This place is fantastic. An absolute life-saver for people with restrictive diets. Wish they would expand to the Twin Cities as well, and all around the state.
If you suffer from anxiety this store will trigger anxiety attacks left and right. The aisles dont offer much room to get around in and the displays in the produce section were crowding, making it difficult to get around. There were a lot of people and I felt rushed and had to go back to aisles to get things. There was an aisle with heavily fragrant bars of soap with cereal on the shelves right across from them. Theres a reason stores dont have food and chemicals in the same area. The smells contaminate the food. When I lived in Virginia, Minnesota, I would go to the Natural Harvest Co-op often and always felt very welcomed and expected that with this store, since its an organic store. I did not feel at all welcomed. That feeling came from the other shoppers. I dont trust the store because Im on food assistance and my SNAPS benefits didnt cover a few items from here that were covered in Natural Harvest Co-op, Target, and Super One. This is the first store that I used my SNAPS card at and felt shamed for using it.
Always enjoy shopping here. Cashiers are very friendly. Only thing is, they need to get more Loves Creamery Salted Caramel...I was lucky and got the last one. : )
I love coming here with the kids to grab lunch from the hot bar and sit on the patio overlooking Lake Superior.
I just experienced THE BEST customer service here! She went above and beyond to help me and I’m very grateful!
Even had a sitting area outdoors with lake view!
Love whole foods Co-op, so many vegan options, all fair trade and great quality. If you become an owner and are on state insurance you get 10% off of each purchase!
Its a good place to shop but very busy on that intirerly block
Great co-op, wide selection of delicious food, good service
If I could give them less than an eighth of a star, I would. Horribly rude manager and staff. Do not, I repeat DO spend your hard earned money, here.
Loved the assortment of organic products all in one place.
This is a great place to shop! Customers and staff are friendly, and helpful, and the service makes you know youre a priority! The outside is welcoming, with a few seasonal goods, and the inside is clean and well-stocked. The ample parking is paved, well-lit, and has a great waterfront view - with seating for eating both inside and out. There are a bus shelter and bike racks, and Disabled parking is right by the front doors, with short, low ramps. Prices are reasonable for organic products, including vegan and locally-sourced, and the deli is excellent - made fresh on-site or sourced nearby. They have items for good health beyond just food, and you can grind your own coffee and peanut or almond butter! It pays to be a member with Whole Foods Co-op: weekly specials, monthly circular of items on sale and booklet of coupons, as well as special event discounts. You can top off to the next dollar and donate to a different charity every quarter, which will show on your receipt for tax purposes. There is a fresh bulk aisle, and you can order large quantities at the service counter right by the door, where someone is always there to greet you and answer any questions. There are fresh flowers year-round, as well as plants and herbs. And you can catch up on free news, see whats happening around town, and source bus schedules, yoga classes and much in between in the cart lobby - where you enter, exit, and a nice heater greets you in the colder months!
Its expensive and there are a lot of unnecessary packagings with eco friendly stamps that include a fine print saying that only a rare and special facility can recycle these items... a lot of extra steps and expenses between farm and table... but this is where you can expect to find all of your specialty health and vegan products . They also have the deli and I remember they had cooking classes and a Halloween carnival in the basement in the past. All of that stuff js pretty great to have available for individuals and for the community 👍Edit... you guys would be so great if you stopped using these plastic containers! They cant be recycled or reused. They hold grease for like, ever. Please dont use these. The responsibility will be on your consumers to find use for the packaging, and if they wont take the responsibility, then the waste is carelessly discarded and the messy responsibility will be passed onto the generations after us. That includes your kids. This is a major opportunity for growth, guys. I think you should meet on that asap
Very knowledgeable, friendly staff, a great selection and some of the best ginseng Ive ever had! Makes me wish I lived in Duluth.
Great covid protocols, the buffet is pre packaged for now. I didnt enjoy my entrée but it just wasnt my taste. The 7 layer pie dessert I had was AMAZING.Not crowded, great friendly staff. Highly recommend.
1st time at this store & it was great!!! Very nice & helpful service. Also a lot of healthy foods Ive been looking for!! They even have almond meal bags, a cafe that had wheat free sandwiches, granola, maple syrup & a lot of bring your own container items! As well as essential oils & other healthy items!
Had fun exploring this great little grocery store for the first time.
Beautiful store, great selection of everything!
I recently visited your East and store, when I walked into the entryway I was told that I could not walk in unless I had a cloth face mask on. I had a plastic face shield over my face because I have asthma, and I was denied entry until I put on one of your disposable face masks. I will not be shopping with you guys anymore. I was warned by several friends who wear plastic face shield because they cannot wear the cloth ones that you guys insist on people wearing. Good luck with your business during is pandemic! I noticed that you guys dont even have half the Shoppers and theyre getting more during the day that you guys used to. Gee, I wonder why! You guys are pathetic!
Alot more corporate than they pretend to be.
I was in quick and easley. Only food store for a mile radius
Great service, helpful staff, fabulous healthy food
I love this place they are very helpful when you cant find what you are looking for, and very nice 😊
Alot of great stuffgreat foods &. fresh fruits
Hands down the driest Turkey sandwich I have ever purchased.
Great selection. Could be more welcoming than they advertise, but Im used to it.
Love stopping by. Appreciate the local produce and local breads and pies. Yum.
Great salad here at the co-op!
All their garlic is from china. I join the co-op so that I could buy high quality ingredients, not cheap garbage from china. I will not be shopping there again.
Local, fresh, innovative and tasty. If I am shopping for a week or looking for something to fix that night the Co-op remains my best go to market. All options are good. Appreciate the local designation when appropriate. Plus when I have a question, there is a person with deep knowledge or the ability to look it up. I also like the ability to electronically use my coupons at checkout.
There are a lot of items stuffed into this relatively small shopping space. But, most of the grossly processed and sugary atrocities that some consider to be food, are absent from the shelves of this organic and local first grocery store. The bulk section really is top notch. Most items are organic and from clean sources, just try a couple nuts, seeds and dried fruits here then go to another local grocer and try their bulk nuts and youll understand immediately the difference in quality. The hot food and salad bar always has high quality and nutritious food offered for breakfast lunch and dinner, everyday. 3 rotating soups daily. The deli has equally high quality cold salads, made to order sandwiches, coffee drinks etc.The prices here are undoubtedly higher but they offer a program called coop basics which are commonly purchased, everyday items, that are at very competitive prices to common grocers, but tend to have a better overall quality and are more commonly organic. At the very least shopping in the produce section is worth the trip alone. They will run it off stuff sometimes for sure, but again the quality is top notch and the average produce price is maybe 10% higher.Coop membership equals better weekly, monthly, and quarterly deals. Members receive a portion of the money they spend in store back, one a year in the form of a check, generally paying for the $100 membership within the first year or 2.Theres a lot more that can be said but just go check it out.
We are so lucky to have this excellent co-op in our community. It is highly responsive to community needs and both locations serve neighborhoods with various challenges. It’s so good they are both accessible to those who live in those neighborhoods. I am always very inspired and proud to hear about all the wonderful things the co-op has been doing and contributing during the course of the year when I attend the annual members’ meeting each October. Please patronize this wonderful and important business at both locations. We all do better when we all do better.
We have as be been shopping at the Co-op for 35 years. We have always appreciated the friendly staff, the great selection of food and the produce. I can’t say enough good things about the Co-op.
First time there nice place, staff is friendly and helpful.
A great grocery store located on the East Hillside. The store is open to everyone. You dont have to be a member/owner to shop here. Most of the products are organic. An awesome variety of bulk items including coffee. The deli and hot bar is top notch. if you shop here regularly become an owner...it has benefits.
This a great store to shop for organic foods and the down home convenience store environment 👌
Love this place! So many unique foods to discover
I asked the person at the front desk whether they had bottle openers they helped me look, and when they couldnt find one they gave me one off their own keychain, despite my protestations. Above and beyond service, thank you again.
Very small tight nit store. I often feel there is not enough room in between the aisle. However they have a great selection of a variety of things one might want in their home as a conscientious consumer. Their bulk section is great. I love that everything is either fair trade, organic, vegetarian, vegan or holistic
Nice place. Expensive. Great for bulk and specialty diet. Lots of wealthy white people.
Im sorry but this is not Indian food. Better restaurants in Thunder Bay and much better in India. Not fresh. Lamb was definitely not lamb It was definitely beef. Would not recommend it for sure. Only people from India will be able to tell you this is not Indian cuisine. Very bad food. Staff and chef were so rude and racist. Worst experience :(
The Co-op is the best place in Duluth for health and environment-conscious foodstuffs. The deli prepares delicious grab and go options, a hot food bar, and a sandwich bar with sandwiches made to order. The shop the outer ring of the store rule does not apply here! Wholesome options are the only options in the store. Products are locally sourced and consequently exceedingly fresh. As if anything could make this place better, the staff is friendly and helpful.
Love this place. I love apples and fruit in general. I eat out for lunch and breakfast because of my job. Healthy food is a must for me now and then. I get it here. They also have a place to sit and eat along with the cleanest and environmentally friendly restrooms in town. Thumbs up from this cab driver.
Covid has effected everything in our lives. On order items popping up on shelves more and more.
The co-op isnt the kind of place that I think everyone should go to, but definitely a solid option for people that embrace a healthier lifestyle. Granted, I think everyone should consider healthy options in life, though the environment can seem a bit odd for a typical consumer. It has that sort of earthy, Mother Gaia feel to it, but youre still fully aware that youre in a grocery store. Bottom line is, its whole foods, so it kinda speaks for itself. The customer service is delightfully pleasant though; quite the welcoming bunch for sure.
Food for a healthy body and family friendly for a comfortable soul. This Co-op offers a terrific treat of fresh fruit for children and grandchildren everyday; whats not to love about that! We were blessed to visit GM during their Holiday Open House. It was a joyful occasion with live music, jovial chatter and delicious home baked cookies, scones, sausage, cheese and crackers...simply organic-simply the best!
Nice selection of organic local food. Coffee shop is inside as well.
Customer service is always excellent. I LOVE that they compost, recycle, and use minimal packaging and biodegradable containers. I hear a lot of people say they are too expensive, but I think some of them would be surprised at how many affordably-priced items they do have. You just have to look around a bit. For instance, bulk items can be a big cost-saver. Another really important thing to me is fair-trade products!
Ad the opportunity to sample a variety of menu items. The food is very flavorful and has a nice heat. I would eat there more often if it were closer to me.Its good for groups because you can share or eat all of it by yourself~!My favorite was the chicken dishes and the goat curry. Please try the flaky thin bread.. Its delicious~
I am so happy to have this store available for my organic and bulk shopping needs! I always find something new to add to my shopping basket ☺. They have a pretty nice selection of produce, frozen foods, and their deli has a nice variety of hot and cold foods. The store and shelves are always kept neat and organized. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I like the addition of the variety of classes they offer too!
Its a bit pricey to go here but they have a huge variety of things. If you want things organic, all natural, vegetarian, or vegan you will be able to find most of it here. They have the best tasting carrots, and apples that Ive ever had. Theres a large isle with cereal, grain, seeds, and nuts you can put into bags and use to make your own nut butter. If you need to fill large wayer jugs they have a dispenser for it. Homemade butter and many kinds of cheese. They even have a hot food bar with fresh dishes up and soups. Its a very different kind of place and its lovely
Nice sites in new section with a view of Lake Superior. The sites are tiered for the view but Im concerned that they have planted young trees in-between the rows which will eventually block views of the lake. Our site on top row was noisy because of gas station, which is behind last row. People were nice at check-in.
Smelled delicious right as I walked in the door!Really impressed me and my husband.Clean store, quality produce, wonderful self-serve hot food/soup and salad bar.Cheerful and courteous staff!Just a wonderful gem tucked into this corner! We will definitely be back!
A wide selection of foods and herbs and other health related items.Though they seemed to be priced above the value of the merchandise. We had a bit.of a.challenge cashing out. The cashier needed to be more observant with who should be served first. The next cashier could have been more friendly.
Love this market. Prices are a bit high, but they have quality products. We have been members for a long time. Staff is always very helpful and the on-site classes are very good.
If you are coming from out of town the name will throw you as you are expecting the national chain grocery store. This, instead, is a delightful co-op that offers wonderful produce, lots of wonderful vegan options, and other diet specific foods and is well maintained, very clean, great selection and very nice deli/hot food bar. The only thing I would recommend, unlike almost every other co-op in the country (I travel full time and always search for co-ops) they do not offer the co-op discount to folks who have a membership in their hometown. Still its a great place to shop.
My wife and I have been to both locations many times, and love them both. The remodel at the Hillside location makes things so much better! The great selection of local items, cheeses, coffee, and chocolate make shopping here a no-brainer.
Amazing organic deals.the store IS a tight squeeze. very narrow isles.the food here IS SO GOOD. and organic!!!! better than any restauraunt around
Everyone is very friendly and they have everything you need for your organic products.
Well organized store but can be a challenge to find a staff member to ask a question to. The store sends out a lot of coupons which makes the shopping experience more enjoyable on the checkbook. Their bakery and fresh, hot item case always smell tempting!
One of the best grocery stores in the Duluth area. If you are looking for those hard to find organics, locally made foods, and/or more gourmet items for those exotic dishes, this might be the place to start. Super friendly staff, and reasonable Co-op level prices.
Good selection of food that is healthier and some organic. Also good source for vegetarian options. The prices are set too high though. I can get boca crumbles for $1.50 less at larger grocery store near my house.
I have been going here for the past year 2018 & now 2019. with 2 locations in the Duluth area you can just about find anything Organic...............great idea for joining a group of like minded folks............great savings and always have some items on sale.Keep Up the Good Works
Organic food for great prices !!! Even organic hot and ready food! If you cant find an organic restaurant, go here! It wont swallow your wallet, its delicious, and its healthy for you ( : what a great stop. I got the curry!! YUM
I appreciate the fresh choices in the produce department and the helpful, awesome staff!
Rude and self absorbed employees.
Just became a member and we love it! We finally found our co-op! They have all the brands that are hard to find around here. Staff is amazing as well!
Very good customer service, the only bad thing is how small the store is
We were visiting Duluth and went here for a quick lunch after skiing. They have a nice salad bar, soups, a large selection of healthy deli salads, and a hot sandwich bar. Highly recommend for a cheap and healthy lunch while visiting
Got the chicken Union tacos. It was as bland as bland gets... Seemed like zero seasoning... The kids ordered chicken fingers, and the server said they were low on ketchup. I walked to the register and asked for ketchup - the guy gave it to me no problem (there was a shelf full of ketchup!). Anyway, I was here years ago and liked it... Not sure if I changed or they did...
This store is very good if you have membership just for $100 for lifetime. Its convenient if you are planning to go there more often. Deals are good with quarterly discount coupons, magazines and recipes...
Feels right to buy in bulk, local, fresh foods. Supports sustainable living with less (packaging, waste, room to store waste, funds and time to care and pay for space- if that makes sense).Find my family healthier, more satisfied and somehow more connected to our food when we shop there.Staff are great, helpful, and very personable.
Been shopping here for years. Produce is always fresh and have some great seasonal deals. Found a lot of interesting things I haven’t found at other groceries stores, and a really great place for those with food allergies/ diet restrictions. Recommend to anyone!
Half the bad reviews appear to be from people confusing it with other businesses.I love the juxtaposition of this store -- clean, healthy, overpriced -- and the convenience store right next door -- dirty, greasy, cheap. Great combo if youre passing though.
Best place to grocery store for quality food in Duluth. Other places might have some high quality, but here, I know that it has been properly vetted so that I can trust it. The staff is not as knowledgeable as at a Whole Foods Market (no affiliation) but they are better than most grocery store employees
Its a co-op. Great local foods and organic food. Bulk goods are extremely fresh. Fun crowd makes for a great shopping experience. Stop by, you will find something to buy.
Tasty sandwiches to go and rustic inn cafe pies!
Fresh, local organic produce available. Delicious fresh made items on the hot bar for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great place to run for a quick healthy bite!
Not the cheapest place on many things, but a good selection of natural and organic foods. This location can be a bit busy, but all the staff is nice and friendly and the parking lot is decent sized. Love that its a co-op.
Friendly atmosphere, friendly staff, great deli options, and its a co-op! Always happy to visit co-ops as we travel and this one was a great place to stop. Highly recommend!
Ive only been here a couple times and the selection has been great and most of the staff have been very kind and helpful. But this last particular trip was a bit rough. The cashier seemed very annoyed that she had to ask me to take the stuff out of my basket, (which I had no problem doing.) and I didnt even know I was supposed to do that as this had been only my third trip, first time with a basket. She talked to me as if I was a toddler. I didnt get to bagging my own stuff as I didnt have much and was just waiting to pay first. She then proceeded to roughly slam everything into the bag, and didnt ask if I wanted my receipt before shoving the bag at me. No good day, no thank you, nothing. Ive worked in customer service several years. I understand people have bad days. But as a pretty much new customer, this made me hesitant to come back, as I was already a bit nervous being in the store as a newbie!
For Duluth the prices arent bad. They have a decent of healthy food mixed in with others. Staff is always helpful! They also have a salad bar and food bar.
Organic food is not cheap! They dont have any dandelion burdock fentemens soda anymore.Good luck getting a loaf of bread from the coco bakery in Wisconsin...They say it comes in Saturday and Monday I go there almost every day of the week sometimes and Im lucky to get bread once a month.
Best employees I have ever come across. Prices are great, especially when you shop in the bulk section, get as much or as little as you want! Co-ops are extremely important, and supporting this local business also supports the community.
This COOP is incredible and a hidden treasure. Food is organic, deli is great and food options are as they should be.Would recommend.
If you get the weekly sales, its the same price to grocery shop here as anywhere else. Plus the food is local and you rarely have to worry about whats IN your food. The staff is all super friendly and this location has the best selection of items throughout any of the others. You dont have to be a member (Im not) and they dont make it weird. Plus theres a coffee bar here!
This place has always been great. Great foods, awesome staff. Well-maintained.
Well stocked, community supply of healthy food and personal items. Organic foods. Wide selection. Friendly staff. Actually attended by concerned knowledgeable employees. Fresh.
Whole foods Co-op is the best source in Duluth for local, organic, and fair-trade groceries. They have a huge selection of bulk nuts, grains, flours, and nutritional supplements. They stock a wide variety of branded organic foods, and fresh produce. They also have an outstanding deli serving breakfast and a rotating list of delicious lunch and dinner options. It is important to note that the Whole Foods Co-op is not the Whole Foods Market which is now owned by Amazon. The Co-op is a locally run healthy foods grocery that has been in Duluth since 1970. The ideal cooperative business model applies ethical and sustainable practices and takes into account the economic and environmental impacts on the community. The Whole Foods Co-op is a primer example of this philosophy and goes well beyond the role as a local supermarket and supports local artists, produces. The Co-op was the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building in Duluth and is also holds the Energy Star rating.
They have rearranged products/aisles. Was fun to look for what my daughter and I was looking for. Great Co-op!
Not as big as other whole foods but still a whole foods none the less!
Great place for healthy good options. They also have a buffet and is a great place to eat lunch.
Very good place for grocery 🛍 in Duluth, MN🍀🤗
Amazing selection for a small store. Mostly great prices too. And the pizza in the deli? Wow, cant beat that crust.
This is the only place in Duluth that I will stop for groceries. They have amazing baked goods and many delicious and healthy options. What I like best, however, is I can tell the employees are happy to be working there because of the pleasant atmosphere and higher wage.
Love this place!! I can find anything and everything organic and non GMO my family needs food, hygiene, cleaning products, dog food, the works!! They have the healthy foods I look for but cant find other places!! But the downside is they are pretty spendy!! Usually worth it I rather have quality than quantity!!!!
Beautiful organic produce, generous natural bulk section, and friendly staff. I like that they stock local bakery goods but I cant say that the local bakeries are very good. Would also be nice to have a local fresh fish catch, but there is no fresh fish here.
Ive been a member of this store for about 8 years, though have shopped here for many more. I appreciate the nice selection of food and nonfood items here, and the quality of fresh produce and bulk items. My preference is the newer store in Denfeld because it is closer to where I live, has more room for parking and moving around in the store (which can be a plus for people with disabilities), and for some reason the staff seem to be far friendlier and more approachable than my experience with staff at the Hillside location. I often come to this store to find items like kombu, agar flakes, wild caught local fish, bulk grains such as millet, faro, buckwheat groats that can be hard to find in mainstream supermarkets. The deli always has a nice selection for a variety of dietary needs and wants. The bread selection is awesome! Produce is more expensive but labeled nicely and you know what you are getting.
Whole Foods Co-op is a fantastic place to shop; full selection of groceries, emphasizing organic, local and sustainable. Hands down best Produce in town. Deli hot sandwiches a great lunch option!
