My wife insisted on using this product in throughout our home. She did the application herself. Its time consuming to prep the walls and specific primer must be used. American Clay has to be troweled on, no brushes or rollers so its a laborious process. It looks great and the colors are warm and attractive. The actual color on the wall when dry however didnt always turn out as advertised. This is a very, very fragile wall coating, it cannot be cleaned or washed and if it gets very wet it will wash off the wall! Also if you brush up against it you can scrape the finish so really it should not be touched. Not recommended for homes with pets or children.

We used to sell American clay for many years from products we purchased directly from the company and were listed on their website as a dealer in Western Massachusetts. A few years ago we purchased 80 buckets of Loma, Porcelina, Maritimo and Enjare along with many color packs from a store that was liquidating. Before purchasing it all, I spoke to Carol at American Clay to make sure that it was OK to make this purchase. She encouraged me to do so and promised that they would help me sell it. So we got a truck load of the clay and the next thing we knew we had been removed from their website! Many calls to their offices resulted in nothing at all. We still have the clay in our garage at Topia Inn. To this day they have never responded.

The team at American Clay was great, they went out of their way to ensure all of my questions were answered. One of the best experience I have had with any company that I have delt with during my home remodel. They understand that this is our home, and major decision we have to make. Truely greatful to have found American Clay.

Hummmm....interesting reading these reviews. I normally dont leave reviews but feel like there is some misguidance going on about American Clay. Yes, I am a trained applicator of American Clay but I have NO investment into the company (not employed by them, I just simply LOVE their product and wanted to take the class to know how to apply it correctly) YES, it is a very laborious product but wow, if I skipped every project simply because it took time to look so amazing I would have a pretty ugly house :-) The fact that it is hand troweled on makes it look so earthy and gorgeous! Its WORTH IT! I applied it in my own home (going on 6 years now) and I have 3 little children and 2 dogs!! Ive had NO issues whatsoever about the upkeep except when my 3 year old decided to take a sharp stick and CARVE her initials into the clay. (gotta love 3 year olds) You can lightly take a wet cloth and wash parts of it if you wanted too but overall, the clay hardly attracts dirt! (not anything like a painted wall does at least!) Anyway, I DO agree (of course) that its best to hire a trained applicator. We have been through some trial and error (and experimentations like one house that I did that had the clay applied over concrete walls) so we do know our stuff. A homeowner if following the directions carefully can of course do it too. Regarding the colors, because they are completely natural (simply earth plasters) there might be a tiny bit of discrepancies between the sample and the wall but this is very easy to fix as just like you do with paint, simply do a sample board of the clay and let it dry to be SURE you like the color. Personally, because every color they have comes from the earth, I havent found a clay color I dont like! Overall, I have LOVED using American Clay in my own home and applying it in other peoples homes to enjoy for a lifetime.
