First off I’d buy every bike in here if I could. Beautiful custom made single speeds, including the frames. I was looking for a rental bike that was a bit more fun to ride so I called up heritage and they said they have a few rentals. I arrived and they got me set on a glorious single speed. My wife is running the Chicago marathon and I wanted to tag along on a bike. The service was excellent as I rented the bike. Very friendly. I will return again and again here. Thanks!
This place was super cool and I came here every morning since I moved a block away to get the cold brew and vegan crunch wrap with no cashew. I always specify no cashew because I am allergic (thankfully not life threatening). Today I got the same thing I always get and sure enough they made a mistake and put cashew in it. Now I have to deal with very uncomfortable allergy symptoms for the rest of the day (itchy, closing throat, etc.). They really should have a vegan option that doesnt normally include cashew, because their food is actually very good, but I do not want to come back here after this incident.
Awesome little coffee shop. Nice to sit on their new patio and get some work done.
Great place, very good coffee, delicious food and great atmosphere. The patio is really cool.
I can’t resist the lavender latte (hot or iced) and the breakfast burrito (add avocado). Great vibes & lovely staff too
Great coffee, food, and atmosphere! Definitely check it out. Try the vegan crunch wrap - way better than I expected!
Super friendly staff both in the coffee shop as well as the bike shop. Lovely place!
Heritage Bicycle. Mike and the entire crew over there are top notch. By far one of the coolest things about Chicago is the Heritage squad of coffee spots. Shout out to the Wilson location and the two dudes who make the greatest iced latte with an extra shot (in a paper cup). --- Coach
Cute place! I stopped in to see what they had, and grabbed the most delicious Lavender Latte. I was then able to sit outside in their little “garden” with a vintage camper and picnic tables to enjoy my coffee in the sun.
11/10 would recommend Heritage Coffee. I love exploring new coffee shops and hands down Heritage is my favorite coffee shop in Chicago. My favorite locations are the one on Lincoln and the one on LaSalle. Delicious coffee and always kind staff. My go to is an iced oat milk latte. Their overnight oats are also phenomenal!
Heritage is my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. Their lattes are great, they often have fun seasonal flavors and their vibe is so laid back and chill. I love that I can order online and grab a pick-up when Im in a hurry. During Covid they are being very safe and I feel comfortable ordering from them.
They are being very safe during Covid which I really appreciate! Definitely place your order ahead of time and pick it up, super convenient. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and welcoming atmosphere. Great breakfast sandwiches, lattes, and coffee beans!
Great vibe, delicious breakfast sandwiches, and fresh hot coffee and tea made by a dedicated friendly team. Several locations. Thank you, Heritage. And heres to persevering & succeeding despite the 2020 challenges. I invite everyone to visit the Heritage location nearest to you!
Love the coffee! Also great to get my bike fixed and tuned up! They are quick and give you a good estimate of when they will finish
I was moving out of Chicago and I needed my bike fender fixed because of a dent and my bike wrapped i so I could ship it. They quoted me $30 ..They called me and let me know my bicycle was ready When I got there the wrapping was done so bad ..I let him know that this was not the wrapping that I was showed how my bike would be done for $30 and the Sales man said that’s what we do for $30 And then i looked at the fender they didn’t even fix it they said oh that would’ve been too difficult to fix... no one called me no one let me know. He looked at me like it was not his problem. I would never recommend this bicycle shop the worst customer service in Lincoln Park there’s so many other bicycle shops out there with better customer service and willing to help the customer. So beware before you buy a bike here
Heritage adds so much local charm to Lakeview. Just as much as I love the food and coffee, I also look forward to seeing their ever changing murals. Shop local!
We specially came from Milwaukee to have coffee at this place. The service was outstanding. We were very happy to see that the staff was so committed to customer safety. We wore masks while ordering drinks, the associate at the counter wore mask too, and had a smile in his tone when talking to us. Would highly recommend for their coffee and the customer service!
Wonder place with great coffee & other items. The employees are also very nice..
The mechanics at heritage are honest, generous and extremely skilled. I have never been disappointed by their exacting and consistent quality of service.
Great coffee, delicious food, happy people, and helpful staff! Also very good place to get new bikes, or get your old ones serviced
I got the iced oat milk vanilla latte yesterday and tasted like someone kissed me on the forehead, gave me a nice long hug, and told me everything will me ok
Super friendly staff at the bike shop. It’s always been an enjoyable experience and they’ve done a great jobs every time I needed work done.
Neighborhood coffee destination with Do Rite donuts for a weekend ritual. Plus they take great care of my bike!
Excellent bike service at the Lincoln Ave shop! And, the coffee is delicious as well! #shoplocal!
Great coffee!Great food!Great service!Great vibe!Love this place!
I wish I could rate the bike shop separately from the coffee shop, but do NOT get your bike repaired here. I brought my bike in for a tune up and to have my rear brakes fixed because they were squealing very loudly. I came back three times and each time that I came to pick up my bike because it was supposedly fixed, the staff never knew what the previous mechanic did, kept referring to my bike as an entry level bike and claiming that the brakes and calipers werent designed well, and never ended up fixing the issue I initially brought it in for. Terrible communication and service. Its unfortunate because I do love the coffee shop and was excited to get my bike serviced here, but never again.
Great bike shop. I have had a lot of work done here and I am impressed.
This review is for the bike shop next door to the coffeeshop. I went in to fix the inner tub of the front tire and to figure out why this particular part kept puncturing. I worked with Daniel, who was extremely thorough and was keen enough to teach me the mechanics of what he was doing. He found the issue when 3 other bike mechanics were unable to do so. I am extremely glad he was in the store that day and will now be coming back for him whenever I have any other issues. Thanks again Daniel and Heritage!
Super delicious coffee, cute little shop and outside sitting area, very friendly staff!
I visit this place at least a few times a week. Its definitely an awesome place, great vibes and the people who work there are always great. Their music selection/playlist is always on point! Best cold brew in the city! The two best things on their menu would have to be hands down the Avocado Toast and the Diner Breakfast.
Great coffee, even better environment and attentive staff - 5-stars!
If you need work done in your Bicycle use one of the other great shops around Chicago. This shop has no integrity and doesn’t care about you or your property. They have a my frame out for paint about 4 months now and have made no attempt to inform me of what’s going on. They don’t return calls or emails. Once again there are shops all over you can use but Heritage shouldn’t be one of them.
Delicious Coffee, great food and wonderful staff. Love Heritage Coffee!
Great atmosphere and wonderful coffee! They are also involved in helping the Chicago community!
Great food and coffee. Offer tasty began items.
One of my favorite coffees hops in Chicago! Hope they survive the pandemic.
Always a good spot to people watch with a cup of coffee. With a global pandemic they have outdoor seating. Worth the stop
One of my favorite coffee shops in Chicago! Hope they survive the pandemic.
My favorite coffee shop! It’s such a cozy space and the drinks never disappoint whether I get coffee or tea.
First off they know how to serve espresso. Simple, neat, and with a side of sparkling. The above is only one aspect however, their bike shop is great! Came in while I was price checking for a new saddle. Had just had a terrible experience at On the Road up the street where I felt demeaned by the shop clerk. Stepped in and after a little wait I was able to start asking questions. The tech was patient and receptive to my questions. While they did not have the product best suited to my particular needs he was able to not only point me in the right direction but also offered to help me with my bike no matter what my decision. I may not buy a saddle here but I will come back for the coffee and maybe a basket.Goes to show what quality customer service can produce.
This is hands down THEE best bicycle shop in Chicago. The aesthetics, the workers, I dont even know where to begin. One side is dedicated to bicycle repairs and custom made bikes. The gentleman who helped me was an expert on anything bike related. He took his time to explain everything about what he was doing and what caused my flat tire. The complimentary coffee while waiting on my bike repair was above and beyond what I expected. The other side of the shop, the cafe, is equally as amazing. The staff is so genuine and nice. And the coffee... man it blows alot of the coffee shops in the area out of the water. Freshly made pastries and food. They even have a little gift shop in the back. 10/10 will come back again 🤙
Ive been hiding out here for a few days since my van was getting fixed near by. Their food is really good, their coffee is also great, I like the old loft/ house vibe with the old school cabinets, the coaches, the small kitchen concept, and the bike shop... its sorta like youre hanging out at your friends while they work on their bikes and you chill on their couch, and then your other friend makes you something to eat. Everyone is super friendly, and their outdoor seating is so cool because they have an old van! For a vanlifer like me, this place is everything I could ask for and more. Oh, their private bathroom is also great. Adds to that homey feel because its just a regular bathroom! It even has a counter so put your purse on or whatever. Id say this is a nice home away from home type of coffee/ bike shop. Super rad concept.
Neighborhood favorite - come here all the time. Great coffee and snacks, wonderful staff.
Nice place and the patio is cute, they had heaters outside.
I’ve been just about a daily customer since Heritage opened its doors in 2011. My son has also been drinking decaf Heritage Coffee since he was 7-years-old, and there is no end to this coffee-drinking in sight! In 2012, I bought two bikes from Mike for my wife and me. We had 9-years-old twins at that time. Those Heritage Bicycles were the beginning of regular bike riding adventures that today our whole family enjoys. Then, Mike started outdoor summer movie nights, which have become one of our family’s and the neighborhood’s highlighted traditions. This began in a Chicago alley that somehow feels like home when we watch movies together. In the fall, Heritage hosted World Series viewing parties that were awesome! It felt like hundreds of people gathered to cheer on the Cubs together.Mike and Heritage have ignited the old-school neighborhood feel, and we cherish being a part of it! Thanks a lot! We are looking forward to many more great times.p.s. The coffee is delicious too!
I love this place. So happy to have them in our neighborhood! Nice people, great coffee and food!
My favorite coffee shop in chicago, plus they sell treats, donuts, and food now
The mechanic was communicative and kind. Just got my bike back and it runs great! Will definitely be back.
A large storefront with plenty of seating. The espresso was very good especially paired with the small piece of brownie you get with each espresso. All staff seem friendly and approachable. The bike shop is open and in the storefront which is nice to be able to watch them as they work. A testament to them having pride in there work. They sell a lot of Brooks items as well.
I love this coffee shop- it’s local, has great drinks (oat milk late!), tasty food (brownie, cinnamon roll, vegan crunch are all delicious), eclectic + vintage decor, books to read, and they only play good music. The bike shop is also lovely and convenient if my bike needs some tlc. I tried their other locations, and this one is by far my favorite. Great vibe, check it out!
Terrible service first and last time I go there, went yesterday morning around 10ish ordered a burrito 25min later nothing I went and ask what the status of my burrito and the person who took my order replied with an attitude telling me that he has already told that he was going to take it outside once it was done. After he said that I waited 5-8more minutes and I just left. I’m a service writer and I don’t give attitude to any customers. Keep my $11 dollars not worth disputing with my bank
Bike shop opens at 9am but coffee open earlier. I was here at 815, so had to sit and enjoy a fantastic cappuccino. The bike guy is really knowledgeable and builds his own. He will fix anything and have a good talk about your bike and best practices. Instantly my favorite bike shop in the city. Thanks guys
This is a super cute coffee and bike shop. I went for the coffee which was delicious. It was hot out so we got the cold brew. Im not a super big fan of cold brew so I was surprised by how much I liked it. It had great flavor. Also, staff was super friendly and patient as we stood debating what we wanted and as we searched for cream and such.
Try the sandwiches, they’re delicious! And the coffee is too :)
I was simply trying to get some brew but the two girls that were here 5/11/19 really were acting very childish and immature. Wasnt sure if it was both their first day there or what but they acted like they had no clue of what was going on and I had to keep repeating my order. Like grow up, get some sense or go work at a childcare.
Just the loveliest and most adorable coffee shop in town. The people that work there are so friendly and the environment makes you just want to curl up with a book for the rest of the day. Every time I go there, theres a part of me that wishes I worked in an environment like this. So cute. The bike shop workers are phenomenal. They helped me out with an issue I had on my bike and couldnt have been more friendly. I felt extremely welcomed and felt as though wanted my return business. A shame the bike rack couldnt be assembled as I had hoped, but in the future Ill do all my bike business with them.Great coffee and delicious soups.
I thought this place was so impressive in its layout and design. I love the concept of a bike/coffee shop! Im not a coffee drinker but I still came and the folks looked really happy with there drinks. They also offer high end chocolates and other pastries that looked delicious.
Joel the mechanic has made Heritage the place I recommend to everyone for bike repairs and advice -- skilled, knowledgeable, and super friendly! He built my first nice set of wheels a couple years ago, and hes helped with various other big & small problems. I always look forward to coming back here, though I dont have to very often because of what a good job he does.
I had the best experience with Joe! I called on a Sunday wanting a kick stand for a kids bike. He was so courteous on the phone. He put me at ease saying it comes a standard size and he cuts it down to the right size. I came in immediately and he had it done so fast maybe 10 minutes. My husband mentioned to him he needs bike to go faster cause our kid is peddling too much. He changed something else on the bike think something with gears and now my daughter goes way faster. Total time was less than 30 minutes. He was fabulous and I strongly recommend.
Heritage is a perfect blend of coffee shop and bike shop. The atmosphere is relaxed if you want to just hang out and have a drink. The big tables and chairs are perfect if you need to get some work done too.The bike mechanics are extremely knowledgeable and helpful for all your bike needs. If you have a full blown race machine they can take care of you but will also work on your daily commuter too. Its hard to find a non pretentious shop where you can relax and chat with the staff and not feel intimidated. Heritage is it!One other thing that sets them apart from every other shop in town is their convenient hours. If you want you can drop your bike off as early as 7am which works perfect if you work non standard hours and can pick up all the way until 7 at night.Stop by and check it out you wont be disappointed.
Heritage is my go-to creative thinking spot. I often work here when I have a project that requires inspiration and focus, and Heritage never fails to provide. Mike has created a laid-back space where creators can gather to be fueled with caffeine and inspiration.
Great place to read and enjoy quality coffee. The interior has such a unique feel that you dont get at many other cafes in the area. Key is to show up early and get a seat, not much seating for how busy it gets. The second room is a full service bicycle repair shop with accessories for sale. My favorite part of the cafe was the massive safe from eras past. Why is it there? Who knows, but its just another little detail into this marvelous cafe.
I was born and raised in the Chicago area and then moved West my last year of High School. I do visit Chicago quite a bit because of family and friends. I always love to stop by Heritage because it has a welcoming feel and everyone is very friendly! They also have the best chai tea latte and yummy treats (which helps!). I also have been to Heritage Outpost on Wilson and it is a gem and a great place to hang out!
Heritage is a fantastic place with a great concept. They have excellent coffee, food, and bike service. Its hard to pull this off all in one stop, but Heritage continuously does a terrific job. They have created an environment that is inviting and friendly - the bike shop crew is very knowledgeable and helpful. Although I dont live nearby, I make it a point to stop in when riding through the area or whenever Im in need of good coffee!
Nice cup of coffee, hip atmosphere. At times a bit slow (even for standard drip). If youre just going for coffee, its an interesting shop worth stopping in once.
We walk here frequently for coffee, & occasionally breakfast. The guy in the kitchen is slow as molasses. Watch him move around the kitchen. It’s unbelievable. His pace is the same when it’s empty as when it’s slammed. This morning, one order in front of mine. Waiting for 1 avocado toast. 17 minutes so far. Ridiculous!!! Do t order food here unless you are prepared to wait & wait & wait.
Reviewing Heritage feels a bit like reviewing my own kitchen table. Like most people in the neighborhood my family views this coffee and bike shop as an extension of our own home. Youll find us here most weekend mornings, our son still in his pajamas, enjoying the coffee and watching custom bikes being built. Thank you Mike and Melissa for the community you have created.
Great coffee and cold bikes
Love this shop. We got a custom-built mixtie bike for my wife. Has a special shiny red fleck paint job, white tires and a white chain. Looks like no other bike out there. These guys are serious craftsmen. Chicago needs more local manufacturing like Heritage.
A legit coffee shop paired with a solid bike shop is hard to come by in Chicago, but Heritage has pulled it off.The drinks and food are always good and the space has a warm feel and welcoming atmosphere. The guys working on the bikes in back are knowledgeable and handle anything from a kids first bike, to a city commuter to a weekend race bike.
Brought my bike into get a tune up and new brake wires, it took 2 and half weeks when I was told it would take 3 days. Long story short I had to follow up constantly to figure out the status of my bike. Once I got it back, it rode terribly and was worse then when I brought it in. I took it to another shop and they said it looked like it had not been touched and the back brake had no tension and was not working. The brake wires were replaced, but there is a washer missing on my back caliper that was there when I brought it in. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here.
Had no idea this place was here, super cute feeling inside the cafe. I almost felt out of the county and back in time. Super tall ceilings, was super trendy with old furniture. Wish it had more seating. Latte was good. The outdoor seating was super cute too. Couple picnic tables for those to chill and drink or work.
Read about how awesome this place was in a article, so I had to go check it out for myself. Loved it! The decor is awesome, if you love bikes, youre going to fit right in. The coffee is great, although Ive only had one drink, Im sold! They have a good mix of people hanging out and people doing work, with a couple of outdoor seating options to choose from.
This shops poor service almost had me killed. I dropped a bike off for a complete tear-down, paint, & rebuild in early December which they promote on their website as being a 4 - 6 week procedure. During the process they misplaced my bike fork, applied the wrong paint color (which then needed re-paint), and made false promises about when the work would be finished over and over again. During this whole process management was evasive and would not return my calls. I had to go into the shop time and time again to talk to someone. It took over 3 months to finally get my bike back from their shop and without me even putting 20 miles on it after it was in Heritages hands the steering tube split in two WHILE I WAS RIDING (see photo). I could have seriously been injured! Now I am having another shop install a new fork and headset. So much money and time wasted with these guys who turned a personal project into a nightmare. Needless to say my bike is not what I was hoping for as I trusted Heritage to paint my frame and fork and rebuild my bike but I ended up getting a complete mess. Seriously, go somewhere else.
Heritage is not just a coffee and bike shop. It is a great coffee place, that also happens to have a full service shop that can fix anything for your commuter and race bike. Great atmosphere that allows for indulging in two vices, coffee and bikes, with tons of unique accessories, delicious pastries, sandwiches, and bike culture!Ben and his team take the time to figure out whats wrong, communicate it clearly, develop a plan of resolution and estimated cost. The bike wash is a game changer in the sloppy shoulder seasons to keep your ride looking great and reducing the service intervals.
Best coffee shop in the city! Brilliant collaboration between two things that simply work, coffee and bikes. Quality cold brew, hot coffee and great atmosphere. With that being said, be prepared to wait for your coffee. Great coffee cant be ready in a minute.
Great coffee and bike service.
They always made me feel at home, at a time when I needed one. You folks new at freelancing know what I mean. The space is well appointed (think Pottery Barn) and the baristas and staff are super nice and friendly. The drinks are good, and they also have sandwiches and little bites from local shops. And they have the neatest bike gear. Come summer theyll have the furniture out in the parking spots just out front again, I hope. A fantastic place to stop if youre biking on Lincoln.
Ive been a regular consumer of both the coffee bar and bike repair shop at Heritage for quite some time. The coffee staff is friendly and they produce top-notch espresso drinks. The service team is experienced and their mechanics have the attention to detail that truly illustrates the pride in their work. If you want a place that will provide an amazing coffee and bike experience in one location, Heritage General Store is your ideal destination.
Easily the best bike shop I have ever been in. Cant speak for their coffee but the service is impeccable. Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff
I travel to Chicago from southern California about 2-3 times a year for business and family reasons. Knowing what a coffee fanatic I am a family member suggested that I give Heritage a try and Im more than delighted that I did.I love to grab a coffee and a pastry and watch the world go by, and this a an amazing place to do all three of those things. Its always warm and welcoming and there is a constant buzz and bustle of people working on laptops, having ad hoc meetings and watching the bike maintenance and assembly going on.I also love to browse the store and usually find about 5 things I never knew I needed. I also think I have every tee-shirt they have ever produced!
A perfect place to grab a cup of coffee. They serve Stumptown--which, in my opinion is the best. I love the communal tables; I wish more people would have struck up a conversation while sitting at them. I go into a coffee shop to unplug from virtual reality and to actually engage in a conversation. Nonetheless, great staff, good coffee, and I assume good bikes.
Wow, I didnt know this place is also a coffee bar. With a quick glance on the exterior, I would have passed this place thinking its only a place to get my bike fixed. But now, after stopping by, i know it to be a great place to get coffee surrounded by cutesy bike paraphernalia. and hey, get your bike tuned up to if you needed it. You can have coffee while you wait.
Literally love this place and would go here every day if I lived closer to it. The vanilla latte is sooo good because it’s not too sweet and the baked goods are amazing !
Beautiful and bright with excellent coffee and donuts. Equally great for getting work done and grabbing a coffee with friends. The staff is awesome. Dont miss this one!
Great coffee and the atmosphere is awesome too!
One of the coolest coffee spot in town. I love both the interior design and their menu. Try chai tea latte with double chocolate muffin and get rid of all your worries🤤
These guys are top notch. Very friendly and welcoming. They are all vey clearly passionate about bikes and know a lot about anything from a commuter to a race bike. I would highly recommend dropping your bike off and grabbing a coffee.
