Absolutely awesome coffee served only in a glass jar that you can take home and bring back. I admire them for taking such a bold and positive step. I also love how the iced coffee was cold without excessive ice.. which makes it easy to drink without needing a straw at all.Definitely check them out if visiting!

Coffee and scones were delicious and reasonably priced compared to chain stores! Love the fact that all to go drinks are served in glass jars that can be brought back and reused or recycled at home if you are just stopping by from out of town! Also the shop is super cute! I cant say enough good things about Horizon Line coffee. They are truly creators & innovators when it comes to their drink offerings. They consistently deliver quality & I LOVE the glass revolution! (dont forget to return your jars for the deposit back). Their vegan sconuts (any flavor) & vegan savory scones are to die for as well 😋 In happier times (pre-covid), the shop was bustling & the atmosphere was refreshing. I loved meeting friends & business acquaintances there!

I asked for their fanciest water and BOY did they deliver. Served ice cold in a delightful little bottle with a delightful little glass… some of the best water my tongue has every tasted!

They have an amazing cold brew coffee, I’ve gotten it with both their vanilla and brown sugar syrups and the brown sugar was especially incredible. I love how they use mason jars for to-go coffees, it’s both sustainable and feels like you belong to a local coffee community.

Stopped through on a cross country road trip and loved this place. The coffee is delicious and the staff was so friendly! We loved getting to talk with them a bit and enjoy the beautiful space. The shop is so stylish and cozy. Hope we get to stop in again someday!!

Visiting from California while my daughter checks out Drake and their rowing team and we were very pleased to find this place. Coffee is top notch 2nd wave and their honor system returnable glass cups with screw on lids and neoprene cozies made my heart sing. Its an evolution of 70s food co-op culture that isnt stuffy or preachy but is just so righteous.

Just liked the place! The selection of music is great and always in a good volume to enjoy it. The guys are really nice and will help you figuring out what to order. They loved their jobs! I love Horizon Line because I dont have to worry about what is and isnt vegan, because everything is clearly marked and the staff is so knowledgeable. This is a pic of their bananas fosters latte, which is amazing! They offer both sweet and savory pastries, which are all vegan. My husband who is omni loves everything weve ever gotten there. They have a seasonal drink menu and make all of their sauces and syrups.

The glass cups are the cutest. And I always feel so environmentally friendly...until I get in my gas guzzling Mazda 3 and realize I could have made coffee at my own place. Oh yeah, whatever chai concentrate they use is super delicious, too.

The absolute best coffee roasted locally thats always fresh. I cant accurately put into words how high quality the beans and roast are, but its fantastic. Additionally theyre very eco friendly with their to go packaging which is always nice to see.

We were heading to the Des Moines airport on our way back to Portland, OR and we were absolutely blown away by how great their roast was; who knew that there are pour overs in Iowa! Well now I understand why everyone has given 5 stars to this place. Coffee is really good but I also expect that from a coffee shop. What made this better is that they have an amazing atmosphere, with plenty of good vibe and great customer service. What really made it for me is that they don’t do paper or plastic at all. Glass mugs in shop, and if you take it to go they give you a glass jar with a lid. You can drink it whenever and if you bring back the jar, it’s $1 off every coffee you get. Definitely coming again and thankful for a place being environmentally courteous.

I visited Horizon Line for the first time today, and Im looking forward to coming back!My shot of espresso was outstanding - one of the best Ive had anywhere, let alone in Iowa, where third wave coffee is a bit hard to come by. Very pleasant bright acidity up front, with some nice complexity in the finish, and a smooth (almost creamy) body. I am not a barista myself, but I know it isnt easy to pull off a great light-roast espresso like this.On top of the great espresso, Brad was super friendly - and when he picked up from my comments that I am a bit of a coffee geek, he took the time to chat with me about their beans and process, which was I thought was really gracious (and interesting, too!).I didnt have the opportunity to try a filter coffee today, but I did take some beans home - they have a nice selection of single-origin coffees, including a micro-lot Ethiopian that I cant wait to brew up.

My boyfriend and I think HLC is the best! We are from the east coast where there are lots of coffee options, but were continuously impressed with HLC. He was a barista and is very into roasting/brewing as a hobby, for reference. I love their green initiatives and support of the Asian community!

In my opinion theyre the best coffee shop in town if youre considering atmosphere, quality, value, and taste. The interior could stand to be a bit more comfortable but everything else is so exceptional that youll find yourself making return trips regardless.

Horizon Line Coffee is my favorite spot in Des Moines. I first came across this shop when I moved to Des Moines and have been a regular ever since. The offer a great seasonal menu that has allowed me to branch out and try new drinks. They also have a wonderful permanent menu with a great selection of classic drink choices. My personal favorites at the shop are Canadian Cold Brew, Blackberry and Star Anise Latte (pictured), and filter. I highly recommend you stop on in to try some drinks and meet the amazing staff :)

The staff was super friendly and helpful with dietary restrictions. They were also super knowledgeable about their products. On top of that, the drinks were delicious. I loved the matcha tea with Oat milk.

Great coffee, tasty baked goods while they last, good work space and WIFI. Definitely check out the paper menu as its more extensive than what they show on the wall. Outdoor tables are nice if you want to sit outside with your dog when the weather is nice.

First time here and I loved it. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing to have conversation. The coffee was too delicious. Drank mine in 2.5 seconds.It got a little loud around 9:30ish once the rest of the world waking up decided to come in but thats to be expected when a place like this exist.I shall return. 💯

100% lives up to the hype. Super tasty coffee and they have inventive seasonal drinks to try. Forgot your reusable mug at home? They use NO plastic to-go cups! Youll get a glass container which youre encouraged to bring back, reuse at home, or recycle. A really great Earth-friendly program! I wish more places did something like this.

Espresso is top notch, so is the service. Seriously the guys here are incredibly polite and make you feel welcome. The seats are not super comfortable and theres not much to look at, but its a great place to sit and chat and enjoy excellent coffee.

Neat little coffee place. Only to go orders during covid, but the shop had an easy online menu and order system. Pick up was simple and the unique drinks are fun like the sage and oat milk latte. Sconut wholes were very tasty as well- the apple cinnamon version. Im glad this business is using glass to try and reduce waste. Its the main reason we went other than a couple of vegan options.

Just flew in from Seattle (one of the coffee capitals of the world), and was strongly recommended to get the flight @ Horizon Line. It is fantastic! Brewed properly, fantastic flavor profiles, and great atmosphere.

I like this place a lot. One main reason is everyone that works there is really nice. Sometimes with independent coffee shops you have to deal with baristas who feel themselves a little too much and think the rude apathetic thing is cool. They dont do that here, super nice and welcoming to everyone! Plus they only use reusable glasses. That is very awesome! Atmosphere is very cool/modern.

My new favorite coffee shop in Des Moines. I decided to order one of the three options for a “pour over” coffee, a manual version of brewing a single cup similar (but better) than a French Press. I went with the Ethiopia Misty Valley and it was great. The barista was very knowledgeable in explaining the answers to the questions I had. The sustainable glass jars are just brilliant too. I loved the coffee, the environment, concept and entire vibe of Horizon Line. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Baristas were very educated about their products and processes. Very handsome group as well! The atmosphere was casual and beautiful, and the seats were all taken! Thats a great sign!

Good lattes, love the unique flavors. They no longer do disposable to-go cups, you will been given a glass jar you can return for a discount on next drink. Wish there was a bit more seating, maybe they should redo the wall that is a bar for more seating?

These folks made me a cup of coffee so good it changed my life. Never had I had such a smooth tasting, perfectly temperatured, delicious cup of black coffee. They are super nice too.

Favorite latte in DSM. I admire the aesthetic, but it isn’t very accessible. It’s a great place to go when you are not in a rush or you’re killing time downtown. If a second location with a drive-thru were to open, it would be my everyday go-to. Staff is great, they do it right.

Oh my gosh ..this coffee is the best I have ever tried. Found them online, went there and they helped me make my own version of coffee that I wanted and it tasted delicious. Seriously good . Must try .

Great Coffee Shop

Good coffee, nice staff! A comforting blend between hipster and mainstream, with a noticeable local vibe. Excellent minimalistic feel, the walls are all white, making the area feel much bigger than it really is. Would be nice if there were more outlets, and the current table layout makes it hard to use them without worrying about tripping other customers with your cable. All in all, a wonderful gem off the beaten path!

It was a perfect sitting outside. Very quaint and cozy. What is not to like about this new trending coffee shop? The staff is absolutely top notch. We met a young man, Avery, who was so polite and cordial, I wanted to adopt him...😀😀😀. There was also a lovely lady that was a customer with the coolest hair color that was in 2 parts (burgundy, pinkish color on top) and dark on the bottom. The cut did not have that choppy look. Whoever her stylist is, I would love to know. Hint...hint😀😀. You Rock Horizon......

What a swanky hip coffee place. Their drip brewed coffee is exceptional. The flavor notes are unique and a ton of fun to explore. The space has adequate seating and tables without feeling cramped or awkward. The staff are also quite knowledgeable!
