Used to be able to buy stuff here. Seems like they want to focus on service only now and they dont have shelves with merchandise. At least I got a battery and wipers but I couldnt get battery terminal grease. Maybe only come here if you need auto service and not parts as it was really slow to get parts sold to us.
Took my car to get serviced here. Had to return the same day because they forgot to fill the tires with air as requested. Had to return the next day because check oil light was still on after they serviced it the day before. The staff is nice and friendly, it was just a hassle.
I was caught in a bad situation. Toyota performed an oil change service for me, and made a note on my document from the technician that they couldnt rotate my tires due to low tire tread. When got there to pick up my truck, the service center was closed. No one called, no one asked a question, nothing.I go check out my tire, and its completely bald. Considering I had to drive an hr and a half home on hwy 32, this was very DANGEROUS!Thank goodness Pep Boys was still open! When I called and explained, they agreed to take me in for new tires even though it meant staying open late.So grateful to a service team who actually cares!!Coming here for service day forward!Special thanks to service technician Manuel!
The good.... easy tire fix. Never having my car engine worked on here I can not speak to mechanics. As for the tire the service employee was patient and explained everything twice once to me and than again to my husband.The bad... there are many bays for cars but only a few are in use. There are cars in the bay that have been parked there for a very long time. Long enough for the leaves to pile up and dust to collect. The smell of tires is awful.
These guys are terrible! An 8 hour job turned into a vehicle being there for two days with almost no communication. I would never bring a vehicle back there. My husband has been waiting outside for hours after being told it would be ready this am and its now almost 2:00 and they havent even worked on it. He was told all they had to do was put the wheels back on etc. But he is STILL there waiting.
I believe Pep Boys is going out of business. Very low on staff. The guy that was working Steve he was a hard-working man. They were just understaffed. It was so busy too busy for one man. I just needed a battery. The wait was so long I left.
My son took his car in for an oil change. $400 later, they talked him in to new wires, and plugs and new tires(he didnt have them changed due to money)As a young adult he thought they were honest. He took his car to Les Schwab for tires, they laughed and said there is no way they would change the tires, because they werent needing changed.
I know they are in transit from auto store to an automobile tires and services business. But I didnt like their service dept. I will never bring my truck or car there again. Guys get your act together.

Go somewhere else, anywhere else. I took my car in for minor maintenance and when I picked it up they had popped one of my tires and messed up my alignment. My car never drove the same again and they gave me the run around and wasted more of my time “verifying” they hadn’t caused the damages... My car just coincidentally decided to stop working while it was in their shop. That’s not all, then they charged me twice the listed price for a part they pulled off the shelf and told me there’s a 200% markup to unbox and take it from the sales department to the garage.

Poor customer service. I was told my SCHEDULED service would take an hour. The actual work was about an hour. I was there over 3 1/2 hours and because of Covid the waiting area is closed. .
Aint nothin better than ordering online, getting the web online discount, and walking into the store and they have your parts ready to go. When you cant find the parts you need call pep boys or go to there website and they always have what you need
So today’s appointment went no where as planned. Disregard them telling me my car had leaks. I know about the leaks. I scheduled an appointment at 4. And my girlfriend went to have the oil changed. Very simple process.Upon getting there early. She was told she had to wait two hours and a half hours by Steven or whoever worked at the front desk. Now I don’t know how every other customer based business works. But if someone makes an appointment and shows up early. You don’t tell them they have to wait 2 or more hours when they took the time out of there day to schedule an appointment. On top of this. My girlfriend still had to wait almost 2 hours for the whole process to be done by David. Who apparently doesn’t know where to find a filter or hot to read a dipstick when he works for in the car repair and maintenance industry. I’m extremely upset that this took this long and that there war no further discount given and that my appointment wasn’t honored nor was my time or money to come so business here. And yes this will be the last time I do business here.
Needed a headlight replaced. Went on line last night and selected a time for today. The employees were friendly and efficient. Walked around the store for a few minutes and then my car was repaired and ready to go. Thank you Pep Boys! It was easy and painless. 😎
The service was kind and courteous, but one of the service personal said Youll be done in a hour. Took a little longer do to a influx of other vehicle maintenance request. But still realistically it went fast.
Mechanical service is fine but customer service has been terrible. One time I went the clerk i spoke to was literally high on marijuana I could smell it off him and his eyes were bloodshot and told me my car would be ready in less than an hour and that Id get a phone call to come get it. Waited 3 hours and came to the store to find out it had been ready 45 minutes after I left with no notice. Second time I go i just needed an oil change. Everything went smoothly and even got a phone call but it was 4 minutes before they close to tell me my car was ready and when I get there (walking) everything is shut down and gated and I couldnt get my car til the next day and was 2 and a half hours late to my job. Employees didnt seem to care too much about my major inconvenience. The work done here is acceptable but the service organization is a jumbled mess.

I went to leave my vehicle to get serviced and been having a rough week and I had Krysta help me out with paperwork.When asked for documents for my fleet company I only had the phone app, in the process of showing my card virtually she says she will need a physical card and I said well I can take a screenshot to send to her.Her reply was I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving you my number, I then said I don’t have to send it to your phone number, I can send it to your company email. (I was just trying to problem solve.)She then proceed to ask me what are some numbers that appeared in the card and that she might need them. I then replied to problem solve, you can weight the number on a sticky note separate paper., she rudely tells me I am just trying to be thorough here. LolI feel this particular employee needs to be retrained on how to find resolutions for her customers and be more professional on her wording or interaction with consumers.
I have been here numerous times and mostly, I was helped each time accordingly. I am on a extended installation of an amp and speaker in my MK6 GTI. I have everything set up but not connected because I have been waiting to get a add-a-fuse that will work for the remote wire for my amp. When I asked about running LED strips from my fuse box with an inline switch a while back, the guy at the counter had no clue about how to do what I was wanting to do which I thought was disappointing. But over all its a cool store as far as inventory and selection goes. I have found things that I needed throughout this project here that I could not find at other auto parts stores.
This place is horrible they could careless about people. Over 3 weeks to get a water pump replaced is insane. On top of having to repeatedly contact them about my car when I got it back it was filthy. They lie and make you wait hours for anything.

I was greeted by friendly auto parts lady, who was very helpful with helping me find the right parts for my car. She took the time and effort and even got so more help from one of her coworkers to help determine the best and correct parts for my car and to me that is great customer service, especially in time of the Covn-19 situation and people having to social distance from one another.
We were in Chico on a trip and ended up with a flat tire. Pep Boys was one of the few places open on a Sunday. Steve was very helpful and able to squeeze us in fairly quickly. Great customer service!
Literally the best auto repair experience Ive ever had. Took my van in expecting to not pick it up until 5ish. They had it done within less than 2 hours. Joe was courteous and professional. Will not hesitate to take care to them in the future!

My husband and I have been very loyal customers for the past 7 years. We have been very patient when we have had to wait for hours after we made an appointment, when Joe was incredibly rude and dishonest when I took my car in to have the battery replaced and when garbage was left in the engine after an oil change. After a recent oil change, my husband noticed the car was running differently, when he looked under the hood, he found the air filter hood was not latched and improperly placed in. Ever since Joe has been Manager, customer service has gone way down, work quality has gone way down and the way loyal customers are treated is terrible. We are taking our buisness elsewhere and will be recommending friends and family to stay away from Pep Boys in Chico. Very sad, I hope this is read and taken seriously, I have looked at you reviews and there are more 1 star reviews than any others. A lot of the 1 stars have been since Joe has become Manager.
Extremely slow service. Didnt even finish my tune-up after nearly 4 hours. Got sent home without an alignment.
Pep Boys has a friendly staff and nice waiting area when your car is being serviced. The waiting room has water, coffee, and a television. They keep you informed on what’s going on and they have a huge variety of products for your vehicle. I came in one evening in need of a new battery and these guys hooked it up. I appreciate their friendly and quick service.
Our daughter came in town from Reno. On the way her Subaru begain to over heat. As it was a Sat. we took her car to Pepboys. After takeing 6 hours to get it tested they said she had a blown head gasket and a cracked raidiator. Total cost to fix $4000. She left the car and rented one to get home. I took the car to a real mechanic to get a second opinion. His finding a bad radiator cap no blown head gasket or cracked radiator. Total cost for checking car, new cap, oril change and adding trans fluid $178. DONT TRUST PEPBOYS!
We have a life time on our trucks starter we bought from them and has never been a problem returning the old and getting a new one. Good service will keep coming back.

I dont know about their other services, but when it comes to tire/wheel alignments its probably best to go elsewhere. Bought the unlimited alignment because I thought it was a good deal. First time I brought it in they had to ask me what was wrong with the alignment. Second time was when I bought new tires. The place I bought it from said my alignment was off, so I figured I could just take it to pep boys and get it done free. After waiting an hour they told me the alignment was fine, but I knew it wasnt. Like I said, I dont know about their other services, but I wouldnt recommend going there for an alignment.
I paid almost $500 for an oil change, smog certification, and back brake replacement and resurface. I have no problems with the smog certification or oil change but pretty sure they did nothing to my brakes. They now make nose when I brake which didn’t happen before and the braking performance hasn’t changed. So now I have to find time to go to another shop and pay them to do what I already paid pep boys to do. This is also after I had an appointment at 2:30pm and didn’t get my car back until 8pm.
Great service provided by Daniel and Joe in Chico who did a complete engine change on our daughters car. They went above and beyond to ensure she was safe after all repairs had been completed. Highly recommended.

My old roommate Bill worked at pep boys.. Bill was the nicest guy ever, bless his heart.. An ex employee got drunk and went to pepboys and punched Bill in the face. Bill fell and got injured and died of a heart attack a week or so later.
5 stars for the guy that helped me. Totally didnt get his name but the receipt says cashier 476544. Tall dude long hair... Just a nice guy in a good mood at work. Cant say Im always in a good mood at work... And the rainX wipes work good inside on my windshield

I took my car in for a break inspection oil change and smog. The smog and oil change went well, but the break inspection was the real issue I was suspicious they were bad because of how far you had to push the break in. They confirmed my worries but I decided I would have them fixed on another date. Thank god I didn’t have them fix it because apparently they can’t even inspect the breaks without breaking them I got my car back and they were stiff for some reason took it to another shop that I was referred to and found out they broke my master cylinder now I have to pay 1600 dollars to get it fixed plus the initial break replacement I was warned to never take my car here and I wish I had listened Please don’t make the same mistake go anywhere else.

Amazing! I use to go to Walmart but they have an in and out attitude when it comes to oil changes. Pep Boys go far beyond just the oil change! They checked all my tires, air filter, and even pointed out that I had a leak on my vehicle! The BEST place to get your oil changed!
If I dont find what Im looking for, then theyll order it. People are pretty knowledgeable too

Came in early to beat the Saturday rush. Everyone was ready to help! Great service, quick and friendly through the whole process. The service dept had me back on the road in no time! And stayed true to their Pep Boys warranty on my battery. Travis was quick and very professional with the install. The gentlemen up front were courteous and answered every question. Slow but good service
I visited this service after experiencing and punctured tire while passing by near Chico. The Pep Boys has a courteous and efficient staff. Getting me back on the road quickly, after repairing the puncture.
Very disappointing. I showed up on Thur after work hoping to get my car smogged. The gentlemen behind the desk was pretty annoyed that I was even asking to get my car smogged and said his smog guy was to busy. As I walked away he could tell I was frustrated by his communication, he offered to make me an appointment for Sunday to make up for his lack of customer service. Sunday comes around and I get there 15min early hoping they would take my car early. That was wishful thinking, as the first words about of the front desk staff was their smog guy was behind schedule and it would be at least an hour for a 15-20 minute procedure. An hour and half later still waiting. I go outside and see my car sitting in the finished area for who knows how long, while two employees where standing next it smoking a cigarette!!I talked to the front desk and my car was ready. What’s the point of making an appointment if you don’t honor it. How many reviews talking about appointments that weren’t met does it take before you actually make some changes? If your service department experiences high volume on the weekends, why not staff for it? Poor Krysta was behind the service desk all by herself having to manage the all customers in line, field all the phone calls, and communicate with all the mechanics coming and going while three employees at the parts desk where hanging out shooting the breeze.Overall a really disappointing first experience at the Chico Pep Boys.
This place is busy every time I go in there its hard to find someone to help right away because they are already helping other customers. They were very friendly and did a great job siding me what was wrong with my vehicle to ensure that I knew what they were repairing. They took the time to look at the car and advise me of the repairs that need to be done and called me before they proceeded with any extra work.
I contacted Pep Boys due to a local recommendation.I made an appt. for a diagnostic, I showed up on time, only to be told my diagnostic MIGHT take all week to perform, if they could fit me in. Why did I make an appointment, just to be ignored?My recommendation is that you AVOID PepBoys, because they do NOT deliver the service, and now I doubt their results would be valid, anyway.

I have bought parts from Pep Boys in the past and had them installed by their service dept. Quality has always been high and service fast. This is the first time I have had them do lube and oil change and I received the same quality service. I will continue to trust them with the care and service to my vehicle.
Nice staff, but 12.5 hrs to do rear brakes and tune-up. Made appointment but still waited the first day 3.5 hrs for them to start. Total wait time was 9hrs/2days. Corporate model doesnt provide enough staffing to answer phones. Its a waste of time to call and then get caught in voicemail hold loop. Text to Customer Service function shown on wall poster doesnt work. I was offered a $10 gift certificate, which I find insulting, when I wasted 2work days, and the original issue still exists.
Made appointment noon on Monday to have car A/C checked out. 105 degrees. Checked car in on time. Service rep said it may be a while. Left car. 6 hours later after 3 calls to talk to a living body I was told the tech and service rep went home for day. I went to Pep boys and the car was not serviced and the rep at the desk had no clue on status of my car.Drove home totally dissatisfied. Would not recommend this store for service.
I travel back and forth between Redding and Marysville for work approximately three to four times a week on my way back one night at 6:45 in the evening I had a bolt pop out of the rubber undercarriage of my car the guys at the Chico California pep boys were so nice and professional all the way down from when I called in to speak with somebody about it and up to working me in for a quick repair even though there store was really busy.I listened while I was waiting and they seem to really care about each and every customer that had a variety of issues. Thank you pep boys guys for fixing my car quickly and being sincere and professional.
I only go here for my car maintenance and repair. I like having all my car records in one place. They are reasonably priced and show me why something needs repairs. If it takes a long time they drive me home to wait there. If it is a fast job their waiting room is fine. They even have a TV.
This place is amazing!! The customer service was amazing and the service technicians went above and beyond with helping my boyfriend and I replace a part and then fix my car!!! The technician was very dishonest to cook part my radiator water hose got fluid all over my car and tried to charge me for a part that I did not need. I took my car to the Toyota place just to find out that Pep Boys staff members were very dishonest just because Im a female doesnt make me stupid!
They returned my car after an alternator and serpentine belt replacement without reattaching the mud flaps or the front bumper. I’m giving it a 2 star rating because I want to be fair and say the car runs and I was glad to get it back a day early. I will never use them again if I can help it.
They have a pretty good selection of car audio (which is mainly what I go there for)but they dont have quite everything like for example wire they dont carry spools of wire that you can cut specific links off of also they were limited in their electrical knowledge in helping me with a project on my VW golf installing LED strips so that was kind of frustrating rating but overall I love it at pep boys its a good store and the staff is quite helpful and friendly.
Pep boys was great, they are slow but they do good work and are fair.
Dropped my car off at 9am for a simple oil change. By 6pm they were closing, I went by to get my car and they say they couldnt get to it. This comes in the heels of them offering to sell me non synthetic oil, which my car should not have, and them calling me to accuse me of not dropping off my keys, which I did, they just misplaced them. They were already about $20 more for the oil change, but I will never ever go back given their incompetence and unprofessionalism.
Do not leave your car here overnight or over the weekend. They did not lock our car. According to them, they leave the car unlocked during business hours. There are a lot of transients in that area and we had several things stolen. No one was paying attention and no cameras facing that area from what we saw. Our car was completely ransacked. It was Pep Boys fault because of their negligence.
Excellent customer service! I had a little emergency this morning with my Jeep, the right front brake locked up on me while I was on the freeway. I drove straight to Pep Boys to have it looked at. Within minutes i was informed what the problem was. They told me how much time and money it was going to be and that the parts were available to do the job immediately. Before I knew it I had a team of good men and women handling my unexpected mechanical issue and I was on the road and at work well before lunch time. Way to go guys! I personally will not go again or suggest to friends or family. We had an appointment for 1030am, they did not even begin to work ( head light installation) on the car until 444pm after I called to inquire.. when brought to the attention of Sergio he explained it like a doctors office with having 45 patients (cars) in front of the appointment.. we also brought up the price quote offered to a friend recently ( same car, same job) and why over a $100. Dollar difference Sergio only offered the amount of time and how much an hour, not answering the real question.. 2 star experience here is for the 10%off coupon by a friend that was expired and Sergio honored coupon and added an additional 5% off for the time it took to service the car.. I did tell Sergio he was aggressive in answering our questions (or lack of answering) .. SO, I would not suggest Pep boys, unless you can wait all day for your vehicle ( so they can attend to the other 45 car ) or a aggressive employee/ supervisor..
I went there for a new battery and came out with my air conditioning working at half the power it used to before and my car still has the Check Charge System warning. I paid good money, I expected the work done on it to be good.
I go in to have my tires checked, I thought I felt a possible bump. I give the young man my keys. He says hell check it out. Fast forward over an hour. I get up to stretch. Another young man looks at us and says, He should be back from lunch in a few minutes, hell get your car up on the lift when he gets back. Are you kidding me.? What kind of customer service is that.? I will NOT be going back there again. Definitely wont buy another set of tires from them.

Dont order online and expect it to arrive when its supposed to. Ordered Next Day on Tuesday, tracking says Saturday by 8PM? Called and chatted in and was told oh well, not their fault. No attempt to make customer happy whatsoever. My first order from pep boys, lesson learned.
I made a appointment with them there only time was at 7PM I drove to chico from red bluff with my kids to get all my tires replaced and was told they couldnt do it no one was there to change them. There were plenty of workers standing around doing nothing. The lady at the desk told me I could come back the NEXT morning. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!!Very disappointed in the customer service
I go in this particular location often, the staff is very helpful in getting you what you need even if they have to order it. My one HUGE complaint is they do not have nearly enough people working there day to day. They really need to get more employees.
These people are crooks and dont disclose what is needed before you can pass smog. They just charge you and then tell you oh by the way you need to drive 20 min before showing up and oh yah, by the way, you cant have a new battery for the last few weeks or it wont pass either. they will go ahead and sit on the machine for an hour and take your full price and then tell you it didnt pass. These poor college kids are being taken advantage of.
What is the point of making an appointment if it is still going to take over 1.5 hours to even start. We make appointments for our convenience. It completely defeats the purpose.
I needed a power steering hose for my truck. I looked online to see who had one in stock, now I know just because it says it is in stock does not mean it really is, but you have to start somewhere, they had one. I went to town( I live 40 min from town) the next day to Pep Boys and asked for a hose. He looked it up and said Hey I have one in stock! And went to get it. Comes back and said, Nope, none in stock, I can order it, be in tomorrow afternoon. I told him I live out of town and would be back on Wednesday, I showed up on Wednesday and asked for my part, none in stock! He said it looked like it was never ordered. He said it may still be on the pallet, he will look and call me back if he finds it. He called but did not leave a message so I found one in stock at a different auto parts store!
The lines never too long, the associates are customer service efficient & knowledgeable in their field, the parking lot is huge, but not open on every side so your vehicle is safe while youre at the counter & its well lit at night. Their prices are competitive as well as their warranties. The shop is strategically centrally located in town respective to map locations of Chico, and if your ride has to spend the night you can easily get back home by bicycle/public transportation as there are On-line & County Ride stops on both sides of the street. If your there for only a few hours, there are plenty of places within walking distance (some right across the street) that cater to your fare of choice. I think a major bonus for armchair mechanical enthusiasts, like me (lol) is the local Harley Davidson dealer is only 50 feet south!!!
They may do everything for less but they take far longer doing it. Called and made an appointment for a simple oil change. Arrived on time, checked in, did the paperwork. An hour later they come in to inform me that they are just now servicing my car. About the same time, they tell the person who arrived at the same time as me for an oil change (without an appointment) that her car was done. Interesting concept. Shouldnt appointments come first? And then my car was finally ready 45 minutes later. An hour and 45 minutes for an oil change after making an appointment and being told it would be half an hour. Never going back.

I have had the misfortune of needing two major repairs on my car in the last six months and both times Pep Boys not only fixed my car in the same day...but identified another serious problem and was resolved quickly.Pep Boys arranged for a tow truck for me and it was 2/3s less in price then anywhere else. Pep Boys made my car peppy again. Cheers
Pep Boys is great if your check engine light is on. They offered to get me the code, free of charge. They must be doing well here, they are booked out 6 days in advance.
