This is the perfect local eatery whether you live down the street or are looking for something to eat on your way through town. The Old Custard Stand reminds me of my childhood. There was a stand just like this in my hometown that you walk up and order, usually staffed by local high school students. They offer only their flavors of the day along with traditional favorites of chocolate, vanilla, and butter pecan. Each recipe is unique to them. This makes every visit a treat where you discover new flavors or check their flavor calendar for your favorite and make plans to visit.Their food menu works similar I believe, where they have options that remain the same and some limited time offerings. These are also their own recipes.I love this as it makes ordering so easy and the small menu is their most popular items so youll always get something delicious! This stand has become an important part of our familys back-to-school tradition. We take our children to the school to look at the class lists posted outside, see what classes their friends are in and they discover who their teacher will be. Then we stop at The Old Custard Stand for dinner and desert. So many special family memories center around food, like turkey at Thanksgiving, and The Old Custard Stand becomes part of our family every August. As far as COVID-19 safety, as a walk up stand there has always been minimal contact with the workers and the windows where you order open only half way, bottom-up, so there is a barrier between your face and your hosts.
Our first visit here tonight after a long day moving into our new house and we couldnt have been happier with our food and service. The employees were bright and friendly even after 8 pm and the sundaes we got...?DIVINE!One Strawberry Cheesecake and a Chocolate Covered Strawberry and we were happy campers. This was the best custard we have had in a long time and our dog LOVED his Pup Cup!15/10, do recommend and cant wait to go back again!
Always a treat! The service is always great and fast. I was unsure on a flavor and they let me have a sample. Great price, great flavors, and great service. You cant go wrong with The Old Custard Stand, especially on a hot day like today!
Nice outdoor seating. Chicken salad was good. My aunt enjoyed her taco in a bag, her first ever. Glad we could enjoy a meal together here.
I have never eaten here before until today. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and onions rings. The onion rings were homemade and so was the chicken salad. Both were the best Ive ever had and the price was right! I will definitely go back.
Best Ice Cream place in Hamilton County, hands down. Ive been coming here for 15+ years, and theres not a single time Ive ever been disappointed. 1000/10
I really enjoy sitting out here and taking my time with family to eat the frozen custards. It has nice trees and benches. It tastes like a cross between yogurt and gelato. Not too sweet but refreshing. I had their croissant chicken salad this time and it was really good. I highly recommend coming here when it is sunny out and eating here!
Great custard! My girlfriend and I were so excited for the seasonal reopening. You really cant go wrong with any of their flavors, and they have the most interesting flavors of the day (heres looking at you, purple cow). Drive thru and outdoor seating available to enjoy some dessert with your dairy-loving friends.I normally come here for dessert so I havent been able to try any of their food menu options yet.
Amazing frozen custard. I had the lemon which was excellent. My wife got a fudge sundae and my daughter got a mint shake. Well definitely make the drive from our home in Sheridan to go back!
Although its a little pricey, the service was wonderful. Very polite, cheerful..... Id chime back just because of the friendly service. 4 stars only because of pricing but... maybe its worth it 😊
The perfect summer spot for frozen treats and my favorite taco in a bag but everything i have had has been very good this is our go to spot
Their ice cream and their sandwiches are delicious. Unfortunately, none of the employees were wearing masks when I went there. I dont care if the mask mandate has been lifted, the coronavirus is still raging. Not wearing a mask demonstrates that youre completely unconcerned about the safety of your customers. Its the tiniest amount of effort and you couldnt even do that.
The Old Custard Stand has the best flavored sodas in town!! Its our favorite seasonal go-to.
Very good custard. Had Butter Pecan. Loaded with pecans and very tasty
This is a classic in Fishers. I went in the middle if the afternoon to avoid the lines and still had to wait. I got a massive to dip cone and really enjoyed it.
Family loves this place, excellent flavors and definitely a unique taste. A++
The owners don’t deserve 1 star. Learn manners and respect EVERY customer helping to pay your bills. Belittling and making fun of a customer with a disability? Shame on you. I’ll never return to this place. Disgusting owners.
Great waffle cones! The key like pie custard was delicious!
The employees were not being professional in the slightest.
Always a favorite, love the cherry shake and various flavors of tornadoes.
This custard stand is almost the best Ive EVER had! Itsrich, creamy, dreamy and perfectly sweet.🥰 (Im a foodie, so I know my food!!! 😉) ..The surprise is that not only do they have a variety of sundaes, scoop custard, shakes, malts, snow cones (with ALL of the delightful flavors 😋), but they have FOOD!!! (Chicken Salad Sandwiches, Subs, and other favorites to temp your palate!!) ..this stand allows for walk-up service, dine outside service and drive-thru!! What also makes this stand a treasure is the customer service..its impeccable!!! So go ahead..get crazy with your concoction of flavors and dig in!!! Bon Appetite!!! 😀
I scream, You scream, we all scream... and why do we scream? wait this is just some good custard! That is all... unless its not all.
Service is poor. Ordered food for lunch then waited at window for what felt like ever, was made eye contact with, and then staff turned around. Just wanted to order dessert for kids. Literally one other group of people here, not like they were busy.No bathrooms. No indoor seating. Uncomfortable concrete tables. Poor service. Concession stand grade food. Won’t be back.
So good! A must try and they have a drive thru!😁
Couldnt wait for them to open!!! Good food especially ham salad, ice cream selection is always good with nice variety!!
Pretty good if youre into custard
Really good custard. Great locally owned custard location.
Loved the ice creams. ideal for this spring weather
I love this place and the service is always amazing!
Been going here since 2000. Our local favorite!!
My good place to go.
I do not like how they have a flavor like lemon only there on Fridays.
Great custard. Friendly employees. Usually go with the small hot fudge and strawberry Sundae (2 scoops of custard). Yesterday went with the Smores Sundae (only comes in one size). Sooo good!. My husband always gets the Root Beer Float. Enjoy!
Will miss it until they reopen.
I drove past this place for almost 20 years before actually stopping. Dont make the same mistake I did. It is open seasonally, but it will make your summer so much better. To think... A whole 20 years of lost calories and regrets I must now live with. Sigh...
The Old Custard Stand has a good selection that includes a wide variety of mix-ins. The menu runs from a single cup to a large Hurricane with mix-ins. Their custard is smooth and tasty. The people take the time to make sure each order is perfect.
I took my son here for the first time.He absolutely loved this place. He order a sloppy Joe and a strawberry milk shake.I ordered the turtle sundae.Let me tell you something, if you see this place and have a thought about trying it out you should do so.The best custard you will have ever tasted.
1st time to visit and ice cream was awesome!!
Tte strawberry shortcake is excellent
Favorite place to get a good, made right burger, custard, and more. Super friendly staff. Always a treat!
One of the very best
This is my wifes favorite place during the summer. The service is always friendly and they have great food! I recommend the chicken salad. Also they offer a wide variety of custards. If you havent been here this is a must visit in the area!
I have to start by saying I really enjoyed the Hot Fudge Brownie sundae that I had here. The reason why I am giving it 3 stars is because this place has an incredibly long wait time, I and my sister spent about 30 minutes to get through the drive-thru and her slushie was little more than juice when she got it. I enjoyed my dessert but, the wait time and my sisters drink not being what is expected makes me give this rating.
Great custard! But, it is really sad that they are not open all the time. Also, every time Ive visited, it felt like they were just trying to get me out the door and were kind of rude. I understand and appreciate the need to provide fast customer service but I wish they would not be as standoffish. Overall, a great ice cream stand though!
This place has arguably the best ice cream (custard really), in the city. Always have great service.
I got a sundae, for $7. it was tiny (like 2 scoops) and had a very light dusting of oreos that actually mostly blew away in the wind, maybe 5 pecans, and a very small amount of hot fudge. not worth it for the price.
Ice cream tasted bad like card board. Asked for a refund. I got push back from elderly lady that worked there. I asked for a refund and return the ice cream. She asked why? I said it tastes off like card board. She argued with me about how I taste. So I set the ice cream on the counter, said keep your money, I don’t want to eat here anymore and haven’t been back. I am willing to give places a second chance if the treat someone well in the least. But there are too many other places around that serve good ice cream, like Grater’s, to settle for anything.
Custard was super yummy! I had Irish Cream in a waffle cone and my husband got a Reeses Tornado with Chocolate. Super friendly staff. Would recommend!
I liked the price until I saw the size of the scoop. $3.50 for 2 scoops that are smaller than a golf ball. Its kind of a rip-off.
The old Custard Stand has lunch items and custard menu. The lunch items are nothing special, just basic sandwiches, except for the homemade chicken salad on a croissant. That is the best thing on the menu and it is excellent. They have seasonal custard items also, and I had the homemade peach cobbler, which was amazing.
Great custard
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! Great prices and food and most delicious custard yuuuummy!!! Customer service hands down is the best. Do not miss out on going here.
The Old Custard Stand has delicious flavored fountain Cokes! I think they are a little expensive but you cant find a true soda fountain drink in general area. The chicken salad is delicious too. Their staff is always kind. Its seasonal so check their website for hours.
Great place for a dog and some cool custard. Clean and friendly, courteous staff, top notch! Worth the trip!
Love the custard 😁
Got a peanut butter milkshake came home to find the peanut butter stuck at the bottom of the cup. Called Old Custard Stand to tell them of what had happened. The girl over the phone was extremely rude, didnt care, was blaming the tornado machine. I ended up speaking to the owner and she was no better. They lack problem solving skills and have 0 customer service skills.I guarantee my husband and I will never be going back here. Nor will we be bringing our guests to come try your crappy dessert. You guys truly, truly suck! Truly!
Delicious! 😋
Where to begin... Basically the best ice cream ever. They have a menu for the month on Facebook with lots of different flavors every day. My favorite is Pistachio (they put pistachios in it rather than almonds like most places). When they dont have that, I just discovered that their cobbler sundae is amazing!
The chili cheese dogs are the best I have ever had!
This place is hit or miss. If you go to the drive through you should note that you order at the window (no speaker system). There are always teenagers working here in the afternoons and they dont seem to have a strong concept of their product line. There have been times Ive been in the drive through line for 15+ minutes even when the standing window lines are moving smoothly. This is the only place I have found in the area that can make a chocolate coke the right way; this earned them two of the three stars in my rating.
This is quite possibly the best ice cream in the state. I saw this on my way to a wedding and just felt like I had to stop, and I am so glad that I did. My girlfriend got a scoop of the peach and I got a mixed Heath ice cream. The peach actually had fresh peaches and I probably ended up stealing half of hers, while also guarding mine from her.I will certainly be back and will likely make a special trip here with some friends later this summer.
Frieny people and awesome thick shakes. Like dummy level thick. My dads favorite place. Came out to visit from DC and ate there something like 8 times in 5 days. It was nuts.
We love this hometown favorite! Great custard and very reasonably priced. Try the Reesess lovers sundae!
The older lady had a bad attitude, very little flavors, chocolate was hardly considered chocolate, $5 minimum for a card purchase is sad for todays age, and the waffle cone got soggy fast and was very bland. I would recommend going to Culvers and Graeters before this place. Probably the worst ice cream Ive ever had. Dairy Queen does it better. Honestly, any other other ice cream place does it better than here. Chinese buffets have better ice cream.
I am here with my client with Autism. He asked if he could use card and the worker pointed to the sign and said “can you read?”.... She continued to be rude and short tempered with my client. On a positive note, the other worker was very pleasant and cheerful with him! :) the shakes were also delicious!
I ordered a waffle cone with black cherry ice cream and crunch coat. Thank god there was crunch coat because the black cherry was simply pink vanilla, and the crunch coat added the only flavor. The waffle cone was decent, but definitely not great and it was folded poorly which left a hole at the bottom and allowed all of my average pink ice cream to flow out of the bottom. I dont think Ill be going back any time soon - or ever.
Our favorite spot for a cold sweet treat!
The BEST custard around, hands down.
One of two local ice cream places that still actually knows how to make delicious chocolate chocolate sodas 😋
Lots of custard treat selections, tasty sandwiches too!
Family has been going here since i was a kid. So good, has something for every family member. brings back child good memories. I recommend the specialty sundaes or the chocolate soda!!
1. Don’t roll your eyes at customers.2. Clean your scoopers off between scoops.(That’s nasty that you don’t)3. If you’re hiring young girls make sure they are respectful.Always loved this place. But very displeased with today’s visit.
Had one scoop of their daily special cookies & cream, and one scoop chocolate - cookies and cream was sheer perfection (creamy, not-too-sweet, thick and delicious) while the chocolate was less creamy and more of a malt chocolate flavor - still good, but not as good as vanilla. Pricing on par or slightly less than Dairy Queen, which is well worth it for their superior quality! Waffle cone was light and airy, like a pizelle, very delicious! My new favorite frozen treat shop!
The chicken salad was good and the burger wasnt bad either.. I had good ice cream for dessert!
Choc ol late is very mild and just tastes like they added a bit if Hersheys syrup. Minimum charge us $5 on cards. Had to add a bottle water to get my double scoop.
The custard is good as long as they have a flavor you like. The selection is very limited; only 4 or 5 flavors were available the day we were there. There are only a few tables, and theyre abutting the parking lot, so its not a good place to meet and hang out, especially if you have children.
Got the Almond Joy sundae, it was good but overpriced. My friend got the Tornado and it was very watery and disappointing.Service was good and fast.
Tornadoes are really good. Sort of like a DQ blizzard but with a more homemade taste.
Went there to hit practice balls but could hit only from mats.
The custard is about on par with Culvers but what makes this a great spot is the staff and the price. And local is always best! #keepindyindie
Delicious food, always love to bike up their, totally recommend
Love to come here, the custard is amazing! They also serve food options like sandwiches and tacos. Great place to come for a quick treat.
I dont always eat frozen custard, but when I do its from here. I love their blended toppings. Its a great place to take the kids on a warm summer evening.
Homemade food and icecream-yummy
Wasn’t a fan. Had a simple ice cream cone but just should have went somewhere else
Frozen Custard always great. Homemade ice cream. Excellent service.Only open during summer to fall.
Its difficult not to see The Old Custard Stand as in decline, as our visits have gotten progressively worse over time. When available, the cookies & cream is their best flavor (and among the better ice cream flavors Ive tried), but their chocolate is lackluster. Other treats are hit-or-miss.Without doubt the biggest frustration is the service. Many of the high school kids spending their summers working the counter are obviously disinterested and would rather be elsewhere, and on more than one occasion I have stood at the window waiting for the phone to be put aside and my presence to be acknowledged. I cant blame this solely on youth - the Graeters just down the road employs young staff and they are always very pleasant and professional.Again, mixed feelings. At best the service is adequate and the treat delicious, but at worst, the service is bad and the food makes you wish for a McFlurry.
Put my order in for custard after I’d already eaten a sandwich and was told that I had to at least be five dollars to use my charge card I didn’t have any cash at all on me. Furthermore the chicken salad was more like egg salad one of the worst experiences that I’ve ever had I would never go back to this place and I would never recommend it.
EXCELLENT frozen custard ... a little on the pricey side but really great for an occasional treat! Cute location :)
Great treats on a hot day!
Very tasty! Great place to relax with a cool treat!
I got the German chocolate Sundae! It was delicious! If Im working in this area again, Im def trying the rice crispy treats Sundae!
Strawberry Cheesecake was the best!
Love this little place! Great ice cream and its not too expensive for a non-chain restaurant.
