If u and the family have a craving for ice cream do not go here. Definitely cannot bring your kids and grandma here. Never witnessed my child refuse to finish ice cream until we tried this place. Milk shakes taste like vanilla bean lotion and/or sun screen. The cookies and cream vegan ice cream taste like water with a dash of coconut . The waffle cone was actually good but did not make up for the ice cream. However my tongue did feel moisturized afterwards.

It was a sunny hot summer day and ice cream was just calling our names. We stopped by the Hop and was pleasantly surprised by all the options of non dairy and flavor profiles. Group favorites include the salted Carmel and black mocha stout. Not to mention their brownie sundaes were worth every penny! Cheers!!

The Hop is supposed to offer premium ice cream. I was surprised how flat the taste is and how ordinary the texture is. Then I reviewed the ingredients and understood why. Their ice cream base (from which they make their flavors) is filled with additives/fillers/emulsifiers such as carrageenan, guar gum, and milk powder. It was so unappealing I ended throwing away the two pints I purchased.

Flavors that lack flavor. Every time we try ice cream here, were disappointed and its expensive. No reason to make a bunch of different flavors if you cant get the basics down. Great staff, very friendly, but sad for an ice cream shop. Their vegan flavors are especially disappointing, try Whits Custard down the street or Ben and Jerrys downtown.

The ice cream is amazing. We did a party for my daughter here last year and it was great. The staff was awesome and had everything set up and ready to go. Party host was incredibly helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly.

This is the best place in town to find homemade ice cream. The Hop offers a variety of flavors, and also caters to dietary needs by offering a large selection of vegan ice cream as well as gluten free ice cream cones. They also make specialty drinks, so parents who need a little more than sugar to keep up with their sugar-rushed children, can also enjoy beverages such as the jitterbug (ice cream with a shot of espresso). Be sure to check in for family friendly events! They have plenty of those to offer too.

I went in with high hopes for the quality of the ice cream, and this place definitely zoomed past my expectations. The woman at the counter was especially helpful, even went on a successful search in back for a seasonal flavor theyd just taken off their menu but which I wanted to try. I look forward to my next visit to the Hop. This was the Merrimon location.

The flavors were amazing. We tried pretty much all of the vegan selection. The CBD flavored one tasted just like the plant itself. Yum! They also have vegan hot fudge to top it off!

Great ice cream, awesome place for kids and parties

Every time we go into the hop, there are new flavors for us to try! Staff is always friendly and lets us try as many as wed like :) The flavors that they make are unique such as Blueberry Kale! There is also a large selection of vegan delights to choose from as well. Most of the flavors also have ingredients from local businesses, including the breweries! The renovation in this location also offers more room and an easier way to help customers come in and drift through in the line. Also has a great community bulletin board with upcoming events!

Great spot for some ice cream and sorbet. They offer vegan ice cream as well. Customer service was friendly and professional. There happy to let you sample as many flavors as you like. There was ample seating inside, as well as outdoor patio seating. The interior and exterior of the restaurant was tidy and clean. I will definitely come back again.

I LOVE The Hop. I always get the salted caramel on a waffle cone, but I have taken several friends from out of town and they all ask to go back when they visit. They have renovated since my last visit and it looks better than ever. I work with people who are on different diets, but The Hop has options for almost every diet. I highly recommend going to this location specifically. Staff are always smiling and friendly. Overall atmosphere is welcoming.

The atmosphere is very welcoming, staff nice and its great that they use natural and local ingredients. Ive tried eight flavors, and so far only one flavor actually had a real taste to it- the apple butter. All of the rest tasted very bland and didnt have much of a taste other than sugar. I hope to see them improve on the strength of the flavors in their recipes, because then this spot would be perfect.

I used the Hop for our wedding in lieu of cake and it was awesome! We got married in July- too hot for cake! They were some accommodating to all of our custom flavor changes, and even let us sample some for free before the wedding to help us choose. It was totally affordable and really fun for our guests. We loved the wedding photos with everyone holding their ice cream cones!

This place was great! Lots of flavors. Had an amazing (fresh) waffle bowl with peach blossom and blueberry kale. I was very impressed with both flavors, and the fresh made waffle bowl was a really special treat. The number of vegan options were astounding. (Didnt try any of them... Not my thing, but I was surpassed to see so many.) I will definitely be coming back to this place when Im in town again.

So I have a dairy intolerance and I was shocked to find that The Hop Ice cream had at least 6 Flavors of delicious gourmet dairy free vegan ice creams. I was so excited! I tried them all and finally settled on the cardamom ice cream. So good! Thanks for making my ice cream dreams come true!

Great spot for a small gathering! Dairy, dairy-free and vegan options, too. There was something for everyone in a crowd of picky kids. Wed be happy to return for great treats and a friendly environment.

Disappointing. Being dairy and gluten free, I was excited to treat myself here. I got the vegan peppermint, chocolate ice cream. Rather than being creamy and rich, it was gooey. It seems as if they try to shock and be creative with lots of different options and ice cream bases rather than focus on quality, in my opinion. My husband got a milkshake with dairy ice cream and it was warm.

Im having their seasonal pumpkin ice cream and its amazing! I dont mean cheap, overly sweet, pumpkin pie. I mean full fat, creamy milk with just the right amount of sweetening. Also, rather that tasting like they poured some kind of pumpkin flavoring in it, I can actually taste the squash flavor of pumpkin! Id swear they grabbed local pumpkins and pureed them into the cream! And I sampled their blueberry kale. Its so good! Reminds me of green tea ice cream with blueberry swirls! Love is served here, lol.

The Hop is an Asheville tradition. 40 years serving up top shelf ice cream. The locally made Strawberry and Salted Caramel are outstanding. I would give it give stars if the seating area was the same quality as the ice cream. But, you can always eat in your car!

Always consistent but never slammed busy. Such a nice variety of flavors and plenty of options for a variety of needs. I forget which day of the week it is, but they do offer a discount to local college students. They recently remodeled this location and it is beautiful. The business is family owned and they are very nice, humble people!

Ashley was amazing and having an ice cream wedding cake was such a unique touch to our special day. She was super helpful in picking delicious flavors (there’s so many to choose from) and organizing the logistics of delivering and serving an ice cream cake. Our guests were blown away, and we were too!

The hop is a great place to come on a warm spring or summer day. The creativity level is high and includes things like unicorn poop or dog ice cream. The staff was friendly but skipped our turn. Overall it was good.

The Hop is the place to be, especially if you have a gluten allergy. It’s clearly listed which of their flavors contain gluten. When I mentioned I had a gluten allergy, the worker immediately made my milkshake in a separate, clean blender. This service was incredibly appreciated!

The Hop has been a favorite of mine since I first visited it in 2015. Theyve only improved since then. The portions are fair, the prices are decent and the experience is always a good one. This is a great place to bring kids, a date or just yourself.

We visited the The Hop Ice Cream Cafe while on vacation and I was very impressed with the variety of dairy free/ vegan ice-cream options. (It’s not easy to find delicious dairy free ice-cream) They had so many unique flavors, highly recommend the vegan vanilla ice-cream with peaches soaked in bourbon. The staff was also super friendly and let me try several flavors before deciding.

Four of us went to the hop for ice cream because of good things that we heard. We tasted different flavors but for some reason they basically all tasted the same and didnt have much flavor. We picked the best of what we had taste-tested and got four cups of ice cream. Everybody agreed that the ice cream we got didnt really have any flavor and the consistency was not creamy at all. We were so disappointed!

This place is amazing. I’m lactose intolerant and their non dairy ice cream was the best I’ve ever had (I had the cookies and coconut cream and s’mores with almond milk). My family had dairy ice cream and said it was amazing (I snuck a little bite and it was really good). Prices were good $4.50 for a large and they could split any two ice cream flavors in any size which is a bonus.

Friendly and professional staff who are patient as you ponder and sample the unique flavors that youd never find somewhere like Dairy Queen or other, bigger, more well known ice cream shops. Best. Ice cream. Ever. And Im a serious ice cream nerd. The texture and flavor of their pistachio is on point. I always try several flavors when I go and have a hard time choosing. The flavors range from traditional to odd and are always delicious. The merrimon location has a great kids play area, too.

Wow there are some interesting flavors here. Mustard! Chinese 5 Spice! And so on. There are also quite a few vegan options. The salted caramel and honey cream were delish. I will warn you that the toppings you get with a sunday are almost not worth is. Yes there is a dollop of whip cream, but a scant drizzle of butterscotch. The tables were all clean and free of stickiness!

I just had to review this place and give Ashley 5 stars for such an amazing rehearsal cake! Ashley took a photo I sent and designed my grooms ice cream cake to look just like his bike! I cant tell you how amazing it looked! I have never been to the actual store, but Ashley was so easy to work with. This place gets my vote!

This is a great place! They have lots of vegan options, and a gluten free and vegan cone. They have the typical classics like strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate, but they also interesting flavors such as thai coffee, honey lavender, and more! Sprinkles are free, while other toppings are 80 cents each, including things like whipped cream, walnuts, strawberries, candies, etc. The flavors are delicious, and I highly recommend the chocolate, salted caramel, and thai coffee. Yum!😋 They also serve coffee, if ice cream isnt your thing. ☕🍦

I absolutely love this shop. The owners are the sweetest people on the planet and their ice creams are mind blowing. The Hop was one of my favorite haunts during my college days, too.I was floored today when I visited again. I have a pretty daunting list of food allergies, so I never expect to have many food options. But the array of non-nut/soy/dairy options was astounding. They have coconut and hemp and oat and even pepita milk based options! And the flavors are so good even a non-allergic person would love these options. (I got a hemp milk chocolate jitterbug milkshake with Oreos -- it was amazing.)Thank you for being such a kind, welcoming, and accommodating establishment. As always, the Hop has my heart. ❤️
