Sometimes you donβt want to be the one to have to state the truth, especially when nobody wants to admit it. But this place is just not that good. It is overpriced and the quality is just so so. I used to go because they had a quaint, pleasant little seating area. But now thatβs gone, so why even bother. I wonβt come here anymore.
Iβve been wanting to visit a bakery in town since I first moved here and I had a few people recommend this place to me. After going I can see why. The pastries are delicious and the young lady who greeted me, helped me and gave me suggestions on what to get and they were all great. Very nice atmosphere. 10/10 recommend. You canβt leave without getting one of their chocolate chip cookies.
Fire Island is an Anchorage jewel. While it is absolutely the best bakery in the state, it is arguably one of the best in the country. Every Saturday morning is improved by one of their campagne or a seeded baguette. But it is more than just a bakery, its a community anchor, that helps other local companies shine. If you find yourself in anchorage, dont leave without a trip here.
Recently moved to Anchorage and this place makes me happy! Iβm from New York and any New Yorker knows that your local bakery holds a special place in your heart. This is my new local bakery! The Campagne bread is the perfect balance between crusty and airy. I purchase two loaves a week and I eat them with eggs and anchovies or cream cheese and lox for breakfast and and evening snack of truffle spread and wine. I also order a variety of pastries and cookies! Most items are absolutely delicious. I also feel good about allowing my 10 month old to eat their bread or scones because they use organic flour and minimal sugar in many of their items. The staff is wonderful! They are helpful, kind, friendly, patient and most importantly efficient! I absolutely love this place and I would recommend that you give it a try.Even the limited number of days that itβs opened works for me. I have something to look forward to on Wednesday and the perfect way to reward myself on Saturday after a walk! Iβm happy to patronize this bakery and to recommend the baked goods.
Great baked goods and sandwiches! A bit of a flow issue for entrance and egress through a single door in pandemic
Bread, pastries, sweets; whats not to love. Every morning is crazy busy, but the shop runs like a well oiled machine, somehow working through the line quickly and simultaneously taking their time with each customer. Every single thing Ive had was amazing, but the savory danishes and walnut macarons were my favorite.
I discovered this place on a business trip, I honestly loved it a lot and kept going back! I am from Paris, France and have high expectations when it comes to food and especially bakeries, These ones are extremely good, tasty and not too sweet. They all fresh out of the oven, so delicious! If you are looking for a good bakery, look no further than Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop! Besides, the staff is extremely friendly :)
A must visit when in Anchorage! The monkey bread is particularly good. Also enjoyed the chocolate croissants.
Food was amazing but cold, perhaps better warmers for the βhot foods.β But overall good.
Do not even hesitate! You MUST go to this bakery if youβre in Anchorage! The food is no doubt amazing but the service is spectacular! As soon as they found out that I was a Fire Island virgin, I was offered a cookie to sample their goods. We couldnβt decide on what to get so the team made sensational recommendations to which we obliged- scones, sandwiches, frittata and cookies - we ate the lot!
Very cute and cozy local bakery with good selections of both savory and sweet items. The service is efficient, and the food is fresh.
I love this place, bummer part is my days off in the past coincidentally were on the days of the week they were closed. πMade it there today and was just like the first time I was there. I loved it, to me, they have the best Sourdough Bread to, nice lil surprise in almost downtown Anchorage. I recommend this place to locals and visitors. Glad and very happy I made it there today.
Wow, amazing spot in Anchorage! Everything is fresh, and service is superb. Will definitely be back.
Flaky croissant, lovely scones and muffins. Wanted to try everything since everything looks so good and wasnt disappointed at all for things that we got. Highly recommended.
If youre searching for a bottomless coffee and a fresh warm pastry then you found your new home. The Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop is a great place to have a small breakfast and a long conversation with a friend. While you salivate next to the pastries and muffins you can watch the employees bake right in front of you! There is a small area of tables, but if you dont find a table remember there are more tables near the entrance and tables outside.Caution.. the coffee is very very hot!If this review was helpful please click the Like button.March 2019(1) Scone: $3.75(1) Muffin: $3.75(1) Chocolate Chip Cookie: $2.00(1) Coffee: $2.50Tax: $0.00May 2019(1) Mini Dipped Coconut Macaroon: $1.50(1) Roast Beef Sandwich: $11.00(1) Prosciutto Sandwich: $11.00Tax: $0.00June 2019(1) Smoked Pork Loin Sandwich: $11.00(1) Ham and Swiss Sandwich: $11.00(1) Filled Cupcake: $6.00Tax: $0.00
This neighborhood bakery makes incredible sweet and savory goods. Well worth a visit!
Love this place. The welcoming smell of fresh baked product.Open Kitchen set up is a sure win.Clean and Friendly Service.Bit pricey but overall experience is Great when you know that you are paying for the quality of the product the price will come after.Simple and humble yet interesting place. Highly Recommended.
We ate ham n Swiss sandwich n veggie sandwich. It was very good. Folks at the shop are very friendly. Great place to have your breakfast!
This place is the best. Nice assortment of pastries and sandwiches, friendly, helpful staff, outdoor tables only as of today.
All the food is fantastic, but service today was challenged. To busy talking to each other while customers wait for their orders to be filled.
I placed a large order back in April 2021 for muffins and croissants for my wedding in July 2021- I had a really hard time ever getting back in touch with them to confirm the order because nobody answers the phones, but 1 week prior to my scheduled pick up date, I managed to get ahold of someone to confirm the order! When I arrived on the scheduled day to pick everything up, the bakery was closed. After knocking for a few minutes someone happened to pass by and notice me. It was a manager from another location, they completely forgot about my order and because they were closed had nothing they could do about it. The order form with the recipt from payment was right there on the counter when she took me inside. They were extremely apologetic and refunded me fully and in addition, gave me a gift card for future use (which I gave to family as I am not from Alaska and would not get the chance to use it). They did what they could in the moment but I was really disappointed that my order was missed. There were no other bakeries who could fulfill my order with less than 24 hours notice.
First time here. It was really busy when we got there, but we were greeted and helped right away. The macorons were pretty delicious. I got the ham and Swiss sandwhich which was better than I imagined. The bread for the sandwiches are on the harder side, so make sure you open wide when you take a bite.
I have been able to eat croissants across then US including Tartine in San Francisco and the croissants here are on the same, world class level. 10/10.
Dropped in after reading in the spring edition Edible Alaska that the head baker was nominated for a James Beard award. Exterior is subdued and its in the middle of a neighborhood but you know youre in the right place because there are gobs of people outside eating baked things. You enter into a veritable beehive of activity with at least a dozen people engaged in the art of baking. The training of all these people alone must be quite an accomplishment!First thing you see are cakes and tarts, followed quickly by breads and then the main course (for me at least), savory and sweet delights.I was greeted by a very friendly woman and ordered the breakfast focaccia based on the fact that it looked awesome and I was really hungry. I added a blueberry bran muffin because I love blueberries and muffins (no offense to bran). Checkout was quick and painless. Despite a small line I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.Focaccia was surprisingly filling and very easy to easy outside on a bench in the sun. I saved the bran muffin for about 15 minutes while I drove to a highly rated coffee shop where I discovered that there was a whole bush of blueberries inside. It paired nicely with a mocha. Will be going back to try to grab a loaf of bread for my homestay hosts. Highly recommended to anyone in the Anchorage area
Cute location with wonderful baked goods. Their sandwiches explode with flavor, the cookies are perfect, the scones, and cardamom rolls are flaky and dry, just waiting for a good tea or coffee partner. Everyone here is always a pleasure and the baked good high quality.
This place has some of the best breakfast and lunch food and everyone on staff is super friendly and helpful!!! A must visit!!β
Well, I could write volumes. I wish I could review each item. We get challah most weeks. Tried to quit it via family pact that had us attempting to cut carbs, didnβt work. If we manage to not eat the entire loaf in the car on the way home, sometimes we are able to resist long enough for weekend French Toast. The bread is so good that you canβt mess it up...but vanilla, nutmeg and sweetened condensed milk added to the egg sends it over the top.I digress. The cupcakes are out of this world. Seriously out of this world! So are the chocolate chip cookies...I canβt even get through one, they are so deliciously rich. The macarons are melt-in-your-mouth incredible and they have lovely boxes that they package them in making for a special any occasion gift. Honestly, I canβt think of anything Iβve had there that I havenβt loved...including their sandwiches and wraps. Their beet sandwich is my personal favorite. They have locations in Airport Heights and Downtown Anchorage. My only problem with Fire Island...a few mouthfuls translate to an added mile on the bike. On second thought...not a bad incentive to get outside!
Full of delicious goodness with quick and friendly service!
There is no other real bakery in town! This is it!!! Its like European bakery cafe. We literally go through withdrawals when they close for a month in January! Fun..fun...taste is great and lots to choose from..
Food and coffee are excellent. Everything is fresh baked/prepared.
Delicious! Loved the blueberry toasted oats scone.
The sandwich was delicious. The scones are great too.
Tasty bakery but- we called ahead to ask if they had macarones and even confirmed their location. They said they had coconut macarones and we arrived 5 minutes later. We got there and they told us they werent carrying macarones because theyre two bakers down, not because they just ran out. They suggested we try their other location on the other side of town (they didnt offer to call and find out if they were carrying them.) Besides that weve enjoyed everything weve ever bought there, and they have a clean cozy atmosphere to eat in.
Best bakery we tried in anchorage. Cardamon bun is to die for.
Great Place ama
This is an absolute must stop for anytime I visit Anchorage! Delicious treats!
WOW!!! Great food, great service! Definitely my fave eatery!
Great selection! Almost like the corner bakery I used to live near.
Ordered a spicy halibut and BLT sandwich for brunch along with a trifle. Everything tasted fresh and delicious - absolutely loved the spicy halibut and the bread. Highly recommended!
I really like the flavor of the dark sourdough bread, however, the crust is way too hard for my liking. It also falls apart when slicing it, not good!
The chocolate muffin with chocolate icing is delicious
Muffins, scones and cakes all delicious
Delicious sandwiches.
So good. I love everything here, everything
Best baked goods in Anchorage.
This is a hugely popular place and it has expanded its space to accommodate more customers. Great stop for quick coffee/tea and baked goods or to go. All the baked goods, breads, scones, cupcakes, cookies & more are excellent! They also offer sandwiches and from scratch soups for lunch or later.Prices are moderate for the products. Service is always friendly. This business is the creation of a local Alaskan who is very friendly and an accomplished baker.Folks like to gather and visit and it may take a while to get a table. Parking is on street in a residential area and can be tight.
Service is really good, and the food was very good as well. Though something to keep in mind. A lot of their stuff is baked first thing in the morning. So the earlier youre there the fresher!
Food quality is good, but the management is horrific. They are inept and poorly trained
Nice and cozy little bakery inside of a residential area. Near to downtown, but outside of the hustle and bustle. Bread and pastries made fresh, and the kitchen area is open so you can watch the bakers at work. Everyone here was very pleasant and it was a joyful experience. Will probably visit again when I am in town.
Best chocolate chips cookies!!!
The savory scones are unbeatable.
Oh my goodness!! This place is amazing!!! The quality and flavor of the food were both excellent! All the staff were friendly and had a great demeanor about them. I also appreciated seeing diversity among the staff! It would seem the staff actually enjoy working here, and that shows through the food.
My first visit, and i cannot say enough good about this place. From the moment you enter, warm smells of bread and baked goods surround you. The entrance provides a view into the ovens and prep areas. You can see goods being made and coming out of the ovens directly. The staff was very helpful and provided some wonderful recommendations.Best egg in a hole Ive ever had. Chocolate croissants were crisp and delicious. Muffins were light and flavorful, but filling. It was quiet when i came in, around 7:30 on a sunday, so atmosphere was quiet but staff made it feel welcoming.I will be coming back.
Fantastic breads. I want all of the things they make here. Wish my stomach was bigger.
Fabulous pastries and bread!
Not what I expected at all! The only food place in Anchorage Ive been to that I would recommend to others visiting. One of the bright spots on my stay in the city for sure!
The best place ever!
It has wonderful items you have been looking for. Pickled green beans, homemade pickles in several different flavors. Wonderful breads ECT. Sure youll find something youll like and come back for more.
Great cookies.....
Pretty good although not worth going out of my way for.
This place is the best!
Smells wonderful π₯° when you walk in. Loved the blueberry, lavender cupcake!!! The ham and swiss sandwich rocks!!
Not bad, the raspberry lemon scone was good, the chocolate croissant was good, not a fan of the cinnamon rolls or the cream cheese frosting.
Real. Simply real built from the grain up baked goods. Choc chip cookies so perfect you wish you could mimic at home. Great, friendly service. A real treat hidden in the neighborhood.
Easily the best bakery in Alaska. If youre looking for authentic European bread, look no further! Words cant begin to describe their buttery scones.
Amazing for breakfast or lunch. Worth just popping your head in regularly to see what they have. Everything you order will be delicious. Somethings are kind of strange and unique but awesome. If you like rustic, this is the place. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality food and service. Great for a casual date lunch.
Been here only a few times and its starting to become a favorite. I enjoy their monkey bread and croissants. With much more to offer with tables waiting. This place seems to be a trendy spot for the younger group.
Well worth the fair prices. Lived in Europe for a while and this is the best bread youβll get in Alaska (flavor, texture). Service is friendly, and the place has a reputation for being good to their workers. We live in Juneau now and always make a stop in to treat ourselves to high quality bread and pastries.
The people here are great! I needed a cake at the last minute & called ahead. By the time I arrived, they had it boxed up, ready to go & even found a way to write Happy Birthday on top! Great job... Much appreciated!
Good little bakery
Love this place! Theres always a line when Ive been.... because the baked goods are fabulous! Staff is friendly. They have everything from breakfast sandwiches to pies and cakes, including gourmet cheeses and local products. We come to Anchorage annually and this trip would not be complete without a visit to this local treasure.
Freshly baked breads, pastries, cookies and cakes. Their tasty treats never disappoint. The expanded location is bright, airy, and attractive. The staff are always friendly. I know folks have said that prices are a little high, but a) this is Alaska and b) the bakery only uses the best ingredients. You can definitely tell this in the quality of their product, which is superior to most other places in town. Fire Island is always worth a visit!
We stopped in on a recommendation we received in Denali and loved the bakery! Even before walking in theres a sweet smell of pastries. Once we got inside we were overwhelmed by the number of delicious looking options. The bakery has a huge range of breads and pastries and some very unique breakfast foods like focaccia topped with eggs, potatoes, peppers, and optionally homemade and locally sourced sausage. The breakfast sandwich is similar with poached eggs, cheese, lettuce, homemade hot sauce, and either sausage or avocado. On my way out I picked up a baguette and was ready to go when the server recommend I get the seeded baguette. It was an excellent suggestion! The food was delicious and I wish I was able to spend a few days sampling everything.Im excited to be back in Anchorage next week to try some more!
Fire Island has a cult following in Anchorage. Its a nice walk from downtown, and its really neat to see their bakery in action-- the kitchen is the center piece of this place. They have a lot of options for lunch and dessert, and I hear the food is great! I didnt find any egg-free options that I was interested in, so I didnt eat here... but the rest of my party loved this place. Its very tight as you wait in line during peak times. Theres lots of outdoor seating, though, and theres a little free library where kids and adults can find books to read.
Amazing treats
The sandwiches and baked goods were superb! I also enjoyed the coffee. The line up and order call over the counter is a bit intimidating for the first time, but I can see how you would be able to get in a groove once you went a couple of times. A daily menu of all the bread, sandwich and salad choices could help when the line is long and you cant peruse the counter ahead of time, but I get how that would be tough to keep up with. All in all, I enjoyed my meal. Price points are a little high, but if you consider the quality of the product, they are actually reasonable. They definitely have a staff of professionals that know their business! So, kudos for that.
