I am over 70 years old now, but I can take a hint. For two days I called Metals4u attempting to place an order, three of the calls I made were sent to perpetual hold, no one ever came back on the line. The second day the fourth attempt, Cathy answered and actually took my order and a couple days later she sent me an email telling me it is ready to pick up. I fought traffic for over an hour and a half and then fought tho horrible parking lot, only to be told that, as I was not hiding behind some mask, that I wasn’t welcome. I sent an email canceling the order and requesting that my credit card be credited.In the future I will arrange to obtain the material I need from another source. I called Metals2go, and have an order in with them.

Metals4u is a well-stocked facility with good prices and a respectful, helpful, and hard-working staff. I have been thoroughly impressed with their operation since the first time I pulled through their gates. I would definitely recommend Metals4u to anyone in the Austin metro area with steel material needs.

They had racks of smaller sheet steel at their old location which is handy for people like me who just need pieces for small fabrication projects. Pretty lame that they got rid of it at the new location.

While the office staff seemed to be on the ball, the pickup was a fiasco. I was treated poorly. I will not be going back. There are other places to buy metal.

I stopped into this place to see if I could get two pieces of scrap metal that were around 4x6 and 1/4-1/2 inch in thicknessI tried Lowes, Home Depot, and another metal fab shop with no luck.Dominic the branch manager greeted me right when I walked in and I explained what I needed.We then walked around the shop floor area looking for like five minutes and we finally found two pieces that were perfect. The kicker he gave them to me for free.A++++ customer service.

Called them to place a custom cut order of aluminum plate. They were very helpful. I asked to pick up the order in a week because I dont live in Austin but was planning to be there in a weeks time for a meeting. I went to pick up my order after my meeting and they had it all ready to go with no problem, and the order was filled exactly as I had asked. I am extremely pleased with the selection and service. I highly recommend them. My only complaint is that I think the web links take you to their Dallas site, not their Austin site. The selections at the two sites are different, as you might imagine. But on the phone they knew that they had exactly what I wanted and quoted me a good price to cut it up for me. And like I said, when I picked it up it was exactly what I ordered. Very highly recommended.

Sad you guys are closed. Hope in the long run you can maintain your business as usual because it is nothing short of phenomenal! Can I order for curb-side pick-up please????

I have worked with Dominic very frequently (sometimes daily) over the last 3 years. He has always provided me with very prompt and accurate service. Guys in the warehouse are quick to find what I need. Plan to keep using them for a long time.

Came looking for materials to build a double gate, these guys made the selection of items very easy, fifteen minutes later, I walked out the door with a purchase receipt on my hand, very pleased with their service!.

Dominic has been helping me for years. I can communicate directly with him via email or by telephone, and get a fast response on quotes and orders. Most everything I order is customized, and they can always meet our needs.

I was in and out in less than 15 minutes buying 2 inch square 1/8 steel tube to build a trailer with. Cheapest price around and loaded the (8) 12ft sections for me. Awesome service.

EDT : They corrected it, got me the correct length and it didnt cost me anything extra other than driving over there again. The mistake shouldnt of happened, but it was handled appropriately and I appreciate that.Upped my rating from 2 to 4 starsWent in to get 48 of steel round tube assuming they sold it by the foot. Found out they will cut it any length I want which is great so I told them 45 will be perfect. They told me the price, gave me the receipt and then I went outside to get my piece cut. Everything seemed fine until later on in the day when I went to start my project and realized their mistake. My piece was too short and I didnt understand why since I knew 45 would be plenty. I measured the piece they cut me and turns out it was only 40...5 shorter than what I asked for. I thought okay, they cut it wrong. Checked my receipt and turns out they cut it correctly. The person at the desk screwed up and only charged me for 3 4 which is 40. I dont know how they messed that up after telling me yes we can cut any length so we can cut it 45 for you. Now granted, I admit I should of double checked my receipt before I had them cut the piece, but I didnt even think about that because I assumed they were competent enough to put 45 on there after literally just telling me they can cut it 45. Makes no sense how they screwed that up, but now I have to go back and try and get it exchanged for the proper length I originally asked for. I might change my rating higher if they can get this resolved without any further mistakes

Good price and friendly service

Ive been buying small quantities of tubing and pipe here to make into spacers for my hydraulic press which I use for automotive work. You need a 4 inch piece of tubing? They are happy to cut it and sell it to you. Sometimes you have to wait and I understand that. A large order worth thousands is going to come first before my piddly order of less than 10 bucks.

November 2014. They have a lot of stock and are helpful, but if i buy 1 $50 piece of 3 inch diameter mild steel rod, they want to charge me $5 for a cut. Takes less than 5 minutes on their band saw. Im not asking them to do my work. However, they have more inventory/sizes than local competitors and are better priced, so overall I will keep going back !

These guys always know their stuff. I have had more than one successful invention/project go well because I could get my hands on material, cut to specification quickly.They were considerably less expensive than other metal wholesalers in the area and can turn custom orders very quickly.I have done medium sized $300 orders and small $20 orders and they always help in any way they can.

Good selection and friendly staff. Saturday morning can get busy. You might have to wait if you walk in to order, but that is because staff will take the time to get your order right and not try and rush through you. On material they didnt have at time of purchase, they gave me an ETA and texted me when it came in. My place for metal.

We at TXPRO 4x4 have used Metals 4 U, Inc. for a long time now. They are always professional and will do whatever they can to help you. We call in orders and they always have it ready. We highly reccomend Metals 4 U!

The service was incredibly slow. Admittedly I was there on a Saturday and there was only one person at the front desk but I had to wait nearly 20 min to be helped to pay for some scrap & gloves, and pick up a prepaid order. As I was waiting, the customer ahead of me seemed to not have his entire order ready and walked around the whole store gabbing something, asking the sales guy several questions about the item, spend a min or two figuring if he really needed it, walked back to the counter to finish checking out and then repeating the process. This went on for like 20 min. If you have a customer that has two things in their hands, the least you could do is ask if that was all they had and see if you could expedite them rather than literally help a customer hand pick drill bits which is part of what happened. Overall, they will have what you are looking for. The regular weekday guys are fast and friendly. I just felt quote put off by the only guy working the office putting up with a customer who clearly wasnt ready and was causing a bottle neck for other customers.UPDATE: If I could give a negative stars review I would. Today (November 4th 2017) I went in to pick up another order and saw that CATHY was there. In the back of my mind I said; Oh good, shes fast, friendly, and always moves things along. Which is true until today. Today I was lectured for my not so stellar review I previously left and her words exactly were when I explained what had happened Oh, I thought you actually had bad service... and then she continued to defend what had happened previously when CLEARLY there are signs that say that the staff there is not to help you pick out stuff or to offer recommendations which is EXACTLY what had happened last time causing me to wait for nearly 20 min to have the front desk staff help a customer handpick drill bits. (We cant just leave/drop a customer to help someone else, what if that was you. If I was that person who was being handheld through my purchase process and a sales person tactfully said Do you mind if I help this customer who only has two items? I would have realized that I was capitalizing on a very valuable employees time and said sure as I continued my browsing. In fact that has happened numerous times and I myself have done that with customers in a retail setting. In my 10 years of previously working for Apple Retail and after having over 40 hours of training in customer service and managing upset customers, NEVER was I ever told to criticize a customers perspective or say that what they perceived as an injustice was not really poor service. I know Im not a big customer but I know there are lots of other members at TechShop that go there and I will be letting them all know how I was lectured about my previous negative review. Overall the back shop staff are great however I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. People rarely pay for products, they pay for experiences and Metals4U has just given a customer the worst experience ever by saying that although they had an employee break store policy in clearly helping them put their order together, help them hand pick items from the bins in the front, and cause other customers to stand around for nearly 20 min and to say oh I thought you actually received bad service. To me that says they dont care about changing a customers perspective which I had come in today hoping that it would be different. You dont go kicking a hornets nest.... Best thing to have happened was for CATHY to have seen my name and just made a mental note to let it pass, maybe it would have all washed over, but instead she decided it was her duty to lecture a customer... BAD BAD BAD SERVICE and BAD BAD BAD IDEA when that customer has already taken to online sources to share what had happened...

Went in the morning and puchased some material and they were suppos to cut and have it ready in 3 hrs ok .... went back 3 hours later and turns out they didnt have the gauge we wanted so we needed to get a thicker material paid te difference and said to go back in another 3 hrs.... at which point the material was cut and i hand loaded my self with a hispanic guy who was the only good person... at this point the work day was wasted .... the sale person sold us material they didnt have twice yea she was nice but i wont shop again with them sorry.... oh and dont try going there with a gooseneck....

I rate this place 5 full starsBest service in any category I have ever experienced.They have the friendliest staff and they are extremely knowledgeable.I put a wanted ad on CL for a 1.75 od pipe and they answered I looked everywhere locally from off of St Elmo street to the scrap yard on 5th St so I finally put a wanted ad.The place in south Austin was friendly and professional but has a limited stock.Metal4U has a wide range of pipe sizes square Plating you name it they have it. they have hardware all types of plating.Im a DIY er I have many projects that Im working on, right now Im working on a low dollar Bicycle stand and they have everything I need except for the clamp which is no big deal because thats a specialty item. Im using a Park clamp from a PRS-3 that I won on eBay.For anyone that knows professional bike stands they are expensive not just the stand but the shipping. A complete PRS-3 is over 550.00 shipped here I can build one thats better for less than half including the clamps. You could make a double clamp and really save money.For my turntable projects I used some of the precut square plating for my TD124 plinth and now its rock solidThey treat everyone the same and thats like you have been a life long customer. I hope this review doesnt raise the prices because I found them extremely fair.Who answers CL ads and gives top notch service who greats you with sir? they do They are extremely busy at times so dont expect them serve you bear and call you norm when you enter they will however great you with respect.Im not a regular customer but they offered to order a lot of custom sizes something I have never been offered at any other iron retailer the rest have said sorry or I couldnt tell you where to get what you need. The place south of ben white couldnt even tell me of any other iron dealers and now I know why thats because once you discover this place you wouldnt go back unless you either cant go up to north Austin or have a special deal.Summary: they are the best period!!!
