Central Market takes grocery shopping to a whole new level. My first ever visit was on 7-18-21 on a busy Sunday afternoon. Just wow. Amazing produce, gorgeous florals, impressive selections. So many gourmet and ready made foods. Self checkout moved swiftly and efficiently. Loved the outdoor dining area and adjacent park for children. Ample parking. Other retail shopping options neighbor the store. Amazing store. Will definitely return!

I loved this store. It’s beautiful-the produce, the bulk food section, the bakery. The outdoor patio is relaxing and sometimes has live music! I even did some grocery shopping here with friends from out of town. However, now I’m not sure I will return as often. Over a month ago I came in to get some tea from the bulk section. I weighed them in the section and put stickers on my bags. The problem came when I went to the self-checkout register. The register wouldn’t recognize the teas and I needed assistance. The person who came to help me looked at the teas and said the tea couldn’t only be that much. I said that I had weighed them and that’s what they were. Some teas can be pretty light. She took the bags and took a long time asking around to find the code for each item. I told her I could go wait in the normal register line. She said something to the effect of, “ No, they’ll just scan the bag and won’t reweigh them. I’ll do it.” The insistence made me really uncomfortable (Is she accusing me?) She reweighed each of them, and to my horror, they were much heavier (sometimes twice as heavy)! I felt so, so embarrassed. She didn’t overtly rub it in, though she did seem smug after each bag. I think there’s a weight calibration issue with either the self checkout scale or the scale I used in the bulk food section. I want to feel happy that Central Market didn’t get underpaid, but the humiliation I felt still hangs around whenever I drive past. Until this feeling fades, I’ll don’t think I’ll visit and I’ll buy my teas online (they’re less expensive, too).

3 stars due to staff errors today. We bought store made steak kabobs at 12.99 a lbs, spending 28 dollars. They are tender, marinated and packed full of meat. One problem, the person who made it didnt remove the sticker from the bell pepper. (Pictures included)I really would like to ask them if they enjoy bbqed stickers on their kabobs. Second, at checkout I requested the total to be split between 2 cards, Lori A told me to put my card first, I did and she totally disregards our request charging the full bill to that card, and instead of trying to fix it she just says sorry. 🙄 barely 3 stars from me and my husband.

The Central Market on North Lamar in Austin is a beautiful store. If you are like most shoppers you are first greeted with fresh produce nested on towers of shaved ice. After you wind your way through an unmatched selection of colorful fruits and vegetables you will arrive in the meat department. Then the regular grocery area and wine. Followed by the bakery and deli areas. If you run across one of the Central Markets, stop for shopping experience you wont forget.

If you love HEB youll lose YOUR MIND at Central Market! Loads of local and independent foods, every kind of apple (& other fruit/veg) variety you could hope for, amazing bulk olive variety, fab bakery, just EVERYTHING is off the charts! You can even still find Oreos on the bottom shelf but get ready to be adventurous in every area of the store. Decor is very farmers market style and the employees are wonderful. There is also a picnic area outside so you can eat all of the pre-prepared foods that you wont be able to say no to. Bring your out of town friends to see it too, its well worth the visit & once youre done theyll finally understand why you rave about HEB so much! ❤️❤️❤️

This is a review specifically for families at the cafe. Its not as kid-friendly as advertised; I will avoid it in the future. People always suggest we meet there because theres parking and a playground. Both of those are great, but after meeting up 3 times here, theres too many problems. It can be hard to get a table, especially for groups. It takes an eternity to get everyone sitting down at the table. You have to go through two different lines to get cafe beverages and food (if someone wants something more than just fountain drinks or drip coffee), then back and forth to get your food when its ready, get drinks and gather all the necessities. Constant ups and downs from everyone at the table and long waits means it takes forever to get everyone gathered, and by then, the youngest have lost patience. Of course as soon as we had our drinks in hand, an employee decides that is the perfect moment to have us all get up to sweep the ground under the table. The playground is unfenced, so if your child is a runner, youll be chasing them everywhere. Chaotic environment - carts and dogs strung out on leashes. Great for older kids or small groups.

Usually love this store, however yesterday afternoon while I was waiting for my items to be rung up - a manager yelled at the cashier to my right. It seemed like a simple mistake and that the manager didn’t quite understand the situation, however she decided to yell anyway. I thought it was very unprofessional for her to yell at her employee in front of customers like that. I hope the situation was resolved however that interaction just left a bad taste in my mouth. I would like to hope that Central Market isn’t the kind of place that fosters a toxic work environment like this. I did not catch the employees’ names, but the manager was a young tall woman with brown hair. Hopefully this behavior changes.

Consistently have to deal with rude staff when I shop here. I’ve been coming here weekly for 4 years now and I can’t think of even one experience with staff I would describe as pleasant. A lady working there literally wedged herself between me and the display case without a word so she could front all the product for some reason and looked at me like I was some sort of annoying obstacle. Pretty much sums up the general attitude from most of the people working there. Looking forward to moving out of the neighborhood and away from this store.

I’ve shopped at Natural Grocers, HEB, Whole Foods, and Sprouts, and this is my go-to store.I’ve never had problems with inventory availability. I think the prices can be marked up quite a bit, such as the Keto Bone Broth Protein which I’ve found at Marshall’s for $25 and was roughly $60 at Central, so you just gotta pick and choose the options and understand the market rate. The produce selection is vast and fresh, they have varieties of grass-fed beef and bison, as well as wagyu which is nice. They have unique brands if you’re looking to spend a little extra and try something new or different. Especially in the alternative foods section. I love their bread and pastry selection. My first and only problem I’ve encountered with the produce so far was with this Cara Cara Orange. Considering how much Ive shopped there, not really a big deal.Staff always seems happy to help, initiating the engagement rather than waiting for customers to ask.

I normally quite love going to central market for a delightful selection of upscale ingredients. However, I have now twice been very disappointed in the cakes I have bought from the bakery. I was really looking forward to enjoying a Black Forest cake, but it was, to put it frankly, gross. The sponge had no semblance of moisture. The cherries were completely inedible. They had been so soaked in the kirsch that I coughed when I ate one. Kirsch is not the kind of liquor that I want to be taking shots of while enjoying a cake. The only redeemable part of the cake was the whipped cream frosting, which was not too sweet and overall quite lovely. But the cherries have given me a terrible stomachache. Overall, it was a 1/5 eating experience, but I am giving 3/5 because the rest of the store really is worth every penny.

I havent read the about us synopsis from H.E.B. about Central Market, and if one is available, perhaps I should. The first thing that comes to mind is it being placed as a more premium shopping experience than your basic H.E.B. or H.E.B. Plus. For me personally, when I think of premium shopping I think more variety as well as better products. Overall, I think Central Market is over priced without cause. I also find it curious that a premium shopping experience offers such a small selection of coffee and wine. It is possible that I may stop in if I am in the neighborhood but I will no longer trek from Anderson Mill to shop here.

Central Market is a feast for the eyes as well as for the table. CM has the most expansive selection of fruits and veggies Ive seen in Austin and at a better price than Whole Foods...much better. They carry very select items like high end olive oil and balsamic vinegars but also have everyday cereals and chips at prices you can easily afford. Great meat and seafood dept, outstanding wine and beer offerings from simply priced to very expensive. A bulk section that has at least 6 different types of rice, over 50 coffee varieties, Spices, nuts, dried fruits, candy/chocolate. A decently sized supplement section with nice people to help you and omg the cheese shoppe is superior...so many delicious cheeses to chooses from it is really hard to decide most of the time. An in house bakery with all kinds of breads, pastries and desserts; fresh muffins and the like daily. A great deli with quality meats and cheeses to make the best sandwiches; oh and some fantastic prosciutto and other anti-pasta offerings as well as smoked salmons for your bagels and shmear. And if you just want to pick something up to eat at home there is an amazing prepared food section with entrees and sides galore as well as soups and a salad bar. And if that isnt enough, then you can go over to the cafe, order something off the menu and eat your dinner inside or out while musicians play for your enjoyment on Thursday evenings and movie nights go on during the summer. Lots of really nice employees around to help you if you need it. My favorite place to shop for groceries hands down.

Easily one of my favorite spots in Austin. Yeah...a grocery store. But here me out — their location is so convenient and serves several dense neighborhoods. The park behind it served me well as my primary running location for most of lockdown and has picnic tables and a playground open for public use. The stage setup behind the store is an excellent venue that offers live music throughout the year. The intimate and low-key space incubated the group of folks I now call my best friends.Beyond the place itself, this store stands out among others with the ability to take only what you need of a lot of fresh produce. No longer will your mushrooms, chili peppers, or grape tomatoes go bad! It also offers a wide variety of Texas-sourced products, and the bakery is next level. Catering from this place will be a hit at any event. It is also very affordable, with prices much lower than Whole Foods and Trader Joes while having more sustainable packaging than either (esp. TJ). Only downside is that there are some items that are pricer than comparable items in HEB. However, being able to buy some easily perishable foods in smaller quantities may offset that cost.

I have been coming here for months but our most recent experiences have started to become negative. My husband called to place a special order and the woman at the meat market kept calling him “honey” through the phone after every sentence and of course he asked her to stop but she got visibly upset and started being rude and raised her voice afterwards. What upset me the most was that she was just so rude afterwards and tried to hang up on him multiple times and did not let him finish what he was saying or place the order because of that incident. (And FYI it is not a “Texas thing” because we are both native to Austin and we don’t go around calling other people honey- especially other people’s spouses.) And this is not the first time they have been rude at the meat market, during one of the first times we called to place a special order another man was also really rude and unwilling to help until we asked to speak to someone else.A couple of weeks before that, the curbside people did not put my special order along with the rest of my items- even though the guy who brought our food out said “we were able to get you all of your meat”. Once I realized I was missing about $100 in our special-ordered meat, I called them and was transferred around and finally the meat market said they had our order there and the curbside people had said they did not need it anymore (not sure why?!). We had to go back to the store and wait 15 minutes in line at the meat market and come to find out that they had already sold part of our special order because the curbside people said we didn’t want it anymore, yet we never once said that. And the time before that, we had a substitution in our order. I asked the girl who brought my items out if I can SEE the substitution since I only got a text message saying my item was replaced but it did not have a picture or full description. I asked her THREE times to see the item and she just cut me off and said “yeah I’ll look into it” and placed our items in the trunk and then she just walked off and said “have a nice day” before I could ask her for a FOURTH time to let me see the substitution. 🤦🏻‍♀️The only reason we keep coming back is because of the ability to special order certain meat. But if they are going to keep messing up and/or being rude, we probably won’t come back to this location anymore. This is not the only grocery store in the Austin area.(Update- the rude meat market woman never placed our special order. We then called to place a new order the following day and was promised it would be delivered the following day... The next day we show up to our curbside reservation, and we are informed that they did not have my order.. Again.. So, we then talked to the meat market for the third time and asked to speak with the manager Ben. He apologized for the incident and called the warehouse and made sure it would be available the following day for us to pick up. It was just really unfortunate because by that time the order was already late. We had called days in advance and special ordered some things for my mom’s birthday, and unfortunately Central Market did not come through. But we do appreciate that Ben made sure he took care of our issue and was able to get our meat in, even if it was a couple days late.)

Love the diversity Central market offers !I could spend several hours just browsing each section of the store, from meats to flowers and fresh fruits and veggies it’s great and offers new interesting items !The outdoor patio area is a plus for a snack and drink .... and pet friendly !Music in the Summertime with outdoor musicians on stage makes this a fun family center!

Most employees are super nice but the curbside cart people tend to block isles and dont care if they are blocking the way. Bag your own groceries, they put my refrigerated probiotics with a hot rotisserie chicken! 👎🚫
