If youre looking for a hard to find profile or specialty timber this is the place to go. Prices can be high but the service is top notch

BMC Smoot Lumber Company closes at 5pm but Keisha helped me pick out windows and doors at 4:40pm. She is a gem! If you like wooden banisters, counter tops, and hardware for your house, this is the place to dream and place your order! There are 2 floors of sample windows, doors, etc. Everything today is expensive but here I didnt have to break the bank. Parking was a breeze (but I did come late). Great customer service. TJ was extremely helpful and he took the time to make sure that my order was correct even though it was not a large project in the scheme of things. He was not concerned about the size of the order but the level of service. Highly recommended.

No one calls back. We had the old door with us, they did not want it. The miller was supposed to call in a few days. We brought it home and waited A MONTH for a bid, then they say leave the door with us before we start the job.You get assigned one person and if he is not at his desk, no one else will help you.I can bring back one door (wasted trip!). But one door is a bedroom door and the tenant -- understandably -- wants his door in the shortest time possible. Now I am back to waiting for the assigned person, or the miller, or the manager, to call back.Can we order two doors and bring one by now and one by as soon as the miller is ready? how long will that take?We have been customers THIRTY YEARS. Our tenants are mad at us, and I surely do not blame them.

I have been dealing with Smoot for year and they Have Never Failed me in getting products to the Job site on time and prices are Very Reasonable..

Building materials

Attention owners / builders, there is a 20% restocking fee on the returns which they dont tell you upfront. Also no returns after 30 days. Yes, this is not home depot. And as soon as they hear about the returns they try to wash you off. They dont return your calls and they ignore your emails. And lastly dont let your sub-contractors to get in the middle of your transactions that is when the whole scam begins. Dishonest salesman, at least the one in Alexandria that I did deal with. Look for another distributor you will save yourselves a lot of headache.

This is my in-town go to for lumber, trim, tools and fasteners. The staff are helpful and well informed. The store is well lit and the back of the store is navigated by knowledgeable likeable folks.

Ed was awesome and able to point me in the right direction with a particular wood and cut for an art installation. Will definitely be returning for all future art builds!

I really can’t say enough about the cheerful professionalism of Keisha Marshall, Smoot’s window expert. I had a very small problem with some rotted trim that required a fair amount of time to resolve with a large manufacturer. A lot of time, low return. Other companies, no surprise, blew me off. Keisha took the time to solve my problem. And along the way she helped me understand window options and ways to save money by avoiding unnecessary extras. Such professionalism, in my experience, is rare. I’m impressed. When I’m ready to replace my windows, I’m calling Keisha first!

I needed to pick up some wood for a small project in my home and boy did I luck out with this place! They have a great selection of different woods for your various projects and a helpful staff. I would definitely go back for any wood purchases.

Really friendly, came in for a simple base board and they treated me like I was their only customer. One employee gave my son a toy to play with. They are the only base I will get lumber from going forward! Great job!

The receptionist answering the phone refused to help and repeatedly transferred our calls to voice mail (December 30th at approximately 1:25pm EST). Thanks to this lack of customer service, Smoot has lost a paying customer. A shame that a business chooses to be represented so poorly to potential customers.

You guys need to mark or indicate a line for customers for as long as I can remember lines have formed right down the middle and customers where served in order now you got a lot of homeowners coming in and there are lines every where.

I was in the process of building a pergola and needed a quote on the lumber (both cedar and pressure treated). Not only were the professionals at Smoot knowledgeable, but they also offered insightful and helpful suggestions. Their delivery was timely, and while there was a mix-up with some of the lattice, they made it right. This is a store that is geared toward the professional market, or at least consumers with some knowledge of the trade.

Smoot Lumber is like Home Depot Expo, except with nice stuff in a smaller space.For reference, the showroom hours are:Mon - Fri 7am - 4pm,Sat 7 am - 12 noon.Sun closed.The service there is really great too.
