Great locally owned record store. Perfect sized inventory to either stay awhile or drop by. Displays make it easy to see top selections. Nice selection of new and used records. Made it a point to stop by while visiting Dallas after seeing their Tik Toks. They sell some amazing store and Oak Cliff swag. The this whole area of Oak Cliff is fun. Lots to do.

I just got done speaking on the phone with the sweetest girl ever (Kate)!! She really went above and beyond trying to look up a record for me to see if they had it in stock and then even went out of her way to see if if the band had records out yet since we were unsuccessful. Absolutely adore her and how helpful, kind, and positive she was. (:-Heather

Ive bought a few dozen records at Spinster over the years. Friendly people. I collect a lot of music and am generally eager to support the local record stores. There are issues with the shop that keep me from going more frequently.First, the stock turns over at a glacial pace. I didnt go for the first six months of the pandemic, and their used vinyl bins were full of the same albums Id picked over on my last visit. Which, given the pandemic, would be forgivable, except that they were selling the same stock six months before that, and a year before that. Ill always buy something, but for a while now, that is often just to be polite. The new vinyl selections trend pop rock. Few small labels are represented. All good, but not what I would pay a premium for.Second, their prices are bonkers expensive. New vinyl runs 150% its standard price. Used record markups run even higher. For example, for months they were (probably still are) selling a copy of Donald Byrds Places and Spaces for $50 (or, the going, top shelf discogs price). Visibly scuffed vinyl. Sleeve in poor condition. $50. I have two copies of the same album, both bought from record shops in the last five years, for $6 and $8, both in VG+ condition.Third, Spinster doesnt grade vinyl. It is just new and vintage. Vintage meaning the full spectrum from mint to should-be-in-a dollar-bin. Ive brought home a few discs with playback affecting blemishes, even with careful inspection. Replacing the inner sleeve is a nice touch, but the quality of the record and sleeve needs to be factored into pricing. Every serious record seller grades their vinyl. All told, Im not sure what the target audience of Spinster is. It is not the deejays and record collectors of the world. Perhaps down to Earth pricing would increase volume, turn the bins over more frequently, and inspire customers like me to come digging regularly.

I love this place! The staff is very nice and helpful. And if you don’t see what you’re looking for just ask David the owner he might have it on their warehouse or he would get it for you. One time I was looking for the original Star Wars soundtrack and he was able to get it for me and when I say original I mean like the 1977 a little bit washed out original soundtrack and it was way cheaper than what you can get it on eBay.

I love this place. Sometimes I feel like the used vinyl is overpriced. In some situations you could end up paying more for a used vinyl than a new re-issued version on Amazon. I understand if it is an early pressing or something, but for someone who just wants to listen to the album, Im going to buy a new re-issued version of it on Amazon for $19.99 before I buy a used early pressing of the same album for $24.99 in the store. But thats just me. When it comes to new copies of vinyl, I will always show this local independent business love over Amazon and pay higher prices for the new copies.

She was probably my favorite part of the experience. Wish Id gotten her name. Don’t ever order any records on their website. I had the option to have it delivered or picked up. If the store doesn’t even have the record in stock to begin with why would there be an option for pick up in the first place? The manager apologized and said that was on him. A few days later I went on the page and the record was still available for purchase, so nothing had been done about it. I placed my order Oct 10th it’s November 4th. The record was supposedly ordered from Big Tyme Records in Houston. I’m in Dallas it shouldn’t have taken this long for me to receive my record. The only reason I’m giving you one star is because I got my refund the same day I wrote this and sadly I couldn’t give you half a star.

I really want to love this place. The staff is great, they put on shows, its got the look and feel of a record store--its a jewel for music junkies in the Oak Cliff area. The only problem is that the dont sell many records! And theyre all lumped together alphabetically. Not by genre. Because there arent enough records on the floor to warrant that kind of system. Used and new vinyl are not always separated either. You really cant go in there looking for a record and expect to find it. Its more for people browsing with not much in mind. For me, the record browsing is not much different than what youd expect at a vintage/thrift store. For a brick and mortar record store that has the look and feel of a music lovers haven, this place needs to increase their inventory to keep neighborhood folks like me who like vinyl coming back.

Spinster is a bright and cozy curated space for vinyl lover’s. You may not find everything your looking for, but anything you do find should be worth more than a listen. I love the moments of a found sea of endless rows of undiscovered wavelengths packaged in your favorite media storage preference everything from A-Z. Spinster is not that.It is the soulful, the unique, the masterful, the all the music I wish I heard when I was younger. Digging through the repurposed wine boxes I discover that music history has been rewritten. Yes you find the time tested mainstream greats of the last century. The best records you will walk away with are those you hadn’t yet heard and those that the staff know so much about. The music you find at Spinster is the music David and his staff enjoy, and they have very good taste!

Spinster Records has a lot of good albums to find and all of the albums (mostly records, as described by the businesses name obviously) are well organized. However cassette albums are either hit or miss but I wouldnt mind that much. In addition they also sell vintage turntables and cassette decks depends on their inventory. The owner (I suppose) is very welcoming and knowledgeable. I have purchased a good quality cassette deck from here and so far I am extremely satisfied.

I just returned from a Christmas holiday visiting my son & family in Oak Cliff. Having been in the high end consumer electronics business for more decades than I care to (or can) remember, I was pleased but a little skeptical when they told me they were going to a local record store to buy a turntable. Was I surprised to see a Music Hall turntable on the wall right inside the front door! I know they make great performing & great value entry high end gear. After a few questions, Kate enthusiastically & knowledgeably steered them right to it. It wasnt long before my 9 year old grandson & I were home dancing to Michael Jacksons Thriller. Well done, Kate. Good record offerings, both new and used, too. Well done Spinster!

I was in Dallas for work and, truth be told, I popped in to Spinster primarily to use the restroom facilities, with intent to lend a courtesy browse in case something caught my eye.. and, boy, was it caught. Im not much of a collector, yet I spent over an hour sifting and flipping their modest, but thorough selection. Left with half-a-dozen 7in and three 12in, ranging from classic rock to motown, classical and techno. While small, it certainly appeared the buyers were thoughtful about most of the stock, and it seemed like there was something there for everyone.Bonus: I want to thank Kate for her no-pressure help, and her tip on where to find a good boogie on a Thursday night! This is my first time rating a business. I’m hesitant because I’ve worked for small businesses and I know how hard it can be. First off, the young lady behind the counter was amazing. Very nice and sweet. Offered a water as soon as my mother and I walked in. The two star rating isn’t about her. The problem I have is with the offer I was given for my records. I am used to 1/3 to 1/4 of what Discogs lists based on condition with a slightly higher trade value. The owner (Dan or Dave) here said he pays a quarter for records he sells for $6. For records he sells for $10 her offers $.50 and so on. I’ve never seen a record store try to make 20x on records before. It’s unethical in my opinion and I feel bad for any poor little old lady that walks in with a record collection and isn’t informed enough to walk away. To the owner, if you’re reading this, please know that you can still run a profitable business without these practices. I hope you change how you buy, because we want businesses like yours to succeed, especially in this area.

Overpriced and unknowledgable and clueless staff.Do not go here if your looking to sell your records. I went there looking to sell a stack of about 15 records, each of them in the hundred dollar range, some in the mid hundred dollar range. The first gal that helped me out took a good 30 minutes examining the records. Another gal showed up and informed me that they typically buy records for 1 - 2 dollars a pop. The gals then compared my records with what they were going for on Discogs, this took another 20 minutes. After checking discogs they offered me 35 dollars, the reason being is because were “niche records” that would be difficult to sell. I found this very odd as the girls working were listening to Mazzy Star and I had a Japanese pressing of David Robacks (of mazzy star) Rainy Day in the collection. I am still puzzled as to why they would even check prices on Discogs because they offered me what they typically buy records for, 1 - 2 dollars a pop. In my 20 years of collecting/shopping at record stores, Ive never been to a shop with such such inexperienced employees. A pretty face doesnt make you an expert on records.I ended up taking my records to Josey Records and got offered $500 dollars, the price I was expecting to get over at Spinster.
