I was there in September 2019 and it was a great place to visit. As a knife collector it was very interesting to me to watch as they made the Ulu knives. If youre in Anchorage I strongly recommend visiting the Ulu Factory.

After a fun trolley ride from downtown to this small factory that manufacturers a unique utility knife named Ulu, that has a long and current history with the Alaskan people. You can see them manufactured from start to finish. In addition, there is a wide assortment of nicely crafted wooden, leather and artistic goods for purchase in their gift shop. It was a fun and educational side trip. Enjoy.

Wow, what an incredible store!! I was fascinated when I started learning about the Ulu knives and made this my first stop in Anchorage after a long day of flying from NY. I didnt realize they had so many incredible Alaskan gift items. I ended up buying 3 Ulu knives and a bunch of random gifts (including gold painted poop..yes poop..earrings for my sister!!) As if the amazing selection wasnt enough, the staff weny above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I will definitely be returning before the week is over for more gifts!!

Great store, friendly staff and great deals on some with minor imperfections. Bought two with ulu and dish for foodies on my Christmas list and two more with imperfections for me and my daughter... also the dvd how to which I will pass along after I see it. Perfect Alaskan gift and slightly cheaper than the same ones sold elsewhere at retail stores.

Very nifty. Great stuff to look at. Good prices. They are producing products on site and you can watch them work. Very interesting display of native made, centuries old ulu knives. Good tourist stop, fun place for locals to buy gifts.

A neat place to visit and checkout. Be sure to take a good tour of the place and take the nearby trolley as well. On Saturdays an open market opens nearby selling arts and craft.

We should have realized this was a bust when all of the men were sitting outside on the porch. All nearby parking was paid ($2 or $5, depending on the lot), no blades cut on site, mostly just assembling and laser engraving on the handle. Gift shop had all the same stuff youve seen in other gift shops. If are in Anchorage on a Saturday, skip Ulu and head to the outdoor market just up the hill -- that was much more interesting and well worth the paid parking.

Over hyped tourist spot with largely the same items as most tourist shops in town. Though the factory work is interesting, but guides were not to helpful in explaining the process or history and the tool, and did not do a good job hyping an Ulu over a conventional knife. If your honestly interested in Ulu history, a museum may be a better choice and less out of your way.

It is a nice shop for their products and other Alaska made items. You can hear them making the Ulus and if you ask they will let you see them working. They also sell bowls made up in Fairbanks. The store is close to the train station so walk over if you have time. Also close by is The Bridge restaurant and a fishing building. No I dont work at any of these businesses. I am retired Texas educator now living in Alaska for 3 of the last 4 years.

This is a fun store to visit. They give demonstrations on how to use and care for an ulu and a history of the ulu. The owner has a collection of very old, pre-historic ulus on display as well. You can pick up nice souvenir ulus or spend a little more on some made by local artists or with caribou or fancier handles. This is worth a stop to learn about ulus and do your souvenir shopping.

Regular gift shop, nothing really special apart from glimpse of workers working on the knives. If you really love and adore the Ulu Knife, you should absolutely visit. Otherwise, you can safely skip this and wont miss much. The other perk of this place is perhaps that the knives are cheaper. Many other touristy place/ gift shops sells this too, and I recall seeing them charging $10 or more at other places, so if you are buying many of these knives, swing by!Probably a 10-15mins unlike what the many tourist book which estimated a 30-45 minute visit. There is a mini centerpiece which showcase artifacts of past ulu knives and how it have evolved over time.Other than the knives, they stock pretty much the same gift shop items as the other shops around town.
