The food was ok, some dishes much better than others. Menu too small, for the size of the place, they should have a more substantial menu. Coffee was ok, meaning the cold brews and iced lattes. As I mentioned a couple things on the menu were very very good, the rest were ok. We came here for the ambiance, so cool, just for that I’m giving 5 stars, it’s worth popping in. It’s a converted post office very well decorated cool place to hang out. I just think the food could be better, this would be my only minor complaint. For food choices and flavor of food I would give 4 stars. Still have to stop in and look around, so cool love this place!

This was my first visit to Post Commons, Alton, IL. The handmade-from-scratch breakfast burritos and vegetable and egg sandwiches were unique and tasty. The coffee with espresso shots was superb. I have no idea what the nightlife is like at this remodeled Federal building. Im guessing nightlife is great fun though. The old Post Office conversion is really well done and well intended. Some floor and wall areas could use a little soap and water -- hint hint! The bar areas were certainly interesting and creative (see one image). Highly recommended.

Inside this coffee shop is definitely one to see in downtown Alton. I wish their menu was broader. I did enjoy their pancake (it was filling). The coffee was kinda watered down, but it was still good, especially since I hadn’t had coffee in such a long time. The person who took our order was kind in helping me order the coffee I wanted. After that, I never heard from any of the staff.

Very cool building. Good food, some decently priced considering. Coffee dark but good. Great views, marble and woodwork. Some annoying patrons but its hyperliberal and sort of trust fund/trustafarian magnet eg uw Madison or any private university so only so much you can expect. Lots of space to avoid getting stuck at first seat having to hear histrionic conversation (30 something trustafarian man) next to you or the occasional overly aggressively inspecting.Think Old bakery with an overcaffeinated, entitled campus edge. Much better than outside for hot and cold days. Options are sort of limited to be in public in Alton so great to see another place giving it a shot. Great ceilings and bathroom hardware. Edwardsville doesnt have castles and river views...

Incredible renovation of an old stone post office into a chic coffee shop. Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, lots of natural light. I didnt try the coffee but the breakfast food was very good. My only reason for the four stars instead of five is the pricing. $7 for a bowl of yogurt is steep.

Post is a great place with lots of seating and wide open areas. The post office feel is a lot of fun and I appreciate the posters around that detail some of Altons history. Besides that, the coffee is great. I like to get the Americano with some of their rye toast and jam. The staff is helpful and cheerful even early in the morning! We just had an engagement party here. We had good communication with the chef and Cheryl regarding the rental and details of our party, which was important since the engaged couple lived in California. The facility was perfect for the vibe we wanted, and we were able to add our own personal touch with decor. The food was very good and beautifully presented! He hit a homerun with what was asked for. The food is good, the desserts and brunch famous, the surroundings and ambiance are surreally pleasant, the art and community engagement alone makes it a cultural focus, but the BAR is a draw in and of itself. Its a superpremium back bar, and their drinks list is a skillfully curated blend of classic cocktails (Post Commons French 75 is the best Ive ever had, second ONLY to the French Laundry in Napa), local creations, and seasonal libations. If youre in a position to indulge in a little (responsible) day drinking, and youre anywhere in the Riverbend, I highly recommend it. Youll thank yourself later!
