I enjoy going to this place. First time being to this particular location. Food was great! We were seated pretty quickly. However, it took us so long to order & then get our bill. I asked for a box & it took another bit after our bill for me to receive a box. It didn’t seem that busy. Maybe our waitress was new. I’m not really sure. Good was great though!
Black Bear is good! Breakfast food is definitely the highlight of their menu but I have tried a few things off their lunch and dinner menu too. I’d stick to breakfast and luckily it’s served all day. I think the “mini volcano” is probably my recommended plate. They have a normal “volcano” but it’s just too much food. Pro tip though: you can swap the pancakes for French toast on the volcano if you ask nicely. Overall, I like Black Bear. Good lil diner chain with good food and a lot of options. I’ve never had anything that’s “must have” good. But I’ve also never had anything bad here. Worth a visit—especially over some other diner/breakfast chains like iHop or Dennys.
Chop Steak & Eggs was delicious!! Food was all fresh and tasty! My first time eating at a Black Bear Diner, and I definitely recommend it. Only thing was, we went an hour before closing and there were more than 15 tables dirty from previous customers. So that made the diner look dirty & messy with tables full of dirty dishes and eaten food.
Overall an alright experience. Hashbrowns were on the cold side and partially undercooked! I feel Black Bear Diner in Draper is a great concept that needs improvement. The sign on the door asking for patience because of being short staffed should also include a reduction in prices we pay during these times. The customer is still paying for and expecting a great dining experience!
Wonderful food, fair price, and outstanding service. We had Tam Tam as our host and server; she was absolutely wonderful!! Would come back here just for her over the top service. 10 stars!
I am doing this review on this restaurant location, but mostly on my server, Paris. I have dealt with many servers, we all have, and she was my absolute favorite. You can tell she loves being there! She interacted with me as a friend, not as a customer. I will be sure to sit in her section the next time I come, and I’m hoping all of you do too! She is great. Best server at Black Bear in Draper I have ever met. They are all super good, but Paris is the best.
Weve been here many times. Ive almost got the menu memorized. The cooks are great. I love how Ive gotten great food every time. If I ask for extra gravy or extra dressing for my salad the wait staff is right on it. Unless its a super busy time they refill our drinks before we had to ask. I highly recommend this place.
Not everywhere I go is five stars. And to be fair on those, I dont leave a review. But sometimes you go somewhere and it all works. Good service, good food and nice people working hard and methodically to make good looking food and getting it out. Looking at how many take out orders were being filled, everyone seems to know about it. The French Toast was worth the trip.
This place is always busy but the do there best to get you in. Food is good Im not a fan of their sausage but others I know are.
We always love coming here because of the food, the amount of food, how friendly it is and the awesome vibe it has! However we want to give a shout out to Jeri, our server!! She was so nice, so helpful and made sure that we were having a good time!! It was my birthday and she made it extra special!! Thank you Jeri!
Our eggs Benedicts were excellent. The customer service was very good. The hash browns were badly undercooked. The grits were very watery.
We were seated after a 25 minute wait. Then 15 min after that we saw a waiter who brought us napkins and about 20 straws for six people. He took our drink orders and at the same time took our food orders. Then walked to the next table and did the same. Then put both tables orders in on the machine about 6 feet away. While imputing the orders he would ask each table in turn loudly clarification on those orders.A bit later we received our drinks, and they were fine. We talked and waited for our food which 5/6 orders arrived. We waited to eat for our friends food, we then noticed we had no silverware. Our server was not in sight so I went and asked for some silverware.Upon returning our friends food has still not arrived, but another one of the meals had an allergy issue so we finally found our server and asked for a swap. He seemed put out by our request for food that might not in danger our friends health. He took it back and instead of removing the offending allergens he took the visible top portion and left the bottom untouched. Our final plate was brought so we could all eat together and at this point I realized my food was fairly below average. I was bothered and intended to mention it to our server but he was once again missing. Also gratuity was automatically added to our checks which is sometimes a policy but in my experience its typically mentioned before the check arrives.
Tammy made our experience fun and enjoyable. Had great recommendations and we never had to ask for anything which NEVER happens anymore! Food was fresh and hot, not one thing we could say we would change at this location or with the service. We will definitely be back and we will for sure send friends and family as well. Thank you for going the extra mile and doing it with a smile.
Its fine, though weve only ever had breakfast here and they always have space for 12-14 people.I think the place has lost its savor over the years since its gotten more popular but it depends on the location, too. Covid made it difficult for certain locations to get staffed properly, so Id say just be patient for the next few months.
I love black bear dinner! Great food and service especially from Tam Tam she is the best! We will be back just for her! Black bear dinner is lucky to have her 😊 make sure to request her as your waitress!
I placed my order on line went down too pick it up, and they said that they didn’t have the order. Luckily I was able to show them the store # and my order total. The girls did everything to get me my order as quickly as possible. When I finally got home and had a chance too eat, it was really quiet good. I will be back!
Good food. Nice people. Please be nice to those who are serving you. They are overwhelmed right now
They need to learn to be more accommodating to people’s needs. Unfortunately we will not eat here again. I had weight loss surgery so I order off kids menu but they charge me adult prices. I eat less than a child. The waitress was great, I know it’s not her fault. Thank you
Breakfast was really good here, sweet cream pancakes and the best bacon Ive had in a minute! They also have house made biscuits that are fantastic. Give it a try!
We are always so excited to come here. This time was a downer. Server took awhile just to say hello. Food was quick after order but potatoes were soft. Miss the harvest cakes
We came in when it was very busy but all the staff were friendly and things came out pretty quick considering how crazy it was for them. food is a little bit on the pricier side but everything tasted really good. i’ll definitely be back on a less busy day!
I had been here once before and the service and food was totally fine. But, I went a second time and had a really terrible experience, and I will never go back. The waitress, Angelica, started lecturing my mother in front of me and my sister about how to properly flag down a server. Mind you, she passed by us at least 3 times and though we kept saying “excuse me” she was not coming to our table to take our order. So, once the server looked in our direction, my mom smiled and waved saying “hi, excuse me.” She continued to threaten my mom with “you’re lucky we’re in here,” and calling her things like “bougie.” We strongly encouraged the GM, Bryce, to watch the camera footage to see how these series of events unfolded because this server was 1000% out of line. I have never had an experience like this in my life. We were in SHOCK at how rude this waitress was. Bryce said he would definitely “have a discussion” with Angelica. However, this situation was worthy of firing her on the spot.
This Black Bear is superior to the West Jordan location that we usually go to. The food is good, and the service was so much better than the other location. Here, everyone at least seems cheerful. Its also much cleaner than the WJ location.
Waited about 10 minutes to get seated and then waited 20 minutes with no acknowledgement. 3 groups seated after us got their waitress drinks and orders in while we were ignored and sat unattended by the hostess and waitress. I think we had a waitress assigned finally but I overheard her talking to the hostess that she needed a break and she needed to go check her blood pressure. We left after another 5 minutes of waiting
This was the worst experience out of the three locations we have tried. The staff was complaining about other customers in earshot of current customers. This is extremely unprofessional. The staff even said that if they cant wait, they can go to McDonalds (when a customer asked for a straw). This is the pinnacle of bad manners. Our waiter must have been new. He brought us 1 2/3 glasses of ice tea saying that was all but never offered a different beverage or even refills until we cornered him. I was told that I was lucky that they had tartar sauce for my meal even though it was included in the menus description of the meal. I then had to wait about 15 minutes for a takehome box.
This place is very meh. I’ve had quite a few people recommend it and it’s honestly nothing special. I got breakfast and my eggs and sausage we both cold. The pancakes were somewhat warm but they were way too sweet. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the cold brew and that’s not enough to make me want to go back. Skip this place if you’ve been told you “absolutely need to try it”
I ordered eggs Benedict. The muffin was not toasted, the egg was very undercooked, it had almost raw bacon, not ham, and an unripe/hard avocado. In short, not food was not good. The service, however, was excellent, hence the 2 stars.
We always look forward to eating here when in town. We dont have one near us. Food is always good. We had a super server as well.
This was not a good experience. We went with a party of 14 and were served by Brandy. It felt like our entire visit was a burden to her.She didn’t give refills when needed, didn’t ask how the food tasted (it was cold), and didn’t pay attention to anyone. If she would have visited the table more often instead of just talking to the kitchen staff for 20 minutes she might have realized that the lemonade was watery and thatthe eggs were room temperature. It’s really hard to believe that people think they can waste your money like this— you would think that with a check that cost over $200 and a large tip coming your way that you would do a better job…. I’m glad I wasn’t the one paying because I wouldn’t have tipped.
I have to say the service was great, fast and the food was hot,had omelet.Loved it.Fresh vegs.also.Hope to visit BlackBear in draper soon..I highly recommend this restaurant location.
Cant say we had the best experience here. Weve been to the one in Sandy a couple times and been treated well, but this one lacked a lot of customer service. The server was actually pretty good, the problem was the wait time and the maitre d. The restaurant was empty and our name got lost in some other reservations. The food was, of course, delicious comfort food!
Solid 4.3. Food was great! Size was exceptional for a 64 230 man, it didnt fill me up. Would I go again? Absolutely, I would just get some more food.
It was great and staff was friendly and good to joke with. Wonderful experience. A small food mixup but quickly resolved.
We had the best waitress ever. Her name is Brandy. She has such customer service. She should be recognized for it.
Awful. Food came in about 60 seconds, which should have been our first warning. The biscuits and gravy were cold. The waffle was like a cold limp piece of rubber. The pancakes that followed as a replacement came just as quickly, a sure sign that the food is not being cooked to order. An overall dismal meal. Would NEVER go back.
Quick service but I overheard our server say “Jesus Christ” after our table asked for 3 additional items to our meal.
Every time I find myself in Utah I cannot help but to eat here. The food is sooooo good, and the portions are huge, even the smaller meals. If you have never experienced great country cooking, or even if you have, you need to try this place.
I had the veggie omelet and my husband had chicken fried steak. Everything’s on the plate was amazing and Angelica, our server, was great. Plenty of coffee, tons of food! We loved it!
Autumn was awesome. She kept us laughing the whole time we were eating. We will definitely be back
Always a long wait but the friendly service and club sandwiches always keep me coming back. Always enjoy my meals there❗❗❗
I visited this restaurant on the Sunday morning the place was packed but I was amazed by the crews that were working that they did an outstanding job they put out about 200 orders within less than 20 minutes with what I experienced I would recommend this place to everybody staff were friendly and served very well thank you
Large portions and amazing service! Especially your cute redheaded serverfingers! Shailey did an excellent job
The prices was horrible for a Mcdonald sized hamburger and it tasted like it came from McDonalds. The onion rings was over cooked. The kids meal chocolate chip pancakes where cold and didnt give enough syrup. The ketchup on the table was completely empty. I wanted to like it since they say on the hamburgers it is cooked to your preference like raw medium etc... but it is too tiny of meat to even taste good. They also did not have vanilla for the iced coffee....😞
If you have kids, give them a kids menu, if you know theyre going to want more then 5 strawberries and 2 small pieces of French toast then do so. This place we ate at twice while visiting and honestly its hit or miss.
Nice dinner! Good corned beef and hash, but they served it separate. Awesome bacon.
Good food. Friendly staff. Everything Ive had here is good. Theres some comfort food for about anyone here. If not, youre too picky.
Good food, good location, ok price. I had blackberry stuffed french toast, blackberry lemonade, and fruit. It was really good.
I hate to give this place 3 stars because it is really really hood food, and the wait staff does a great job. The reason for 3 stars is because lately Black Bear has been shrinking their portion sizes. I used to go in and be absolutely stuffed when I left. This last time my entire party had to go eat somewhere else after just to feel full. I just cant justify the cost to food ratio.TLDR; Good food, good staff, small portions.
Ive always enjoyed the food at Black Bear Diners. Yet the people make all the difference and I was welcomed by staff that had spunk and excellent service. Thanks for making an incredible start to my day
Ordered a Denver omelet and thought it was strange that the ham, onion and peppers were not incorporated in the egg. Then I realized that the egg and cheese portion were pre-cooked, then the Denver fixings were put over the top at the time of order. Pretty sad when you cant get a fresh omelet.Servers did a good job of keeping our drinks refilled. But the food was sub-standarded.
All you can eat was cut short because they ran out of the menu item, while we still were hungry. Server told us, Well, thats all you CAN eat. Like a play on words smart aleck. They try to refill your drinks often, but unlike most restaurants where refills are free, at Black Bear Diner they are pursuing they refill because they make about $1.75 each cup. Their cost for the drink is from .08-.12 cents!!! That is gouging and NOT customer service, its rude and expensive on families already spending $50-100 on a meal here.
Hands down, finger licking good. Took my family here while on vacation. They dont want you to leave hungry!
They were severely understaffed but the food was still really good and our service was with a great attitude although slow. Huckleberry lemonade is delicious.
Came here because of the diverse menu and especially the smoked chicken apple sausages! Which was delicious, along with the eggs. Coffee is so so. And I saw a waitress move toast with bare hands before serving it to the customer. That was definitely unsanitary which is too bad because the food is good and not overly greasy for a diner and had a good variety. Service is also friendly and comforting. I would have given it more stars if it werent for the unsanitary food handling.
Service was good, so was the food. Ordered pot roast, & tri tip, both were good. Ordered cherry pie, not too good, also bread pudding wasnt moist. Otherwise I would recommend overall.
Food came cold. Bacon was raw. Hashbrows were overcooked and nothing was salted. Had to ask for a toast and water. Never will I eat here again or any other black bear dinner.
Get the California Bacon Benedict! It was SO good. With the hash browns (crispy top) 🤤
REALLY SLOW service. Even after the initial wait, it was still almost an hour after being seated to get food. Really, really slow. We wont be coming back.
Everything was delicious!! Best food on our 1500 mile trip from Texas! Highly recommend!
Our experience today was not to the standards of Black Bears.Overall service was less than mediocre at best.Food not to Black Bears standards.Seemed to be a definite lack of direction and focus with staff.
Waited a long time for stone cold, shriveled up microwaved looking food. Terrible.
Food was good, our server not so good. The diner was not busy, and she forgot just about everything we had asked her for. She was absent throughout our meal, plates were not cleared. I was able to asked her for the check and after she droped it we never saw her again.
We have been to Black Bear several times. Everything was off tonight. First it was a long time before we were seen by our server. We had easy orders. Coffee and pie. You would think that coffee would arrive quick. NO. we waited as it was a personal meeting and were not in a big hurry. The pies arrived first. Okay. Waited a bit longer for.the coffees. When they arrived there were floating, I think, coffee grounds and a light oil like floating on top. She took note and after I guess they made New coffee brought us 3 new cups. They were fine.We all ended up ordering the Mocha pie. None of us could taste a Mocha flavor. Chocolate but not Mocha. Between the 3 of us we did not finish 1 serving, we had 3.We did get a coffee refill.I hope.it was just an off night.
Normally a good choice to eat. Trouble finding people to work has affected our favorite places to eat. A couple of issues, toast wasnt toasted, bacon was raw, out of strawberrie jam. Asked for salsa and it never showed up. Black Bear charges a premium for their menu but may need to wait to go back till we get closer to normal.
Kyson the host set the tone for a great relaxed meal with his happy pleasant demeanor.
Very good food.Service was okay.Forgotten items and somehow they mixed there ranch and blue cheese dressings together.
The food was amazing! Highly recommend! Service was good.
Good food. Nice staff.
The Food was good. When we came in the place was clean and the bathrooms as well. All of our food came out hot and fresh and pretty quick. Good location right off the freeway too!
Great food and so nice to eat at a place that still believes in generous portions!
Good food, good price, good service!!
My first experience wasnt good. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito. They were fast, but it came out as a ham breakfast burrito (not on the menu at all). The hashbrowns were OK at best. I am a fan of diners but this will.be a first and last for me. Waiter was excellent and was extremely apologetic about the kitchens mistake. Fruit seemed fresh and was the best part of the meal.
I sat for 20 minutes waiting for a single item to go order, meanwhile I watched five servers stand there staring in the window while two cooks hustle to make over 20 orders that were on the screen. Worst of all one of the servers was coughing dramatically behind the counter and didn’t even bother to cover her mouth let alone step away from the serving area or wash her hands. This is disgusting and I will be sure to pass this on to my friends and family about this location
We had an early dinner, so it was nice and quiet (well, until our family arrived). Black Bear Diner in Draper was the perfect choice for our extended family get-together. The food was cooked quite well (props for the steak items), the strawberry cheesecake was exquisite, and the staff were very accomodating to the requests of our young and elderly alike. Thank you!
First off it was not busy, I was seated and then waited 12 minutes for anyone to bring me water or coffee, waitress came and took my order brought my food, it was less than stellar 😞. Bathrooms were disgusting and then had to wait 7 minutes just to pay my bill for this horrible experience! The OJ was good tho 😀
The bear-cabiney atmosphere is nice and the staff was super friendly. My chili burrito was good but next time I’ll stick to breakfast, fried chicken or the burgers. Definitely one of the better diners to go to. Will definitely be back.
Love their breakfast! My boyfriend had a craving for chicken fried steak so I took him to black bear diner for his first time promising deliciousness. Our dinner was disgusting. Honestly felt like we had heated up a glorified TV dinner. I don’t know if its just this location or if the only good thing they offer is breakfast. But man how embarrassing. He had taco time on the way home. It was that bad. Kids really enjoyed their pancakes for dinner though. So - stick to breakfast.
Autumn was a Awesome Server. Prompt service, enjoyable.
Service was good but my meal was not worth what I paid for. I ordered a Ham and Cheese omelet with tomato and extra cheese. I barely got any cheese, a little bit of tomatoes on top and it was as big as my hand. The bread was barely any butter.
