Twisted Bean coffee is located is an unsuspecting, isolated lot on Merle Hay Road - but dont let that deter you.The interior is beautifully and sophisticatedly decorated with a good choice of tables, booths and high chairs to choose from. It is perfect for socializing, studying or working. Not the greatest outdoor seating however.Their chai was great and they had a great selection of breads and pastries.Highly recommend if you are in the area!!

Stopped here by chance while passing through and had their specialty blended Carmel crunch frappe and it was delicious! Drink was blended perfectly without a bunch of ice chunks! Staff was quick friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this coffee shop. Will definitely stop again if in the area.

Its an excellent place to spend some time working and enjoying a great coffee... I had to work in a presentation for about 2 hours and didnt want to get distracted at home, so I did it at the Twisted Bean Coffee (Merle Hay) and it was the perfect decision. Great coffee, relaxing environment and superb service! Totally worth it!

Owners are actually crazy, if you knew how bad the owners treated their employees you would never even look at this place again. Staff turnover rate is insane. Coffee is alright, but theres so much better coffee in the area. Acai bowl price is ridiculous for what youre getting. 75¢ for honey? Couldnt get more stingy/greedy. Owners are even mean to other coffee shops in the local area. Do the community a favor and find another coffee joint to support.

Stopped in here on the way through town. Great place with amazing atmosphere. Great coffee at a good price. Love it.

Iced coconut macchiato is the bomb!

The house made granola is the Bomb! So is the banana bread and other pastries. The coffees are wonderful, of course, and the place is immaculate and cozy with leather furniture and a Pottery Barn type feel.

Great latte - the flavor wasnt overwhelming. I liked the coffee much better than the breakfast sandwich (though it was good).

Didnt get what I ordered. Manager just said sorry, didnt offer to fix it. The one on 14th street is better. I wont be back.

This is coffee place with meal options. The location on Merle Hay road stands out because it is one of the best places to gather with friends. They have seperated rooms. One with a fireplace. This is one place I have taken friends from out of town to have coffee and catch up.

Fast drive through service upon recommendation of a friend.

Had the cold chai tea and a bacon breakfast sandwich. Cold chai tea was a chai flavored milk shake filled that was mostly sugar. They microwave their breakfast sandwiches, which was stale when I ate it about 3 minutes later. Sandwich had lots of pre-frozen egg and bread, with two thin strips of bacon. Service was fine. Location is tough to get out of.In response to the owner,Thanks for your reply, but the frappe was very different from my recent experiences in Oregon, which had much lower sugar content than what your establishment served.The “fresh” brioche bun was stale several minutes after I got it, typically a result of microwaving. If not from the microwave, the end result was still the same. There was no “thick cut” bacon, it was thin strips of bacon found at any typical fast food restaurant.It’s great to have a response from the owner. I never post reviews. This instance sticks out to me. The description from the owner is completely separate from the reality of what I experienced.

Twisted Bean is my absolute favorite coffee house in all of Des Moines! They have an amazing staff that will remember you and your favorite drink. Not to mention their food is freshly homemade when you order it. This place is my go to any day of the week!

I meet clients here often and there is always room to sit and prompt service. The coffee is excellent and they have a variety of other options to suit any palette. A picture of the menu is included in this post. The only thing I wish they had was more outlets and /or charging stations on the tables. There are a couple of spots where you can access an outlet, but I often end up having to move at least once to snag an outlet spot when somebody gets up and leaves. Overall its a nice quiet place to meet or to get some work done. They also have a meeting room if you are in need of a larger quiet space

Locally owned shop that takes quality seriously. We have had them cater some breakfast at work and they can do an expression bar for you on location, too. Great coffee drinks and food. Support local and get Twisted Bean.

Stopped by to satisfy my wifes afternoon fresh coffee hankerin and my sweet tooth...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! The orange cranberry scone and Jitterbug blended drink hit my spot like a gold medal Olympian archery champ! Great ambiance too!

We stopped by here to grab breakfast after checking out of our hotel. I ordered the breakfast sandwich & a blended coffee. Both were delicious! I only wish there was one of these restaurants closer to me!

Espresso made on an actual espresso machine, by a skilled barrista. No super-automatics here. Pourover was good, too. Would love to see more light-medium roasts available.Comfortable space, nicely decorated.

I love going here to have coffeeAnd to meet people. The help is always polite. But 14 other people and i were told that they were closed now. Its been my only bad experience here. Many times this has happened. I wish there was another way for your customers. Because of this i do not go there as much. I do not feel welcome.

Better than any chain. Good coffee and pleasant employees. They arent as fast as other places but good things come to those who wait! The inside is very nice too!

I love this place only 10 minutes from my home. They have great teas, too, our drink of choice. There was lots of energy in Twisted Bean this morning! Its halfway between my dear friends house and mine. Because shes moving to Washington State, the next time we meet for tea halfway, it will be in Billings, Montana😭.

Great place to meet with clients, family and friends at all hours having coffee and delicious breakfast options to having a glass of wine in the evening. Ive even used them for holiday gifts from their bakery. Great place with great people!

I have to limit myself to 2 a day. No other coffee shop even comes close to the quality and taste. Dont forget a piece of banana bread. Delightful!

Been to many coffee shops in town & must say that the food here is so fresh and tasty!! I believe they said it’s all made from scratch & I can taste the quality! Better bigger portions than most coffee shops! My coffee was great & the girls working there were so sweet. Definitely will be back

Great service. Beverages are delicious, a bit on the sweeter side, but delicious. Staff doesnt mind adjusting sugar level. Their selection of scones is impressive, however they run out quick. I also enjoyed their Southwestern salad (with homemade dressing) and Egg breakfast sandwich. They close early (7pm) and kitchen closes even earlier (2pm). Water is self-serve, but Im not sure if its filtered or tap...seems like tap.

Went here twice on weekend trip. First time went inside, very clean nicely setup coffee shop. I had the iced jitterbug and raspberry mocha. The second time we used the drive through sand offered a large shamrock mocha and turtle mocha. We enjoyed both days of drinks and would love to visit again next time in area.

Their iced coffee is excellent. Cold-brewed. So smooth I dont need any cream or sugar! They also offer some tasty food. Very good service every time Ive been. Great local merchant!

I visited Twisted Bean while on vacation, thought Id try something new and local (I believe this is local anyway). I ended up going everyday for coffee. This is a great atmosphere to hang out whether for conversation, to get some work done, read, etc. Staff is very friendly and the best part is the coffee is great. No complaints, I will be back.

Its much bigger inside than it appears outside, it has a great mix of seating from comfy chairs and couches, small tables, a lomg counter, and a few booths.The coffee is great and they have manual brew options and premium coffees in addition to traditional options. The food is great, I had the white bean chicken chili today and it was fantastic. The breakfast sandwich is really good too!

I stopped in here after looking a new Ford and it was a good call. I had a breve, no flavor. Great taste, friendly service and a terrific location. Twisted Bean is not on my normal path, going here was a fluke; I am going to have to make the trip again because it is a great coffee joint!

Good place with a lot of space so it doesnt feel very crowded. They could use more seating in the space though. Seating they do have is very nice though. A couple large tables for 6 to 8 people also. Normal offerings for food and beverage.

The soy latte was tasty. The space was much larger than expected. They do have some comfy seating in a cozy room. The lighting and vibe could be a bit more moody. You could definitely work from this coffee shop.

This is one of my favorite places to go when getting coffee. The people are super nice here and look like they appreciate their job. Not only is there great customer service, but its close by to where I live and the menu is great!

This is the best cafe in Nottingham. The aroma as you enter the coffee shop and the quality of the coffee and whole leaf tea is fantastic! They also have great muffins and cakes to go with the hot drinks- would highly recommend!

I found myself in Des Moines recently and couldnt have been more pleased with this place. Great Americanos, very clean, friendly staff, reasonably priced. I didnt try the food as the timing wasnt right for that but I felt welcome and got everything I wanted from a Coffee Shop.

Met with a Loan Officer to expand our Real Estate business by networking more. Nice large coffee shop with lots of areas to meet with relative privacy. Much more spread out than your average competitor coffee shop. Ordered a Caramel Macchiato. Good flavor at a fair price. Prompt courteous service as well. This location is not in my usual service area otherwise we could make this almost a satellite office of sorts. Best to come in off Meredith otherwise difficult to get to from Merele Hay.

Much more than good coffee. Freshly made foods for breakfast and lunch all in a larger, comfortable seating area. Friendly people taking your orders, too.

I work at an office half a block away, and Twisted Bean is a frequently visited place for most of us here. Their breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and the staff is always fast and friendly! Its also a great place to bring your computer and get some work done.

Very classy and authentic vibe. Much of the stuff is easy for you to see them prepare unlinke some other coffee shops. The layout is rather open and can fit multiple people. My favorite coffee establishment in the Des Moines area. This is a trendy, comfortable, spacious coffee venue with house made cookies that are incredible. Try the jitterbug. Ive been getting the jitterbug since 2010 at the south side location. Friendly service here and super clean, refreshing environment and atmosphere.

Tried to order inside. Couldnt stay. 1 employee working, 3 customers at indoor counter and 3 cars in drive-up. Drive-up = priority. Help wanted sign is no joke.

Coffee is great (especially the eggnog latte this time of year.) Employees are friendly and its a great place to get work done, have a meeting, or catch up with friends.

I love this place! There is a variety of seating inside and great selection of drinks. BTW their cookies are amazing. Crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside 👌.

I stumbled on this place because I was across the street for a car repair. The coffee was great the place was fantastic and clean well kept. the seating was comfortable and the service was impeccable I will definitely be back

Excellent coffee, nice atmosphere, friendly staff... However, coffee is expensive and they charge $1.80 for a refill. Id rather go to Friedrich where the refills are free.Edit (after their reply): I know that you get a refill with one of your ceramic mugs, but do you think that Im going to lug around your mug just to get a free refill? No doubt, you coffee is excellent, but I stand by my opinion and 3 star review. Most of your competitors offer at least 1 free refill. Id say that you dont have the market cornered in excellent coffee and might want to reconsider allowing your patrons 1 free refill per coffee purchase. While your mug policy is fine for your regular patrons, others like myself who try your coffee one time find it absurd that theyre paying almost $5 for one coffee and refill. If half of your customers on any given day are new, then you might want to consider the likelihood Ill come back again. Why dont you look to your competitor in Ankeny, Porchlight coffee, who offer a free refill? Maybe I might have purchased a breakfast pastry to go along with my coffee if you didnt charge for a refill. Sorry for the rant, but at least one refill should be free or at least just a nominal charge like 50 cents.

Great comfortable space to relax

This place is amazing it takes a lot to get me going in the morning but their large Jitterbug with an added shot of expresso I was flying give me the energy to walk several miles that day for the job I had. I would highly recommend getting the Jitterbug again let me say that highly highly recommended it.

The service is quick and kind. The coffee and scones wake me up each weekday morning. They also serve lunch and tons of space to work remotely or meet clients off-site.

Their Jitterbug is my favorite treat when I need a pick me up in the morning if I know Ill need a sugar jumpstart and then a nice caffeine ride to get me through the day. The chocolate covered coffee bean on top of the whipped cream is even better than a cherry on top.

This has quickly become my new favorite coffee shop; the coffee is very good and they make the treats themselves; I just had a perfect, warm-from-the-oven blueberry muffin. They have an extremely high end espresso machine and they know what they’re doing with it...Trying different coffee is one of my favorite parts of traveling, I’ve tried lots of drinks from lots of places; You *NEED* to try their dirty chai latte, it is one of the best I have ever had (anywhere) and my top recommendation in all of the dsm metro.

Nice, quiet coffee shop with lots of space and even a reservable private room. We hold our IowaPen pen collectors meetings there at a long table they have. Try the ice-blended coffees! Park around back; lots of shade for your car, and a drive-up window too!

Dont let the name fool you, they also have wine and beer for that late in the day drink! Very cozy place to have a great cup of coffee as well!

If in doubt, check it out! We liked the attention to coffee vs sugar, they have good flavor and do each drink really well. We will be coming back.
