Stopped in while traveling through Albuquerque. Firstly half of my discounts didnt ring up. Then the obese lady at the register humiliated me when I asked for ONE brown bag for my $35 worth of groceries. The prices are at least 15% higher than Whole Goods and I would say 25% higher than Smiths.
Abysmal in every way. Got screamed at for several minutes- full-on spittle flying in my face- by the cashier, manager looked on and did nothing to stop him or reprimand him. Later got assaulted in store by an out-of-control customer, police examined the footage and confirmed the other customer was entirely at fault. Store manager banned me anyway, invited me to come in store and dispute the ban, then told me I was trespassing when I did. Refused to release the security cam footage of the assault and explicitly lied about the contents of the police report, which I had to obtain myself to be sure they were lying. A once-lovely neighborhood fixture now in the claws of some really ugly excuses for people.
I am a member here but usually shop at a Sprouts location since it’s much closer to home. This location always has a great selection of produce. They also have bulk body care stuff (soap, shampoo etc) in addition to regular food bulk items, which is great. Always a good selection of prepared foods if you need something to grab and go. It does get a little crazy on the weekends, so we try and go during the week when possible.
Another welcome addition to all the niche Healthy Choice grocery stores here in Albuquerque. The tabouli salad is to die for
Cashier was mean, possibly didnt like my kind. She was friendly to the person in front of me, handed him cash and she told we she ran out of dollar bills so she cant take cash. And she just kept repeating it. Not coming back.
I love this store. Its nowhere near where I live but I drive across town (past the Sprouts) to shop here. I like it that they have local produce and dairy, they might have local meat too but Im a veggie so I dont know. I also like it that even though theyre a small store theyre paying their employees a higher wage during the pandemic.
While I come to this store primarily for local produce, what keeps me coming back is the friendly, courteous staff. And did the staff ever come through for me today! I left my phone on the ATM, and they not only held it safe for me, but also did some sleuthing to find me and let me know my phone was safe. I so much appteciate businesses who care about customers beyond the trandaction!
Best, local, freshest food. If you want stuff that’s significantly less likely to kill you...this is your kind of place. I can’t believe I’m typing this statement at all but here we are.
My wife and I went in there to see if they had wheat grass for our cat. Though they were out of the wheat grass. We ended up having lunch from the deli and picking up a few things. The soup was outstanding. Everything was fresh and made daily. Found out that they also have great employment opportunities and work very close with the community. Wonderful store. I cant wait to go back!
Just went here for the first time and i absolutely loved it...been looking for a place like this. Good energy all around...
As a regular shopper here, I am always pleased with the customer service. If the person I am talking with does not have the answer, they will find out. The produce is fresh. I love that children get to have a free piece of fruit when they are there! The selection in all sections of the store is good. I appreciate that the store is small; it has a more connected feel than a large store. The location is easy to get to, and the parking is good.
Its a nice small co-op. On the grocery side a bit pricey but worth it. Very happy they are including more vegan soups for the daily choices, it would be nice if they did the same for salad and sandwich bar. Maybe add vegan cheese to the sandwich menu and salad toppings like tofu. They do offer them on the grocery side why not at the cold- bar?
Really friendly staff. Good organic produce, dairy and meats. I love the steaks here from grass fed beef on local Native American reservations. More pricey than most grocers but the quality of food is better. Small selection but large selection of natural care, vitamins and homeopathic products.
Great store and Products, Bad employees/ practices..Everytime I go here Im suspected of stealing? Swear they always follow me..even when I worked for the company and would wear my work shirt and nametag. Im not the only one who has noticed this either many friends and family have had similar experiences. If only 0 stars was an option...
I go here at least once a week and I love going here the staff is always friendly when I walk In and Im able to go to them for any questions I have. They even have a good bar that serves breakfast, lunch, and pies. Lots of herbs, spices, and fresh fruit!
I love everything la Montinita sells, but its just absolutely too expensive! Its got to be 2-3 times the price of any other grocery store. If I were an old lady that eats like a bird shopping here would be in reach but I just cant afford it. If it were up to me I would put a stop on all of the community outreach programs they do and cut the fat anywhere else I could and focus on lowering prices.
Great selection of organic produce with amazing staff. Popped in whilst in the area to pick up some vegetarian food. One of the assistants helpfully guided us to the right place then offered us some assistance in choosing some other products. On the brief visit it was clear that they have a great selection of organic and whole foods. When we went through the checkout the assistant even ordered the kids a free piece of fruit each. Much nicer than supermarkets pushing candy at the checkouts.
Seemed like a nice place. Though maybe a little pricy on some items. I was looking at some cute winter caps $27.99...!
Friendly staff, and excellent produce! Also, locally and cooperatively owned.
I enjoy the co-op, its staff and the food selection but beware the prices are high. The best thing to get there is the local produce and meats. They also bake their own pastries and serve lunch to order. Lots of vegan options.
Love the Co-op. Gotten much better over the years. The staff and management seem to have lightened up a bit. Before it was very Im clean and healthy, and that makes me better than you. Its not that way at all anymore! Go to the Co-OP!
#1 grocery. Very small yet highest in quality/food/deli and customer service. Get their tomatoes, Manchego cheese, and baguette for a picnic. AMAZING.
Love La Montañita Co-op, Saturday 5-5-2018 Ive been a member since 2012, I love the quality of their produce and meats, not to mention the fresh dairy they have in stock. Yeah, its a bit pricey but its worth it to me, the staff is awesome, they are very helpful and courteous, but today was an awkward experience for me. The guy who works behind the counter where they serve hot food, and I had seen plenty of times when shopping there before, was staring a me awkwardly. I couldnt tell if he had a crush on me or he thought I was ripping off the place, but he watched me as I went down the isle to get some honey and a couple of muffins, and he continued watched me walk up to the register to check out. I will continue to shop there. but if he does that again Im going to have to give him a wink and ask him for his number. Haha ;-)
Usually very fresh organic produce. Love that they carry amazing organic Colorado peaches and roast green chile.
Love my co-op. Yes its pricey but have you tasted the pink lady apples? Been a member for 15 years never a complaint except that time they sacked a $5 tomato in the middle of the bag. If you like ideals, friendly staff and food that has resisted mega-Ag you will like the co-op too.
One of the best co-op grocers ever! Yes their selection of potatoes may cost more than those from Mexico or New York, but they show care in keeping the stock up to date and the clerks appear genuinely to be knowledgeable about their goods. They not only provide a wide selection of dried and bulk foods (at good prices) but they provide prepared foods and ready to cook meals. That is a wide range for a little store And they do it all well with a smile. If you happen to eat eggs you are not likely to find a wider or better selection. Doing all this they also have a wide selection of aroma therapy oils & scents; soaps, salts & more. They have a table or two and you can get your breakfest or lunch here also.
Best place to shop for food. Though it is getting corporate and heading hill losing touch with what made it popular and successful. But still there is not a better option. I shop there every day. You should too.
Has a good selection of unique food and is worth it. can be pricey but often has good deals. wonderful selection of vegan, gluten free, paleo options. dont forget your reusable bag.
I go here all the time for lunch as it is up the street from my office. You can get personalized sandwiches and salads pretty quickly, and the prices are way better than a Trader Joes or Sprouts. Great selection that seasonally changes!
Great produce and meats. It is a small store but it has almost everything I need. I eat more heathily when I shop here. There are some pretty good deals as well. I live close by and joined because it has a good feel and I feed my family well by coming here.
Always a nice selection of on the go meals and single serve items are of the highest quality. The staff is always courteous and willing to help. One of my favorite markets in the area.
This store is wonderful in terms of quality of food and service. The produce is the best available. Only downside: it isnt cheap. Quality has a price!
New in town. Comparable to my local Coop in Bellingham WA which is excellent! Good quality local produce at reasonable prices, good service. What more can you ask for?
Super expensive and the staff followed me around like they thought I was going to rob them. Super judgemental people working there. I prefer the other two locations.
So cute, best one in the ABQ area. Really homey atmosphere, nice workers, not trying to sell you anything.
Great pastries and bread, wonderful coffee station. Organic veggies. Lots of essential oils, candles, soaps, lotions. Great place. A little pricy.
A small branch of the long-established Coop, featuring organic foods, with an effort to carry local produce. The deli section has a limited selection. Conveniently located in the North Valley and reasonably set up to accommodate folks who are mobility-impaired.
Really sad about my lunch today. I hadnt been in in quite a while because I moved out of the Old Town area, so when we found ourselves in the neighborhood we stopped by for a Brie Beast from the hot bar.We both ordered on the green paper ticket (which needs to be updated btw) and handed them over to the man behind the counter (an older man with a goatee). When we stepped sack to wait, we noticed that the menu sign had been changed to just Beast so we asked about it. The guy tells us: oh, yeah... We dont serve brie anymore. Its been so long, we just dont even mention it anymore. And instead of offering cheese choices he headed back to what he was doing, so we asked what they use instead THEN he told us that we could choose between provalone and chevre.Couldnt believe we had to pull all of that out of him instead of it just being volunteered when we ordered. He made the order, but was running back and forth to look at the ingredients on the menu, off-putting but whatever. When we got our sandwiches, the tomatoes were soft and mushy and the roast beef was way over cooked. I did my best to just eat it, but had to stop because I found a thick, white, wiry hair in my sandwich. GROSS.Why was this guy not wearing any hair protection for his beard and head?I missed the place and really wanted a sandwich I used to really enjoy. We took our food on the run so there was really no bringing it back. But I expected better quality and more care from a store that charges a much for a sandwich. We wont be back.Left two stars because at least the cashier was nice.
Everyone is helpful and they have everything one could want. Healthy things and good fresh fruit and vegetables. Love it.
I want to care. I really do. Im as hyped about promoting local growers and farmers as the next hippy but at some point you have to step back and ask yourself whether it is worth paying double the price for a locally grown organic potato. I have to admit that I grow a bit of internal animosity when I see the astronomical prices at coops like this. How do they justify these prices? Locally grown markets should have lower distribution costs and they should be cutting out the middle man. The food doesnt need to be transported across the country or the world so that should make it cheaper. That should equal lower cost to the consumer, right? Right? Not here. I dropped in to this coop today because it is a couple of blocks away from the place Im staying for the month Im in Albuquerque. I had heard locally grown and quality organic and thought that this would be a win. In Cleveland where I usually live, I buy almost everything from West Side Market which is all locally grown products. But unlike La Montanita, its cheap.... or at least cheap enough to justify. The other problem I have with this place is the lack of selection. There really is very little to choose from if you are looking for produce or bread or... well, really anything.Sure, its a nicely laid out store which is why I gave it 2 stars, but it makes no sense at all to me to buy my groceries from here when I can get just as good quality at other places for a lot less. Money is tight right now but honestly, even if I was swimming in cash I dont think I would feel okay with mark-ups like these. Ill shop elsewhere.
Decent selection of baked goods and food to go. Customer service is ok. Local items which is great! A little expensive but that is to be expected at a co op.
Good place for vegan/GF/org and htf products and bulk, etc but god help you if you need to return something. Or perhaps the difficulty is saved for me specifically, lol, but Ive had exactly three returns in the past few years and 2/3 Ive had the exact same issues, even with reciept, even for exchange or store credit. It depends on manager you deal with. For this reason specifically Ive made a conscious effort to spend at TJs rather than these guys. I wish they would implement consistent policies so I would feel good about shopping here, love their local product lines and clean meats.
This is a nice little local co-op that I am happy to be a member of. Theyve got plenty of local, organic produce, as well as a variety of other healthy goods.
High quality foods. the deli is costly, no denying. save by preparing your meals with yummy ingredients
Although I don’t care much for the La Montanita location in Nob Hill, then at least the Rio Grande location is really nice. A bit pricy, but at least the customer service is great!
Sometimes pricey but good quality organic and all natural foods.
This is an awesome place. People are so helpful, quality all the way. Thank you so much.
Great place for organic food. Great service.
Good place to pick up some local produce but they really should work on rotating bulk bin isle. Three times Ive gone only to find that instead of my favorite granola theres a clogged bulk bin dispenser...this tells me that they clearly dont rotate their stock which is a no-no with any food products.
Good place to find some unique products but kind of on the pricey side
Wonderful place to buy what you need for on the go or for home with a wonderful organic selection.
My favorite local coop! Small but good selection
Support your local co-op! Excellent produce, selection of organic and natural products. But nothing beats the staff!
A great and long time grocery co-op in ABQ. Got them in ABQ and Santa Fe.
I love all of the vegan and gluten free options. Looking forward to my next shopping trip.
Love to stop and get snacks here...just need to get my membership already
Horrible customer service
Its good for specialty items and health food, but like most health food grocery stores it is pricey.
Very clean store with a knowledgeable staff who all seem to care greatly about the mission and principles of the La Montañita Coop. The best place in town to find local products at a reasonable price. If youre not already a member, you should join and support such a unique business.
Staff is friendly and helpful. Deli food is hit or miss. Prices are expensive. Fairly clean. Parking lot doesnt accommodate big vehicles. They dont recycle!!
Everyone is so happy to help!! Go in get what you need!!! Great place to get a meal or snack!
Great place for locally grown and organic produce. Very good pricing.
This Co-op carries a variety of local produce including the magnificent produce from Silverleaf Farms. Kind staff and great environment
One of the best places to shop, especially if youre looking for New Mexican grown food!
A bit pricey but the quality and excellent staff are well worth the money
I have only been here once. Expensive place. Cashier could have been friendlier
Organic, healthy food. Nice people. Great service.
Its convenient for a quick stop for an item or two and the quality of products is high but it is overpriced on most items even the ones on sale. I recently bought a Chobani yogurt for a $1.99 and normally get them at Walmart fo $.99. This seems to be typical.
Terrible vegan on stale gluten free bread sand at the deli. Never going back.
Great food store... They also sell Birhell Farms Fruit.
Come in with your Prius, your reusable bags, and your MAGA hat, theyll love you!
Great place and I love the fresh juicing and smoothies.
Great way to support your local businesses.
Only place to shop (other than farmers markets) if you give a damn about the quality of your food, how it was produced, and where it comes from.
Good choices but high prices. Parking lot tight. Friendly checkers.
Awesome, and the membership program has some really cool specials! Thanks La Montanita Co-op.
Great organic, local foods, great snacks. A weekly trip for our family.
Love the food and local options. Always a bit busy and bustling, staff is usually nice but can be a bit off-putting
A nice neighborhood grocery store but a little pricey for most people.
Excellent food and quality products. Expensive, but you get what you pay for...
Nice selection, friendly staff, and they give you a free piece of fruit if you bring kids.
Small branch of local co-op. Owner run with preference for locally supplied food. Many foods not offered by stores like Sprouts or Whole Foods.
I love this place. Great selection
Good place to shop, reasonable prices. Sure miss Elena Soliz!!!
Goods Werth it to check out, maybe buy,and help out,a good variety in resources, in a good community !
Great choice vitamins for hair, skin, metabolism, and etc. Great all natural products at an affordable price.
Workers were cool, Good products, clean store. Local salsa products.
Great grocery chain. Best in the area
Very cool local co-op Market very specialized items loved it
This is our favorite place to shop! Great local feel and wonderful staff.
Good selection of local and organic foods, can be a bit pricey.
Very good food, pleasant environment, well stocked, friendly and helpful
Always a pleasant experience---helpful people, good products.
Nice, clean, and really good pre-made foods.
Local produce, some unique products.
Small, but has lots of great local and wholesome products!
Horrible over priced produce that is molded and didnt notice until I was almost to work. Was told on the phone at 8am there were all burritos including vegan, got there at 8:15 from across town and there was zero vegan burritos and the chef said none were made vegan this morning so now I have to miss breakfast and go to work. horrible Custer service as well.
Good friendly store. Just over priced for me.
