I buy one of their coffee shop drinks whenever I go there, and there are places to sit with them on all of the upper floors when I shop for something there. I bought a 1928 Underwood Standard Portable Typewriter there, that because of light use was still in very good usable condition. Ill learn to take it apart and service it myself, when I get another like it to practice repairs on.
I come in here every time I am in Des Moines. It has always had really high prices, but it seems they are pricing vintage furniture the same as like-kind new furniture. That’s fine, but I know they bought it for maybe a tenth of new prices at a garage sale. Many of the things are in great condition, but even the pieces that are not are very expensive. I know everyone wants vintage now, so I suppose it is supply and demand. Great to browse around in any case.
We travel from Texas to visit my wifes dad each year in Iowa and always wanted to stop here. Enjoyed watching the show on TV and wanted to see it in person. Its a very unique experience. Not at all what I expected. Floor after floor of amazing things to see. We spent the better part of the day just wandering around in here. The variety of odds and ends is pretty cool. Definitely worth a visit if you are in or around the area. I think my favorite things here were all the stained glass they had. Plus all the unique things they build.
I am the owner of The DJ Music Man out ofAmes and I had the great pleasure of DJing a wedding here on Friday. This was my first time here and I wanted to give a shout out to the wonderful staff, they were so friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere in this place is amazing!!! I highly recommend them for any event.
It didnt quite have what we were looking for but it had alot of random and unique items.
Such a COOL place!Intersting finds though we decided against the examining table🤣😎
This is such a fun place to visit. 4 floors of treasures. The staff is very helpful but doesnt follow you around. Nice coffee bar on the main floor. Great parking. The 4th floor is a treasure grove of just the right pieces to finish your project and bring it to the next level.
What an amazing place. Beautiful pieces and great coffee. A really fun way to spend a morning. Thank you guys for a great experience.
Very nice people, kind and fun
Lots of really unique pieces, very friendly staff and a great coffee shop.
Beautiful. So many neat thing to see and make a wish list.
Very friendly, great coffee
So, just left this amazing place. My buddy lives across the street. Heres why this place is more like a museum than anything else.
Fun date place. Can spend hours wandering through there and looking at all the interesting history while sipping coffee.
Definitely great place for historical and modern edgy style
Super cool store with many unique peices
Great place! The workers are really nice! Great customer service! I went there around last December just exploring Iowa when I walked in and so went to have a cup of hot cocoa. They also had so delicious home made club sodas. You could mix flavors together(pro tip mix vanilla and Carmel)! Like I said before GREAT PLACE!!!!!$
I love this place, If you have the money you could have some one of a kind art they have curated or a piece of salvaged p art or piece of architecture.
We traveled from Eden Prairie, MN to Des Moines just to see West End Architectural Salvage. No plans to buy anything. We were greeted after a couple of minutes and had the floor layouts explained to us. Everyone there is so friendly and you can tell they love what they do. We ended up wanting to buy 5 items that we loved. We cut the list down to 3 and purchased those items because thats all that would fit in the SUV. This place is very clean, well lit and easy to shop. Every item has a price tag on it. I cant say enough about this establishment or its people. FIRST CLASS and a lot of fun!!!Thanks!!
I love this place, we just had our wedding reception at West End Salvage. I cannot say enough about the great staff. From the moment we walked into browse, to see if this was the venue for us. Don and his staff were amazing. They were so accommodating to every want and need. The bar staff was completely on their game, and took great care of us. We had so many compliments on what a neat venue it was and fun the night was. Don and his staff make magic happen! I will be recommending them to anyone and everyone who needs to hold an event.
By far the coolest place in iowa i have been to amazing
Awesome selection and service.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this wonderful downtown treasure. After a nice chat with a gentleman who made me a wonderful hot cocoa. Thanks Cy! He offered me a place to hang my coat. And explained the layout. I was then left to explore at my leisure with drink in hand. This place is amazing! So much to see and dream how it would fit in at home. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you have a idea what you’re looking for. Or simply want to wander on a cold winters day. West End Architectural Salvage has you covered!
Me and my wife stopped in while visiting Des Moines this past weekend. I had watched their show when it was on TV and really liked it. As we were about to leave we saw the owner (Don) so I stopped to say hi and that I enjoyed the show. Don was so friendly, he even took us over to the shop and showed us the stuff that they were currently building. It was so nice to meet Don and how he went above and beyond, I expected to talk for a minute but he made it a memorable visit.
Sorry, but we had a very unfortunate experience last weekend. I sent two of my employees there to visit and see how you do things. I had told them how innovative your company is and so they made a special trip of 200 miles or so Saturday and spent the night at a motel to be there at noon on Sunday. They had checked the website and even called your company to be certain that you would be open and were informed by the lady who answered the phone that indeed you were going to be open tomorrow- Fathers Day. After waiting in the parking lot with several other cars for 20 minutes or so for noon to arrive, they went to the door to find a small, handwritten sigh that said Closed to spend Fathers Day with our fathers. No one would begrudge family time---but do it right. Post it on your website and inform your employees.
When arriving we were met by an employee. He listened to what we were interested in finding! He escorted us up to the 4th floor and took us to the area for the salvage hunt of floor trim and window headers! He didnt stop there, he helped us dig. After a half hour we found our treasures! We are very pleased with our find. West End Salvage is a very organized store and I would recommend it for any unique find!
I want to like it more but every time I go there for coffee, my mocha tastes like just straight coffee. The place is pretty and the people are friendly, but the wares are hilariously overpriced. Theyre nice pieces, sure, but I cant imagine spending a hundred dollars or more on a scratched up table advertised as an antique when you can sooner find one for a couple of bucks at Goodwill. Are people really desperate for that vintage look nowadays? Anyway, I suppose itd be a fun meeting place; they look like the sell wine so thats cool too.
I held my wedding reception at West End Salvage and I have nothing but good things to say. In addition to being a comfortable and cool venue, Denise and her staff were incredibly easy to work with and took care of all the little things so that my family and guests could simply relax and enjoy ourselves. Extremely professional and pleasant. I may have to get married again so that I can repeat the experience!
A very interesting place to visit. Gives you ideas. You need to go back often as architectural items change weekly and good items sell fast. Nice place. Great owners.
Its so great my Grandson Thomas ask to go back yesterday. Lots of treasures to look for in antiques for your home. Doors with knobs, Metals to work with, table and chairs. Area for your next business meeting or get together with friends for drinks, coffee drinks, a snack. Fun come and visit.
Great place to browse, have coffee or have an event! Did I mention that they also repair and restore furniture?! They did a job for me fast and beautifully! Highly recommend!
The place is gorgeous, its great for events and its so interesting to walk around. Plus the staff is really helpful and they are so creative with the pieces that they create for homes and offices. Its definitely a must-see place if you visit Des Moines or if you live here and have never gone, youve got to make a plan to stop out.
Furniture, lighting, architectural pieces on three floors. And a great place to have coffee or host a party. Love this place!
We had a BLAST at West End Salvage last week! There were treasures everywhere and the prices were very reasonable. The employees were so friendly and encouraged us to grab the stars of the TV show for pictures! I could have walked through the different floors of stuff forever and not seen everything. I will definitely be going there every time I visit Iowa.
Wide and curated selection of picked and found antiques, which is nice. The expensive ones are of good quality. Coffee is pretty decent, too. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Great place to grab a drink and browse some cool historical pieces and find some inspiration.
Excellent place to visit. Its kind of an antique shop on steroids. Lots of things that you wouldnt see at a normal antique shop. Its one of the places I bring out of town visitors when we go downtown. They also have a nice coffee shop. Ive had an alumni get together there which was fun. Older folks would definitely enjoy this place, as would history lovers in particular. They have a TV show thats based on their business... I think its on DIY Network.
We had our couples shower here and everything was fantastic! The venue was PERFECT, the staff was incredible, and I can’t begin to say how easy they made the day for us. If you’re looking for a place to host an event, this is it! Even the price was reasonable!
This is the best cafe in Nottingham. The aroma as you enter the coffee shop and the quality of the coffee and whole leaf tea is fantastic! They also have great muffins and cakes to go with the hot drinks- would highly recommend!
I wish we had a place like this in my town! Its amazing - lots of places to sit, excellent coffee menu and tons of beautiful merchandise. If I lived in Des Moines Id be here all the time.
Haven’t been there but I like the way pictures pop up. Do you guys have fb page also? I’ll scope it out stay warm! I’m freezing so too far north for a road trip for now...What did Martha Stewart like?
An amazing selection of architectural wonder!
This place is a MUST SEE in Des Moines. They are well-known and for good reason - they carry an incredible amount of antiques from tables and chairs to glassware, parts of airplanes, chandeliers, and so much more. I once saw a cow hide covered full bedroom set there! People from all over send their old stuff to West End and they stage it beautifully across their FOUR floors! Yes, there is that much to look at! If you are looking for unique pieces to outfit your home with, definitely look here. Even if you dont buy anything youll still enjoy looking around. They also operate as a coffee shop by day and wine/event venue by night. I enjoy bringing my laptop and working there (just like Starbucks, but a more unique/authentic atmosphere). Once a year, they put on an event called Indulge - a Wine, Cheese, and Chocolate Affair to which Ive been going the last 2 years. This event always sells out so get your tickets online early. Its just like it sounds - you enjoy wine, cheese, and chocolate goodies as you shop. Its fabulous. And the staff is top notch. Nothing but friendly and helpful. Love this place, and cant wait to go back soon! Cheers!
Very impressed. I know you will like lots of antiques and be inspired. Recommend to go to this cool place.
Very beautiful! Was at a private event & we were able to walk around the entire building to view everything. Wanted to buy all of the unique items!
Very nice interesting place. Very friendly service, coffee was fantastic and the antique/vintage items are reasonably priced with outstanding selection. I will be going back for sure.
We recently had our wedding reception here and Don and his entire team were incredible to work with! They were very accommodating of our needs, the place looked phenomenal, and they helped us throw one hell of a party for our guests. I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding reception or party.
Just love drinking coffee and talking down there. So many cool piece of furniture made from beautiful hardwood and old metal gadget thingies
Definitely stop in here! It looks so cool inside, full of treasures. There is a cafe you can purchase coffee, tea, beer and wine I believe. Also a great place for events
Christmas party hosted here. Fantastic to break up the evening with 3 floors of everything you can imagine. A great time
Fascinating place, something to pique the interest of everyone you know. Especially Happy to have found the unique Silver fork bracelets as Christmas gifts this year. Nice wine bar and ambience.
Four floors or antiques and unique salvaged materials as well as custom pieces made with salvaged items. Nice cafe/beverage counter serving coffees, sodas, and liquors with limited snacks. Would not be easy to navigate with a stroller or wheelchair.
Has some neat remade items but nothing we couldnt live without. Prices were simply outrageous. We only did 2 of the 4 floors because prices were so high.
Very cool furniture built from reclaimed material. Its fun to explore the four floors of history.
This place is FULL of beautiful and AMAZING things. The people that work there are incredible. I highly recommend this place. You will love it.
Love this place, catered a wedding here and it was a very special and unique place to have a wedding ceremony but honestly the couple saved a ton on decor Brevard the place is so beautiful already. Also a great place for a first date!
Love this place! So many cool things to look at and buy for your home. Nice that they have a coffee barista to make you something to drink while you shop.
So much fun to explore ALL the floors full of Unique & Awesome salvage & Antiques! A must for anyone who wont settle for cookie cutter decor.
Was looking at here for a place for a wedding venue. Overly expensive for the fact they leave all their merchandise out in the way during a wedding. Also they refuse to allow you to bring in your own alcohol and you have to pick from a select group of their caterers.
They have tons of stuff if your restoring your house or looking for cool vintage stuff. Owner I met was great help
They were very accommodating with our fund raiser. Great place for an event
As an antique junkie, Ive been dying to come here. I finally made it, and it did not disappoint - this place is heaven! So many floors filled with some cool finds and repurposed furniture. I think I was most impressed by the amount of quality antiques and the variety from different eras.
Great place to have an event. Friendly and attentive staff. Lots to look at and buy if you are so inclined.
I loved this place. With so many floors of items, youd have to spend a day just to really see everything. I cannot wait to go back.
Great place to see cool history. I feel like many of their things are over priced, but I am sure they have a lot of overhead in that great old building.
Expensive but always fun to rummage for a unique item and they have a constant supply. Very friendly and helpful staff. Dont overlook the lower level cafe & coffee shop.
Great spot to grab a coffee and explore. Plenty to look at and plenty of cool things to see.
😍❤💜💙 I love this place so much! Coffee, tea and salvage, what more do you need?
Great pieces of art and furniture; four floors! Love the atmosphere. The coffee was awesome too.
Gathering Iowa vendors there this weekend. Great things.
Neat place to visit. Enjoy some coffee, music, and buy something for the next home project.
David is very helpful! Was able to help us find hinges that are not made very often anymore for beautiful french doors that we also obtained from West End. Will definitely be back!
By far one of the most unique places we have been in. The coffee and cocktails are good. Even if you dont like antiques, there is an amazing amount of stuff to look at on all 4 floors.
Really enjoyed our time spent looking around would recommend to anyone going to see all the different things a lot of amazing antiques the people who work there very helpful any very nice
Love this place. Quiet, open spaces. Great staff and coffee to boot.
Love this place! So many different eclectic and unique items to browse. A must see for Des Moines visitors and residents alike.
Great place to spend a couple of hours looking at neat old stuff. Good coffee shop.
Awesome place but outrageous prices which made me drop a star. Great place to kill to.e and but something every once and a while.
Lots of stuff! Good for getting ideas or finding items for your projects. Very pricey.
Help was excellent! Full of really cool peices. Will definitly be back.
