Chris did a great job rewiring my Telecaster! He also put in some new pots and now this bad boy plays better than brand new. Very excited to have finally found a good guitar tech. Timely, and affordable as well. I highly recommend ATX Guitar Repair!
Chris did an excellent job setting up my Martin 000-15. He was fast, super friendly and clearly loves what he does. Its really refreshing to deal with someone as knowledgeable and nice as Chris. Ill be back for sure!
I was having issues with one of the pickups in my bass and needed it fixed FAST. Although I got in touch with him pretty last minute, Chris invited me to bring it over and got me all squared away on the same evening I called him. He made a few other tweaks here and there, and I ended up leaving with my bass sounding and playing so much better than when I brought it in.Chris is honest with his pricing, skilled at his craft, and has a great personality to boot. I recommend him to my friends and know I can count on him even in a pinch. I will be going back to him if I ever need work done on any of my instruments.
Bought a 2006 Taylor 814CE in excellent condition 2 days ago. Brought to another shop to have it checked out and got the green light, so I bought it. Put some new elixirs on it and played the heck out of it for 4 hours and put it back in the case. Yesterday I pulled it out of the case and there was a 5 crack in the back.... To say I was bummed would be an understatement. In a frenzy to get this crack fixed before it spreads, I called around until I got a hold of Chris who told me to take a picture of it and send it to him. A few minutes later and after the flashlight test he lets me know that its just a finish crack and that its no big deal. Thanks Chris for taking the time to teach me something new and save me the headache. You Rock!FYI, I am guessing the previous owner who is a novice and let it sit in the case, didnt use a humidifier and when I changed the strings to a heavier guage and played it hard, thats what caused the finish to crack...If you have an acoustic and you want it to last, spend a few bucks on a humidifier~!!
I brought in a Santana Paul Reed Smith guitar that was having some pickup issues, and an acoustic Seagull that had long past its date for a tune up. I went in for these repairs and he really went the extra mile for me. He cleaned both of them up real nice, found other issues that he went ahead and fixed without an extra charge, and by the time I got them back (which was early the very next day,) I felt like I had two brand new instruments. I went to band practice and couldnt stop smiling. My PRS sounded like heaven and was perfectly balanced in tone. What most impressed me though, was how obvious it was that he really cares about what he does, he wants things right, and he most importantly wants it to sound right for you as the musician... Let me explain. He took the initiative to find my music page, listened to my music, and made the proper adjustments for my playing style, and my personal sound. WOW!! I couldnt believe it. As long as he is around, I will not go anywhere else for my repairs, I cant wait to tell all my musician friends where to get theirs tuned up or repaired. Thanks, my instruments sound like a dream. ^_^
Chris is awesome! I called him to set up an appointment and he said to come on over. I worked on my own setup but wanted feedback and to have it set up professionally if needed. He played it some and said it was a badass setup. He added a small amount of relief in my neck, fixed some soldering and gave me some other advice on fixing volume pots. Customer service is the best ever!
Atx Guitar Repair has met all my needs as a working musician!!! Chris is extremely friendly, humble, knowledgeable, fast, and efficient. Hes fixed/set-up several of my guitars (Electric and Acoustic). I am very impressed with the work Chris has done as it is hard to find a Guitar Tech that really has a passion for what he/she is doing. The location of his shop is easy to find which makes it convenient in case of a gear emergency. Stop guessing whats wrong with your gear! Take it to ATX Guitar Repair and Chris will know exactly what steps to take in ensuring that your Guitars are up to its best potential! Cheers!
I must say Chris was the bomb. Professional, timely, and very good at what he does. I rarely write reviews. Maybe 1 every few years. But I was compelled to do so after today. As long as I live in Austin. I will only go here for all my guitar maintenance needs.
He really knows what he is doing. He works quickly but does great work, and I only go to him for repairs because I know I can count on him. He is also very professional and goes the extra mile with a smile! ^_^ Very pleased with my instruments and service.
I recently purchased a Gibson SJ-200 as my forever guitar. Having only ever owned low-end acoustics I was shocked at how sensitive it was to the elements. The factory setup from Gibson was subpar leaving me with high action and intonation issues. After attempting to adjust the nut and the saddle I managed to get it to an acceptable level but it still wasnt playing like a $4,000 guitar and lacked depth.I took to the web to seek out some credible luthiers in the Austin area where I stumbled across ATX Guitar Repair. Chris got back to me and scheduled my appointment within 24 hours. When I took my guitar in he was extremely professional and immediately helped put my mind at ease as he answered all of my questions regarding my attempt to do my own setup. He was able to point out a few things he noticed immediately that would help the guitar play much better.Again, within 24 hours Chris called to let me know that he had already completed the work and that my guitar was ready to be picked up (I expected about a weeks wait). As soon as I strummed the first chord I heard that Gibson growl in perfect balance and intonation. This was by far the best $50 I have ever spent. In addition to making my new guitar sing, Chris was friendly, professional and shared a great deal of knowledge with me around setups, maintenance and audio recording. There is a reason he continues to get these 5 Star reviews and he deserves every one!
Chris knows his stuff!Brought two guitars in to get set up. He had them ready the next day and did a great job at a great price! Will be going back.
Chris is top notch. Very professional and really knows his craft. Very reasonably priced too!
Chris did a great setup at a great price on my Ibanez RG. I will definitely bring my future business back. My guitar plays great and setup is perfect. Thanks, Chris!
Awesome service, definitely returning for all my guitar maintenance needs. Highly recommend!
High quality work at more than fair prices! I wouldnt consider taking my guitar to any other repair shop in Austin!
I bought a new acoustic guitar online recently. When it arrived it was totally NOT playable. The strings were flat on the neck, frets were sharp in places, as well as few other problems. While this guitar was not a top of the line instrument, I had expected more. But I digress. After reading of similar experience online from others who had purchased this same guitar, several mentioned that they had taken their guitars to a luthier who was able to fix the issues . Most reported that the guitar in question now played better than others costing much more. So I set about looking for someone to do the same for mine. Austin being Austin there are several people here who do this type of work, I found thru a Google search. I happened upon ATX Guitar Repair during that search. I called around a bit and discovered that prices are sorta all over the map. Then I spoke with Chris at ATX. In addition to a fair price, his shop was also relatively close to my house. I was told one week on the repair. One week later I picked up my guitar and have been astounded at how well it plays. It has been about a month now since I picked it up from Chris and I can attest to the fact that I have owned much more expensive instruments that did not play nearly as well. The neck is spot on and the fret board is smooth as silk to the touch. He even fixed an issue that had nothing to do with my initial complaint with no extra charge. So final analysis, no matter what kind of guitar you are having problems with take it to Chris at ATX. You will be glad that you did. Thanks Chris!!!
Chris at ATX Guitar Repair has set up two of my guitars and done an excellent job. I did not think my Taylor 414ce-LTD could have sounded better until he tweaked it just perfectly and now I never hit a flat note. As soon as I got my Gretsch Firebird ATX Guitar Repair was my first stop. Chris knows his stuff, he is the ultimate guitar guru. I would highly recommend Chris @ ATX Guitar Repair and trust him with all of my future guitar repairs and upgrades. He is fast, friendly and always fair.
Very professional work done on my guitar (broken headstock), cant even tell it was broken while playing it now. Perfect set up, all done in a timely manner also, definitely returning.
After being disappointed time and again for a variety of reasons with other guitar shops-large and small- in the Austin area, I decided to search Yelp for Austin Luthiers. After narrowing down my options, I chose ATX Guitar Repair, and boy, am I glad I did. Instead of dropping off my Epiphone Les Paul to one of the other well-known local stores, only to pick it up again in a few days set-up to the shops liking rather than my own, Chris at ATX Guitar Repair was able to provide personal, same-day service and have that guitar playing like new in no time, all while I waited in the shop with him while he worked. (The shop is actually set up in his house, so it was a comfortable, chill, environment-kind of like having one of your buddies work on your guitar). He asked me a few questions about how I played, what kind of music I played, did I bend my notes a lot, etc.,and then went about setting-up my axe exclusively for me. It was a great experience overall, and the one-on-one customer service he was able to provide was top shelf. Furthermore, he was able to offer advice to me about what was needed to be done on another guitar I brought in with me, and gave it a look-over and a free estimate without any hassle whatsoever. One can tell that he enjoys what he does, and his work and general attitude will keep me coming back for any issue I have with any of my guitars, be it something as simple as a set-up, or even more advanced work such as a fret job or a pick-up rewire or replacement. And did I mention that his price for said work was beyond fair for the amount of professionalism, personal attention, and detail that was given to me and my guitar- I couldnt have been happier with the end results. So if you want to get potentially jacked around with service, price, and repair work, go somewhere else. But if you want a more personal guitar shop experience that is second to none, give ATX Guitar Repair a call and let Chris be your guitar tech/ luthier/ adviser.
