I love everything about Allspice. The service is great and the variety of oils, balsamic vinegar and spices are abundant. They sell a quality product. You can even go on-line and they deliver.

Used to love coming here. Went today and was treated with bad attitude from associates. If I am going to buy some priced up vinegar and oil from a glorified supermarket, I want to be treated with respect. I was accosted by a pretentious sales associate instead. Ill gladly buy oil from the farmers market instead than come here again.

Love AllSpice! This is a great little store in the East Village. They have every spice imaginable, along with many other things.... Olive oils, vinegars, honey, BBQ sauces, etc. Everything I have bought there are from local companies. The spices have helpful labels with many great recipes online. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and great customer service. Their online website is also very user friendly in case you are no in the area or not able to stop in.

This store is amazing! An extensive selection of fresh spices from all of the world, high grade extra virgin olive oils, a variety of balsamic vinegars, and much much more! I was able to taste an artisan Worcestershire sauce they sell, and it totally changed my view of the condiment. Go in and try it! The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely a great place for your culinary needs and unique gifts.

The smell when you walk into this store is unreal. The prices are so reasonable, and there are small bags of the spices for a discount so you can refill your glass jars. There are boxes to stock your kitchen, as gifts, or if you just run out of your spice drawer and want to replace it with high quality deliciousness. Theres a whole selection of oils and vinegars that you can taste, and buy full or sample bottles of. I cant get over how good of a deal this place is. I recommend it to everybody.

The bay leaves from the store really added to my chicken vegetable soup. They smelled very fresh when my husband brought them home and added to the full taste of the soup. I use minimal salt so the bay leaves complemented the vegetables and gave it a more full flavor.

Impressive assortment of success, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and the prices are not unreasonable. We were looking for our new go-to store for olive oil and balsamic vinegar following or move to Iowa and it looks like this place is it. The service was great...we will definitely be back.

Has anyone else had the feeling that one of the managers there is slightly racist? I believe it was the manager. The person who helped me was so kind and helpful but the other employee was rude and standoffish. I truly felt they were eyeing my transaction. Whether it’s due to the way I look or just their overall lack of customer service it made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I won’t be back.

Every time we stop in here, we end up getting lost in the huge variety of spices. Its hard to make up your mind on what to get, since everything is fantastic. The staff is also friendly and very helpful. Conveniently for those who dont live in the Des Moines area, they have online ordering. The prices are reasonable, especially if you get the refill bags of spices.

This is my must stop place whenever Im flying in or out of Des Moines for work. They have every spice, herb, seasoning blend, etc. you could ever need and the prices are very reasonable. They also have an amazing selection of vinegar and oil, which is pretty dangerous because I buy the stuff and then never know what to do with it all. Sampling is encouraged, and the staff here is always super friendly. They even put extra packaging around my purchases so nothing gets broken in my luggage.

If you havent already been there, its worth the trip. Very helpful staff with really good suggestions.

I have to admit, the first time I ventured into AllSpice, I wasnt expecting to actually buy anything. Blame it on assumption, but I figured a spice shop in the East Village would be...well...not exactly affordable. Imagine my surprise when I left the store, tote bag in hand, full of four different spices only having spent around $16. That was my AllSpice awakening. Over a years time, hubby and I journeyed to the East Village to stop inside and pick up a few containers of smoked paprika (addicted to that stuff), cumin, wasabi powder, allspice, thyme...and we never once broke the bank. And the coolest thing? ...Well...*one* of the coolest things? The spice jars are glass, the labels are easy to read, and the whole bottle/jar just has the most kitschy feel that you can proudly display on your spice rack and feel all East-Village-hipster-chef. Totally reusable, too, the jars: just trek back in and pick up a bag and do your part to save our planet :D Thank you, AllSpice, for being. I love you wholeheartedly.
