First time here, likes the ambiance of this small place. Most of the basic things can be purchase here. Within 15 mins you have already completed going through this place. Staffs are hard working and very friendly and will answer your queries with a smile.
Love this place! I make an appoint to come here every time I’m in Austin! You can find things here that you can’t find anywhere else. From local cuisine and to Japanese groceries just about anything Japanese.
Always friendly and great service. The ready to eat food is awesome and great prices. Love this market!
Large variety of specialty Japanese foods and ingredients! Loved their warm food section, as well as the house made onigiri!
Cool little store and very nice employees. Worth checking out.
An amazing place, a piece of Japan in Austin. I love the selection of products, authenticity, and the vibe.
I was impressed by their selection. Even though the shop itself wasnt too big, you can pretty much find everything you need/ want for cooking at home.
Got the salmon lunch box, matcha and black sesame soft serve, and the miso pork and miso shashito pepper onigiri for later. Ill have to try all the different onigiri!Just a heads up, the soft serve was more icy than creamy, but as someone partially lactose intolerant, I appreciated it.
This place is awesome! So glad Austin has a store dedicated to exclusive Japanese goods! Go check them out!
Awesome little Japanese shop!!!! It reminded me of the little mom and pop stores they have over there. I had one bento box and it was amazing!!!! Definitely made me miss Japan and it’s culture. I just wish they had chu-his they only had beer & sake.
Super safe Covid protocols (masks required / enforced), and cheap delicious lunches. Great for Japanese grocery staples, sake, and fun finds.
Asahi does not disappoint when it comes to the lunch options. Im there at least once a week for onigiri, snacks, and tonkatsu, as well as stocking up on Japanese pantry items/supplies.
Great selection of Japanese foods, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff and clean store.
So many things to try. Really great store. Friendly. Take your own bags
Super cute! Things are kinda expensive, so keep that in mind when visiting. They take really good COVID-19 precautions so I feel safer when shopping here.
This shop is AWESOME; great selection of items and super friendly staff. Their onigiri are the best and my favorite is the Shishito Miso. Sadly I live an hour away but will drop in whenever I get the chance.
Lots of variety from sweet and savory snacks, to ingredients, meals and even beverages! Great place to find gifts for anyone who has a sweet tooth. I love browsing and trying out new snacks. The staff is friendly and happy to assist you if you need answers or recommendations. Wish there was a location closer to where I live so I can frequent it more!
This place has been a real staple during the pandemic. You can grab lunch and get into and out of the store in a few minutes. The selection of japanese products isnt huge but they do amazing job of getting unique items and staples to keep you coming back. My favorite part is the made daily onigiri. The karaage onigiri is a great place to start and an amazing deal for less than $3.
This is my favorite place to visit when Im in town. Fresh japanese produce, tons of kitchen ingredients for japanese cooking, and when Im required to be at work this is my regular lunch stop for the onigiri and bento selections.
Amazing onigiri and ice cream, vast sake and drink section, great selection of cooking ingredients and snacks.
Phenomenal, Fantastic, Outstanding, the Onigiri! & Great snacks! My favorite Onigiri flavors are the umi tuna, and the one with the spicy fish eggs!
Absolutely great little shop with awesome imports from Japan. A fresh onigiri station, which has amazing flavors, any Japanese sweets you could want. 10/10 for sure going back. Great staff everyone is super nice.
Authentic conbini experience. Best place in town.
This is the largest selection of Japanese goods I’ve found in Central Texas so far. Asahi imports sells things other Asian markets don’t sell. Some things are cheaper at Asian grocery stores, but some things are priced better here. I came here specifically for Japanese tea, and was impressed with the selection.
This really took me back to Japan!! I cant wait until they get Chu-hi back in stock!
We love our local Japanese grocery story! Awesome selection of sake and you can’t beat grabbing a freshly made Onigiri!
Wonderful staff, clean store, plenty of ingredients.
Prices can be expensive but it’s imported so I get it. Food tastes homemade and very good
Great place to eat and shop for Japanese goods. Always get excellent service and a community feel when were here.
Great shop that also has fresh Onigiri and Soft Serve!
I love coming here on my lunch for onigiri and other japanese sweets! 11/10 would recommend.
Nice stores for a Saturday afternoon walk through
Looking for cool Japanese food? Try this place out. Friendly service, great selection, and people who are passionate about their products that are friendly too.
Great store for all your Japanese staples. Fresh, high quality Onigiri, friendly staff and I love just poking around trying new things.
Aside from having delicious fresh meals, an abundance of imported ingredients and candy, and the cutest little trinkets- this business did the right thing when they learned one of their staff had COVID. Thank you for keeping our community safe! Not many Austin business care as much about their staff and customers. I would give 10 stars if I could!
My homegirl had me wait in the car for hour maybe longer came back happy.
Clean, well stocked with variety of Japanese items. Small store in a strip mall, reasonable prices. Everyone there is welcoming and ready to be of assistance. All store employees adhere to safe guidelines and ensure that shoppers adhere as well. Feels safe. Like your mom or Grandmother is there watching over you. Thank you Asahi.
This is a terrific place in Austin. Out of the beaten path. Thrives with business even in these hard times. They have a superb setup for safety during covid times. Only a few persons at the time let in by an employee at the door. They food is exceptional. Not just the thousands of imported Japanese goodies. But also the in-house made bento boxes and onigiri
They are taking COVID-19 precautions very seriously, allowing only a certain number of people in the store at a time and offering sanitizer when you enter. They also offered bottled water to those standing and waiting, so thoughtful. Staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful and enjoyed talking about the products. It was our first time there - what a delightful experience.
Amazing selection and delicious Onigiri! And very nice staff to help you find anything in the store.
My little sister talked about this place and we finally went together and let me tell you, its so cute. I love the workers, the environment, and the layout of the store. You gotta get there early, first come first serve but its worth it. The sweets are my favorites.
A two dumb up for Asahi Imports the food i like to eat hell yeah.👍👍😋😋❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸😂😂🙏🙏
A little piece of Japan in Austin. This place is amazing, the moment you go in you will think you arrived to Japan. Luis, who speaks fluent Japanese English and Spanish, helped me and my husband get all the ingredients for a traditional ramen!!!
High quality, authentic Japanese items here. Great selection of sake and Japanese delicacies. They even have fresh burdock root! Staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. Will definitely be frequenting Asahi Imports often!
The onigiri is always fresh. I love popping in for lunch. They make onigiri to order if they happen to be out of a particular flavor. At only $1.95 for most flavors its a bargain. Great assortment of snacks, sake and staples such as rice and furikake. They rotate their candies out so its always exciting to swing by. Also love the kitchen ware/small area of home goods. Even if you live near H-mart, Asahi is worth the drive for different reasons
I got for the sliced ginger - not the red kind but the pale, non dyed kind. Also the rice seaweed wrapped snacks r great
Great tiny market with a wide variety of snacks and beer. You gotta get those onigiri
Asahi Imports is such a unique store for Japanese goods. They have a lot of options that I havent seen at other Asian food markets like H Mart. Theres a decent selection, all decently priced. We had great service and all the employees are super nice and helpful. Ill definitely be coming back here to get more goodies!
I really wanted to love Asahi Imports. They have great food, the people were lovely, and everyone was being very Covid safe. But the store is just too small for its own good. Theyve packed it so full of amazing items that its very difficult to navigate around. It also didnt make sense that they had 2 people stocking shelves 30 minutes after opening considering how tight the space is. I know running a business is hard in this moment but it felt like some management fine tuning could go a long way for Asahi. I will gladly go back but probably not for a while.
We love this market so much! They have a wonderful selection of adorable dishware. They also have freshly made onigiri, with clearly labeled gluten free and vegan options, I especially love the umeboshi one! Definitely recommend.
Loved the bento boxes.
Small store, but their selection is great and their rice balls are delectable. Highly recommended if you need Japanese goods.
I love Japanese shops and this 1 has a great selection of products. My sisters and I stop thru on our way back to DFW. DFW has their own Japanese shops, so we wanted to see if they had something else to offer. Some items were priced higher than the shops we normally go to, but I heard Austin doesnt really have any other shops. I found a good deal on instant tonkatsu Ramen 🍜 that was cheaper than what daiso has or that I havent found in DFW.
I 👏 love 👏 their 👏 rice balls! 👏👏For a neighborhood grocery store, they have everything you need! Snacks, produce, very diverse frozen selection. But by far the main appeal is their rice balls counter 🤩
Best Onigiri ever. Perfect for shopping and getting a smack. Staff friendly and attentive.
Quaint store thats always worth the visit. The yummy onigiri is the real star of the store. Make sure you visit and grab one or two onigiri if youre in the neighborhood.
Unique store with some things you wont find anyplace else nearby. Made my first batches of proper sushi rolls with some help from the staff.
Super nice and attentive staff. Wonderful selections. Would have been 5 stars but store was overly crowded and the staff stocking shelves was making it hard to shop
First time visit and gentleman greeted us at the door as they were at 10-person capacity but took us for a tour of the shop once we were allowed in and checked back on us during our visit. Wonderful experience and we will be back soon!
Theyve expanded since I was last here years ago, and I will definitely remember to come back! Their to-go bentos and onigiri are great, exactly like I remembered in Japan, and the selection of Japanese foods, snacks, and drinks is great.
Although its a very small market, it has lots of goodies. Besides food (of course), they also sell some other things like houseware. I personally think they are a little over priced but I understand as a small local shop, its hard to set their prices as low as some other big chains and still be able to survive. One thing I really like, though, is that almost everything you find in the store was really made in Japan.
The store is clean and there is a nice selection. The prices are steep. The mochi were about three times the price I expected them to be. I like the small baked goods and onigiri area that was reasonably priced.
I think I’m obsessed with Onigiri now. I tried the Karaage Mayo and Ebi Tempura and WOW. I can’t wait to go back and get more. I’m scared to try another place because these were soo good and what if they don’t live up to my expectations now. The rest of the shop was also wonderful. A great variety of snacks and very friendly service. 10/10 recommend
Always lovely. Always fun! You can order ahead people. I placed an order for Gluten Free Natto, so go get your yummies!
Lots of tasty treats and delicious bentos. One stop shop for any Japanese ingredients you might need!
Sorry folks. Not only am I Japanese, but having worked in Tokyo, LA, and NY where there are similar Japanese grocery shops, the onigiri rice balls here are quite bad. I understand this is Austin and selection limited, but literally the main ingredients are of the cheapest quality and the recipes (for those that require such) is grade school at best. I get that origiris are like hot dogs and burgers but it’s like getting a slice of pizza at a carnival and knowing that it’s from a frozen box. Can we not use that cheap pulverized salmon? Or the saddest saltiest umeboshi that no one in Japan would actually eat? Sell this in Japan and it would be considered rude.
Small market with good selection of foods and snacks. Great sake selection too. Ongiri are great when available!
Very friendly, such a clean store and delicious food.
Great japanese store off of burnet road. They have a good selection of onigri.
I understood why the uninitiated would give this place 5 stars: it has a diversity of cute Japanese drinks and snacks. That being said, if you think this is what a Japanese market is/should be, youre mistaken. Vegetables rotting in their own liquid and stale breads are kept on the shelf for sale, hot food uses some of the most low quality ingredients you would never see in Japan (or California). I guess Texans who have never seen whats really good dont know theyre being cheated? You can get 10% case discounts on items that are 150-200% the price of others!? Prices are insane and not because the items are premium, and if you want to ask the owner for her direction, shell gladly suggest the most expensive options. If this is the best Austin has to offer, it will be no time before 99 Ranch and Daiso (coming soon!) kick it to the curb.
I’m Japanese, and I can confidently say their rice balls are the best (and not expensive)! Great food, great service!!!!
I love going to ask him it was very clean very respectful and the people there of from people from other countries you find the food that you need there especially when you like Im the most very clean very respectful and no scrim and ation well accepted
Love this place, I drive all the way up from south Austin just for the onigiri’s. A couple of the staff could be a tad nicer and less abrasive. But overall the people here are delightful.
A cornerstone of old Austin, this delightful store continues to innovate with new ways to serve its community. From curbside pick up during the pandemic to their amazing deli section that reminds me of my trips to Japan, this store is part of the soul of the Austin Japanese community and anyone interested in Japanese food.
This place is amazingly real deal! Been coming here for years, groceries, treats and some really cool imports! Love that it gets bigger and bigger each year!
My wife is Japanese and she loves this place. I love my wife so I love this place.
Great and friendly service and very clean place.
Amazing food! you have to order early (online) to get some specific foods. onigiri is fresh and delicious! bento box is perfect portion of food and always on point. staff is super friendly and they have all sorts of japanese foods and goods. we go nearly once a week, highly recommend!
Love this place! People are great, selection is great! I drive from Spicewood to shop here.
Amazing Japanese grocery store! The pricing is a bit steep, but these things are imported overseas, so... They also make their own bentos, onigiri, and I picked up some homemade daifuku! There is a little clearance section in the back as well. And they have some kitchen goods in the front as well as a selection of liquor.
My Dad brought my Grandpa & I here last week for the first time & I was so impressed with everything! The store was super organized & spotless, plus the variety of items that they carried for such a small store blew my mind! They had fresh foods, frozen foods, dry goods, sweets, & alcohol. Everything looked great & I just wanted to buy everything I saw haha They also had a great non-food items section in the front with adorable sake sets & bowls. Lastly, the customer service was stellar! The employees were welcoming & helpful 😊
This Japanese convenient store is the best!!! My inner weeb was so excited when I saw onigiri and other things!!! This store is freaking awesome!!
This place is excellent for snacks and cooking ingredients
Great traditional Japanese. Wonderful prices.
I recently visited this market and I could not shop . there were far too many people inside. Many standing too close together!! I cannot say whether or not the food is good . I left, I am an older man and I cannot risk getting sick.
Asahi is my to go store for anything Japanese. Asahi is not simply a store, but a whole Japanese experience, as soon as you go through the door you are greeted by the friendly staff. I always go to pick up the Onigiri, my favorite one is the Ebi Tempura and also the Bento boxes. Also, you MUST try their Katsu Sando (pork cutlet sandwich) on Saturdays only, but you’ll have to call ahead and reserve one :)
The staff are always nice and helpful, the food is wonderful and we always find something new to try.
