places Ive eaten did not get it right. Healthy portions, and masked employees I guess thats important to add nowadays. :)

The staff is so friendly and patient. The fries were perfect, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Theyre also such a fun shape! The food lacked seasoning/flavor and yet was still pretty good. It was a little like something you would just make at home. The menus also very diverse and confusing.

My co-worker told me about this place a couple of months ago...so I decided to try it and see how good is the food I went to get some breakfast I had three pancakes with a side of hash browns and a cup of coffee it was good the quality was ok the staff is very friendly they make you feel like you are home I recommend this place for anybody looking for some good breakfast

I had the Eggs Benedict and it was eggsellent. The mushroom bacon omelette was tasty too. Fruit salad is an understatement! Good food at great prices. Ill be back.

I had the chicken curry with vegetables & side salad. The side salad was drenched in vinegar, definitely too much dressing on there. The chicken curry was very good and the curry sauce tasted amazing. Friendly service.

This is not the first time have been there. It is not a big cafe, but their location is right at the south shore shopping mall. A lot of parking space available. The food and service there is good. Breakfast is served all day.As of today, 09/17/2021. Same great taste, quality and quantity, and service. All sources, milk and cream becomes individual packages on each table due to covid.Every time I walk out of the place with full stomach and feel satisfied.

If I could rate it lower, I would. Food is not well made, and processed. I am frustrated that I just spent nearly 10 dollars for something I couldve gotten at the nearest grocery store for cheaper. Although the staff was nice, the menu wasnt clear at all. I ended up getting the french dip sandwich but there was nothing besides the meat and the bread. If you do choose to come here, do not expect anything well made.

This place had some great breakfast food! Everything we had tasted it great at a great price. The only thing was the service was a little slow. We didn’t have the right amount of silverware and took awhile to take our order but maybe it was due to being short handed, didn’t seem to be short staffed. Will return again!

This has become one of my go-to places for breakfast or lunch. The wait for a table can be pretty long especially on the weekend and at peak hours. Although there is usualy a seat always available at the counter. Their omlets are great, they do not skimp on the ingredients. Spinach, mushroom and onion omlet is my favorite on top of hash browns and a side of cottage cheese with wheat toast. Every once in a while I get orange juice but be aware that its from concentrate, not fresh.

I think the food there is for seniors who cant have much seasoning. The waitresses were kind but........

They charge for tap water. In the United States this is illegal. If they are willing to break that law. What other laws do they break? I wonder if they correct change credit cards?

In the local Alameda paper, this cafe is referred to as the beloved South Shore Cafe. It most certainly is! Their food is reasonably priced, comes quickly, is well prepared, and their waitstaff is very efficient. My brother and I eat lunch there at least once a week and it is invariably excellent.

Quick service. No fresh orange juice for breakfast. Food is ok. Staff is nice.

Great diner. Standard diner fair. Huge salads! Good diner coffee that you wont stop drinking. Nice mom and pop running the show. Pleasant people. Getting attention can be slow, but I dont mind. Places like this need to be supported!!

Great breakfast

Our family has been coming here regularly since we moved to Alameda. The food is very affordable and generally pretty well prepared. What it isn’t is a gourmet restaurant. The place is a go to place for our grandkids in Alameda. They enjoy the steamed broccoli and carrots, spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs, eggs prepared to order, etc. - everyday comfort food . They kids are comfortable because the staff makes them feel comfortable. We are very grateful that this kind of eating established exists.

I have visited twice the first time with a party of 8. We had a wait of about 20 minutes. The waitstaff was helpful and friendly. They took our orders and got the food out to us as quickly as possible. They did a great job making sure they got the order correct.The food was tasty. Worth the wait.The second time...the wait for 2 people was much longer. The waitstaff ignored us and the food was undercooked and burned at the same time. I guess you have to go on the right day...not a HOLIDAY!

Always my favorite for breakfast.

Comfort food. Quality seems to have gone down in recent months as they get closer to their final closing date. Omelettes and most daily specials still better than average.

Decent old style diner. Seems to cater to the retirement set. Stick to the diner faves, and you wont be disappointed. The Asian dishes and specials tend to be underwhelming. Their hash browns are some of the best around. Generous portions and great prices. Decent coffee. Really nice staff. Fast service.

I enjoy my breakfast almost everytime! They should just improve their coffee. Sometimes the cooks dont respect the waitress when she comes to the kitchen with a wrong order.

This family owned restaurant is located at the South Shore Shopping Center. Servicing Alameda and the adjoining areas. Plenty of parking and a wheel chair accessible entrance. Clean facilities. Nice Staff. Reasonably priced. Great for breakfast. Good to bring young children. We will definitely be going back.

This is a nice little spot for breakfast, lunch, or early dinner. Breakfast is served around the clock, and the coffee keeps flowing. The food is continental with some Asian flavors, like fried rice or curry bowls.There is a specials board with interesting choices like spam fried rice or chocolate chip waffles are offered.The crowd that eats here is older and more down-to-earth, with the odd hipster coming in for meals. The friendly staff keep everyone coming back, as there are a lot of regulars.

South Shore staff was very friendly and helpful they constantly was checking on you hot water or if you wanted more coffee. That food was good . I needed a little more space in the booth . I enjoyed my meal it was ham and cheese omelette with spinach. Great.

My favorite breakfast spot in Alameda. Its a traditional American diner, nothing fancy. But the staff is friendly and the food is tasty. The apple pie is their secret specialty. Considering its price level, it earned 5 stars.

My wife and I visited for breakfast before work because it looked like it would be quick and easy comfort food.It _was_ quick and easy comfort food. If thats what you want, you wont be disappointed.

This is the kind of place where the coffee keeps coming until you say when. There are daily specials and you can even order Loco Moco; a traditional Hawaiian breakfast (not on the menu.) The decor is...well,... out of date but they try to spruce it up with the seasons. The service is always warm and friendly.

Nothing too fancy or special, which in a way makes it special. Ive never been disappointed with anything Ive ordered over the years...their blueberry pancakes are loaded with the fruit, their club sandwich is perfect in size to split as a light meal or enjoy all to yourself, the onion rings are beer batter style - my favorite! Although their house salad leaves much to be desired, they make up for it with their fruit salad or side - half a fresh banana, wedge of cantelope and watermelon and occasionally some berries. Its the freshest most generous fruit side Ive ever seen and somehow its always perfect ripeness! Their location makes them the closest option for food if youre visiting or waiting for someone in the hospital....the prices are competitive and very reasonable too! Enjoy

I will never come back here again. Waiter are very rude, the food is mess no body listen to you when asked questions they look at you like youre in the wrong place. I never felt like this before.

We Were visiting from LA and wanted a good hearty meal before getting on the road to return to So.Cal and happened upon this place. We had stayed in Alameda and wanted a close place. The food was very good! The atmosphere was family oriented with that old country charm to the inside. The ommlets were delicious. I asked for an omelet that wasnt even on the menu and the gal was more than happy to have it fixed my way. Any time I go back up, I will stop here for brunch. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.

This is typical of the greasy spoon diners that my dad took me to when I was a kid, and they serve what I expect, which is a complement.The blueberry pancakes are good because they use fresh blueberries.You can get better food elsewhere, and it will probably cost the same, but those other places will probably have long lines.

I love dive or hole in the wall places. So if you dont... you may wanna give South Shore Cafe a pass. But they have a friendly staff, fast, yummy hot food and a huge menu. I honestly have only ordered 2 different meals. B.L.T with avocado ( deelish ) or 2 eggs with bacon hashbrown and sourdough. Im always satisfied... though if I could make one request it would be to please start serving better coffee!!!!! Gets busy on weekends and is small.
