Amazing coffee and delicious bagel breakfast sandwich that was really affordable. Great shop, highly recommended! Thanks!
On vacation from Florida and stopped at the Matador in the middle of the afternoon around 1:30 PM get a pick me up.My first impression… Mediocre. The coffee was fresh and tasted wonderful, but could’ve been hotter. It the wait staff was not very friendly or attentive. I gave it three stars for the coffee, but would’ve just rated it 2 stars or maybe even 1- for the service.
Loved this place! We found it 2 days before leaving Flagstaff (vaca). Coffee/lattes were awesome. We tried them as it was hassle to go to Starbucks and was very impressed. The Thin Mint and Raspberry White are the bomb.
Drinks and cookies were fine but the owner seriously needs to look at his staffing ratios. There were only two workers in the east side store. They were completely overwhelmed. They easily could have used one more person if not two. It took over 20 minutes for me to get two mochas. Also all the tables were pretty dirty because unsurprisingly the overworked Duo had no time to get out on the floor and clean. My time is important to me as Im not some hipster who spends 2 hours a day hanging out in coffee shops. Will not be returning.
Our wonderful Sunday (7/25/21) morning at the Old Town Shops of Flagstaff, Arizona; (thank you Chris at Brightside Books and all the fabulous people at Collins Irish Pub), was brought to an abrupt halt when we visited Matador Coffee Roasting Company. My partner wanted to go to Starbucks, and I have a love for that company, but, I try to support locals when I can--hence, our trip to Matador Coffee. Independent stores--why do you make it SO hard to support you?I wish I could share something, anything about our stop; the taste of the beverage or the aroma of the beans; but, since we were ignored--and I do mean ignored; not a look, glance, wink, head nod, hello, or goodbye, I have nothing.Actually, I have one thing. There is a cowbell on the counter, that says Ring For Service. My partner desperately wanted to ring it till the cows came home. But the barista, was directly in front of us, making a drink and refusing any form of eye contact or acknowledgment; I was intrigued by this level of detached indifference and attitude.I have a second thing: we got back on our bike and rode to Starbucks. We were greeted, met with smiles, and happily spent $60.00 on beverages, VIA’s, and ground coffee--(Komodo Dragon).Side Note: Shout out to the muralist whose work is featured on the outside wall of Matador Coffee. Knowing what we know now, we should have grabbed our photo and hit the road.
Yeah was not impressed. Bought beans for french press and the girl had to ask me which grind to use for a french press - if youre going to have someone work a pricey craft coffee place they should know this. Beans ended up being very average, at best. Service was slow. My wife had a latte and said it was good.
Breakfast sandwiches and burrito was very good and large portions. The coffee was also good. Staff was freindly and quick service.
I was surprised by how many people rate this place well. Their coffee is mediocre at best. When you can say that Starbucks makes a better cup of cappuccino than a local shop, thats a problem...The drive-through is the only option due to the pandemic, but service was efficient and very friendly. This is probably the only reason why I gave this coffee shop an extra star, because besides that their coffee was pricey and not very good. I would pick another coffee shop next time.
Honestly the coffee tasted really good and the drinks were made quickly. the barista was friendly and helped recommend drinks to my liking. i have no service in the area so i decided to use the wifi from in the shop while i waited for my girlfriend at the dispensary next door. i’m sitting on the purple couch and there’s dozens of flies buzzing around. i get up because i’m semi grossed out for a second and see some DEAD flies on the couch and i could only be horrified and picturing my hair sitting on them. i work in the restaurant industry this isn’t okay, i feel gross about drinking my coffee now
Friendly staff. Great coffee. I always stop here when heading to Horseshoe Bend or Antelope Canyon.
I loved this little coffee shop. I asked the woman taking the order what he favorite drink was and ordered it! It was just what I needed for my drive back to town. Thanks!
Went during a busy time this evening and the young girl with the brown hair and ponytail working inside was hustling! There was a lot of people waiting and this girl seemed to be by herself and making it work. When I got to the window I was greeted by her polite attitude and my delicious drink. Great service and great drinks!
Dirty Chai and breakfast burrito are always perfect before a hike.
Great service...wonderful atmosphere...good prices
The coffee is only slightly better than what I make at home, but I would recommend trying this place solely for their breakfast sandwich, which is large and delicious. Its like a Whopper sized breakfast sandwich. They have a really cheap special on Mondays to get the breakfast sandwich with some plain coffee. Totally worth it.
We camped outside of Flagstaff and woke up jonesing for some coffee. When I saw this place roasted their own coffee, I decided to give them a try. It has a nice little cafe feel, though there is presently no seating as they are observing covid precautions. The service was friendly and prompt, the food was good and fresh, and the coffee was as delicious as hoped! I even bought a bag of beans to take home with me. As an alternative to Starbucks, this is a great choice and way fresher than its corporate counterpart. The coffee roaster is right in the middle of the dining room, and you just cant beat coffee this fresh!
Sabrosa and always friendly.
The girl at the counter was very nice but they were out of all of the food options...I mean everything! There were only 2 options for coffee beans!
Great place, not going to knock them for still having the lobby closed as its time to open. But others have differing opinions and its not right to punish them for thinking differently than me.
Awesome... great fresh brewed coffee and scones from scratch... mmm, mmm, GOOD!
Enjoyed my black coffee
Only open for take out, they have great coffee.
Great breakfast burritos and drinks! However hard to find a place to park because of the people getting their drugs at the weed store.
I like their coffee, but today I got a mexican mocha. When I was finish I drank something that felt like a lugi(spit). I felt between the my palette and tongue. It had that consistency. It was to late. A white lady made that coffee for me. I mean I tipped her. And nice. Maybe it because I am brown. I am just confused.
Had some breakfast blend and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Been around the world, and I,I,I love theyre Americano...
Good, quality stuff. Little pricey, yet not unmanageable.
Great burrito and coffee at a great price.
Mexican altera! Yumm!
Service is always timely even when they have a full house. The staff was very helpful and welcoming.
Best coffee ever! Your missing out if you stand in line at that starbucks place with the over roasted hype! Get yourself a real cup of coffee from the best! Thank you Matador!!
We are team truck drivers . After a hard day we stopped at this location (12 July 4pm ). Wanted to get some coffee and get some fresh roasted beans before we continue our essential service to the country .The store was closed and they were only taking orders at the drive thru.We were outside, standing on the curb but the girl ordered us to put a mask on what we didnt have as we had to leave our truck in the parking lot and walk to this store. We were not in the store ! We were outside! But she still refused to serve us .We saw her serving a customer in a car, in front of us without a mask on . When we mentioned she didnt care .This is discrimination!!Shame on businesses like this !
Super weak, I ordered a black and white with an extra shot of espresso and it doesnt even taste like its a coffee drink let alone any hint of espresso. MAKE YOUR COFFEE STRONGER PLEASE.
Whats with the operating hours?? Open at 7am but no closing time?? This place looked open at 5:50 pm lights were on inside and the signs were lit... but waited at the drive up for 5 min....
The whole beans were great and well balanced (Grand Canyon Roast), but I can only give 3 stars because of the customer service. I dont know if management likes to run a small crew to save money or if someone called out sick on Thursday morning, but I walked in, picked up a bag of beans and then waited 6 minutes before someone could ring me up. No one was in line in front of me. There were only 3 customers there waiting for food and drink. If I want an espresso or sandwich in the future Ill head to Starbucks. If I want whole beans to go, Ill go back to Matador.
I absolutely love this place. The bulletproof coffee is delicious and so are the breakfast sandwiches (their sausage is amazing). They are always super nice and they even give out free donuts sometimes. I miss Matador when I leave town because all the other coffee shops are just...meh. Love love love this place.
Friendly staff, the coffee seemed a little over roasted.
I ordered a 20 oz cappuccino and when i received my drink it was 40% coffee and 60% foam. Not only did i feal swindled out of my money but my taste buds felt cheated too. Thats why you got 1 star for your expensive cup of foam.
One of my all time favorite coffee shops, we stop by every time were in flag
Love the coffee, and scones. The service is great too.
Convenient, easy parking off Route 89. Clean, organized. Keeps the creamer refridgerated. Coffee is very good. Ordered a breakfast burrito (breakfast anytime, thats always a plus) and it was delicious. Big, hearty, wonderful salsa, hot. Come here.
Please go here instead of Starbucks. The food is good, the coffee is roasted properly and the employees make what you ask property. Ive never been disappointed. Try it sometime instead of the corporate monger.
Their whiskey barrel coffee is unique and great, excellent idea.
Coffee wasnt to bad. Quick service.
Great tea
Great service good coffee and the food was excellent. Hand prepared and very hot. This really hit the spot. Thanks great job ladies.
Banana peanut butter shake ...amazingly delicious!
Chai was so weak. Tasted just like hot milk. Friendly service though. Good bullet proof coffee.
Great coffee and very tasty breakfast burro
The friendly staff keeps me coming back, and the coffee is really good. I especially like the dark roast. It isnt bitter, and I find that I use less sugar with their dark roast than I do with other companies regular roasts.
Too many lines at other coffee shop drive thrus...pulled in here, ordered, and received our water, coffee and smoothie under 10 min!Bonus - other variety of coffees, sandwiches and snacks inside!
Great, strong coffee. Perfect for a break during long road trips. Enjoyed the perfect coffee without all the artificial things found elsewhere ( Starbucks!!)
Not exactly third wave coffee, this place has personality but not the barista chops Id like to back it up. For instance, your lattes start at 12 oz. - A store for the starbucks generation who still wants to buy local.
Good place
Excellent coffee beans and good hot coffee
My new can’t-live-without coffee! Enjoying the Colombian roast here in the mountains of Arkansas this morning, where I can’t decide which is better—-the aroma or the flavor! Glad I don’t have to choose. 😉 A resounding shoutout to Olivia for those fabulous iced mochas while we were visiting Flagstaff recently. See you in 3 weeks!
I love the americano, tasty! Try the breakfast burrito, really good.
Beats Starbucks and Dutch Bros every time. On place in town that I can get a Bulletproof coffee!
Driving through Arizona, Im glad I looked thus place up. Had the black and white latte and the raspberry truffle latte, both iced, both great. More on the dessert side than straight up coffee, but delicious.
Delicious, friendly, what more do you need in a coffee shop? I love that they do their own roasting, to me that just elevates their expertise.
10 minutes in drive thru. Got to the window and had not even started my drink. Even though the Thin Mint is a great drink, not worth a 15 minute wait. I left without getting my drink. Not first time this has happened.
Such an awesome place to just hangout drink some coffee grab a quick meal I love it here! The staff is super friendly and always makes you feel welcome. Best coffee in all of AZ! Hands down
The hot chocolate was really good. Smoothies were okay, they were super sweet. Its a cute little place.
Great coffee, great service! Nice atmosphere and good specials. The chai latte is delicious.
The people there are very good at making coffee and customer service
Amazing service, great coffee. Perfectly balanced drinks, nothing too sweet or bitter. On wyeekends the coffee is on sale 2 bags for 20! Amazing customer service.
Matador has the absolute best coffee that I’ve ever had in Flagstaff! Plus the workers are super friendly :)
I buy their beans quite often! Great deals on Fridays. Latte is a bit sweet, so remember to get half flavor in it.
Good place, nice friendly employees..good location (for my purposes)..and oh yeah! Great coffee..
They roast theyre own beans, really low acidity, very good coffee. Cool environment, nice people. Highly recommend.
Great breakfast burritos!
Workers were very friendly and helpful! They have about the same prices of Starbucks but give you alot more and it tastes great:)
Good brews. Plenty of parking. A good place to grab a cup of joe or teas.
Great coffee at a very reasonable price
Fine service! Good tasting coffee! Will head back each time I can
Coffee and food what more could a person need! Easy menu with nothing to complicated. The Local Love is amazing!
Their coffee is QUALITY. The Hunka Burnin Love is to die for.
Great coffee, great staff!! One free refill on drip coffee too! How can it get better?!
Meh, no hot 16oz drinks. Only two shots in a 20oz which is the same as what comes in a twelve. Hmm how bout some Expresso with your 18oz of hot milk, but you gotta pay more. Mocha tastes burnt.
Ordered a large iced mocha and it was only about 3/4 full. Breakfast burrito appears to be made with fake eggs. Disappointing since the two items cost nearly 13$. Wont be coming back..cant afford to. Staff is really pleasant.
Friendly service and good coffee. Cant beat that.
Good coffee but I showed up at 330 to see that they are closed. Hours listed says they are supposed to be open until 6pm... boo.
Good but pricey ($3 americano 😒) coffee
Great local coffee spot!
Place was clean, servers were friendly, coffee was disappointing. My coffee choice is often an Americano. A pet peeve I have with a lot of our local coffee places is that an Americano should be approximately one shot espresso to 4 ounces of water... here, if you order an Americano, the small is two shots of espresso, the large is two shots of espresso with just a bunch more water, so you pay a lot more for a crappier cup of coffee.... Its frustrating to drive off and find that you just paid a lot of money for a cup of coffee flavored water..
Food, coffee and service was all pretty good.
Next to the coffee the smiling staff ALWAYS brightens my day! Great coffee Great atmosphere!
The best coffee in town!! If you havent tried it, you havent lived!! Its a Flagstaff must have
Awesome coffee, great breakfast menu.... the music is REALLY LOUD, but other than that it a first class coffee co.
Hit and miss. The food lately has had freezer burn taste
I so love there burritos and coffee
Awesome fresh roasted beans for the coffee extraordinaire
Drive through was fast and accurate
Great atmosphere and great coffee!!
Great coffee, needs a more visible sign!
The coffee is very weak. Wont go back.
