This was the easiest, most efficient car buying experience I have had. The staff went out of their way to be courteous, nobody tried to pressure us into making a purchase, and the entire process of test driving three cars and completing our purchase only took 4 hours. We went home with the car that day. That has never happened in the past.

I’m trying to get my car registered over 2 months. I purchased my car at CarMax Frederick MD, I wasn’t able to register and get my license plate, because the store didn’t send my title to the dmv, I was told, that they had an intern problem and my documents wasn’t sent to the dmv after 2 months, now they said they’ve sent it, but I should be calling in 1 week to check on them.. and get to know witch location my title has Been sent to. I has been 14 days trying to call them to see if my documents has been sent yet, but not answer… everyone seems to do care at all! I am really disappointed because I was dealing with a employee named Sunny, he said I should reach him out to check on my documents, but I’ve tried to reach him out over 13 times, calling and leaving messages, he never came back . Please I would like to get assistance with that.

I had my 2007 Ford Freestyle appraised on 10/25. I had the Transmission COMPLETELY. Rebuilt in 2019.Carmax appraised my SUV worth $1,600 at $300 saying the transmission doesn’t shift correctly when driven.My SUV has a CVT transmission. You physically do not feel the car shift when driving!

We came into CarMax with an online offer and we’re very upfront with the lady at the desk - providing her with the offer, our payoff, and additional information she needed. Then the wait. When the appraised value came back we asked why it was off by almost $2k and the lady said she didn’t know that we had an online offer. The overall process completed but we waited WAY longer than everyone around us as well as the people that came in right in front of us to the point where there was a shift change and the young man that came onto his shift had to pick up everything and turned it around for us very quickly. The online offer was ultimately accepted, which we appreciate, but the amount of time we waited without any update or communication about what to expect next was unacceptable. Overall time to complete our transaction was 3 hrs and I’d say that was 2 hrs too long.

Ive purchased a car from Carmax before. It was relatively smooth, the only hiccup came when I tried to pay my down payment. I had to jump thru a few hoops with my bank because Carmax do not accept credit cards, only debit and checks. I havent used checks in about 20 years LOL! Even still it was a success and I drove off happy.

Carmax was very good with shipping the vehicle, and keeping you informed of its progress. Where carmax fell short was licensed plate transfer. Im a veteran and I wanted to transfer my long-term licenses plates to my new vehicle and carmax could not help at all.The worst part of it all was they gave me the impression that as soon as the paperwork was in there hands they would send it to the MVA so the title process could be started. I even paid for that service and they sat on my paper work for a month. When I called the business office at the Frederick location I spoke with a Yule Wilson and he said to me...oh we dont send title work in right away because some people may bring the car back. I could not believe this. If I had known this at singing I would have made a different decision. My car buying experience should have no bearing on anyone elses. I told him directly I couldnt have spent over $300.00 dollars to ship a car then bring it back in a week.Carmax miss led me. There fore Coating me money....while they sat on my title work and lied and said they would expedite it to the MVA. They even charged me a 20.00 fee after I brought them the cashiers check that they left off the purchase order. Wow after paying almost $ 50,000.00 for a vehicle...they could have at least sent my title work on time not take a lazy approach and sit on it.Carmax what a let down and miss leading information...all I wanted to do was transfer tags.Now Im paying a fee for everyday I have to wait for their laziness... Because of what some people may do.

Absolutely fantastic experience working with Tom! When the car I originally planned on buying turned out to be too expensive he found a cheaper alternative that I ended up liking even better. Everyone down to the woman from the business office were friendly, easy to work with, and explained everything in detail.Unfortunately I had to return the car due to financial issues and the return process was made super easy. Josh(sales manager) and Sunny(business office) didnt treated me any different returning the car than when I purchased it.I will 100% come back to buy another car when I can afford one.

Vehicles on about 1/2 the lot said this car not for sale now. The salesman said that cause they are ready for sale from CarMax stand point but MD has not yet provided the title. Salesman was nice enough and friendly. We were just strolling around looking, liked no pressure from anyone and there were lots of folks strolling around looking. The cars are still too expensive, prices went way up once COVID restrictions were lifted even on used cars.

The few times Ive got someone on the phone theyve come off as nice, but they don’t actually seem to care or have any sense of urgency.

I recently sold my vehicle to Carmax in Frederick, MD. It was easy to get an offer online and set up an appointment. This was the only easy part of my experience.Once I arrived for my scheduled appointment I was told it would only be about 15 minutes. I was told this over and over again throughout the 90 minutes I was in the dealership. It took WAY longer than promised and the woman at the counter kept taking other customers before completing my sale paperwork. I asked repeatedly throughout each step how much longer it would be and was always told 10-15 minutes. However, this was not the case. I wish I had been given an accurate time estimate. My husband waited in the parking lot since I needed a ride home and it was a huge waste of time for both of us. I would have totally understood if the wait time was 90 minutes and I had been told that upfront. We live close by and would have been able to go home or run an errand while waiting for the paperwork to be finalized. Instead we were told just a few more minutes over and over so we felt like we couldnt leave.After the sale, I realized I had left my EZ pass in the vehicle. I called and was told the vehicle should still be at the lot and they would look into locating it and get back to me. 4 days later after hearing nothing from Carmax, I called back and was told to just cancel it because the vehicle was most likely gone. No one ever looked into locating the EZpass. No one ever bothered to call me back. I feel like they didnt care at all since I had already sold them my car. I was truly disappointed with my experience and would not recommend them to friends or family.

If I could give a 0 star review I would!! I went into this location Wednesday night looking to purchase a vehicle as well as trade in a vehicle. The salesman found the exact vehicle I was looking for in the back lot. After looking over the vehicle and getting some information it was too late for a test drive. Completely understandable. I was told there would be a 24 hour hold and I said I was going to come in the next day which I did. I talked with a new sales man and had my buyers order from the previous night. I test drove the vehicle and wanted to proceed with purchasing. The gentleman walks away to talk with a manger.... it turns out the vehicle they let me test drive WAS A TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER STORE AND A CUSTOMER HAD ALREADY PURCHASED THE CAR!!!! I was told that carmax would compensate the shipping fees for the same vehicle at another location and I was getting happier. After we had found one I liked I asked how long shipping would be and he said I cant make any promises. Again understood because of COVID. So then I asked him would I still be eligible for my trade at the price it was already appraised at. He said no. Even though after I go through with the transfer its a done deal. So I walked away and that was the last time you will ever see me in a CARMAX. How can you not know what vehicles are for sale and whats already purchased?!?!?! I am sorry to the customer that watched me test drive their vehicle right in front of them!

This review is for the Carmax in Frederick, Md. The Sales Team and the Repair Offices are both great. I give both of those depts 5 Stars. However I gave only 1 because of the Business Office. I would give them a 0 if possible. And that is sad because we have had a great experience buying our new vehicle with Carmax until we had to deal with the buisness office. And the only reason we needed to deal with them was to get an a new extended temp tag. Something that should be easy but instead has been very awful. So if you go to Carmax I would reccomend Tom in the sales dept. He is a very good salesman that is not pushy and gives his customers the time and help they need to find their perfect vehicle. Everyone in the repair dept has been great as well in helping us with a few little issues we found after buying our SUV. All of which they addressed quickly. However if you end up needing anything from the Buisness office and you start having problems I would suggest calling their main office in Richmond. As of now we still, a week later, do not have our replacement tag but after calling Richmond today I was assured that Fed Ex will be delivering. Fingers crossed lol

I would give negative stars if I could. Terrible experience with CarMax. I found the vehicle I wanted and they couldnt ship it to my state of Michigan for titling issues. They claimed it would be no issue. I flew out to maryland in June to buy the car and they gave me a temporary tag. I was suppose to get the title in 30 days from June 25thHere I am sitting almost 120 days later October 18th with no title, and my 3rd temporary tag! I keep getting unkept promises of when my title will come in. Now, they claim they submitted a request to the Maryland DMV to get a duplicate. I called the DMV from a number they gave me and the DMV has absolutely no record of this VIN being titled there or a request for a duplicate!At this point, I feel like they sold me a car with no title and I am just the middle man dead in the water waiting to have his car Repoed.This is beyond rediculious. At this point, I am at a loss for words. I am getting ignored, transferred and told empty promise after empty promise. I will never be purchasing a vehicle from CarMax again.

I just sold my car there.Pros:-They offered a decent price for my car, their check cleared, and Ill never have to think of that old car again.-Their lounge was fairly decnet and covid friendlyCons :-Youll notice the lounge because youll likely be sitting in it for a long time. After scheduling an appointment, the inital intake was nice, but waiting for the appriasing took forever and it took even longer to get someones attention that the appraisal was complete.

My personal opinion, from my personal experience. Go to Carvana to sell your car! They offer an upfront, accurate initial offer, and make selling your vehicle super easy! I took my 2016 Ford Escape to Carmax, classic “bait and switch” technique…offered $8800, yet went down to $6500 (stating my transmission was having issues)…LIES! I bet because Ford escapes are known to have those types of issues they just assume they can add that to reduce their final offer…but little did they know I just had my transmission rebuilt in March (not used junk yard transmission…actually rebuilt) at a proper shop that’s been in Frederick over 40 years, that comes with a 3yr/50,000 mile warranty {2.5 years/44k miles left to go on warranty, AND I’ve had no issues with my transmission over the last 6 months since it was rebuilt}. Also, when I had it appraised at two other companies just to see what their offers would be, not once were any transmission issues brought up with regard to my car’s value…that’s how I know Carmax was being deceitful, why didn’t either two of the other companies who appraised my vehicle mention that as a determining factor? Carvana didn’t bait and switch, they gave accurate initial offer, upheld it, and even made it easy by coming to pick up vehicle as opposed to me having to take it to them. I do not recommend you waste your time with Carmax, sell to Carvana for the max then take that check to buy a car…don’t let Carmax EXTRA lowball you through a system already rigged to low ball and take advantage of people.

Bought a Subaru Outback in July (got plate immediately), but salesman/service team said nothing about the car being part of an oil consumption defect class action suit. Returned it without much hassle, and purchased another newer Outback a week later...and Im still waiting on my plate/registration (over 45 days). On my second temp tag and no one in Biz Office seems to care or know where my tags are. DMV says Carmax should provide a tracking number to trace the transaction...but generally no one answers calls and when they do they dont have a clue. Customer service seems to end after you sign the bottom line. UPDATE: they sent my registration to the wrong state! Holy moly.

Covid-19 era review. Getting the vehicle to the location was a problem, see more on that below. But our in-person experience here was as pleasant as buying a car can be! Low pressure and we were given plenty of time with the vehicle. Both the sales and checkout staff were friendly and easy to work with. Everyone was also respectful of mask-wearing, etc.Only complaint was that when we initially requested to have the vehicle delivered to the location, nobody called us when it arrived. Due to an error in the system, when I called the automated response said it was still in transit. After THREE WEEKS of waiting, I finally decided to get in touch with CarMax. The customer service agent at the central office looked into it and apologetically told me what happened. Our requested vehicle had subsequently been shipped elsewhere but this agent had it sent back to Frederick for us and tracked it to make sure it went through. Kudos to her for being on top of it.

The experience was poor. I had completed an online appraisal and was satisfied with the dollar amount presented, it was more than other appraised amounts received. I went into the Frederick, MD location to complete the selling of my vehicle. It didnt take that long for one of the buyers to complete the physical inspection of the vehicle. Afterwards is when the issues arose. I suspect they had forgotten about me. Individuals who arrived after me, had come ang gone with payment in hand. I was told it shouldnt be long, despite see on the monitor my offer had been ready for hours at this point. Eventually, a someone in the business office was able to expedite things. However, he informed be the appraisal was a couple of thousand less than the online one received. I questioned it, he stated I had listed options that were not present. I refuted the statement and indicated they are clearly evident on the dash. No one ever put eyes on my vehicle again, but they came back as if they were doing me a favor and honoring the online appraisal amount. I suspect they tried pulling a fast one on me, but back pedaled when I caught them. It took 4 hours from the time I walked in, to have the check in my hand.

So, I bought a car here this past February (paid in cash). During purchasing, I paid a fee to have the title transfered to WV. A few weeks go by and the title I expected in the mail from WV DMV hadnt arrived, so I contact the DMV to make sure the mailing address is correct, giving them the title number I found on the temporary registration I got from CarMax. DMV says that title number doesnt exist, so I call CarMax to see whats up; they say theyre not sure and will have to look into it and give me a call. Over the course of the next several MONTHS (its now August and I still dont have the title) I repeatedly contacted CarMax for the status of the title, each time being told Id get a call back, and NEVER getting one. I would not recommend buying a car here if you actually expect you own it after your give them your money.

Ive bought vehicles before from other Carmax locations, and am normally very happy with the level of customer service carmax provides. Unfortunately the Frederick, MD location has really fallen short in their customer service. The gentleman selling the vehicle took over 6 hours to sell us the car we had reserved before walk-in. Additionally, I have now gone through three sets of temporary tags, and the Frederick location has still not completed my tag transfer with the DC DMV. I have had to follow-up for months about this issue, am always promised a call back with an update, but no one ever calls. While I might be willing to buy another vehicle from carmax, I will not be returning to the Frederick location for any future vehicle purchases.

It was really easy to navigate the website. I was looking for a used Fiat and regularly received texts whenever a Fiat was available. I found the perfect car in Ohio and ordered shipment to Frederick for a test drive. I was contacted by phone and text immediately. I received word the car delivered, went to Frederick Car max and bought the car. Simon was my salesman and he was great. I loved the part when youre done and you go to your car, theres a huge bow on the front. I am very happy with my Fiat and the service I received.

Really not happy with this carmax location right now. I had a car shipped over a week ago and still havent heard anything about it. Walked in yesterday to ask about it and stood at the front desk for several minutes. I never got greeted by anyone or asked if i needed help. I counted 6 salesman all sitting around and joking while i stood there. Went back in this morning to look at a different vehicle and again i didnt receive any help. Counted 3 sitting around this time. I usually have great experiences at carmax but im not very impressed with this location.

Update: CarMax went above and beyond in making things right. In under 40 minutes, they took care of all paper work and refunded me the price of the car. Then they also refunded me what I spent on detailing and inspection. Cant ask for more.Purchased a 3 year old Audi with 16k miles. The detailers covered up the stench of whatever happened before in this car. I know for a fact that if I tried to trade-in a car that smelled of vomit, CarMax would not give me full value. Theyd probably site that itll cost them a fortune to get the smell out of the car. Guess what, Im taking the car back.

Experience was terrible. Everything was fairly quick. The back office was very slow and they pride themselves on a speedy turn around. They just had a lot of people training. If youre looking for a sticker price on a car, this is where you want to go like if youre not interested in haggling. They have multiple auto financing options. Definitely get the Car car. Their warranty Im learning isnt long at all so Im screwed. That was a flaw on their part. Experience was okay, so three stars it is.

Absolutely terrific to work with from the minute walking in to follow up contact after purchase. I found the vehicle with the options I wanted in like new condition at a price that was fair. The Frederick CarMax online listing was 100% accurate and I went in for a test drive. Phil, my sales consultant, was great to work with, knowledgeable of the vehicle, and in getting everything in order for the paperwork. Best of all, the process was extremely efficient and did not require the misery and back and forth games that can take hours and hours like the typical car dealership. Well, very rarely do I take the time to do reviews, but I had to make an exception for this experience. I wanted to get rid of a second hand car that I had no use for. Someone reffered me to the CarMax in Frederick as they will pay for any car. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. The process was easy, but I still thought after the test drive, they would bait and switch the price on me from the online assement; however, they ended up paying me MORE than what was quoted online! This was a 2004 Malibu with several issues and almost 200k miles. I got $1k for it. No doubt if you have an old car, take it to the Carmax in Frederick! Ask for Tom and make sure to say hi to Angela. Best decision EVER. I honestly was going to give it away. So thankful I was referred here.

This was so simple. I looked over the CarMax inventory on their national inventory base and found two vehicles that I was interested in. One I voluntarily paid a transfer fee, the other was transferred at no cost. We set a day and time for me to look at them which were now located at the Frederick, Maryland lot. I made my decision, and that was it. I had my own financing. Their website offers, if I remember correctly, 2.4% to 4.7% having my FICO score of 828. They offered the 4.7% so I had my personal bank finance it for 2.4% within ten minutes. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.

I love Carmax.....purchased many cars as well as friends and family. Just bought new car and it was pulling to right and wobbling a little. It is under 90 day warranty. Found that front two wheels and back wheel were cracked. Not the tires but wheels. They corrected everything and runs great! Just wish they would have found it when inspected it to provide for purchase. They really are a good company.....fast, efficient and professional so surprised me. I would purchase from then again but would make sure all was good first.

I just sold a vehicle at Carmax. I uploaded pictures and info online first then went in to finalize it. The original quote was good and much better than trade ins at other dealerships. They kept to the quote and moved me through daily quickly. It was great to avoid all the nonsense of selling privately, especially in a pandemic. They handled paying off the loan remainder, too. I highly recommend this process versus other dealers and selling privately. I was pleasantly surprised.

Worst experience I’ve ever had with these guys, sold me a vehicle that I was told it had one owner and I come to find out a month later when I checked the carfax and auto check myself it’s had 2 owners and the second owner owned the vehicle for a month and half which is kind of suspicious, if I could give them no stars I would, wouldn’t recommend going to this carmax!!!
