Its hit or miss everytime I come here. Frequently given the wrong size beverage - ask for a small receive a large, ask for a large receive a medium. The excuse is, they dont have that size cup in stock. Cool, maybe let me know before I pay? Maybe let me know, so I can make modifiers on my beverage? If I ask for a double small latte and I get a large, the espresso shots are going to taste different with the extra milk. Maybe give me the option to either add more shots (which Im happy to pay for) or maybe just fill up the 20oz large size cup only 8oz to reflect the small that I ordered and paid for. Each drink I order, no matter what it is, tastes different. How many ways can you make a regular latte? Clearly, depending on how you pull the shots, if you aerate the milk (at all) the drink will taste different depending on who is making it. This is by far the worst most least consistent Dollop in the city. Because its located in Hyde Park though, no one will care, and it wont get better.
Standard coffee bar. I like to have off-site meetings here. Would like to recommend that management puts some signs on the doors to direct people to the proper entrance. Its always weird watching people yank on the doors that are locked.
Very pleasant for a quick coffee. Mainly students share this space and the laid back feel reflects this. You can grab a spot on the sofas and soak in the sun.
Do not go here if you are a tea drinker. Your tea will arrive in the form of a pour-over using a coffee filter. Thats right: your barista will explain that since they are out of tea bags he is forced to offer you a four dollar cup of urine colored liquid, barely hot and not even smelling like tea. What a royal waste of leaves!
I LOVE The potato salad.. i am still trying to get the recipe and the Brie sandwich is a delightful treat for the palette. The only thing I would suggest is putting the Brie sandwich on a different bread to really make it over the top delish. The staff I give a 5!!! They are super friendly!!
I love the college crowd and modern, yet cozy feeling you get from the place. There is plenty of seating available for just you or a group of friends. Also they have huge windows that offer plenty of natural lighting, so you dont feel like your reading in the dark.
Aesthetically pleasing open space with lots of seating. Friendly staff and a selection of foods as well as drinks. But the wifi cut out incessantly when I was here and 8.00 for a very small tuna salad sandwich felt a little on the high end.
Mid sized coffee located at University of Chicago campus. It has a light atmosphere that invites to sit down, with many students working there. Its a little pricy but offers very tasty coffee.
Food is good, but sort of over-priced. A good place to meet for study with just one other person. Not enough power outlets, like most places. Coconut oolong tea is quite good! Free refills of water and the teabags are large enough that refills dont make tea bitter or flavorless. Music is often too loud.
Great Place aesthetically BUT barely average coffee. Dont go there for customer service or good coffee... its not that great.🤔
If you actually enjoy espresso stay away from Dollops, it tastes very burnt and I debated whether or not just to throw it out. However, I did get the egg and cheddar biscuit which was actually really good and worth getting if youre looking for a light breakfast.
Beware the training of the baristas. Recent trends have led to decreased attentiveness and poor performance of the baristas. Two consecutive days I ordered a mocha and had to request that they add chocolate syrup after I was handed a latte. And, two of the last three times, the barista finished a personal call making me wait several minutes. The time before that, the barista continued the call while taking orders. All this was compounded by the fact that the last time I was there they forgot to make my drink at all. The espresso is still the best in Hyde Park.
Nice campus coffee shop they make very good Gourmet Coffee. If you are at the University of Chicago and you want an iced Brew definitely check it out plenty of work space to have a meeting or if you need a space to do homework or you want to go on a date.
Today I called to see when dollop would close and they told me 2pm. I got there around one and ordered an iced coffee. It was very gross, and cost $4? Then they actually closed at 1:30pm and kicked customers out. I would have gone somewhere else to study. Tossed the coffee in the trash because it tasted that bad and went somewhere else to get another.
Cute coffeeshop with a retro vibe. Baked goods and coffees are good, prices are reasonable for Chicago. Note the chairs remind me of elementary school classrooms which arent the most comfortable.
Nice space, but not very user friendly (menus scattered, some written on glass), and at least when I went there, the service was neither helpful or friendly. I felt like I was invading someone elses space.
General manager was friendly and knowledgable. Ample seating and natural light is a plus.
Updating this review as Ive spent more time here. Ive fixed the lukewarm beverage situation by asking the staff to preheat my mugs, which has helped immensely. I do wonder however if their modbar machines do run a little cool. The decor is still poorly planned, but the staff seem happier.Original: TWO STAR:I visit this location frequently. My biggest complaint is that they consistently fail to produce hot drinks (especially of the espresso variety). On multiple occasions Ive received warm or lukewarm beverages, even after I specifically requested it extra hot. The decor is poorly planned and uninspired. They have recently fixed their three legged tables so that they dont tip (by adding hilarious horns to the legs). There are lots of uncomfortable picnic style benches, and even their Dollop mural is hidden behind a concrete post, two fridges, and a bunch of haphazardly organized boxes. They know they have a captured audience and it shows.
Dollops was fine for the occasion of the event which was held in the auditorium. And the little teacakes, they were delibioud
Great tea selection and lovely lavender latte. A good place to get work done with plenty of seating.
My favorite things about Dollop are its coffee and how much sunlight it gets. Other than that, Ive tried the food (breakfast items in particular) and I dont like most of it. The croissants are good but theyre too expensive for the taste. Also the ambiance feels very cold and bare to me, I wish they went for a cozier look.
This is my go to local coffee shop on the west side of Hyde Park. I love the staff, there’s always seating, there’s plenty of outlets for plugging in, lots of space, and high quality tea and coffee.
Great and friendly place. They always remember my drink, and are very kind about my vegan considerations.
The person making our sandwiches was nice but he needed help. He was the only one there making sandwiches and coffee.
Strong coffee, good tea, kind staff. Biscuits are yummy. Expensive but nice atmosphere.
Nice coffee shop with natural lighting from tall glass windows. I was posted up working here for 4+ hours and the time just flew by!
Great little coffee shop on campus. Decor is very hipster, but theyre open early and late and make a great cappuccino
Good vibes and great coffee (their Kyoto cold-brew kicks harder than anything). Yet, the location (all locations?) desperately needs to ditch the current tables and chairs. I thought that the run-of-the-mill chairs found in the Chicagos cafes were uncomfortable, but these hand-made specialties bring discomfort to new heights.
Nice cup of cappuccino - delicious egg biscuit (farm fresh ingredients in Hyde Park!) - perfect for a quiet Sunday morning.
Definitely overpriced. Muffins and scones are ok. The espresso is terrible, almost offensive.
Most amazing atmosphere Ive ever experienced
Friendly staff, great place for studying, but my latte tasted bland
While the coffee is good and the sandwiches delicious, the cost and service leaves this location with much to be desired. The chain-of-communication from the order to the barista, in particular, is fundamentally broken: I have had four occasions in a row in which my order was botched or miscommunicated from between the register to production.UChicago coffee lovers are better off with the more crowded and comparably-priced Plein-Air cafe, if they are looking for coffee and lunch, or, during the school year, the incomparable service and coffee excellence of Grounds of Being (which is really the only real coffee shop in the neighborhood).
A beautiful place with lots of light. the music is way too loud to study, or even to talk to a friend.
The food is Awesome.
Great hangout spot! Great tea choices.
Great to have Dollop on campus. Great coffee cool atmosphere
Great breakfast sandwiches Students working all around.
Great coffee, great space. Music is EXTREMELY loud tho, esp toward the end of the evening
Nice cute place for coffee near UChicago.
The coffee isnt bad but the environment is sterile
Great Coffee - wonderful study space - music is well curated but WAY too loud. If the baristas cant hear it while working, they should put the speakers in their workspace...
Sandwich was good taste and value.
Good coffee and lots of space to hang out
Cold. Crappy internet. Overpriced food. Blahhhh
Not too bad, but things are a bit expensive
Enjoyed their breakfast sandwich.
Really tasty coffee with friendly baristas
I love dollop but this was pathetic, they used wrong filters for their pour overs, seemed utterly disheveled, and looked kind of thrown together as a whole.
Lots of light and places to work, plus printing. I havent tried the coffee or food yet.
Best coffee Ive ever had, but a bit on the expensive side
Great coffee and study atmosphere.
Quite possibly the worst Americano ever poured.
Its good
A little pricey, but nice work environment
Strong, delicious coffee!
Best coffee in Hyde Park
Average place, well lit, slightly overpriced coffee
Gdeat tea selection
It is a modern cafe. The lid and cup of black tea are difficult to close, and the cup becomes soft and squishy when hot water is added, which is very dangerous.
