Fair, honest, good mechanics. My older vehicle needed some repairs, so Norman took the time to talk me through all the options and costs. Once I decided what I wanted to do, they did good work in a reasonable time at a fair price. Highly recommended!

Customer Service par Excelante!Transmission died in Birmingham as I was moving from San Diego to Knoxville. AAA towed my vehicle to Auto & Truck on the rain at 11 PM.I called Norm the next day and he diagnosed my vehicle. He took the time to help me make the right decision about my high mileage Honda.I offered my 270k mile Pilot to him to cover my charge since I was located in Knoxville and didnt know what to do with it. He recommended I trade it in and pocket the money. He seemed to be more interested in my welfare than cashing in on my situation. He never charged me for diagnostics or storage for a week. He even boxed vehicle contents and sent them to me. Again, no charge. I sent him a bit to cover some of his costs and am indebted at his kindness during a stressful time.

I called, and Grace picked up. She said they didnt have the part available and recommended a place that did. Its that kind of help-first attitude that gives me trust in a repair place off of the bat. Looking forward to utilizing their services soon.

ZERO STARS! My advice is to save you hard-earned money, and go elsewhere for quality service, and pricing. I was charged a total of 1784.00 for repairs on my car, and Im still having problems.I didnt have any major work done, and still paid almost 1800. Norman, the owner, says that he guarantees his work, but thats only when he chooses to deal with you. If he has engine jobs to do, you will be placed on the back burner!, and then maybe hell look at your vehicle. He also told me that even if he looks at my car, he will charge me again! Hes more concerned about getting new money, rather than satisfying all of his customers. Ive had to bring my car back a few times because some of the work wasnt done correctly. I recently spoke with him on two occasions, and he flat-out REFUSED to look at my car, was rude, and hung up on me on both calls. Norman needs to learn how to speak to people, and treat others the way he wants to be treated! If it wasnt for the customers, he wouldnt have a business at all! If he spent good money for a service, he would also expect quality, as well as a great overall experience. His wife, and the mechanics were very nice though.I shouldve spent my money elsewhere, and DO NOT RECOMMEND HIS BUSINESS AT ALL!

I took my car to a Goodyear a week earlier because of a noise I was hearing when I turned right. They said a couple clips had come loose from the cover under the car, so they just removed the cover and said it was fine. I left, but kept hearing the noise all week. Today I went to Auto & Truck Service upon the strong recommendation of my colleague, and they discovered the wheel bearing hub had failed. They got the part from the dealer that day and I had my car back the same day. I dont hear the noise anymore!

Dropped off my 1997 Tacoma for service and two days later technician called me to say they couldnt work on it because it had aftermarket parts. Very disappointing that I went without a vehicle for 2 and 1/2 days waiting on their service to only find out that they hadnt even touched my vehicle. I would not recommend this shop. Its full of older vehicles but for some reason they didnt want to work on mine.5/9If aftermarket hubs on a truck prevents it from being worked on by your shop then it should only take looking at the vehicle before the customer leaves it. It was a day and a half before I was called and told that you could not work on my truck. The suspension did not cause any of the issues. The truck is in perfect alignment. It was a motor mount that worn causing the vibration. Wouldve been an easy repair. I guess your shop isnt for me, but Acme Muffler inspected my truck and adjusted the rear brakes and didnt even charge me, I highly recommend them.Just disappointed

These people are CROOKS PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! They were referred by AAA it was after hours when I dropped the vehicle off. I filled out the envelope and placed the key inside, then deposited it in the drop box. On the envelope it asked if I would like a call before the vehicle was serviced. I waited a few hours and called, only to find out my car was ready. Completely baffled, I went over to see what was wrong. I was told my total was $32.00 for a PLUG!!! A PLUG?? $32.00. I spoke with Grace (she was super sweet) and she her self was shocked!! Then Norman got on the phone yelling and lying, not being and honorable businessman about their tainted call before service policy. Stating I didn’t check it, I let him know that was false and that I was recording the call. I let him know that I checked the box and circled it, then he got angry stating that he now can see the check mark. Norman stated to bring the vehicle back so he could take the plug out. A REAL BULLY!! A HORRIBLE BUSINESSMAN!! I will be taking this steps further. It’s the PRINCIPLE!

It pains me to write this because I have done business with Norman for years now, but I remain floored after this latest incident. The muffler on my car was rattling terribly, and I suspected a loose bracket of sorts. I took it to Norman, and he told me that I needed to replace both mufflers, as well as all the piping, which would be $875 before labor. I told him not to do anything with the car, and I got it back from him and put it up on my own ramps to discover that the source of the noise was a loose bolt which was fixed in ten minutes with a fifty cent nut from the local hardware store. I cannot believe that any mechanic would try and scam a customer in this fashion. This makes me think back to when I had him change the transmission fluid in my Lexus two years ago. He neglected to fill it to the proper level, and the transmission would slip and not want to go into gear. I took it back to him, where he denied there was a problem, and then he said that these things happen around 100k miles and you should just let me replace the transmission. A subsequent trip to the dealer informed me that the transmission was a gallon low on fluid. The dealer filled it up and the car has been fine ever since. This is a shame, because him and his wife are really nice people and have done some decent work on other cars of mine. However, this last incident indicates that he either did not even look at the car, or looked at it and then tried to scam me.Tl;dr: do not take your car to this man. He will try and charge you large sums of money for work the car does not need.

I have used Auto and Truck Service for my car and truck for over fifteen years. I even remember the first time I went there, Norman was rebuilding an airplane in there.I stopped by a couple of days ago with a problem with the lights on my trailer. I told Norman I was kind of desperate for time because I needed to go out of town and I didn’t have any lights on the trailer. He came out on the street and began to troubleshoot the problem. Twenty minutes later, I had lights. Professional, knowledgeable, impeccable service. I think they have the best garage in town.

At first I thought they had done an amazing job but then I realized they hadn’t. My car battery died completely, had it towed here and they said it was a wiring issue with an aftermarket alarm. They unhooked the alarm and charged my battery. They told me that I just needed to get a new battery and it would start/run just fine. Bought a new battery and when to replace it to find that the Hood Insulation Retainer Clips were all broken and/or gone entirely, leaving my insulation pad loose and flopping under my hood which caused it to get burn marks and melted in various areas. Once I replaced my battery, the truck wouldn’t start at all. So, obviously, this wasn’t the issue. Having to have it towed once more and get it looked at all over again.

Courteous expert auto mechanical service.I cannot say enough about Norman Rutland. He solved a very technical battery drain issue that two other local auto dealerships could not fix. He went the extra mile to solve my problem and did it in a timely manner. One dealership kept my care one week and finally said we cannot fix your problem. Auto & Truck Services, Inc has the best automobile mechanical knowledge and experience in Birmingham and the surrounding area.

Norman took the time to carefully examine my vehicles, explain what needed to be done, then make sure I understood and was OK with the entire outcome. Theres not a better auto and truck service provider in the entire Birmingham area. These are my Go To folks for all my vehicle needs!

I am a full time working college student who doesn’t have the luxury of time to drive around from shop to shop for an estimates. I recently called to ask for an estimate on a break job/oil change over the phone. First off when the receptionist answered the phone they did not greet me nor did they state the name of the business. However when I greeted him and asked the person over the phone for the estimated their exact reply was “you want me to give you an estimate without looking at your car”. I’m no customer service specialist but one thing I do know is that is no way to conduct business especially toward a potential customer.

Highest quality service with integrityThese days, it’s nerve-racking to choose a mechanic, when you don’t know much about what goes on under your car’s hood. It’s very easy for a repair shop to take advantage.Auto & Truck Services stands out as the exception. Their mechanics are extremely knowledgeable and, just as importantly, scrupulously honest, adhering to high standards set by Norman Rutland and his right-hand, Grace Rutland. This repair shop’s work is excellent, and the team there stands behind all repairs they do. I wouldn’t trust our vehicles to anyone else.

REPAIR BEWARE!! Friendly management but the mechanic working on our vehicle was NOT knowledgeable. He didnt even know how to bleed the power steering lines!! (Which entailes moving the steering wheel side to side) Due to the lack of experience, we were charged DOUBLE for labor because another mechanic had to helped him!! Only offered $50 off (have yet to see it) when we spoke with the owner a few days later. Seek another shop, this shop will definitely drain your wallet and provide poor workmanship. As of 12-21-18..well over a month since we spoke...no check has been received and this is the ONLY review I know of that was given of this matter.

If it were possible to give a lower rating, I would. Norman, the owner, after failing to identify the real problem with my car a month ago, hung up the phone on me twice because he didnt like the fact that I questioned his credibility after charging me $600+ and failing to fix the problem I brought the car to originally. When I went to the shop to have my car towed to a reliable shop, I again asked Norman direct questions about his level of service. Instead of being professional, he chose to call the Birmingham Police. Mind you, I never cursed, raised my voice, or did anything of a threatening nature. Excellent customer service, right?Ive spent in excess of $5,000 over the last year with this business, and Norman doesnt think he has to answer tough questions about his shop and his work. Ill never do business with them again and I hope you do the same.

Worst experience ever at a repair shop. I went there with high hopes. They will run up the bill on you if they have the opportunity. The parts cost was 3 times over wholesale. They charged top dollar and they were late and hard to deal with. They also told me my temperature gauge was broken too, but they had no idea how to fix it and they just couldnt fix it. I said it wasnt broken when I brought it in.Long story short, the gauge not broken, they simply were too lazy to warm the engine up. They accused me of knowing that it was broken to try to get a free repair. I even asked if they had warmed it up properly.I know that this doesnt make sense, but the owner let me know that he thought I was lying. Lying about a broken gauge, that isnt broken, but they told me it was, because... they are lazy mechanics. The owner let me leave unhappy and knowing I felt overcharged and the repair was overdue. Maybe he felt that was okay since he had decided I was a liar, all due to his own mechanics misdiagnosis. He was not the least bit sympathetic or willing to work with me.
