Overall decent place to play mtg commander on monday nights. There is a small selection of singles to purchase and a semi decent stock of bulk cards from older sets. The low review is a warning for future customers due to a interaction I had with an employee that did not sit right with me.They run a promotion with another store in which they give out tickets when you show up on monday nights. They then raffle those tickets at the start of the month for prizes. However, I was just given the tickets and told that they would be calling numbers and I did not need to worry about writing my name. During the raffle, Eric (sp?), an employee told me that what I was told by another employee was incorrect and it was not his problem. It felt as if it was too much an inconvenience to read the few numbers off the tickets to give everyone a fair shot, and my complaint was brushed off. I did not really care all too much about the prize but the attitude I did not appreciate.

This is my go to place for painting miniatures. The staff is friendly, and there is a dedicated area for us to enjoy our hobby with friends.

Super super kind people. My wife was shopping at an adjacent store that didn’t allow customers to use the restroom. Before I jumped into the car to drive my daughter to anther business with a bathroom, The employee at Game Castle heard me what was going on as I was going to leave and allowed my daughter to use their restroom.Once inside I noticed that they had some cars games going on. They have a good assortment of different board games as well as cards and card games. I will recommend this place because I know that they are nice people. Anyone who wants to get into card games such as Magic and Pokémon, this place work set you in the right direction. Thank you.

My husband and I frequent this store for commander night on Mondays. I love the friendly atmosphere that the employees provide. The store itself is clean and is decorated really nicely. They also have a few private party rooms you can rent for DandD or magic night with friends.

Did a gaming tour of the Ames, Ankeny, and Des Moines area and found this gem of a store. This place was quite immaculate from the fancy bathrooms, to the play space, and beyond. They have quite the supply of nerdom, everything from RPG’s, Games Workshop, and a wide variety of board games. Their play space is quite impressive and they have a white board as soon as you come in with the events going on daily. One of the stores I was really curious about turned out to be quite the home run and the staff was great.

Excellent game store! Solid board game selection, great stock of war gaming supplies (from minis to paints to expansions), as well as lots of stuff for tabletop RPGs like D&D and Pathfinder. The true gem is the play area though! Lots of space and the option to rent private rooms is tough to beat. Very pleased to have them in Ankeny!

Seems like a really promising store. TONS of boardgames, a bit on the pricey side but I understand lots of these things have set prices. They have game nights it seems and I imagine it will get better as they get more established. They also sell cards, like pokemon and magic, and D&D books, and minis. and the like.

Went in for my first time tonight (had been meaning to for awhile). They have a good selection of games and competitive prices. They have a small weiner dog that roams the place as well who I enjoyed meeting. I well definitely be going back.

This new store has a good location, friendly staff, and the inside is very nice.They have a wide variety of board games for sale, as well as a smaller but not insignificant selection of miniature games and TTRPG books and TCGs, as well as snacks.The small game rooms are very nice looking, and they have a larger, open area for bug group event or playing games that need more space.I’d personally like to see a larger selection of different TTRPGs, but that is personal preference.Overall, I would recommend this store. I hope that they are able to be successful despite Covid cutting into the possibility of certain types of games or events.Edit: corrected a spelling error.

I mainly play MTG. I’ve been in a few times now, and they have a great selection of card sleeves, dice, deck boxes, and boosters. The theme rooms they have for group play (DnD, Magic, tabletop games) is really cool, and brings flare that I have yet to see in other gaming stores.Edit: recently stopped in and asked if they had any trading card binders for sale. Employee at the register says No, we’re out. Doesnt look up from his computer, doesnt ask any further questions or how they can help. If you’re going to work retail, customer engagement is top of the list. Very disappointed.

Awesome staff! Came in just to check it out while driving through ankeny. The staff let me know all the cool stuff they have. Probably the nicest local game store I’ve seen ever, the gaming area was awesome they even had separate rooms all decked out and themed to play with your friends I’m guessing. Super legit 🤙🏼

Creatively decorated rooms for rent for game events, nice selection of games for purchase and a schedule of gaming, so you can meet people (and play) games you are interested in. Love the friendly little dog that welcomes you!

Went in just to buy an item they said please wear a mask I said I don’t due to medical reasons. She said i had to. I said I just buy my item and I will go she said she couldn’t sell me item without a mask what a joke. Lost out on big buy will tell all friends and family to not go here. No I won’t buy from company that won’t be more compassionate about people medical needs cause not everyone can wear one a mask do better.

They had an assortment of awesome games that ranged from all levels of play, and an extensive supply of DND tools for building your setup or characters. Can’t wait for covid to end to go there for game nights!
