Online everyone said it was cheaper to buy new rather than have my cylinder head redone. Not so! These guys ended up being about 1/3 of the price! Very pleased. Will update if I find any issues during install. Currently would highly recommend.
Easy to work with explained everything they were going to do. They did an amazing job on my engine. Turn around was perfect. Price was pretty fair for the amount of work they did. I would seriously recommend using these guys for all your engine needs. I know the next motor I tear apart will for sure make it in to this shop. I would give 10 stars if I could. Great job guys my engine looks fantastic. Keep up the great work.
Asked for a clean surface on the deck and for them to clean the metal shavings out of my block and clean it when they finished, told me no problem but when I got it back there was debris in all my coolant passages, my cylinders felt like sandpaper and they didnt clean out any of the metal, didnt know until I tried putting in my ARP studs and ruined my block from the stud bottoming out on all of the metal. The metal inside the block from block offs that were installed also had not been cleaned. I was also quoted half the price that I ended up paying. Would not recommend.
These guys did some boring for a motorcycle I was building. They were fast, easy to work with, and reasonable. Couldn’t ask for more.
Had a seized bolt. They charged more than expected and didnt even have the capabilities to rethread it. I would recommend going elsewhere.
Its been a few years ago, more than five but I remember the great service, price and customer service i received from them . I bought a cylinder head from a salvage yard in Des Moines that was supposed to be guaranteed. Took it to mid state first and was told their were valves not seated correctly confirming my suspicion and would not be able to be reseated. I took the head back and after arguing with someone who was an employee and not the owner of the salvage yard i finally got my money back .The owner of mid state ordered a brand new bare head, resurfaced the valves and springs from my cracked head and reassembled it for a price a lot cheaper than any parts store quoted me. Worked flawlessly when I put my motor back together . I definitely plan on shipping a 351 Cleveland and a 340 to them once the project vehicles are bought . I moved back to Missouri and I will send it up there in a heartbeat for the service they offer and are great at.
BEST MACHINE SHOP IN THE AREA PERIOD. I USE THEM ALL THE TIME WITH GREAT RESULTS. FROM HEAD RESURFACING TO COMPLETE REBUILDS THE QUALITY HAS ALWAYS BEEN SECOND TO NONE
Doesnt answer phones during business hours, or return voicemails left almost 2 weeks ago. Decided to go with Harveys in Norwalk. Dont waste your time here.
Little over 2 years ago I had this place rebuild a 1994 302, and ever sense it has never held any ring, cylinder 1 cylinder 5 and now again the same thing. I paid him over 2 grand for a motor that wont and cant last a 1000 miles, not to mention time and expenses of pulling and reinstalling all fluids ext.. At one time I asked him if he magnafluxed the head and blocks he said he did but on the 2nd rebuild he stated I just might have a bad block, I strongly recommend you do not take anything to this place. And now that I confront him about it again he hangs up the phone and will NOT answer..
Had a `65 Ford 390 engine built with some go fast parts (Edelbrock heads, intake, etc). Did the oil system modifications required for this type of engine. Also did engine break-in required for hydraulic flat tappet cam. Parts they supplied were good price compared to online parts stores.
I have used other machine shops and while most are competent, none have had the technical expertise of Mid State. What really impressed me, however, was the dedication and care that was demonstrated in my latest project. The engine was built easily enough, but when it didn’t perform to my expectations on their chassis dyno they worked with me and ended up swapping a few parts out until I was thrilled with the results. The price was very fair and I could tell they genuinely wanted the engine to perform as it should.
The best I have experienced when it comes to making a small block run harder then any crate motor! Great chassis dyno also!
I havent used them yet, but Id like to asap.I just dont know their hours. If someone could answer, I would really appreciate it.Based on how they handle my engine machining, Ill change my post and rating, but from what others are saying I hope I wont need to.
Midstate machine 10 years ago and before was a great shop. Over the last few years customer service and their work sucked. Had a small block Chevy there for basic rebuild along with heads reworked. Heads came back with valve guides untouched, in bad shape that oil leaked past guides. Intake would not seal. One of the heads were supplied from their shop. All of this was not found until many attempts of resealing intake, checking compression, etc. Ended up having to order new heads. Checked cylinder wall and found a crack forming from walls being too thin, this after I had the block crack checked and was told all ok. Took heads back to Midstates and asked why they were not fixed correctly and the response was They work just fine for a race spec head. Didnt even bother with taking block back to them, just found another local machine shop and built another engine. Couple friends have also had bad experience with them.
Took a set of BBC heads there that another machine shop had already rebuilt for me. Problem was the first shop never touched the guides and a couple were WAY out of whack, dumping oil down the guides and fouling the plugs in a matter of a few days. Instead of fighting with the original machine shop, I decided to take them to Midstate Machine and have them replace/sleeve all the guides, install new valves again and cut the guides for positive seals. It took them longer than they quoted to get them done, but it was well worth the wait. They looked great when I got them back. Having learned my lesson from the first shop I used, I disassembled the heads myself to check the work Midstate had done and it was top-notch! Couldnt be happier and I already have other projects on my radar that I will be taking to Midstate Machine. Thanks guys!
Guy was on the phone for ten to fifteen minutes got tired of waiting.the worst service ever.
Guy was an ass on the phone
