I really wanted to love this shop. After purchasing 3 state bikes and having them put them together, I ended up having to bring them all back for repairs. The last one was for brakes they said it was fine. However my brakes were grinding. I ended up getting a second opinion today at Campus wheelworks and they informed that my brakes are not true and need adjustments. So Im thankful that they now will be properly fixed. I believe that my bike was never actually looked at by handle bars when I brought it back for the repair. Which really sadness me. Ill be sticking with Campus wheelworks from here on out.
A close friend of mine who recently bought an awesome Felt bike referred me to Handlebars Cycle Company after he took his bike in for a quick look by the staff at Handlebars and ended up experiencing service/insights/tips, tricks & more while he was at their shop.Enter Dave, one of their staff members, a bike extraordinaire, fantastically sharp, honest, integrity focused dude who knows his stuff like you wouldnt believe!! This is the gentleman who worked with my buddy / his Felt bike and the service / experience was so good my friend kept telling me to stop in with my newly purchased, used Cannondale bike.So I finally made the short Trek (see what I did there ;-) ha) over to Handlebars late last week to connect with Dave, have him look at my bike, and explain to him my deep desire to get into serious road cycling + triathlon type work, too. Only one issue... I have 0 knowledge of bikes and havent actually rode much over the past 5+ years.Fear not, Dave was able to explain the ins and outs during my 30 minute visit and helped me better understand bike types, accessories, how to take care of my bike, types of gear I will need and EVEN down to having me hop up on the trainer to take a look at the sizing of my new Cannondale and lend some fundamental form tips !! A true, one stop shop for ALL of your cycling needs!Whats even better is that Dave helped me fully understand the progressions of what my new found passion for cycling can look like / evolve into and gave me insights so that I can follow a plan of action as I start to hammer out miles on the bike both on my trainer and the roads/paths.Alas, I ended up grabbing bike shoes / pedals, clips / some other accessories + some light service work that has gotten my Cannondale ready to rock and roll in addition to now having a plan for when I will be looking to make a new purchase on a bike with my pal Dave at Handlebars.I am a customer FOR LIFE !!! You guys rock !!! Big thanks again to Dave & team !!!Cant wait to wear the Handlebars jersey proudly on all of my road cycling and one day soon triathlon adventures!John OsbergPrincipal of The POWER of OZmosis Consulting
I brought my bike in because the chain kept clicking and falling off. As nice as the lady was that I talked too they took at least a month to get it fixed and after I brought it home it felt worse than when I initially brought it in. I cant even put my bike past 5th gear (7 gears total) which sucks because I use my bike for transportation to work on occasion. Overall, I dont feel like they really looked at my bike or checked it properly before giving it back.
I had Handlebars build up a touring bike from a Surly LHT Disc frame they ordered for me and the shop worked with me to get all the parts and build perfect and allowed me to use a fair bit of my own parts. They were very helpful and managed the build to perfection. This was not work but a love of bikes and bike building in action. Not many places would take so much of the time to help guide you through a custom build until it was perfect. The bike is absolutely perfect!
Excellent customer service. Repaired a faulty brake line that came with a bike we purchased online quickly and skillfully. They have a great selection of bikes and equipment. We will definitely stop buying online and make this our first stop from now on.
Best skilled service in town. Decent selection of parts bikes and accessories. Handlebars is my go to place for service and tune ups.
Proscloset has this business as a participating dealer for trade ins. I went to this business today 6/5/20. Went in and was patiently wait g to be seen as both store clerks were busy with other customer. As soon one of the clerks was free I aprovecha the gentlemen and greeted him. I ask him if the work with pros closet and he rudely answer “no never heard of them”. I proceed to tell him that the pros closet have them listed as a participating dealer and he said on a very rude tone “I don’t know where they get that from”. I know the statements he said may not have been rude but it was the tone of voice. Remember is not what you said but how you said it.
Would never recommend this company. I brought them 5 bikes to repair. When my husband picked the bikes up he wasnt given an invoice. I called the store a week later because one of the bikes that they replaced tubes in had 2 flat tires. I asked for them to lookup my invoice for me because I wanted to know what work they had done on that particular bike since it shouldnt have flat tires if they put in new tubes. I was told a manager would have to call me back. I waited a few days and didnt hear back from anyone. I called a 2nd time and they said they would find the invoice and email it to me. Waited another couple days and no email. Called back a 3rd time and was told AGAIN that a manager would call me back but yet again no one did. I called a 4th time and the man who answered the phone was so rude to me. He said they never forget to give out an invoice and that he wouldnt look it up for me! Ok then, they lost all mine and my families business. Unbelievable.
My sincerest thanks to the Handlebars Cycle Company, the gentleman who was assisting me was more than helpful he went out of his way to find me the part I needed ( he actually went into the basement to find the right size seat post). Ive gone to places were the person couldnt be bothered to check the inventory on a computer, this experience put my faith in humanity back where it belongs thank you, I feel terrible that I did not get your name so sorry . A new loyal customer for life I will tell everyone I know.
Excellent experience. I needed a stuck seat post removed and replaced. They worked relentlessly to get to loose and free for the replacement. Was awesome. They are great guys as well. I would recommend absolutely. Im returning for for an additional e-bike assembly this weekend. Fantastic!!
Love this shop! Makes me feel like I’m in a small town biking film every time I go in. They remember who I am and always make me feel welcome. Great community vibe, highly recommend.
My Bike is my main source of transportation so its very important to me, I left my bike with them for repairs for about a month. When I returned to get it they told me the bottom bracket was frozen and they couldnt get it off and I should just get a new bike. They CLEARLY hadnt even looked at the bike as I removed it easily once I got home. Given the amount of time I gave them I expected the repairs to be done or at the very least a PHONE CALL to let me know what was going on. Do yourself a favor and go to Campus wheelworks
Love this place! Very helpful and reasonable prices. Every time Ive been in I have felt good about the experience. Thanks Merle for your help w Bike rack...
Great service and price in comparison to the Big Boys. Had a deluxe tune-up, 2 new tires, 1 replaced spoke, and brake shoes for front/rear of my TREK hybrid ... all at the same price I paid previously at Berts for a simple tune-up !! Support your local businesses. Very pleased.
They were great very professional the best bike store in buffalo and I was referred by another bike shop in the area
Took my bike in for a tune up. They answered all my questions and helped me decide what needed to be done, and gave me an accurate estimate when it would be ready by. When it was ready, they have me a call to let me know. They did a great job with the tune up, too.
I brought my commuter mountain bike for service on the front derailleur. It took weeks for them to do the work (Ill give some grace because the pandemic is happening). They didnt call me when it was done. I had to call them to find out it was ready. I take the bike home to find out that it wont shift! The problem wasnt fixed. They said they would fix it this time. Another seemingly excessive time later, it did shift properly. So I rode the bike to work and discovered that they had replaced my front chainring with a small chainring and now my gearing was way too low. I had to pedal in my highest gear to ride to work. I complained to the owner who said he would make it right at no cost. To his credit, they DID replace it and now things are fine. But the process took THREE trips to the bike shop and over a month+ of my bike out of commission in the shop. Some of the service staff were nice but others seemed grumpy. Honestly, even though theyre my local shop, I will go elsewhere. And I would NEVER buy a high end bike from them not have an expensive bike serviced there. Ever. Ive got a $5000 road bike that will only go to Toms Pro Bike or Berts.
People are very courteous, and take there time when helping you . They wear masks and follow social distancing
Ive been going to Handlebars for years since we live right down the block, but I dont know if they changed owners or what but this clearly isnt the same shop. I dropped one bike off 2 weeks ago and was told that it should be ready in a week tops. I tried calling today and their phone line wasnt working so I went in to check on it, and even though I informed the owner of why I came in person, he pretty rudely said well at least you did one thing right... before walking away. I understand theyre busier than normal but they apparently cant give even remotely reasonable estimates, and then snip at you as if its your fault they bit off more than they could chew. Also they couldnt even find my service ticket at first and clearly hadnt even looked at the bike yet. Then told me to come back tomorrow. Neato. Im just going to go to Campus next time...
I have been going to Handlebar cycle company since it was called Mr. handlebars and I guess it changed names slightly and owners I don’t know the whole story but anyway with the new staff in there they have all the really nice fancy rode bikes and mountain bikes they are absolutely beautiful and that’s why I go there. But handlebar cycle company since it was called Mr. handlebars and I guess it changed names slightly and owners I don’t know the whole story but anyway with the new staff in there they have all the really nice fancy road bikes and mountain bikes they are absolutely beautiful and that’s why I go there. ButCustermer Service could use much improvement. And one of the owners I forgot his name could go to a crash course in manners 101. Most of the staff seem very indifferent. I want to ask a question before I knew anything at all about rode bikes I don’t know what it was exactly but it was something on the order of mixing group sets and brand names like. Could I put a Campagnolo 10 speed rear do you Railer on my 100% Shimano Ultegra bike. I got an answer which was why would you want to sarcastically. The answer to me as a customer should not be why would you want to. A simple yes or no in a decent fashion would have been nice and if you could do that I would expect a small explanation. I don’t think that would be too much to answer. They really seem like well we don’t care if you come in here or don’t come in here or not because they probably have a small following of loyal customers but they probably will lose them in time. The hired help is fine. I’d rather talk to them then the people that owned the place I believe it is gentleman. So with all that being said with the lousy customer service. Go to campus wheel works on Elmwood Avenue. They may not have all the fancy bikes and all the flashy road bikes and mountain bikes but you can get any bike you want there and the staff is more than happy to take care of you they are very accommodating and they will even engage you in conversation. Trying to do that with the staff of handlebars cycles wheel works in that’s like saying you could make it rain in the 🌵 Desert. Plus their prices are much cheaper. To get a wheel straightened a nice Road wheel the front one trued $25 it doesn’t sound like a lot. Then I called Campus Wheel works. $15 so that’s where I went in the front wheel was 100% perfect. Hope this helps you
Peter, Chris and the ENTIRE crew treat you as their own! No worries here, just total honesty and competence. As for the fella that didnt like having to wait for the phone call to be served....phone inquiries are customers too. What if you were on the other end.
Super helpful and very friendly! They went out of their way for me at closing time with tips when I didnt even ask. Highly recommended! 😊
Amazing staff. Very knowledgeable and helpful
Very helpful. I went I with a brake issue but was on the way to a ride. They were able to adjust it quickly and get me on my way. They were friendly so. I believe Ive found my new bike shop!
Excellent shop. Chris is the only person in town I would ever go to for fit issues. His experience in this area is second to none. They actually have experience with the stuff they sell, and can make clear recommendations based on a realistic knowledge of how you will use your product.Peter can fix anything with his eyes closed. No question it will be done right the first time.
Best Service Ever! Had to get a tire fixed for my grandson and Im clueless. The lady made the entire experience quick and painless.
I took my bike in to Handlebars as it was recommended to me by a few folks in the neighborhood. They did a quick estimate of what I needed to have done (gears tightened up) and quoted a price. The turnaround was super quick (two days) and the cost was exactly what they quoted. I would go back again.
U can fine anything u want in this place
Very helpful! I called and then stopped by today with a brake problem. A very quick fix. Love the great people at Handlebars. Thanks for getting me back on my bike so quickly.
The nicest people. I love their soul and service
The ppl at handlebar are great .every bike shop has their purpose!!! Great shop with some sweet bikes and history items
Great experience. Ready to help and give knowledge about bikes and no wait time just to change a tube
As I am new to riding I was very impressed with how much they were willing to talk to me about the product. The customer service was amazing and from this point forward I will be a handlebars bike shop lover.
A couple years back I decided to ride for Roswell so I dusted off my 30 yr old schwinn 12 speed and took it to Handlebars since they are closest to my house. They tuned it up with no issues. I kept up the riding and decided to upgrade to a new bike last fall. I told Dave my budget and he fitted me on a Trek Emonda. Under budget, love the bike, no issues. Ive been back for some accessories. Only had good experiences here.
Very glad I stopped by! The extremely friendly and helpful employees helped me get everything I needed to fix up my older bike including special ordering colored tires.
Not much parking, I ended up parking almost on the street behind the place. No biggie, I guess, it was a nice day. Guy at the counter was much more interested in his telephone conversation than my business. I got the part I needed and was going to buy a couple of inner tubes but I wasnt asked if I needed anything else beyond the part I got and I didnt press the issue; I was made to feel like I was interrupting. Ill get the tubes from the bike shop closer to my house, I ended up here because the other place was closed today. I won t be back any time soon.
Excellent service and I seen a red bike then Im going to come back and get
They got only premium range of cycles !
They were very friendly and knew what they were doing.
Local company staffed with real cycling enthusiasts who are will to educate customers.
The folks at Handlebars are so helpful and kind, they have a wide selection and knowledgeable staff, happy to help you learn more about the cycling lifestyle. Im an amateur, but hope to expand my bicycle know-how with the help of the neighborhood crew at Handlebars.
Very experienced and knowledgeable staff. Helpful and not pushy
Very helpful. I appreciated the attention and expertise.
Referred by a friend to connect with Chris. Very impressed with the people who work there and the knowledge and quality of their work.
Great shop, and really friendly and helpful staff.
Very good bike shop. Been around for years.
Of Buffalos shops, this one is my favorite. I measure shops by how they treat noobs, which I was for a long time. Usually, they were great. Occasionally, Id get a jerk, but for the most part people were good and the prices were fair/
Ive been looking for the right bike for about 2 months and I finally found it here. They carry many brands here and I went with a Rock Hopper made by specialized. The service guy there told me my exact frame and explained to me why. The bike is 770 if you order it from the site there it was 700 plus the sales guy took another 50 bucks off just because it was an 08 which was unadvertised. I asked him if he sold any special cage peddles and he found some and threw them in for free. They know how to make a customer happy by going above and beyond. Something I didnt get a Berts the past few times I went there. Its a small place and thats probably why they can do this. Plus they gave me about a 20 min tune up, with free tune ups for a year. If you feel like Berts and other bike places are becoming like car lots this is the place for you.
Services on the pricey side and I never got a call my stuff was ready
I can ride my bike with no handlebars... noooo handlebars.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff!
Best bike fitter in town
Service was awesome!
Great place
