The staff at Blackerby are so helpful, especially for first timers like myself. I went ahead and purchased a year rental with 2 months free for my son. Each size exchange has been hassle free. My son was recommended to upgrade his shoulder sponge to better shoulder support. I was able to purchase the shoulder support at the shop. The staff took the time how to adapt the shoulder support to the violin and let my son try to put it off and on. I totally recommend Blackerby for your rental. If my son continues to practice the violin, and wants to stick with it, then I will definitely buy him one from this shop, when he is older.

They helped get my daughter set up with a violin for the first time with a rental. The woman who helped us was very friendly.

Went here to get my dads violin bow restrung but unfortunately their repair man wasn’t going to be available until later into January. Luckily the service was still outstanding and they helped me pick out a new bow (which my dad loved) even tho I have no knowledge of the instrument. They were very informative and easy to talk to. 10/10 would recommend this place :)

Was visiting Austin for the weekend and dropped in. They had a nice collection of violins from $500 to more than $10k. Very knowledgeable and welcoming. Tried about 6 violins and ended up buying a new bow. Ill definitely be back next time I visit.

The people here are not terribly friendly but they habe beautiful Violins. They have brand new as well as used ones. There is also a back room that is set up for performances for groups. Im not sure if they charge a fee or not. Easy to find store.

Top notch! I purchased a new/used double bass from a consignment shop, walked it in there on a Saturday, and the luthier checked it out on the spot, top-to-bottom, made a couple minor tweaks, charged me something silly like $20, and I was good-to-go. I was expecting to leave it there for days (weeks) and be charged many times that amount... They truly are there for the music and education of the art -- not to make a buck.

I went in for what I thought was a violin bow to be restrung and found out that I had a disposable bow from the 80s. The staff gave me options of a new bow and helped me decide on a wooden bow which in the long run would be cheaper and could be restrung. I thought the staff to being very helpful, informative and not pushy sales people at all. I will definitely go back for my violin needs. I am just an ameture player but definitly recommend this place.
