I went to Mapes to buy a 2 x 4 x 8 piece of wood for work and they were charging me 22.98 per 2 x 4 x8 when I asked why, they said their price went up. I can see going up a few dollars but this is price gouging at its finest. Ridiculous

Overpriced and underwhelmed customer service. I’ve always known that they overcharge for items since significantly more than their competitors I understand that they may be convenient but I don’t think that warrants excessive increase in rates. In 2020 as soon as word got out that people were looking to stock up on goods I saw that they jacked up their prices immediately which I found very bothersome. Recently when I had to make a return associate refused to give me my receipt back which had other items that I potentially would need to return so now without a receipt I’m stuck with those items, I’ve never seen a business refuse to give the original receipt back, seems very shady and unprofessional. Needed a garden scooter to sit a scoot while tending flowers near the ground. I found one at Mapes! Its the kind of hardware store that has everything. You could brows for.hours.

I like this place. Staff is helpful and patient. Just wish they had masks that stayed up over their noses. Both workers I saw had this problem. Hardly ever go into stores and thought this one would be better about it.

Mapes is a great local hardware store. It would he unfare to compare the place with the likes of a Lowes or Home Depot. However, the place does have the necessities and a good staff.I cant comment on price comparisons but I dont think they are fair.

I had been shopping at Mapes for about thirty years in different locations. I thought it was a fabulous, fantastic store and spent hundreds of dollars there every year. The staff was always very polite and helpful--until today. They hired a kid who said his name was Jeff, although he probably made it up. He was unspeakably nasty and rude and said to me Get out of my store because I told him that ten minutes was too long to wait for a check to clear because he didnt know how to use their new system. Atfer almost ten+ minutes he refused to take my check although I had been writing them at Mapes for years and was a regular customer. He told me he was going to call the police if I didnt get out of his store. I then gave him an AX card and left. he came out of the store and told me to give his stuff back altho I had already charged it. His behavior was crude, nasty, rude and unspeakable. I told him what I thought of him and left. No response from Mapes. Incidentally I am a senior citizen.
