The weekly food box subscription is such a neat concept. My husband and I are cooking more often now and with vegetables we would never have chosen at the grocery store.If you dont like or are allergic to something in the box, they will allow you to substitute items.I definitely recommend giving it a try!The only downside is that their pickup hours dont start until noon.

They have a pretty good variety of stuff for being so small. I even found some cool drink-mixing sets I was able to give as a Christmas gift to my siblings. Plenty of interesting things to choose from on top of the basics!

I subscribed to the barnyard and bounty box. I’ve been highly disappointed. A lot of the produce looks bad when I pick it up. I have to cook many things immediately. Well, the produce is supposed to be for the week. I assumed I would be getting premium produce, meat, and dairy for a premium price, but I feel as though I’m getting the produce that can’t be sold in stores due to imperfections and spoiling . . . at a premium price. I have received poor customer service as well. I was told I’d receive two broccoli heads with my last order, for example. I only received one, and when I called, the lady was like, “well, the woman who said that misspoke, or the head of broccoli was so big we only gave you one, or, or . . .” Okayyyy, lady! I get it! You don’t want to help your customer. No worries. I won’t be one for long! The “policies” at the store are different every time I go to the store. I could go on, but you get my point. It’s been an overall bad experience and I wish I lived near St. Charles so I could be part of the CSA my friend belongs to, but alas, it will be the farmers market for me. I understand now why this business was failing a few years ago.

This is a great little grocery store. I love all the local options and Ive found things here I cant find in larger stores. Their weekly boxes are great too, I love the items it introduces me to and the recipes they include with the boxes. Its helped me try things I may not have otherwise.

The food/product is high quality, all organic & some of its local. All things I love. But the few times Ive visited I havent seen anyone use a scale to correctly price the vegetables by pound or ounce & the receipts arent itemized. Im glad to recommend their local selections, but all I purchase here anymore are the sticker priced items & local meat.

Horrible customer service. Was charged 3 times when I started the subscription, it took the manager a month to even email me back after talking to the store associates. During that time I requested my boxes be put on hold until I heard back from the manager. Every time I called I could only speak to an associate who said they would put a note on my file. When I last reached out to the manager she said she had no record of any notes on my file and did not refund me the boxes or money. She did not even apologize for the inconvenience, the inconvenience of being out over $100 because of their lack of communication. Nor did she ever call me even when I specifically requested she call me. Completely unacceptable customer service.

Were enrolled in the weekly food box program; we receive the Plowmans Box. Every week we are surprised at the excellent quality of the products and great it is to have a place like this. The Root Cellar is doing the right things and if youre looking to get produce and other agricultural products that are low impact on the Earth while increasing your health, look no further! I think my favorite part is how every week we get a newsletter with recipes I would never do, but every time I try them out and they work so well! Their recommendations are superb.

Love this place, great place to get a little of everything you need

We get a Bounty Box through the summer. It is a great way to support local farms and get a variety of fresh produce. The staff is very helpful. Not always a great place if you are in a hurry as the check out can get backed up with just a few customers.

Root Cellar is great! Most of their selection is locally sourced, and the owners, Jake and Chelsea, are incredibly knowledgeable. Whether you have questions about local producers, wine and beer, or how to prepare a new vegetable from one of their weekly CSA boxes (which I also highly recommend), they will almost certainly have the answer.

Great place to pick up local fruits and vegetables. You can even get different cuts of meat that are local. But of course it’s overpriced like most things that are local

FRESH and LOCAL! This place only carries Missouri raised meat and local veggies. They also have a small pantry for quick grab organic grocery items. We purchase a box every week. It never disappoints.

Great selection of local products from produce to meats to dry goods. If you are someone who cares about buying locally or sustainably this is the only place in Columbia to shop.

The Root Cellar offers great Missouri produced food boxes on a weekly schedule. The food is fresh and delicious.

Hyper local, organic food from all around Columbia area. Great location, clean, easy access and wonderful service. Get yourself some Missouri black walnuts ASAP!
