The photo isn’t slanted, the ice cream was dispensed on the side. I personally have a bias towards soft serve ice cream, so I enjoyed it. The swirl was half Thai iced tea and half Hokkaido milk. Thai ice tea had some tea flavor, but gave a lingering dry mouth feeling. Hokkaido milk tasted like an elevated vanilla ice cream. This place has unique flavors. It was very pricey for the amount of ice cream you get. You’re paying for the looks and unique flavors.
Always fresh and delicious. The staff are super friendly as well! I love all the amazing flavors! I dont have a favorite yet since Im always trying something new.
I used to live a block away from Taylor street, and I’ve seen this shop change so many times over the years before Kurimu made its home there. And I’ve got to say: I’m glad that it’s there to stay because I stop by every time I’m in the area!-My recommendation is that you cannot go wrong with the taro soft serve and/or the melon bun with a scoop of purple yam!-The price seems a bit higher at first, but the quality is more than worth it in my book!
Hands down one of the best dessert spot in Chicago! 💜🤍 If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place to go. Delicious and Sweet! We’ve got the messy boba swirl 🍦 which is soft serve+ fresh boba + brown sugar syrup) the soft serve flavours were taro and hojicha and they were sooooooo good, Loved it! Perfect treat for this hot weekend. Service was good too! I Highly recommend it! Yum yum! 🤤
Kurimu on Taylor St. Is a great location which can sometimes get lines. Their drinks taste good but for the price I expected a larger portion. Theres also only one size. Overall good experience but wish there were bigger drinks and that the dine-in section was open so we could take pictures in front of their neon sign.
Only recently went here on a whim, and Im so very glad we did! Its such a cool shop, and their ice cream is really great. Flavors are a bit unconventional, which I loved. I got scoops of purple yam and oreo, and chocolate supreme, in the black cone. I thought the purple yam would be the star but it was actually the chocolate for me. So rich!Indoor restroom is currently not accessible, must have a mask for entry, no indoor seating yet, street parking only.
This might be the most style over substance place Ive ever been to. Its endlessly designed for social media, but the actual food here is well below average.I had the pictured soft serve, which while a beauty to look at, was a far cry from a standard cone at dairy queen. It was like an average cone, with a little bit of a flavor packet, and some pretty food coloring. My wife had the mango snow tea drink, which may have been the most artificial tasting thing Ive ever had. Yuck.If youre looking for somewhere to take pretty pictures, and post to social media, this is the spot. But if youre here to actually eat, Id pass on this one.
KURIMU’s flavor ideas are always great. Their actual flavors have never come through each time I’ve come here though. I had the Guava soft serve today and I wasn’t able to detect the flavor in there at all :/. One of the persons that attended my friend and I was also very rude from the beginning. We had asked for a cone, but she gave us a plastic cup and when we mentioned this to her she just went on to stab the come on top of the ice cream in the cup. We were there for less than 3 minutes and there really was no reason for this person’s bad attitude.Still wanting to try their Wicker Park location, maybe I’ll have better luck there.
Absolutely TERRIBLE service. Several reviews have mentioned this as well and all have gotten passive aggressive and rude replies from the business owner him/herself, which is HIGHLY unprofessional. The cashier was rude and impatient, she seemed annoyed at any questions I asked. DON’T PAY for toppings because 1) they’ll forget to put the toppings and 2) when I told them they forgot my toppings, they literally gave me a tiny SPRINKLE of oreo. To add insult to injury, while I was waiting for toppings, the cashier gave me a death glare and asked, “Is there anything ELSE I can help you with??”Ice cream was decent though despite the bad taste in my mouth from the abysmal service - lychee, care bear, and matcha were good. Oreo cream is nothing special though. For $7 ice cream, I’d rather take my business somewhere with good service though. Will not be coming back and I do not recommend.Edit: The reply from the business proves my point on them always shoving blame onto the customer. I did not give “dirty looks” to anyone, so you’re outright lying to make the customer look bad and yourself better? You have questionable morals. Listen to your criticism instead of being in denial, and maybe your business will improve!
I love their Ice cream! I cant get enough of their Cereal Topped Ice creams and the white rabbit candy! Every time I go to Chicago I make it a point to make sure I always get an ice cream from them! Highly recommend this ice cream shop! definitely worth the wait!
My and my fiancé love to go there, kurimu swirl are the best and such a different flavors every couple weeks, plus Dalgona coffee is awesome !we lov you Kurimu ! :)
A frequent weekend spot for me. Large selection of ice cream and the staff there are super helpful and friendly. My wife and I had a ton of questions and they answered them very patiently. Highly recommend!!
I loved Kurimu at my first visit and it has yet to fail me. The soft serve is very clever with the changing flavors and option for boba topping. The rest of their homemade ice-cream competes with diverse flavors you can’t find at traditional stores; from lychee to green tea to coffee, every flavor is strong enough to keep your palette wanting for the next bite. It’s a bit pricier than your traditional ice cream cone, but it’s original and can’t be beat. The service has also been great every time and very helpful with flavor selection! One of my favorite local joints and I love bringing out-of-state guests to try it.
Just came in with my wife and 20 month old son. I ordered a soft serve swirl on a cone. On my way out I accidentally dropped my cone(completely my fault). Without hesitation, they gave me a brand new one. I love this business in our neighborhood. We need more businesses like this one. The people in there are literally always the nicest most genuine people. Not to Mendon the ice cream is delicious!
Very cute place! The ice cream is beautifully prepared and the drinks are great (not overly sweet). Very reasonable priced! Due to social distancing, they’re letting about three people in at a time to order, so there’s a line outside (not very long depending on the time of day) and they’ll bring you your order. I highly recommend!! ❤️
My wife has been begging to go here for months, so we finally took the drive. She was completely in love with the aesthetics and she enjoyed the ice cream. The ice cream was, just ok to me, it seemed really rich in flavor which isn’t always the best as I couldn’t finish mine. I had the red velvet waffle cone. Not something to get all the time but certainly a destination spot worth a try!
I wish it was more guests friendly. maybe some tables outside or areas for customers since you cant be inside, by the time I walked to my car the ice-cream melted all over the place, not enjoyable . also I had to walk back to my car since I couldnt enter without a mask, I ask them for one and they had them but I would had to purchase them . I spent 25$ for 2 ice-creams I think they couldve offer a free one. not worth of going back .
I got the Messy Boba (soft serve + brown sugar syrup + fresh boba) and soft serve flavors were Hokkaido Strawberry and Melona Melon. Amazing! My husband got Taro/Purple Yam and Oreo from the ice cream buckets. Both were great but from now on I’m getting the soft serve only because the texture is amazing and the flavors are so unique! And I’ll add boba because it is the perfect partner to the ice cream! I thought the brown sugar syrup was a good but unnecessary when it’s already an expensive treat.
Great service great ice cream. Love their flavors that they have offer. Always pick up a pint to go while you are there! Will be back for sure!!
Soft serve was delicious and was enough for two! My boyfriend got the ice cream sandwich as well, and the bun texture was perfect. When we came in, it looked a bit busy with just two workers but they handled it well and were very nice! It was our first time here and they politely answered all of our questions about the different flavors.
The ice cream is good. The wait isnt. Twenty minutes standing outside to wait for a single scoop of ice cream is unacceptable, and they only tell you AFTER you pay. I complained about it after paying but there was no offer of a refund and no apology. The next customer to come out the door was complaining about exactly the same experience.I dont care how good the treats are, Im a one time customer. My recommendation is to skip it and find somewhere else to go .The owners responded to this after I posted saying theres nothing they can do about a long line. True, but they could tell the customers BEFORE THEY ORDER that theres a twenty minute wait. You try telling an excited seven year old who just picked an ice cream that he needs to stand around and wait outside for twenty minutes before getting his order and youll soon realize that its a situation you want to avoid. If customers want to wait for a great ice cream thats just fine, and many adults will. But have the decency to tell customers before they pay that theyll be waiting that long. And if the customers then seem upset maybe offer to cancel the order and refund them rather than just saying theres nothing you can do.So I guess Ill revise my review to say that yes the ice cream is very good. The service staff seem to be overwhelmed and flustered - one on cash and three behind the counter cant get out more than one ice cream every couple of minutes. It doesnt seem like it should take that long but perhaps its a very complicated process. All the more reason to warn customers when its busy. If you love trying interesting ice cream and dont mind standing around for it then by all means check it out. If youre with a child make sure you ask about wait times before you give them any money.
Didnt feel comfortable the first time I went, but willing to give it another shot 😐
They have THE best soft serve. I come here from Wisconsin often and I love their ever changing flavors. So fun and creative! My favorites would have to be either earl grey or white rabbit & raspberry pomegranate. Theres usually a line but its worth the wait.
🖤 deliciousPros1. Decor2. Flavors3. Black ice cones!
I got the Brown Sugar Boba tea with the caramelized cream cheese foam at the top. The milk tea tasted more like milk than tea. The boba was okay—didn’t seem the most fresh, and foam at the top didn’t taste like cream cheese at all. Maybe this is meant to be more of an ice cream shop than a milk tea shop or maybe the person who made the drink was new. I lovvve milk tea usually but the drink was such a disappointment.
I remember scoops was in this location, and I used to work across the street. The coffee alley. This place has a good selection of ice cream. I love the ice cream, been wanting to check out this place for years. I’m like 2 hours away from this location.
3.5 stars. honestly, i was pretty underwhelmed. the ice cream was good (not amazing), and so were the flavors, but i didnt find myself totally WOWED by anything. (through no fault of the place lol), the small size and covid made it necessary to wait outside in the heat when i went here, so that definitely didnt help -- my ice cream melted before i got to eat it! and the ice cream dripped through the containers. overall, over-hyped ice cream that is not worth the long wait (especially not in the heat). its not bad by any means, but like i said, just not worth it
Very good Asian flavored ice cream! Definitely on the pricey side but they know what they have. I loved taro soft serve but these flavors change over time. I prefer pandan for scoops.
KURiMU is full of such superbly, delicious flavour options, each my favorite!..especially the Durian and Black Sesame. 🙏🥰
Lot of intriguing options. Strawberry Lava drink tasted great. Customer service was good.
Finally got to try the softserve here. Love the variety and creativity in flavors of soft-serve and ice cream. A swirl with Ramune and Okayama peach is pictured here. I liked it because it wasnt too sweet. I look forward to going back to try the other flavours. If youre going around the time of this posting, bring a mask to go inside.
This place has some very unique flavors. I got the lavender rose ice cream and it was fantastic. Texture and taste were on point and the cone was crunchy enough that it didnt get soggy. Friendly staff as well.
No vegan options? Pretty much not being friendly to everyone. Go to Buzzed Bowel Creamery. They have options for everyone.
Very friendly staff! Delicious and interesting flavors for ice cream. My favorite is the Purple Yam! The ice cream stays creamy even after a week in the freezer. Thaw time for being scoop-able is short (maybe 10 minutes at room temperature).Their cones are a great in itself. Lightly sweet so it doesnt overpower any flavors. Crispy and crunchy.
Amazing!! Love the rotation of fun flavors for the two soft serve. All their ice cream is so nice and rich. Great flavors! The staff is nice and the wait is worth it. The collaboration with Aya Pastry was a fantastic idea and a lovely experience. I had the White Rabbit and Earl Grey soft serve swirl with boba and cream puff while my fiancé had the samoas pastry, topped with purple yam ice cream and chocolate shell. Superb! So sad this collab is over in a few days! Looking forward to future flavors and collabs.
Unbelievably good! If you are tired of old flavors and want to try new ones this is you heaven 😃 We tried Tiramisu and Lychee pear in cup and messy boba swirl both of then turned out to be great. I couldn’t get enough of Lychee pear it is a rare heavenly flavor that I tried in San Francisco but I didn’t find it in Chicago until I found it here
I was not impressed with them. I bought my mango flavor, it tasted like vanilla. Service was very poor, also you cant even eat it inside. I wont go back to this place. Id rather go to La Michoacana.
Quick and polite service. The strawberry lava was amazing, and the care bear stare had real coconut and fruit pieces. Im most definitely going back, I want to try the messy boba
Messy Boba! I will be back- really delicious and unique flavors.
Soft serve with a twist...and boba! Great soft serve flavors that rotate out, ice cream by the scoop, milk teas and ice cream pints to go. They have several fun cone flavors and you can even get your ice cream scooped into a melon bread as an alternative to the traditional ice cream sandwich. Especially loved the Messy Boba option with brown sugar syrup and boba added!
I’ve seen pictures of this place on IG and made it a point to stop by the next time I was in the area and it did not disappoint!! I normally am not a fan of matcha (it’s just ok) but I decided to get a soft serve twist cone with matcha and black sesame and holy cow was it good! Like really good. It seemed to melt pretty fast even though it was cold outside which forced me to eat it quickly. I also got a black sugar boba latte and it was also very delicious!! It tastes just like those brown sugar ice cream bars you can pick up at the Asian supermarket, I couldn’t really taste the coffee though but it was still creamy and full of awesomeness! The staff there was also very friendly and helpful. I am definitely coming back and getting both, but this time a whole matcha cone!
Kurimu really sets itself apart with inventive flavors for both the ice cream and its vehicle, whether that be a cone (in matcha, lavender, midnight vanilla and more flavors) or paired with a cream puff or pastry. The ice cream is a bit pricey, but definitely comparable to other gourmet ice cream shops in the city.
It was different, if you would like to try new flavors on ice cream this is the place
Staff is great! Super great vibe! Perfect for a summer walk. They get super busy so plan to wait!
Best ice cream/boba shop I’ve been to. Me and my friends are a one hour drive from the city but we make that commute happily every weekend to try out the new flavors. The place is beautiful- props to the designer- and their stuff is SO GOOD. They only have a couple flavors of boba since it’s more of an ice cream shop, but their brown sugar milk tea is so delicious that I don’t even care. Everyone needs to go here at least once.
Good but not a huge selection of flavors but what they have is pretty good.
I ordered the Taro Cloud which was very unsatisfactory as it tasted like chunks of sand floating in milk & when I asked if I could get a different drink they refused to refund me or allow me to exchange my drink. Terrible customer service—I will not be returning to this establishment.
The ice cream is so good and the flavors keep on changing which are good. This one has sweet peachish taste.
Friendly service, quality soft serve, and a nice addition to Taylor st.
Ice cream smooth but music too loud and hard to communicate with staff
Their matcha oreo ice cream is fantastic, and so is the plain matcha for that matter. I generally get those in a matcha cone.Ive been really unimpressed with the rotating soft serve flavors, though. Theyre overly artificial tasting, neon colored 🗑️
Small space so the line seems to be out the door quite often. The staff manages this quite well though. Got the Messy Boba swirl, was decent; incredibly sweet but thats the expectation! Will return to try more flavors.
I really wanted to like this place because it has all my favorite dessert gimmicks (gold foil, boba toppings, mochi toppings, toy cutlery) in one place, but the ice cream tastes terrible. We got the soft serve and a scoop from the freezer and both tasted super artificial. The bobas were great though: chewy, just the right sweetness.
Get the soft icecream. Best stuff ever
Coffee and chocolate flavour is so good.
Good place for tea and ice cream options.
Updated from five to four stars because of inconsistent quality. Loved the care bear stare but recent orders have been peppered with ice crystals sadly.
Soft server, purple yam, litchi ice cream so good!! One of the best places for ice creams. Nothing beats those ice creams.
Flippin delicious! I had the purple yam with Oreos and strawberry cheesecake in a midnight vanilla cone.
