A cafe is all about atmosphere. The previous owners nailed it aesthetically and environmentally. Unfortunately I walked into this cafe and not even a minute later the owner is yelling at her employee who I am certain is her daughter, still, extremely unprofessional nonetheless. I stayed hoping that would be that last of it, only to hear constant criticism and disrespectful tones directed towards the employee. Every 5 minutes there was something to yell and criticize her her employee/daughter about, it is so off-putting. Who wants to be in an environment like that? and according to other reviews I am not alone. its so awkward! keep it professional and keep your disputes out of customer view. coffee was decent didnt try the food but over heard that theyre out of everything whether it be bananas, pesto, certain coffees. I absolutely loved this cafe before and was excited to come back after 2 years and was extremely let down. Dont be the new owners that bring down what was once a fabulous cafe and be nice to your employees! I see on other reviews about the owner being disrespectful behind the counter, in response you claim this is not the norm or that it was an off day, I think otherwise!
Strangest coffee experience Ive ever had, I did not feel welcome. Slow service, 30 mins to get my order. Barista (Owner?) is overwhelmed and it seems she is running some kind of package business on the side inside the shop; packages are lying around everywhere. She had very concerning and unprofessional conversations with an individual who came in to pick up some packages. I felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. She makes this package business a priority over coffee patrons. It took 30 minutes for me to get my order of 16oz Latte, and Breakfast Panini. The prices were fair but the Panini was subpar I would not order it again. The latte was fine, tasted average.Unfortunately I will not go back. This place had great reviews before; it was suggested to me by someone who loved it a year ago. Seems the owner had changed? Something strange is going on here, I would avoid.
Really cool place with cozy booths, fancy chairs that will make you feel like a Tudor, sandwiches, and wide variety of coffee. I thought quality of coffee was better than Google average rating (4.3 stars as of writing). Definitely one of the best lattes Ive had in the area.
An absolute let down since ownership change. The owner couldn’t make matcha to save her life, kept telling everyone she “moves at the speed of light” while taking 20 minutes to prep a drip coffee and our other beverages. Bubble tea wasn’t drinkable. Overall a total shame for what it became. I hope the staff turn it around since the owner is nosediving them operation.
They used to be a great cafe with the sweetest girls who served fast, but once ownership got changed their food went from a 10 to a 3. Sure the place is still pretty, but its now plastered with Blue Live Matter flags, undermining the black live matter movement. You might wonder why the overall rating is still high, its because before new ownership this place was a solid 5/5 for a lot of people, but now I do not recommend going here. Youre better off at Auntie Irenes who have fast service.
Amazing food and drink. Cozy environment . Kind people!
I pick up Wish items here on occasion and the staff are always welcoming and very polite. Their customer service skills are impressive.
I pick up Wish packages here. Ive been trying to lose weight, so most of their goodies are off limits to me, but they smell awesome!! One of these days I will get to try some....
Open for limited occupancy dine-in, and its a good thing because the appearance and atmosphere is very cozy. there are different kinds of seating arrangements from regular wooden chairs at tables to a few booths and some cushions around a coffee table. the English muffin I got was finished relatively quickly and was pretty good
Eve, the owner, is always sweet and takes time to chat with her patrons. Yummy coffees, lovely people. Love this spot. 💖
Coffee was not great and way too hot.Very slow service and wasnt busy
III only been here to pick up my order from wish app. Owner was pretty nice. Will be stopping by again to try some drinks out.
Let me just start off by saying that crepes are one of my favorite foods. I’ve tried a lot of different crepe places. A co-worker told me about this place and their “Mixed Berry Crepe” does not disappoint.I’ve been to this place over 10 times in the last few months since I’ve found out about it. I have to be honest, the customer service can be a little hit or miss. This one lady was so friendly and helpful (I think she is the owner). She helped me create a custom drink and told me about their point system - and got me enrolled. So now after 10 points you get a free item. Just overall, very personable. There have been a couple times where someone else was working and they weren’t that friendly or helpful. But I get it, good help can be hard to find. And one person can’t work 24/7.The crepes do take some time because they said one crepe maker was down. So after that, I started calling in my orders or placed them on an app. So they were ready when I got there. But I don’t mind waiting for a quality item. The crepes are full of blueberries, raspberries, & blackberries. And they don’t skimp on the berries - it’s the perfect crepe to berry ratio in every bite.I’ve also tried the “Grilled English Muffin w/ Sausage” and the “Breakfast Crepe” which was full of Bacon, Eggs, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, & Cheese. Both were delicious but the Mixed Berry Crepe is my all time favorite. I highly recommend Marine View Espresso. One of these times I’ll actually take a photo of the crepe before I eat it and post it on this review...
Great coffee and really yummy pastries. The staff are very nice as well. The breakfast menu looks really good but I havent tried anything on it yet
Lovely little spot with good enuf coffee and a girl who tried hard and was sweet but didnt know the ropes and was a little slow. Ill be back.
The food is good, it just takes so long each time, at least half hour for one item. But the coffee is bitter and “bubble tea” is just flavor powder blended with ice. Plus extremely slow service and inconsistent missing little things like wrong size of drink, mixing up hot vs cold, forgetting part of an order etc. They are really nice and try hard, and the ambiance is nostalgic but overall not worth a stop.
By far the best espresso shop I ever found close to beach and docks Marina park
I have no idea why the reviews are so good. I waited 40min for a crepe. The employee gave up and did not know how to make it. And gave me a sandwich that was $3 less than what I had paid for
Loved this cute coffee shop. Exactly what I was looking for. Cozy atmosphere, good coffee, and as a bonus really good crepes!
Espresso was very good. Kitshey decor was nice too.
The food was good, the woman who helped me in the morning was super nice, but one mocha and one iced latte both tasted like industrial cleaner. Maybe an antiseptic.Even if it was just a mistake somehow, we are not interested in returning.
One star because - quit wasting people’s time by not updating your website or google page. If you’re not open then update your pages.
Coffee, crepes and panini! Great cafe
When I walked in it not a single customer, smelly furniture, and the crepes are overpriced and they were short on ingredients 🤦♀️ Won’t be coming back, not the best crepes super basic coffee for the price
Crepes were good but coffee was not...
Fantastic coffee and atmosphere. Loved the breakfast/lunch menu and our lattes were strong and delicious. Our sandwiches were great, just wished they came with a little side of salsa or some sort of sauce! As a note: they have almond, (I think she said hemp?) and coconut milk as milk alternatives. The ambiance is very cozy and relaxed. The fireplace was much appreciated after a chilly morning walk outside. Definitely would come again!
Love how many women of color they support!
Cute place, decent menu. Slow service and wrong flavor on our order. Too many other places out there to bother going back to this one.
Great coffee shop! Excellent and friendly service.
I use this place as my pick up for my wish orders and the owner is always nice and friendly she even stays late for me to pick up my orders
Love the atmosphere of this place. Like a chill Friends style coffee house with cozy couch & chairs & fireplace. Plus so close to Des Moines Puget Sound waterfront They also showcase local artists work available for purchase. Great vegetarian crepe & my fav Turmeric latte with Almond milk. Note: many vegan milk options.
Waited over an hour for our paninis that were mediocre quality and customer service was poor. Staff communication to one another was disrespectful and the whole shop could hear.
Best crepes around and very big too!
A cute little coffee shop with a fireplace and couches. The coffee and food are fantastic. This is a perfect spot to hang out at in the morning.
Always out of everything, whip cream, half n half, lids, even ice!! For the past 3 months the owner does nothing to provide these Baristas with enough supplies to last an hour, how they remain open is beyond me, we went daily but now will never return because not only did they raise prices (fair enough) but you cant get a coffee of your choice because they do not restock their supplies.
Coffee was 5 starsMy niece ordered a chicken wrap and that was delicious! Full of fresh veggies, nice and light. I ordered a sugar and spice crepe and that was incredible! Food was really good. Atmosphere was quaint and quiet and the prices are extremely reasonable 👌This coffee shop is a local gem. We will be back for sure!
Cute coffee shop, nice atmosphere, lots of coffee & tea options. The baristas are very welcoming & communicative. This is a great place to have a coffee date!
Cozy little coffee shop! The antithesis of the corporate coffee chain. I enjoy the high backed booth tables that you can disappear in and drink coffee. Fireplace sitting area is comfy also. Parking is around back or you can park across the street and use the crosswalk signal.
The food here is terrible, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Not to mention it’s VERY over priced. The ladies running the counter and cooking the food forgot what we ordered, gave us the wrong size drinks, and we’re rude. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go to McDonald’s.
Very friendly and very clean. Barista takes the time to wipe everthing down after use.
Opened during Covid and doing a great job.
Very cute little coffee shop in breakfast nook
Closed, even though it’s says open on google maps.
Awesome place and good people...Seasons Greetings to All...and Stay Safe.
Met the new owner this morning. She is putting an awesome amount of effort and heart into it. Had a wonderful dirty chai tea, and a good breakfast crepe. Hope to go back again soon.
Really like this little quaint coffee spot
Owner (maybe?) Was super nice. Coffee is good & great prices! SO MUCH BETTER THAN Irenes!!👍❤💚🥳
Good Americano! The Barista and Owner are very kind!
We have visited this place several times a year for many years. It has changed hands a few times and I am sad to say it continues to get worse. Before I get to the negative, I will say it finally seemed clean! Whether this is due to a pandemic or new owners is unclear. We visited three two days ago for breakfast. We ordered 2 crepes, one breakfast sandwich, and two 20 oz drip coffees. We were notified that it might take 15-20 minutes because one of the grills was broken. After 20 minutes I had to ask for the coffees and the person at the counter acted like she forgot. She said “oh yeah, I have to make it”. This is an espresso coffee shop with no drip on hand ? I gave them the benefit that maybe they aren’t keeping coffee made due to Covid. I watched her pull out a bag of pre-ground coffee that had not been closed and used a small coffee maker like I had in my apartment! No air pots, No fresh ground beans. They had to make one coffee at a time so we finally got both 15 minutes later and still no food! So 30 minutes for a cup of coffee. The coffee was from Cafe D’arte which is already over-roasted in my opinion. This was worse because it was STALE! It was like what I find in the back of my cupboard when I’m out of fresh coffee. I could only drink a little, it tasted like burnt coffee. The crepes were okay, but veggies were uncooked and the gourmet ham now has pico de Gallo instead of the yummy pesto sauce it originally had.We used to come here for the great coffee and mostly decent crepes. Now we will not be returning. I hope they can take this as constructive criticism and help their own business. Wish you the best but please bring back the goodness of this place as it was when I first came!
This was my second time eating at this place. I liked the location and loved the food. However, the second time I visited this place I had a horrible customer service experience. The young lady who prepares the food was very rude and accused me of not ordering the amount of food that I did. She assumed that I was trying to get one free order even tho I paid for all the orders. She kept saying that she brought out all the orders even tho I was still missing one order. She gave me an attitude and said “regardless” She will make one more order even tho it’s not as if I didn’t pay for the order. I felt very offended and this ruined my experience. I would love to continue to come to this place but because of this young lady I don’t know if I will or if I will recommend this service to others.
Many people people who own businesses CARE about their customers. The woman who owns Marine View Espresso is Over The Top ❕She KNOWS how to run a business..
Great food and coffee. Vintage furniture and surroundings. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Nice and quiet place to meet a friend or to study. Blink and youll miss it- and regret that you did!
They are always very friendly and happy to me great place
This place is great for delicious coffee and cozy local cafe ambiance. The baristas always come up with fun seasonal drinks, and they display cute local art that you can buy. Theres also some really plush booths and seats. They do have some food options as well, the savory crepes are a little too rich and salty for my taste but my friend likes them. I hope this coffee shop is here for a long time.
Ordered on DoorDash last week, and the order was never confirmed by the restaurant. No one was picking up the phone, so after an hour I got DoorDash to refund me. Today, I ordered 2 vegan breakfast burritos and actually got them, but then bit into a egg/ham/cheese burrito. I called the restaurant and told the lady working there what happened. At first all she said back was So? She did get nicer and give me a refund after that, but the whole thing left me hangry & grossed out.
Cutest coffee shop ever with actually decent spots to sit down and work or study for a bit. The special Turmeric latte with hemp milk is one of the best lattes I’ve had. Perfect place to chill, big windows & not too noisy
Amazing coffee and solid staff! Will be back to try the food!!!
Terrible, unprofessional.
When I think of my favorite place on this planet I think of marine view espresso. I’m sure several people have answered this question with some cool place on their list, places that are out of this country and in some small village in South America or Europe, but for me, it’s this little sit in coffee shop in the heart of Des Moines called ‘Marine View Espresso’. I don’t choose this place because of its coffee or it’s perfect sized booths, although both are great. I chose it because it’s where Elisabeth and I spent most of the first and second year of our relationship. It became special because of her. We grew together there, and had countless meaningful conversations there. We got married and brought our first and second kid there. We played board games for hours, learned new card games, split our crepes and spilled our hearts to each other. It became our spot. Marine View is a special place, near and dear to my heart.
Nice place. Best in the town.
First visit observations. The young lady at the counter needs some coaching on greeting & eye contact. Ordered the grilled breakfast muffin. Its taste, appearance & texture seemed much like an egg Mcmuffin. One of the young male employees wearing a sleeveless shirt, YUCK HAIRY ARMPITS! I do like to support small, local businesses & maybe try again in a month. UPDATE: 2 months have passed, no response from owner/manager.
Delicious coffee and crepes! Try the savory smoked salmon crepe. Delish! Quick and friendly service. Cant wait to go back!
Good food. Vegan offerings limited but yummy. Wheelchair accessible tables and restrooms. Kind but hurried staff. Would visit again if traveling that way. Coffee, even decaf, excellent.
I havent been here in ages. It was a nice treat. Will definitely be back again soon. The sweet crepes were amazing. Hit the spot!
Quaint cafe with delicious offerings! One of my favorite breakfast/ brunch choices when visiting Des Moines, WA. I can get something delicious and vegan or at least dairy free, while my partner is very satisfied with the meat enthusiast and omnivore options. The staff is friendly and the crepes mouthwatering! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
Excellent espresso drinks, and i cant think of anywhere Ive had a better cold brew. Food is delicious as well and the price is reasonable for the quality. Only reason they get 4 stars is because the store is always short handed for how popular it is. Thats on the owner though. Service is still friendly and environment is comfortable
Friendly worker all alone. I only went in to pick up a package an woman helped me right away
Delish, but pricey. Vegan n vegetarian food options available. She made amazing drinks for sure!
I loved it! Very quaint and unique. Doesnt have the commercialized feel at all. There were even board games. I am a tea person and they served Big Train Chai which is a huge win for me. Went Sunday afternoon and it was not too busy. Definitely recommend.
This place had the rudest people working there iv ever been to. I had a long hair in my drink and when asked to replace it I got an attitude it was so gross. I’d strongly recommend that no one goes to this place. I’m sure that people will be getting vary sick from this place in the near future. Worst coffee place EVER.
I use to live in a condo just behind this amazing Cafe. Marine View changed my perspective on tea all together by making me an incredibly smooth-black tea that tasted like a sweet, velvet marshmallow. I have to throw kudos to their food menu as well. You do have plenty to select from but you truly dont need any more options being that every thing offered is extremely tasty! Sincerely, a very picky eater and a harsh critic.
Great location, vibe, and great food. Would be a 5 if they consistently had their tapioca ready for bubble tea. Other than that it is a great place to work, chat, and relax. Nice selection of board games as well.
My wife and I came here on one of our first dates together when we were starting to date. Now we have one child a few years later, and we came back and it’s still as good as ever. The coffee is great. And I highly recommend the banana Nutella crape. Just amazing.
Love this cozy spot for coffee dates with friends. Just wish they had a bigger selection of teas and healthier food options.
Good coffee, AMAZING crepes but the lost star is the hit or miss staff like Ive seen others have comments on. Id say 70% of the time its good but sometimes you get someone that isnt necessarily rude but just doesnt smile and seems to not want to be there. Altogether, I keep going there at least once a month and its still good!
My fav local espresso stop. Best flavor beans .Great low key ambience. Good prices for food. Can take a few extra minutes but worth itSimple chic.
I don’t normally post, but wanted to make others aware. I came to get coffee. Online, on Facebook, and on their door, it says they open at 7:00am on Thursdays. I double checked their Facebook page that there weren’t any different hours on this day, and there weren’t. I walked here at 6:50am, and waited outside in the cold until 7:40am, and they still were not open.
Loved the atmosphere, unique and beautiful... Friendly and helpful staff... Great place!!
Quiet and comfortable atmosphere. The menu offers some fun & creative food. One of my favorite local coffee shops.
The coziest space for coffee, breakfast sandwiches or sweet/savory crepes. Really inviting and cozy. Comfortable seating. Excellent coffee. Always friendly service.
I love this place. It is quaint and friendly. I usually order a crepe and they are deliciousWish they carried soda.
My favorite little cafe. Excellent service. Tasty food. Yummy coffee. Super comfortable place to sit and relax with friends.
Great coffee and food. Atmosphere is charming. However, very poor ventilation. Always stuffy and me and my kid, who have asthma, always react to the hot oil fumes on the griddle and crepe machine.
I love their coffee.
Great atmosphere but honestly just okay. Ive been here three times now and all three times the counter staff have completely forgotten or missed huge parts of my order. They really need a ticket sytem or even just note cards. The coffee is kinda hit or miss. Over steamed or really flatly textured milk a couple times in my latte. Id say not to come here if you expect quick to go service but it functions well as a meeting or sit down cafe. We will still return because wed really like to support local business, but I hope the experience improves.
The Zebra Mocha is top notch! SO YUMMY, and better hot than cold. The crepe dishes, both sweet and savory, or really fantastic and a good portion size.
The girl was very sweet
Great little place for some coffee and food!
The service was a bit slow, but this is a nice quiet, non chain. The coffee was great and the muffin I had was good. I could tell it was just a Costco muffin. Its a good sit down coffee /snack shop.
Excellent little coffee shop. I go in there to do my studying quite often. The wifi is fast and convenient and the seating layout works great for some privacy to study or just talk with a friend. The coffee is good and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Love this place. Great coffee, bubble tea, and yummy crepes. Cool place with nice vibe, friendly people, and booths! Near the marina with outdoor seating as well
