I had an eye exam at eye mart first thing in the morning and then placed an order for my glasses to be fixed. Unable to see well without my glasses, I did not want to drive anyway. It was pretty early in the mornings but the Flying Dutchman was open at 6am!!! I got this reindeer Sausage Croissant, it had reindeer sausage inside cheese croissant. The croissant was so buttery the whole thing was so delicious I ate it way too quickly I wish I would’ve bought two! I also bought a chocolate bat, I’m so used to artificial chocolate that I forgot what natural chocolate taste like, it tasted so amazing it wasn’t overly sweet it wasn’t too bitter it was really yummy. I also ordered a raspberry cheesecake tart I haven’t tried it yet but it looks delicious. Very friendly service, a warm atmosphere and complementary coffee, please remember to tip.

Flying Dutchman is the place to go for early morning selection of fancy pastries.My personal favorites are the creme cheese ones and the cinnamon roll things. It’s pricey and there is nowhere to sit but it’s the best in town. I’ve had some cakes here and they were okay, a little dry, but I’m not a huge cake person so take that with a grain of salt.Oh and they weirdly have free drip coffee too which is brewed quite well.

Im super excited I moved to town because Im that much closer to the best pastry shop in town! Its a small place but what they have is amazing and worth the trip if your not in the neighborhood. We love the eclectic mix of baked goods - there are many things here to satisfy your sweet tooth! Thats the only problem - what to get? Go with my method: get a bit of everything and eat your way through them. One of my favorites is the chocolate croissant. I wasnt a fan of croissants until I had a real good one a few years ago - well let me tell you - this is amazing.

Great local bakery. A small business that puts quality first. This isnt a place to come to eat, rather a place to buy a special cake or treats for a special occasion. This is one of the oldest bakeries in town, and you wont be disappointed.

Very good pastries. My favorite is the cream cheese cinnamon roll. Best cinnamon roll Ive ever had.--After trying more of their offerings, Ive had to adjust my rating mainly due to throwing away $40 on one of the worst cheesecakes Ive ever had (whose bright idea put a 1 inch thick layer of cloying sugar frosting on top of a 1.5 inch thick plain cheesecake?).Some items are worth the indulgence, but it seems to be hit or miss with some products being outstanding and others being garbage.

I purchased a chocolate raspberry cake 10” for $50... I’m not sure if I’ll go back. Sad to say the chocolate sponge was bland and practically without any flavor. The frosting was also very bland in flavor... the only thing that tasted good was the raspberry filling. I had high hopes... sad to say, I may not return for further business.

The cakes & cupcakes are amazing, cookies are great too. Everything Ive tried didnt disappoint which is a big deal compared to other places.

Got some sweets there a few days ago. Ive got to say, the sweets taste more like straight up sugar then how I was hopping theyd taste. Plus the cinnamon roll had just butter on it, and not cream cheese.....and it was slightly under baked inside and I found a few hairs. Urp.

Wow (after our initial visit)! We tried the Lemon bar (not too sweet and lots of diverse textures) and the Cream Horns. The Cream Horns are almost too good looking to eat...but when you inevitably do, they are AMAZING!!! Very subtle and unique treats. You could probably eat 4 of them and not realize it. We will be visiting this pastry shop many more times!!!

My family has been going here for maybe 15 years now? It’s been a while since we have popped in, but their cakes and key lime cake is the best.

The best bakery Ive been to in town, the ladies there are just a delight and everything tastes amazing!!! Alaskan gifts as well and this honey is amazing.Im telling everyone to come here

This is hands down the best pastry shop in Anchorage! My God, I have never, and dont think I will ever have a better rhubarb bar in my life.

The cake tasted good but the decoration was not impressive. I could of gotten better decoration done at Walmart for half the price... Won’t make that mistake again

Absolutely delicious pastries and sandwiches. Such a difference in quality from those mass produced in grocery stores, and unique from other bakeries as well. The cakes are simply outstanding for a special occasion, and special orders of any of their items, or one such as cupcakes, are timely made. I love this place! Love their unique Dutch items, the doggie treats, and always-available Alaska-themed Christmas tree decorations as well.And, outstanding staff.

Stopped in for a mixture of pastries on my way to work for something different. What nice people! Enjoyed the pastries so much, went great with morning coffee, and thinking my next birthday cake will have to come from here. So good! And they do gluten free chocolate raspberry cakes! Im so going back!

Oh, my, lordy, lordy! This place has the best baked goods in town. The blueberry and the cherry tart were amazing. The scones, put it in your mouth and just forget about it, so good. In all seriousness, these guys have the sweets and cakes you are looking for.

Made my daughters wedding cake and we received so many compliments. I had many asking where we had it made. It was that good! Best in town and all homemade.

**Watch Out!!!***The owner lacks professionalism to say the least. I placed an order for a cake and was sure to be VERY specific with directions as to what I wanted. Needless to say, the cake was NOT what I asked for. When I called Frieda (the owner) to ask for a small discount - not even to re make the cake! - she was extremely rude and in a very condescending tone replied, “I’m sorry it isn’t just ‘perfect’! I don’t know what you expect me to do!”. Well, when I place a specific order and I’m paying $50 for a cake - yes, I expect the directions I gave to be taken seriously and not just for consideration. Both her and the lady at the counter acted as though IIIII was in the wrong!! I WONT be returning.

Flying Dutchman is definitely the way to go for a no hassle wedding cake experience. We ordered a three tier wedding cake from them and it was not only visually stunning but delicious too. The people there are very friendly and easy to work with. I highly recommend them.

It is so nice to have a place that can create classic European pastries with the skill and attention to detail that we enjoy in France right in the middle of Anchorage. Love it!

Friendly staff and good treats. I especially enjoy the free tea when I visit. Cakes are higher quality and therefore more expensive, so dont get too much sticker shock when walking in.

The pastries are amazing and there is a wide variety of them. My favorite being the fruit and almond tarts. The only let down is the customer service from the staff. They have not been the friendliest the last few times I have been in.
