Me and my husband love checking out board game businesses when we travel to find a new game to play together. While their board game selection isnt beyond extensive, they had a great selection, it was a clean environment and was even busy! The owner really seemed to love what he did and did it with excellence. We would love to support this business if we are ever in town again.

Comic world is my go-to for any tabletop board game, or any if my D&D needs. Ben the owner is the prime example of what makes a locally owned business great, and why supporting them matters.When I go in Im recognized, and Im greeted with a friendly smile and hello. Last time I went in I didnt even have to ask what I needed, he already knew. Thats the kind of connection Ben, and all the other employees there to be honest, have with their regulars.On top of that the community events are great, and while I dont do the card games, I can always tell when I go in that whatever is going on gives everyone there a sense of community.

I love the atmosphere of this shop. Everyone was very welcoming and fun to play with. The shop owner kept the store open late for me as I had walked down to see my wife at her store for a while and didnt realize that the store was closing. He waited until I came back so my stuff wasnt locked in overnight. He runs a really solid LGS with very fair prices. Strongly recommend!

I always enjoy stopping in and picking up my comics. Everyone is friendly and I never feel rushed to make my purchases. They get to know you and offer you suggestions other comics, games, or collectibles you might find interesting. It has been difficult during the pandemic but having a place to stop and talk to others while social distancing is great.

Owners are great and very charismatic. They work hard to ensure you get what you want at earliest convenience.

Awesome place! I dont play in the events or in store games but the owner is really friendly and helpful. They were out of a product I was looking for and they ordered it for me right away. I was able to come pick it up the next time I was in town. Ill keep going back for all my stuff here.

Fun store to go into for play Yugioh and MTG. I started playing Magic this year, and the guys helping me are very knowledgable on the game. The only thing I wish is that they bring back the bins of 25 cent and $1 Yugioh cards. But they usually have what you need in many binders.I cant wait for tournaments to start back up for Yugioh.

This place is overpriced, better to drive to any other card shop that is 20min away, dyersville and platteville much cheaper, also rude owner Ben in this place, made a list wanted to buy half and told me not to waste his time, when I said ill come back Friday for the rest. A fantastic comic book store, one of the best in the midwest. I travel over an hour to visit it. They have an ever-changing stock of new and old comics, and theres always something good to find at a great price to boot. Im personally not a gamer, but the numerous gaming tables are always full and always lively every time Im there. The manager, Ben, is ALWAYS super nice and accommodating. If youre into games or comics, you owe it to yourself to visit.

They let you host games here for Dungeons & Dragons. Its also one of the few havens for Magic The Gathering. Its an excellent place to hang out and have fun. The store owner is great and loves conversation. You wont find a better gamer haven in all of Dubuque.

I had never been in a comic store before but I wanted to take my son. The owner was super helpful in pointing me to the kids section and answering all of my questions. You can tell hes passionate and loves his job. Felt very welcoming here. Ill be back.

I love supporting local stores. The owner of this place is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and makes me feel welcome at the store. Most of the time, comic book stores have a sort of snooty or elitist atmosphere due to the stereotypical clientele but this is certainly not one of those places. You can get comic books, board games, miniatures for Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars, and Warhammer miniatures, play Magic the Gathering, hangout with friends, and join local tournaments. Its a great place for all the local geeks.

Came here out of the blue. Great service and spot on for any questions we had. Came in to grab some dragon shield products. They also gave plenty of boxed games. Will definitely be back when in town.

I went in to sell some of my old board games & magic cards and saw all the comic books and games they had. From a first look, it feels open and fresh while being in a basement of the building. Ive never been there before and plan to come back to see what they have to offer for comic books.

I only came to the store once to sell a few old board games. From the look of what I saw, the place was nice. A good place to find some comics or board games. Im not to sure about the pricing since I didnt buy anything there.The entry to the place is kind of a hazard because its stairs that are metal and if you lose your balance...then you know. All in all its a decent place. Might go back sometime to see what they have in full.

Dont let the entrance fool you; despite essentially being down the stairs into the basement of the building this shop is well stocked with comics, cards, and games. Not only that but they do have plain space and often have tournaments for card games and people running sessions of other games as well. Talk to the knowledgeable staff if you need to find out what the schedule for any of these are.

I always make my big magic purchases at comic world to show them my support, because they deserve it. Comic World has an excellent atmosphere and practically anything your nerdy heart desires. The owner also goes out of his way to help out customers. He has given me good deals more times than I can remember. Definitely check out comic world if youre into stuff like comics, card games, D&D, etc.

I tried to start a pull in 2012, but was told that I needed to pull a minimum of seven comics. I only have three regular comics, plus the occasional addition. Instead of frequenting a fairly local shop, I drive +75 miles to Madison. Honestly, Im fairly new to comics so I dont know if this is a common practice in stores, but it seems odd to turn away guaranteed sales.A recent Yelp! reviewer noted there were new owners in 2016. I decided to give them another try. I setup my pull a few months back. On my first pickup they had to pull them from the general store shelf. Not a huge deal, perhaps some of the books had just come in. On my second pickup they didn’t have my comics set aside and some of them had sold out. The employee said that if you weren’t in each month they would sell the comics from the pulls, explaining that not doing so was “leaving money on the table”. Ironic because I immediately canceled my pull and left. I wanted to be there customer.I just need a way to guarantee my pulls will be held. Honestly, I’d even be willing put down a deposit or prepay. I just want my three comics set aside for me. I dont think thats asking to much, but at minimum, call or email the person before selling comics from their pulls. Unfortunately, I’ll once again be driving the extra distance to Madison.Responding due to a reply from the new owner in 2019. I have no idea why my review was bumped. Prior to this update I havent edited anything since 2016. Sounds like the new owner is willing to actually hold comics. I may try them again, though the comics I was pulling were Walking Dead (finished), Outcast (6 issues left), and Saga (hiatus).

Went here for Friday Night Magic as I havent played in years. The staff behind the counter were extremely helpful and helped me get back into the current metagame and answered all of the questions I had. Granted, the smell was a little much (dont know if that was the clientele or the place itself), but it was fun experience.

I had a half hour to kill and thought I would stop in. I was mainly just browsing the store, mostly looking to see what board games they had, especially if they had Dominion expansion packs. I was disappointed to see that they didnt have those, but thats not why this review is low. No one in the entire store asked I needed help with anything, nor did anyone try to approach me. One of the workers sat back by the register and barely made eye contact with me. It was really unfortunate, but it felt like a very unwelcoming environment for a newcomer. Guess if you arent one if their friends then they dont really care about you. I was even planning on getting my own base set for Dominion, but now youve lost my $50.

Love the atmosphere. Love the gaming space. Everytime I go in, there is at least one game going on. There are even tables for warhammer set up. My favorite thing about the store is they encourage kids to get involved with these games. They offer dnd games for beginners and my kids love the dungeon masters that run the games. Ivy (one of the dungeon masters)is so patient with the kids when they need help and makes the whole gaming experience a blast for those that participate. AND they fully encourage everyone to join, not just boys. At one point one of the dnd sessions consisted of only girls between the ages of 10-13 it was amazing to see that girls are allowed to game too without judgment

A fun place to go to. If you are looking for Comics or card games, Or want to take part in MAGIC games or contests. This is the place you want to check out.

Have never done business with Comic World until I recently found a stack of old holographic pokemon cards. I didnt want to throw them out so I tried calling at least 5 times daily over the course of 3 days and not a single time did they answer. I finally just drove there only to learn the one guy working was the comic guy and the card guy wasnt going to be in very much. So far Im very disappointed, however the guy I spoke to was extremely nice and sociable and for that reason I havent given up all hope yet.

Store appearance (and smell) has vastly improved with the new owners. Garbage and disarray with previous owners is gone. Unfortunately it still seems like a hang out more than a retail establishment. We were not given a greeting when we entered and not acknowledged as customers the entire time we browsed. The employee just couldnt pull himself away from the chatter of two guys at the counter. If you are a gamer and want a place to play, this is probably your spot. If you are a new customer this may not be the place to start. Comic world is a misnomer. It should be renamed to reflect its true personality... Basement Gamers Clubhouse.

Where to begin? Its too bad that I am not able to give a rating of 0/5 stars because I would. First of all this place is about as dreary as it gets. Its seems dirty and very poorly taken care of. Not to mention the fact that it smells like cats because the human being running the place ACTUALLY HAS HIS CATS RUNNING AROUND THE STORE! This man is about as unfriendly as it gets. He doesnt like to be talked to or asked questions. He also has the tendency to show up whenever he wants thus disregarding the scheduled opening times and Ive seen him kick people out without finishing their purchase simply so that he could close early because he felt like it. There have also been times where he refused to make a sale for no apparent reason. Maybe they dont understand that to keep a business afloat you must make sales and the place is a ghost town the last few times Ive been in there. This place has a lot of potential but only if they find new management and until that does happen, I will never step foot in there again.

I really enjoyed our time there, though it was short. I hope to return soon and maybe chat with the new owner more about mtg and dnd

Stopped by this store today and checked out there comics. Raided the dollar box, went up to the counter and the clerk had to look up prices on them. He looked them all up on ebay why were they in the dollar bin if you were just going to look them up? Plus it was game day in there all I can say to that is the need air freshener.

Nice, laid back place to buy, play games, and hangout. Tuesdays also have fighting game tournaments starting around 6:30pm.

Great little gaming store, from RPG, to Magic the Gathering, they seem to have a bit of everything. Always ready to offer help and advice or introduce you to new games. Often times games are being played in the room set aside for that type of activity. They also hold prerelease tournament and other MTG events. Cool downstairs location adds to the atmosphere of the place. If you need games or gaming supplies in Dubuque, this is the place. Support your local stores.

I am sorry, I dont want to come off wrong with this review but it is as honest as I can be. I love comic books I have spent my life collecting them I grew up with this store I followed it from location to location and from owner to owner. Todd is awesome I enjoy my time with him talking about comics or asking him to find me some issues.However over the past several years my stops at comic world have been less frequent I now drive to Madison regularly to buy my comics. I have developed some serious issues with this store they dont offer comic collectables anymore there is no back stock for filler issues at all and the current comics are treated like an after thought they are thrown on the shelf creased and folded over no bags or boards on them the condition is an embarrassment.I didnt see there local comic art for sale anymore they changed owners AGAIN..This place is called comic world and games but that is not accurate at all its all games here.How can u call yourself a comicbook store if the comic lover comes in and he feels alienated and excluded. When that same comic book lover asks about an issue he is immediately brushed off to talk to the gamer who is asking about magic.I will probably not come here to many more times and I will still drive to Madison and spend a grand a month on comics and collectables because there it is worth the trip its worth the gas. The owner on that store knows my name and makes the shopping experience fun and interactive just by his passion for the products he offersGood luck to you

Despite walking in and feeling an uneasy welcome (Ive been told by numerous friends they have the same feeling) Ive been a shopper for over ten years. And aside from going in and getting the run arounds from to store owner handing me off to his second in command (whos a good friend) 10 years actually says something about it. Sure it has its ups and downs (not to mention I have a 1964 Amazing Spider-Man #14 stashed hidden away somewhere and they couldnt fish it out [and oh guess what? new management!] good luck getting it back) it has interesting things and most of the time steals and deals. I guess it is what you make of it. I wish that cat would go though. Terrible allergies most people have with cats.

Great place if youre really into Magic: The Gathering. Theyve got a wide selection of cards and have space to play along with well run MTG events. Staff was helpful and friendly, and although theyll sometimes be playing a game or something it isnt hard to get their attention. Store could be a little more organized, it just looks a bit cluttered. As far as comics and board games, their selection in somewhat underwhelming. Theyve got most new issues of popular comics properly displayed, but older issues are just in a few disorganized boxes. I was most disappointing in board game selection, as they didnt seem to have many of the popular modern board games I was looking for, especially very recent ones(Blood Rage, Star Realms, Terraforming Mars, etc), although its possible these were just sold out. All in all, Id suggest it wholeheartly if youre into MTG, Warhammer 40k, or Pokemon. Even if you arent its still worth checking out, as they do sell some neat hobby stuff that cant really be found anywhere else nearby.
