We did the You Do Bourbon Tour and it was so much fun to learn about the difference in proofing, single barrel, small batch, etc. Bill was a great educator, very honest and up front. Really enjoyed our time with him. The best part was the option to get to take a bottle of something that cant be found on the shelves (although thats becoming more of a problem in the bourbon world!). Keep doing amazing work!
We had a lot of fun here, dont get me wrong, but the tour isnt like any others. You dont get to go through the facility or distillation areas. Its just a video and self walk through history area with a tasting. The grounds are beautiful and the history is amazing.... so was the Old Fashioned that we ordered from the bar and enjoyed in the lounge.
The new bar area upstairs is a nice addition. The gift shop is nice and has a good selection of shirts, mugs and glassware. No limited bottles on today’s visit. Our last visit was during a release and there was a thirty person long line so arrive early if that’s your goal. The Barrel pick experience is lack luster in comparison to other distilleries in the area, Four Roses and Makers Mark.
Fantastic gift shop and tasting experience. The gift shop is neatly organized, with a friendly staff and great collection at reasonable prices. They had McKenna bottles (limit 2 per person) which was a great surprise since it’s almost impossible to find those in retail stores ever since it one Bourbon of the year. The tasting experience was fun, got to try 4 Bourbons and our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. She has been working there for a while and knows a lot of history. They are going through major renovations and improvements so am excited to go visit in Spring 2021.
We came here for the Whiskey Connoisseur Tasting, and it was absolutely fantastic! The tasting was either #1 or #2 of the ~25 distillery tastings Ive experienced. The tasting featured a wide range of high-quality products (including some particularly high-end and hard-to-find items) that demonstrated the quality and range of the Heaven Hill line, and our guide Andrew was great. Based on the quality and range of the tasting, its one of the very few that I would be interested in returning to, due to the quality. As Ive been on a lot of tours and tastings, this is high praise, as I dont often want to repeat-visit places or tastings. The only downside of this tasting was that most of the delicious bourbons we tasted were both unavailable in the gift shop or in other liquor stores more broadly. However, I really appreciate being able to taste these products, and I will definitely be back the next time Im in Bardstown!
Do you like heaven hill whiskey? Then you better drive to a liquor store or bar because you won’t find a bottle on the shelf here.Do you enjoy a whiskey tasting? Ignore the business hours posted on Google maps, they close down that part of the distillery long beforehand.Enjoy friendly staff? Me too. These guys should hire some. They call it a bourbon experience. We only experience disappointment.
We had an experience planned for Saturday, September 11th. We received an email less than 24 hours in advance that due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to cancel. I am typically quite understanding, however, unforeseen was a lie. The negotiations with the contract workers had been going on for months, with no solution in sight. Rather than prepare customers earlier in the week that their experience could be canceled, they waited until the very last minute. An option that they do not extend to their customers. This gave us absolutely no time to book an alternative. I truly do not feel that the Heaven Hill brand cares about their customers or their employees. Not only have they sacrificed the enjoyment and experiences of their customers during this time, they have shown how little they care for fair compensation of their employees. Reading that wages at Heaven Hill are of the lowest in the area compared to other distilleries was disheartening. We also heard around town today that they treat their employees horribly. I realize that expensive bourbon is a luxury, however, a fair wage is not. Even still, I genuinely can not wait to receive my pitiful coupon for an experience in the future given how far I live from Kentucky.
Such an impressive facility and beautiful grounds. The tasting experience was wonderful and Herb was a great host. Only ding on the whole thing is they didnt have any good stuff for sale in the gift shop, but we enjoyed the experience all the same.
The “tour” consisted of a short film on barrel construction and tasting. Not a tour of facility. This really wasn’t clear from the description. The person who lead the tasting was very knowledgeable and personable. But I would not consider this a covid safe experience. The tasting room was almost full and not enough distance between participants and of course no masks.Enjoy at your own risk!
I wanted to love this place. It was one of the places I was most excited to go to but left disappointed. So many of the tours make it feel like you are part of something special, this really felt more like a place where business is more important than the Bourbon.
Great time, we’ll worth the trip. Best Old Fashion I never had. The Manhattan was my favorite. I never had one before, but I think it was the best. Gonna be hard to find one that makes me smile more. HMU Jennifer if your ever around Pennsylvania, I’ll make you the best Wisconsin Old Fashion.
Fun little gift shop stop. They offered tours, but we didnt sign up in advance and they were sold out already. Im a big Elijah Craig fan, so it I enjoyed shopping for some labeled accessories for my home bar. One really cool item offered was a gift pack having a 100ml bottle of each label that Heaven Hill produces. The whiskeys produced at Heaven Hill are all reasonably priced, and a lot of it is small batch/single barrel selections which really give it a nice variety without needing 500 different labels.
Place was beautiful, the connoisseur experience was fantastic. However, you cant buy any of the premiums. Folks line up outside for hours before the opening and buy it all (and then resale for huge markup online). HH allows this to happen unlike other distilleries who limit the purchase of a premium product to 1 per X months by using a drivers license. Driving 7 hours to visit and realizing you cant buy what you cant find in PA is not good publicity.
I will boycott Heaven Hill until they negotiate in good faith and give the union workers what they deserve.
I really enjoyed the history of the center. The tour started outside and it was very hot. Then we moved into the rick room where the barrels are stored. It was deliciously cool inside compared to the 90° temp outside. The tour then moved into the welcome centers tasting room. We tasted three bourbons. Larceny and two others. We all had a piece of bourbon chocolate. The tour guide, Holly, was an older lady. It started out slow then picked up. She knew a lot of bourbon history. The center had a lot of merchandise for sale, but was missing crucial sizes. The t-shirts jumped from size small to 3-X with nothing in-between!
Sophisticated bottled in bond producing great flavors.
Got there at 9:30 for an 11:15 Connoisseur Experience. Was told when we got inside that if we wanted to get in line for the allocated bottle, we would forfeit our space in the experience. We would have had plenty of time to stand in line, but instead we followed their instructions to stand at the door and wait for our experience - that started late.... By the time our experience was over, todays bottle was sold out
We did a higher end tasting. Good selection of offerings, but not my favorite. Seemed like prices were a little higher in the gift shop than local liquor stores. The distillery burned down so is no longer there, but there are many rickhouses. They are adding more exhibits and a restaurant opening after we departed. Guide was excellent. Not sure I would stand on the early am line to get the scarcer whiskies, but it is available.
Very nice place! A lot of interesting Bourbon items and more. Nice people. Friendly
I traveled all the way from Colorado to see the heritage center and buy a special bottle and was very disappointed after standing in line for 30 minutes waiting for them to open their doors to see they weren’t going to open for the day (Saturday, Sept 11th). Their voicemail didn’t even say that they were closed for the day when I called. I’m assuming it had something to do with the workers on strike at every corner. I’m just disappointed that they didn’t open or say they were going to be closed since I planned my whole trip around visiting Heaven Hill.
Very nice! You can try any bourbon at the bar, they also have flights. Book yours far in advance as they didnt have any openings for walk-ins.
I’m a big fan of Heaven Hill products in general, and the tasting I attended awesome products such as Old Fitzgerald (awesome stuff). The gift shop is decent and had an unique Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. Wasn’t a fan of the tasting instructor, very structured and made us do some weird tasting techniques that didn’t make sense for me and my friends. Also only let us in the building 5 minutes before tasting, they had a single stall bathroom so there was a line of people who were traveling and using it before the tasting. Staff was irritated when we were late for tasting because my friends and I had to use the restroom, but there’s nothing we can do since we had to wait in line.
We had fun with the Mashbill Tasting. Short and sweet and got to taste some favorites. Beautiful new facility and education center.
After stopping at Willett, this was an ok stop. Not family-friendly. If you are heading thiis direction, Willett is a much better stop!
Great tasting venue. Distilling is not onsite and not part of tour
Nice gift shop with a bunch of fun stuff including some weird chocolate cover Twinkie I had to try. Nice staff. The tasting was informative and as good as any I’ve been on. The tour though is a let down. I’ll say the best rick-house tour I’ve had. But that’s all there really was. Great tour guide. Just wish there was more to it. As such a big player in bourbon there should be more going on. After they get their 17M spent on the restaurant and bar expansion it may be better but only if they add things to the actual tour. I’ll be back in 2020 to check it out!
Bourbon! Bourbon! Bourbon!. The Heritage Center is all about bourbon. Here a few bourbons are showcase and tasted. The grounds of this distillery are phenomenal as the rest of the distilleries in the bourbon trail. When you first enter the center there is a bourbon chair on the right that can easily be missed due to all the bourbon distraction all around you. Then to the left there is a little hallway museum that ends with beautiful barrel racks. To the right of the entrance there is a gift shop and 1 of two tasting rooms. Our group did the tasting only with a small intro of the distillery. Our tasting was full of energy and engaging presentation. We got to taste their finest bourbon with bottle ranging from 50$-250$ and up. Note thats the price at the Distillery, which can be higher In local store around your neighborhoods. The presenter also showed us the differences in taste between neat and adding 4 drops of water. I have to say that the difference was well noted specially among the females in the group. At the end we were greater with the Heritage Center chocolate made with their bourbons. I really enjoyed this tasting as well as the group I was with did as well. The entire experience and tasting was superb and a must if you are in that part of the country. This is a true gem in the middle of nowhere.
Cool place to visit, president walked out and took picture of my daughter an I togather in front of the truck real nice gentleman thank you sir
Beautiful facility. Super nice gift shop. Knowledgeable employees
Cannot be missed! This tasting was so great. Thank you Susan for walking is through the experience and answering all our questions! Thank you Allen the greeter! The gift shop was great, we bought SO many great things! Looking forward to the new part of the center to open later this year! Cheers!
Great distillery, fair selection at gift shop, prices little higher than retail. If you are wanting to get something allocated get there early, be prepared with chair, umbrella, drinks & snacks. But there is no public restroom while waiting so take that into consideration as well.
Book the Whiskey Connoisseur Experience! Heaven Hill is the largest privately owned distillery in the U.S. and sells a wide range of well-known products, such as Evan Williams, Pikesville (Rye), Elijah Craig, Larceny, Henry McKenna, and Rittenhouse.Their Bourbon Heritage Center is going through a major renovation to include a full cocktail and whiskey bar (est. 2021 completion date). Their gift shop has an excellent selection of their products (including limited or gift shop only), very cool souvenirs, and a friendly staff. They offer two options for tours/tasting: Mashbill Tour - full distillery tour and 4 of their (lower-end) products for tasting.Whiskey Connoisseur Experience - History/background of Heaven Hill and a detailed explanation of each of the 4 products for tasting: Bernheim (wheat whiskey), Pikesville (rye whiskey), Elijah Craig - Barrel Proof (only made every 4 months), William Heavenhill ($195+ suggested retail for a bottle). A Glencarin glass is not included in the tasting, but they are available in the gift shop.
Enjoyed shopping and two events. Lots of bourbon fun.
Couple additions going up, new rickhouse for future tours. No tours because of virusTaste for $10Had a few 16 yr old fitz for $230.Have to ask.
Apparently they are on strike and closed the visitors center and tours. I really wanted to stop in while passing through the area.
This was my first trip on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and by far Heaven Hill was the best visit out of every place I was at.The mint julep and bourbon honey ice cream was amazing, but, the real find was the William Heaven Hill 14 year aged bourbon. Limit one bottle per customer and its about $200 but totally worth it.Also theyre open on Sundays unlike many of the other distilleries
The gift shop was amazing while waiting for our tasting. Herb was our tasting guide and he was fantastic. So fun & knowledgeable
Wonderful experience and great tasting experience. Herb was a great story teller and made the experience special.
It was excellent. We loved the new renovations.Only downfall was there was no cover from the weather for us diehard HH fans that wait in line for 4 hours to spend $400+
Very nice but the gift shop should have more of the better bourbon. Dont put all of it out at opening, spread it out some.
First let me say that we absolutely love Heaven Hill products, so much so that we planned our entire weekend in Bardstown around this visit. I have done so much research online about Heaven Hill, its history and how many brands they produce. We booked the Connoisseurs Experience and were set for a great time. We showed up 30 minutes early for the experience and found a line of people waiting out front so we grabbed our spot in line. Well, it turns out that the line of people only contained a few tour members, the rest were locals lined up to scoop up the allocation of limited release bottles for the day. We finally got called in right at 11:30, our tour time, and checked in at the desk. We were escorted into a room, had our 30 minute tasting experience, then released from the room to browse the gift store. None of the whiskeys we tried were available for purchase, all had been scooped up by people who apparently come every day to purchase then re-sell. The gift shop attendant said they do what they can to try to control it but its frustrating (her words not mine). I really hoped that Heaven Hill, being the only family owned distillery left, would take a little more pride in the experience and make it special. I didnt drive three hours to Heaven Hill just to buy a bottle BUT I would have been excited and proud to have one on my shelf that I bought THERE. No tours, not even a peak in a rickhouse, just a tasting in a room and then a crowded gift shop. Come on Heaven Hill team, you can do better! Your product shows how much pride you have, let that translate to your tour experience. Your plans for a restaurant and a roof top bar are cool, but you can go to one of those in any city. Make it an experience that connects the customer with your heritage, your process, your products and your birthplace.
Amazing experience! Our tasting guide was informative and entertaining.
We had an amazing experience here at Heaven Hill!! We came for my husband’s 50th birthday and we’re not disappointed. Our stewardess Becky was amazing!! Thank you so much!!
Such a beautiful setting. So much more than I thought to the craft of bourbon making. Certainly worth the tour.
Our taste guide, Holly, was charming and informative. 5 stars if more select bourbons were available, but the distillery only has a limited supply, and it was gone as soon as the distillery opened.
Lots of goodies didnt tour or taste just shopping
Cool looking building. Probably more trendy and new than functional. Couldnt get a tour. Gift shop was kind of cramped
Beautiful area! Great tasting tour. Great gifts.
Great store and a wonderful tour guide but the experience comes up a bit short as construction is yet to be finished. The rick house is great but the tasting is done in what feels like an employee break area or something. Make this stop if you have time but I wouldnt prioritize it until construction is finished.
This is one of my favorite places. This was my 2nd time here and I will still give it 5 stars even though once again the Barrel Room wasnt open to do the tasting. Everyone was extremely friendly, very knowledgeable, and just made sure that everyone had a great time. On my first visit I even found a bottle that was bottled on my birthday in 2011. Kind of cool!!
Allen was a great guide. We definitely learned a lot about Heaven Hill and about bourbon and whiskey in general.
Wonderful place with great products. Herb was an excellent tasting guide.
Nice place 👌and a lot of history.
My boyfriend and I were very impressed with the staff at the gift shop. We enjoyed an especially nice conversation with Jennifer. We werent able to attend a tasting this trip - we will definitely plan one for our next visit. :)
After being loyal customer for many years, I finally get a chance to visit only to be looked down on because I dont belong to their elite bourbon crowd. I think Ill start looking for another brand.
Very nice. Wish I had more time.
Fun place to check out. The distill for multiple brands, so its a little less personal than going to a smaller, independent distillery, but you get a lot of information on the history of bourbon making in Kentucky. The tour is fun, and Bev, one of the tour guides is great.
Should have more premium bourbon available all day!! The only one available at 3pm were ones you can get anywhere.
Two on right favorites. Good history lecture also.
Absolutley beautiful place, staff is super sweet. Stunning visitors center
Wanna pay above retail for evan williams and mellow corn? Go here
No distillery on site but they went into depth about aging and tasting bourbon. Worth the trip even if it wasnt on the trail.
Disappointed! They were Out of all the good Elijah Craig.
Holly was a fabulous tour guide. This was a great tour to take along the Bourbon trail. As our first stop, it exceeded any expectation!
Its okay, but book ahead if you have other places to go. Cant just do a tasting at will; have to book a time slot to get a brief informative talk with a pour of Elijah Craig bourbon, and Elija Craig rye.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Nice inside. Sounds like they have tours, but needs to be booked in advance with COVID (I think only 8 people in at a time). Couldnt tell if they had tastings afterwards, but they did not offer tastings to the public- only retail.
Fun stop. Friendly, helpful staff. Tastings allow you to try a little same before you purchase.Great stop for Kentuckians or anyone looking to sample a little slice of Kentucky.
Such improvements are impressive its a must see museum
Great new space please make more bourbon
Nice looking and staffed with friendly people. Unfortunately I missed the chance to take a tour.
Pretty cool....but now I got to go to Evan Williams
Gorgeous visitor center & bar...it is a must see!
Tasting was great!
Informative and worth the admission price. Tour and tasting were excellent!
One of our favorite tours. The tasting at the end was informative and our guide was entertaining.
Great facilities and knowledgeable professionals!
Great place to learn about Burbon.
I was very excited to visit Heaven Hill and chose the whiskey connoisseur tour. However my experience there was a little disappointing. I did not know that the center is currently under construction, so the museum portion is closed. In addition there was no actual tour. It was just a guided tasting of some very good bourbon and rye whiskey.
Had a nice experience here, I recommend grabbing a bottle of Old Fitz.
Heritage center was under renovation and inaccessible. No distillery on site. Did the $20 bourbon tasting that was very interesting.
It was awesome and our guide Holly was the best, I would give it 5 stars
Make sure you do the connoisseur tasting it is awesome!! 45 min, lots of history and the instructor is awesome! Herb is hilarious. Bottles you try: William heavenhill 14yr, Elijah Craig barrel proof, McKenna 10yr, pikesville rye. For 20 bucks its a great deal and you receive a small glass as well.
