Service was amazing. Aubree was so so sweet and went above and beyond to make my boyfriend and I happy. They can cater their menu to vegans which was nice. The veggie pasta with red sauce was vegan and delicious. They hooked it up with vegan oil dressing with vegan rolls that was amazing. Very pleased will definitely be back
Just had a fantastic Birthday Dinner here. Each dish is hand made with individual seasonings/sauces. Best Alfredo Sauce and Marinara we have EVER had!! So many choices and each one was so delicious! Even the Gluten free pasta and Zoodles were delicious. The service was over the top! Every single person treated us like we were royalty! Thank you Joe for encouraging us to come in and try it!! You are very talented. Thank you Justin for the over the top service. You underestimated yourself when you said you’d give us “great service”. It was unbelievably attentive, helpful and you all were so fun!!
Dinner 2 days ago. Absolutely fantastic!!!First, the garlic bread is absolutely evil, I could have made it my main course.I had eggplant, parmesan, but the one with ham. Wife had a garlic chicken and loved it. Sorry I miss placed receipt with names, but no worries, everyone was throughly enjoying their meals. The location is off the main strip which also takes it nice. This year will be 30th anniversary in business, so doing something right. Restroom old with patches but thats alright as very clean.
Absolutely amazing food and ambiance. The family feel, the care and attention paid to the food, the personal care taken to make everyone feel welcomed, it all made us feel like wed been coming to this restaurant for years despite it being our first time. The best garlic bread Ive ever had, and overall one of the best Italian dinners my wife and I have ever had.
I visited Carlsbad the first full week for January 2021. The boyfriend and I wanted a good place for dinner on Day 2 (January 9), so we ultimately decided on Caldo. We originally had a sidewalk table but it was pretty chilly; our server, Alejandro, was kind enough to clean a recently emptied table under a heat lamp for us to sit at. I had the baked ziti, and my boyfriend had the homemade jumbo meatball with...angel hair, I believe. The taste was phenomenal, the house-made sauce was absolutely delicious, the garlic bread was fantastic... And Alejandro was sweet enough to bring me a small piece of cake, singing me happy birthday (it was my birthday the following day).Absolutely wonderful experience, and if I ever make it back to Carlsbad, you best believe Ill be coming for dinner again!
My husband brought me here once and the food was amazing, the experience and atmosphere was wonderful then as well. This time I brought my sister and the food was just as amazing as I remembered it. This place has the best garlic bread ever, and tasty food. Our server, Justin made sure we had a great time; his recommendations were spot on and delicious and he was just so attentive and sweet.Wonderful experience, and will continue to return for great Italian food and superb service.
Finally different owner, its been 2 years since been there until last night. Awesome. Cant wait to go back
Nice, little restaurant on the corner. Wait staff was great and the food was excellent. Would definitely come back when Im in the area again.
If there was a way to leave more stars i would. By far the best Italian food Ive had in my life. My husband has been here before and told me I had to try it and Ive never been so happy to have him drag me somewhere. Friendliest staff ever and in a historical building. Used to be the Los Diego hotel built in 1925 and the place still holds all the character and charm it was built with. Amazing atmosphere, amazing food, and amazing staff. Will be going back to Caldo Pomodoro for years.
Wow where to start? This place was amazing. The food was delicious and work every penny and our waiter was so kind as well. I cant imagine us eating at any other restaurant besides the hot tomato when we visit Carlsbad from now on
My daughter in law and I were walking by this restaurant we were offered a taste of the garlic bread it was delicious we were given a coupon, we continued on our way shopping because it was early morning and we werent hungry. As it drew closer to lunch we both decided to go back to Caldo with excitement because the sample of the garlic bread. We were greeted by the same gentleman who offered the sample of garlic bread to us. He sat at an outside table as requested. We order the soup of the day as an appetizer, along with the caprese both were delicious. They have a nice menu selection for both adult & kids along with gluten free option again for both the adults and children. The restaurant has a full bar and would be great for date night, family dinners, friend time, a bite for lunch or a quite dinner alone.Great spot down town Carlsbad across from the water feature on the corner so a nice spot to people watch and enjoy the outside. The service was excellent as well as the food.I was so pleased with my experience I purchased a gift certificate for my sister and husband so they to could enjoy a dinning experience here.
Talk about a PERFECT start to our vacation!! My 3 sisters and I found ourselves at Caldo Pomodoro as our first lunch on a 3 day Carlsbad Sister getaway. Justin lured us in with his great personality ( and LOOKS) and gave us AMAZING service! We sat on the patio and chatted with the other customers...ALL were as satisfied as we were!! THE FOOD WAS AWESOME!! We shared 3 appetizers, the Baked Protobello Mushrooms, Baked Arichoke Hearts, and the Garlic Shrimp Appetizer
Amazing food and great service. Ask for Justin if you go. He gave a great insight to places to see and about the history of the restaurant. Definitely would recommend to anyone who loves Italian food!
Our server was friendly and helpful with recommendations lThe portions are large and every dish we ordered was phenomenal. The garlic bread was better than my homemade. Great experience!
Amazing! I never order pasta but did here and it was heaven on a plate. I cant remember the sauce but its the cheese sauce with Cajun spices 🤤
Had an amazing experience at Caldo Pomodoro and it can only be called that, an EXPERIENCE. The food was to die for, as it always is, but the staff and history of the building make it all the more enjoyable. By far the best Italian food Ive eaten in all of San Diego County. Will be returning to this restaurant for years to come.
ALL TIME BEST restaurant experience! This business has the most incredible food and experience Ive found to date. The menu is absolutely decadent. The breadsticks alone are enough to write a review about. The staff is engaging and passionate about their art. This restaurant makes for incredible food and an incredible experience. Dine on site for the most amazing night out!
This is truly mom and pop type place where no matter where your from you will feel welcome and appreciated! To call Aubrey a server is a discredit she is more like the Matriarch of the restaurant. Guiding and directing everything making everyone feel comfortable while laughing and providing professional & detail oriented service with a smile. The food is prepared from scratch and you can tell. The Caprese Salad was to die for. Beautifully ripened heirloom tomatoes with a ball of fresh burrata topped with fresh basil! I also had the Nutella cheesecake which was not overly sweet and was the perfect blend of chocolate, hazelnut and crust! Can’t wait to go back and try the meatballs!! The GM Johnny has been in the restaurant biz for a long time and reminds me of a Maitre D from a fine dining restaurant gracious yet accommodating in every way. Love this place!!
The best garlic bread and pasta around, definitely give this a try if you want something a little different. The service was amazing and personal. Lots of yummy options.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! My boyfriend and i ate here and both the service and food were top shelf. Justin was our waiter and was incredibly friendly and helpful. We got the gnocchi and Caesar salad, food came out very quick and was amazing.
Great experience and great pizza. We came here and the service was amazing. Even in our trying times we felt very welcomed. You can see the strip from the patio and the service is fast with a wide selection. I encourage anyone in Carlsbad looking for quick, yet classy dining. Try Caldo Pomodoro.
ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT! Caldo Pomodoro is the place to go for a superb dining experience! Alijandro and staff are eager to serve you in what I can only describe as regal. Each time I go from the moment I step foot at the front the service makes me feel majestic. Like dining should be. The ambiance is impeccable. The story itself is tremendous of the HOT TOMATO and its origin. All other restaurants must take notice. Servers take notice. These folks know how to treat and prepare meals for optimal dining enjoyment!Spectacular! Put on some clothes that make your feel like a king or queen and dine at Caldo Pomodoro as often as possible!Tell them Bronner sent you! I just might be there dining myself. It’s that wonderful of a place!Thank you my new friends!
I live in Long Beach and cant wait to go back for Caldo Pomodoro.
Service and food was fantastic! Visiting from Colorado and was super pleased! A great place to get some good authentic Italian food
So many choices in eateries in the area. this was a very good choice.we had the chicken parm and chicken marsalle.very enjoyable with nice wine, pleasant staff and the house sauce was deliciousrecommend trying this place
As delicious as always. We miss the garlic bread samples to further entice us in for a meal, but with the covid issues, we understand.
Best meal I’d had in months. By far the best garlic bread I’d ever had. Our server Justin was amazing. Remembered every order, and was very genuine. The best Italian food in Carlsbad.
Amazing food and service. I truly felt welcomed and my every need was tended to.
Best lasagna Ive ever eaten. Its like heaven, rich and delicious yet amazingly without a heavy feeling after eating. Thanks for a great Christmas dinner and dessert guys! ♥️
Visited the restaurant twice now and was remembered by the same waiter. He was very nice and greeted us warmly. Food is great. I will be returning in the future.
The appetizers all the way through to desert everything was amazing and the staff was extremely kind
Absolutely phenomenal experience. Great service, even better food! Definitely go support this business celebrating 30 years in carlsbad!
Authentic Italian food. Delicious food, great atmosphere and fabulous service!
The garlic bread is so so so good! We had the Cajun gorgonzola and manicotti. You have to really love gorgonzola cheese because its really powerful in the dish. Its very creamy and had lots of oil. The manicotti tasted like a typical manicotti with meat sauce. Its expensive here so if you want an inexpensive Italian option dont choose this place. They do have patio seating so you can people watch during the street market.
Best garlic bread I have had. Great service and the food was amazing. Recommend 10/10
Exelent dine in, profondly decidant, awesomely delishes, meals fit for anyone desirable pallets. Sercice with exelents... i need say no more... let Caldo Pomodoro, the hot tomato rock you pallets desires. Absolutely devine, try them bet youll see this as well!!!
Absolutely amazing service!! Alejandro and Aubrey treated our wedding party like we were family! ❤️ They are amazing!
Fantastic service I don’t think you can due any betterFood was to die for best Italian in Carlsbad !!!!
Justin and Alejandro were extremely welcoming and made the environment almost as good as the food!
The best!! Went there for our 30th Anniversary and it was the Best Choice! Service was impeccable, food was perfect! We WILL be back!!
The best garlic bread around no competition
Great experience, glad Newsom is allowing us to dine. Stop by for delicious Italiano!
Great food and great service, Justin was super and energetic!
Excellent service and great food
The food was really good and the service was excellent. The waiter Justin was amazing
Absolutely amazing Italian food! We stopped here on a food tour and had the artichoke hearts with garlic cheese and olives With the amazing garlic bread with marinara! Definitely had to come back and had Mike our server who was amazing! Had one of the house favorites roasted Peppers as the appetizer which was phenomenal! Had the sausage peppers and onion with marinara which was one of his great recommendations! My wife had the chicken pomero which is also fantastic! Got to see Fran one of the owners as well which was fun. Cant wait to eat my leftovers in a few hours! Thanks Mike, Fran, and Caldo Pomodoro family!
Take a step outside of this country to enjoy true food from southern Itlian Silician style home cooking. From the heart of PALERMO! Just amazing! The vibe, the food, the family comoany the staff brings. Located on the first hotel in between San diego and L.A built in early 1900s.
I visit Carlsbad a lot and would always love walking by this place because they handed out samples of their garlic bread. It’s amazing. I finally ate there and the food is even better, as well as the staff. Definitely a spot I’ll eat at again.
The place has always just seemed to cut too many corners in terms of food quality. I cant help but feel like if they cut corners on the food itself, I imagine the back must be even worse today. I know years ago they dealt with a roach problem, and that turned me away from the place for a long time. I figured time might change things, and ordered some food a few years later, and can safely say it just seems more lackluster than it did before. What changed??? I thought if its still in business, they must have improved, right? But apparently not. So yeah, I cant help but give it a bad review. The quality to price ratio just feels way way off. Sorry. Its a downtown carlsbad staple, its been around forever, but I just dont see the draw. Giving it multiple shots over, geez, a period of 15 years, and leaving gradually more disappointed every time.
The hostess up front caught our attention with how sweet and inviting she was so we decided to give it a try and we loved it so much! Our waiter Justin was so sweet with our daughter and made it fun for her too. Everyone that works there is very personable and made us feel at home. And last but not least the food was AMAZING! Best garlic bread I’ve ever had in my life. We will definitely be back!!!
The service was attentive. The food was pricey for the quality. Lots of butter and oil pooled at the bottom of my plate. That being said my wife was extremely happy with her vegetarian pasta. The other 4 of us were meh.
Very fine traditional Italian cuisine, Baked Artichokes, an excellent flavor, reminded me of the Toscany dish with fresh olives once enjoyed when there, Thank you for an excellent meal.
All was great. Server amazing. Garlic bread, wow. The jumbo shrimp and scallops in my pasta. All around great!
Some.of the best food Ive eaten in awhile. Everything was spectacular!!
The Garlic bread there was probably the best Ive ever had. Justin and Josh were awesome waiters they are what makes this restaurant so amazing.
Amazing garlic bread. Was brought here by a local, well worth it. Excellent food and portions.
Delicious!!! Service was excellent! Will miss you!
The very best Italian restaurant. Waiters are extremely cordial and willing to serve. MUST TRY. Weve been there twice and cant wait to go back when in Carlsbad.
Excellent food and great service. A little pricey, but worth it.
The service was great, almost everything else wasnt. TL;DR at bottomThe atmosphere is great and relaxed which lulls you in to a false sense of security. They push a wine menu and you hear their specials that sound good but then there it is, the menu... everything is expected to be a little expensive as long as its quality right? You order a 16 dollar appetizer that ends up tasting like it came out of a can and shoved in the oven while sipping on a 15 dollar wine which tastes like it came out of a bottom shelf bottle left open in the fridge. Then comes the food; your now in for $30 and whatever your main entree costs, this should be redeemable right? Only if you like the taste of salt and garlic in something that came refrigerated. Lasagna that we cut into was still cold in the middle. And the garlic bread? Dont worry it came with your meal. But itll cost you if you want more of this Walmart quality side. Now comes the bill. The put all of your party on one piece of paper. The super nice waitress has to basically use papyrus and feather to scribble your totals down because their system is so outdated. And at the bottom of a note, without you ever seeing an itemized list, somehow you owe close to 80 dollars without tip for food that you are just so disappointed in. And you dont want to cause a scene right. So you drop $100 and ask yourself why you went there in the first place. Oh yeah, because Vigiluccis was booked.TL;DR Servers are great but the food would need Gordan Ramsey himself to fix. This place has got to have a horror story with their food. Just dont go.
Really good
Justin, our server, did an amazing job. That being said, there were a few issues:1. The food took at least 40-45 minutes to arrive after ordering. We had small children, and definitely weren’t planning on being out so late.2. I had the ravioli, it was pretty average. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, although my wife said the chicken Marsala was very salty.3. The manager was nice, and asked how everything was. I let her know it took a long time to arrive, and she didn’t really address it. I didn’t want a discount or anything, but she seemed not to care - just pretended she didn’t hear me.4. Value isn’t there. I don’t mind going to expensive restaurants, but it’s got to be great. I felt like we were nickel & dimed. $120 totalfor 2 adults, 2 kids who shared a $25 adult entree, & a $15 kids pizza.I probably would have given 2 stars had Justin not done such a great job.
One of the pushiest restaurant to pressure people to be their customers. saw a server going onto the public sidewalk asking people walking around to come in ...soliciting in a very uncomfortable way. also super expensive for eh ok food that i could prob get at olive garden for cheaper. they claim to have the best garlic bread but it was oily as heck and greasy. we had one appetizer and left to get better cheaper food and booze a few places down. pretty sure my friend got food poisoning too...but our server was nice. hope he is ok.
WELL, firstly they didnt have our reservation but Justin soon fixed that up and it wasnt a problem. In fact we still got our outdoor table as requested. We met Fran the owner, who was just delightful in welcoming us. We all ordered dishes made with the marinara sauce, as we had all enjoyed it earlier that day. We started with a few shared appetizers, which were both delicious. Everyone in our party of six enjoyed their meals. In fact we think its one of the best Italian restaurants we have dined at! Also, the garlic bread also warrants special mention. It was amazing.
Second time going here now, both times were absolutely delicious. Great location, amazing service, and the menu has so many good options! 100% recommend!
This is our favorite place for spaghetti...always have the Sicilian meat sauce and the garlic bread is the best too! We come all the way from Bonita every few months or so...we love to sit out front.
If I could give 37 stars I would. I’ve never had service like this at any restaurant and the food was the equivalent to Christmas on a plate. The great experience started with the hostess Cole who was very sweet and then continued with our server Justin who went above and beyond to satisfy us. Which we were way more than just satisfied, it was a great experience and Justin was hands down the best server in any restaurant I’ve ever been too. If you ever go here I would recommend that you request Justin if possible as you will be MORE than pleased with the service!!!
WOW. Great service with incredible food. Best Alfredo sauce ever. Everything was perfect.
Every staff member here was so kind. Outdoor dining is open so we were able to eat outside and enjoy a gorgeous evening breeze. The meal started off with the complimentary garlic bread which was amazing. My fiance had the lasagna which he loved. I had the cajun gorgonzola pasta, which is a combo I had never seen before but it was delicious. We ended the meal with the spumoni pie which we had never had but is now one of our favorite desserts! I would highly recommend.
Service was great. Spencer was very kind and attentive . Unfortunately the place is not very clean. I had the cheese pizza and found it lacking in flavor. He said it was more authentic Italian pizza . Definitely need to deep clean this establishment..... there is no excuse for the amount of dust.
Food is delicious and the service is amazing!
The people are very nice. I love the environment that I am in. Lots of friendly personalities, very amicable. The garlic bread is delicious and soft which is exactly what I am looking for in garlic bread.
Amazing food and service! Our waiter Justin was awesome.
Nice cozy place. The staff was incredibly friendly. However the food was very average for the price. Probably the blandest lasagna weve ever had. Honestly I would not go there again.
One the best Italian food in Carlsbad.Very professional people
Excellent food and service.
Great people, great food. Good vine selection, veal, pretty much everything is delicious...highly recommended.
Very good experienceAmazing food 😋A little bit pricey but worth it 👌
We havent been here for close to a year but its just as wonderful as I remember. The food is amazing and the staff is the absolute best! Its a hidden gem!
The best Italiano restaurant in Carlsbad. Go. Just go.
Food was terrible, they entice you in with free bread samples. Waiter brags about how long they have been in business and the old recipes.I think to offset the cost and poor taste of the food. It’s the worst pasta dish I’ve ever eaten.Place definitely needs new chefs and lower prices..
Best garlic bread in San Diego county!! Bill our server was awesome!! Really made the experience even better! Had the sauteed calamari and it was fabulous. Really enjoyed the authentic east coast style Italian food. Sat out on the patio...a whole lot of fun for a reasonable price.
The food is ok but don’t bother ordering take out, takes them 3 hours to make a salad. Owner would rather have employees handing out coupons than serving customers. Never ordering from here again!
Mike was exceptional! Seriously the best guy! He cares so much, you can see it in his eyes. The food was delicious! Prices reasonable! I ordered the gnocchi and it didn’t turn out the best BUT they were so nice about it and brought me ravioli which tasted delicious!!! I also got to meet another sever named Justin who was very funny and just made the experience better!
Great food and Justin was fantastic
This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego! I live in La Costa and have been going here for years. Theyve been around for over 28 years. I recently visited with a friend visiting from the LA area. He had made reservations at Vigiluccis and I suggested Caldo Pomodoro. Alejandro was our waiter and he only added to our amazing experience! Authentic, delicious food, cozy atmosphere and the sauces are made fresh daily. Sadly, I heard the owner suddenly passed away of a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. My prayers are with the family and may his legacy live on in his recipes and the heart and soul he put into this restaurant daily.
Staff was friendly and welcoming. Food was mediocre and over priced compared to the Italian restaurants we normally frequent. $24 for a basic pasta dish and $40 if you add shrimp. But we were hungry and decided to try it because we were offered a 20% discount since it was before 5 PM. Turned out the discount was only applied to the entrees, and we were only given 15% since we didn’t pay in cash. Very misleading. We sat on their lovely patio and watched the staff approach every person who walked by trying to hustle them to come in and eat. Pretty unusual behavior for a supposedly upscale restaurant. I’m a local and will never go back.
Good pizza
What a wonderful dining experience. Service was very attentive and the food was superior. This restaurant is definitely on our “let’s go back again” list.
Took my wife here for our anniversary and was very pleased with the service Johnny gave us. He was polite, professional, and personable. The food was amazing!!!! We will definitely return.
My parents and I have been eating at Italian mom and pop restaurants from Hollywood to the San Fernando Valley to the San Gabriel Valley during my younger years. Since I rarely get to Los Angeles anymore, Caldo recreates all those old feelings of home cooked food in a familiar environment.Fortunate to have them so close to my home.
Absolutely incredible. Food was amazing and service was perfect.
I had seafood in marinara sauce, it was delicious. The server was attentive. I enjoyed my time!! The owner (Gina) is so nice and lovely!!
They got me hook line and sinker. They gave me a piece of their award winning garlic bread when i was walking down the street. One bite in and we had to sit on their cool deck for dinner. All the servers were amazing and super nice and friendly. Great experience! Give it a shot for sure.
Met a friend that I havent seen in awhile at this wonderful Italian restaurant thats been around for years in downtown Carlsbad. Met a couple of the bartenders. They were wonderful - friendly and gracious. We ordered calamari and shrimp ravioli. It was to die for! Paired with a nice glass of wine and great company and it was the beginning to a perfect evening. :-)
The sauces are truly outstanding and the service exceptional! Happy hour starts at 4:00 with a 20% discount. I will remember this place, the food, and hope to return the next time we are in the area. WOW!
The real deal, small family-run Italian spot for almost 3 decades in Carlsbad with outstanding hand-crafted dishes and lots of character. Staff very friendly and engaged with guests, highly recommend!
