There have been several bakeries in this location that have tried to fulfill Hildas Bakery footsteps. None of them were able to continue the high standards we were used to, until now. The Baker and the Cake Maker delivers deliciously addicting baked goods and lunch items. The roast turkey sandwich was buttery and flavorful on a croissant. The breakfast salad was fresh and delicious with a vinaigrette dressing. I was surprised the $12 sandwich didnt include a side. I left feeling full, but not weighted down. It would be wonderful if the bakery offered half sandwich with a soup or salad combination. I would recommend an overhang where the tree is located. Items from the tree kept falling onto us and getting into our drinks. This could be a great lunch date spot. Since downtown Auburn has lots of boutique to explore, if youd like to prolong the date. We ordered a cake for my moms birthday - the fruit basket - and it did not disappoint! It was a lovely almond flavor with fresh fruits and whip cream frosting. Delicious! So good, in fact, that we enjoyed it for breakfast the next day with a cup of coffee. When picking up out cake, we did wish we had not just had food as the goodies in the display case looked equally delicious. We will certainly be going back for goodies in the future!

First off, the smell when you walk inside is like heaven. Fresh breads, pastries and coffee makes me happy. Very kind and courteous staff that helped me choose which pastry Im going to regret running a few miles for later. I got the cardamom snail, which was just a crispy, chewy, flaky piece of artwork. It went fantastic with my coffee. Ive never had the brand, Valiant Coffee before, but it is delicious.Its a good thing I came in when I did, because they were just putting out the cakes and quiches and that really is my weakness. I did get a few more goodies for my coworkers so I hope they like them as much as I did.

Fabulous baked goods!! Everything we got from here was delicious: a tomato croissant (I called it breakfast pizza- yum!), chocolate croissant (still crispy the next day!), Meyers lemon sourdough (wow!). We got the breakfast sandos and they weren’t quite what I expected, but still good. Gimme just a basic egg & cheese on some good bread… we will definitely be stopping in again for beautifully executed, fresh pastries!!

This is a great bakery located in downtown Auburn. They have a weekly cake which is special and always decadent and delicious. This cake changes every week and is always inspired and amazing.Having a French wife I have grown accustomed to judging the quality of different pastries. The creations at this bakery are quite amazing they always rotate sweet and savoury quotants as well as have amazing brioche.And did I mention the bread amazing freshly baked bread I enjoy the sprouted wheat.

Today was my first time visiting this establishment. The smell alone was worth it!! Very nice staff! I ordered enough treats for an army although they were all for me. Ate one of the cookies on my way back to work and it was fabulous!!

I have traveled all over the U.S. and Europe. At least for the U.S., they easily hands down have the best croissants. The flakiness of all of their savory and sweet croissants is phenomenal and the added ingredients such as the chocolate they use for the chocolate croissant is just delicious. So amazing that these amazing bakers found this small corner of the country to bless us with their wonderful goods.

It’s becoming absurd how many good bakery/coffee shops Auburn has, and this is my new favorite.Breakfast, lunch, or pastries? How about all?Sandwiches made on their own baked breads, and delicious cookies and pastries.If you’re into the hipster-classic avocado toast, then their Meyer Lemon Rosemary bread takes it to the next level!

Picked up your Polenta Bread in new Holiday Market. Its my new favorite!! Delicious, a darker bake (I pick out the darkest one), which I love, a crusty crusty shell. WONDERFUL!! The red plum almond muffin was terrific. Ham with Manchego cheese sandwich was very tasteful and delicious. Will definitely go back and try all the other specialty bread ....

This place has amazing baked goods. Havent had a chance to try one yet but the cakes on display look incredible. I SO badly want to give it 5 stars but I cant because every time I go in there I leave feeling like I wasnt really welcome there. Its kind of an indifference type feel and I dont understand where its coming from.

Friendly smiling faces welcomed us as we walked in. The aroma of freshly baked goods fills the air. I chose 6 different pastries to take home. All were a hit! (I suggest heating up the Potato Bomb before eating it... Its tastier that way) Their bread is awesome. Today we both tried their Hipster Toast and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Awesome little town bakery. You can see everything being made fresh and the taste is great. The staff is also very helpful and easy going. Really enjoyed my visit here. Has that community small business feel, make sure to support your small businesses!

A real bakery! Well worth the drive from Jackson, CA. Their pastries are unique and delicious.

Rye bread we bought is overfilled with caraway seeds, we couldnt eat it so many seeds with very strong flavor, they kill taste of bread. Please do something with receipe! $6 waisted

Great pastries and coffee

The Baker and the Cakemaker has proven to be a staple in our Auburn, Ca. They have bread and the way to full size cakes that can be special ordered. Open early to 4pm most days. If you havent been inside, I welcome you to take a look and enjoy a treat at one of the tables outside.

Amazing pastries, bread, and coffee. Unbelievably vegan carrot, pecan muffin is my go-to. Bread loafs are great to get sliced and taken home for sandwiches. An Auburn must-visit!

I absolutely love this place! To start, the coffee is very good, service is excellent, and staff are super helpful and friendly. Although I dont generally eat sweets often, I have tried the cookies and chocolate scone and theyre fabulous. Im in love with the breakfast salads, and hear theyre now making a vegetarian sandwich, which I can hardly wait to try!

My wife and kids came here to grab something to eat with our coffee(which they serve coffee here). After seeing the spread we had to try a little of everything:Scones,muffins,danishes, cookies, breakfast sandwich. It was excellent! Great place for breakfast or a snack. Great for kids. Well be coming back soon.

Live in Auburn and this is a regular stop for me. Their fresh croissants are the BEST!! and salads, sandwiches are delicious. Always difficult to choose because everything is soo good! Try the Hibiscus cooler, refreshing and not too sweet.

I have been here twice now and I have to say both were amazing. I had the Potato Bomb I think it was called and it was fantastic. Today I had the Hipster Toast and it is a game changer. This is my new treat to myself every Saturday morning. Well done Baker and Cakemaker.
