The novelty of such a dessert is what makes SomiSomi stand out. The taiyaki adds a unique touch to an order of soft serve ice cream. It is both a cute and delicious addition. Although they have a fairly limited selection of flavors, each one is quite tasty. Lastly, the staff was patient and helpful during our order.
Really enjoyed having the softie in a fish shaped waffle container coated with red bean paste, Nutella, chocolate or anything of your choice. I tried berry and mango flavor, absolutely love the creamy texture with the waffle. If you don’t want ice cream then you could just order the Taiyaki (fish shaped waffle) filled with red bean paste or so. Will definitely visit again.Totally recommend to try this! Don’t forget your mask to enter.
Some of the creamiest ice cream you will ever eat. Also the most unique (at least by FRISCO standards!)At this place, they also prepare waffles shaped like fish, and fill them with a filling of your choice (Nutella, red bean paste etc). You get a cup with ice cream and the fish (with its mouth touching the ice cream) is placed on top - if that makes sense. Sorry, that’s the best I can do to explain ...and I forgot to click a photo of the ice creamThe store is super clean and inviting. Employees are friendly and there’s plenty of parking. Will go back to try other flavors for sure!
First time ever there was not an incredibly long wait outside. They are serving Mango and Honeydew this week, so we decided to stop by to try Honeydew. Extremely delicious. Its like a party in my mouth. I shouldve ordered the fish with the cup, because the ice cream melts pretty fast and can be super messy. This is a smaller location and people can tend to crowd around the door when they arent even buying.
Fresh made Taiyaki and ah-boong! Come with multiple options for fillings. Three best part is the soft serve ice cream. You can get it in a hollowed out shell (ah-boong) or by itself. Very soft and creamy. The matcha soft serve has a strong matcha flavor. Just make sure you eat it fast cause in the hot Texas summer, it will melt fast!
Lovely Japanese dessert place that features filled waffles & soft ice cream! Fillings can include red bean, custard, cookies n cream (oreo), taro, Nutella, or even cheese! Theyre delicious, I personally recommend the cookies and cream one- they cook an oreo into the waffle and it kinda melts into a filling as it cooks. Oh, and all the waffles are shaped like fish! How cute is that??
When you say ube, I come running. Somisomi did not disappoint. I had the Ube and it was flavorful. My daughter had cookies and cream, she liked it but I thought it was a bit bland.I had the ube in a cup, she had cookies and cream in a cup with toppings. We also had Taiyaki with nutella filling which was tasty.I would recommend and definitely plan on going every time we are in the area.
Finally made it inside to order my sweet treat—got the mango honeydew swirl with fish cone and coconut flakes. Now I see why it stays crowded from opening until closing! Well worth the wait! Delicious!
Would give this store 6 stars if I could. Very friendly and fast service. Ice cream and the fish ahboong is over the top of quality, really amazing me. Been here 5 times since I live in Plano but they always have the consistency in their ice cream. They also have some toppings for you to add like macaroni and flakes, really impressed by how they decorate their product. Also they still required masks as a safety procedure. This will be my go-to place for ice cream.Be advised that ice cream is made fresh to order so be patient!
Fast. Delicious. Sweet Fish.I just wish there was seating. If you love soft serve, you might come here just for that ($3) or you can upgrade it for a Japanese fish donut which is great. It has a filling too! Definitely add the fish for a nice dessert for 6 dollars. They dont skimp on filling either.Soft serve here is great. You got 6 options that can be swirled. Unfortunately you have only 3 pre made combinations. They have seasonal flavors but theyre all very good. You also have choice of filling for the fish. From Nutella to traditional red bean.
Wow, what a treat! Open late, till 10, and even though my family showed up 15 before closing, they still greeted us with smiles and happily served us. 5 stars alone just for service. But outside of that, the soft-serve in the fish cone was DELICIOUS! We will definitely be going back to try all the flavors.
Went there on only their second weekend open and was really impressed by how smooth everything was. The place was absolutely packed (like we had to ask people waiting in line to move so we could get through the door into the building), but somehow the line moved quickly. The signs/menus were helpful and pretty clear, and the service was great. I had my ice cream in my hands not even 20 seconds after I finished paying.I will definitely be back to try the rest of the flavors :)
This is a very cool place and I used to go every other week, but today was my last day Someone should remind them this is TEXAS. There is no mask mandate, but I guess the owners of the store can so whatever they want, and aggravate Texans. Two weeks ago I stopped and did not buy anything and left immediately because there was someone with a dog in the store. I find that extremely unsanitary, and I do not understand the logic of allowing animals whos tongue has probably been everywhere, and their owners trying flavors, but not people without masks. Very sad day we live in.
The wifey and I bumped into this place after having lunch nearby, and what struck her the most was the lactose free soft serve ice cream. Since those are hard to come by we went in right away. Little did we know it would turn out to be a thirst trap of the highest degree!First off, they offer interesting flavors like yam, green tea, taro, etc, and fillings to match. Then they stuff it in a baked fishy and make it look like its vomiting ice cream?! A winner in my mind based solely on appearance! The best part, as an ice cream fiend, is that the ice cream is delicious regardless of milk based or not. We went back twice and tried many flavors and fillings and they were delicious! you cant go wrong with any combination! We liked this shop so much we were musing about franchising one in Atlanta so we can eat all the product ourselves!
This was our first experience with this type of dessert. The fish-shapee waffles were delicious on their own and the filling was yummy, too. The soft serve is in unique flavors, but you can also get berry flavored. It was tasty. (Plus, you can get toppings and a tiny adorable macaroon or strawberry for free.)
One of the tastiest dessert places in DFW, a must-stop.If you go here, definitely get the Ah-Boong in a cup with the cone - I went first time with only a cone but it started melting as I went out the door! Eat it with a cup and cone, however, and you wont have to worry about your soft serve overflowing. The flavors taste great, the staff was very nice, not to mention the swirls are absolutely amazing. Im a big fan of ube so I tend to get Matcha/Ube but to be honest you cant go wrong with any of the flavors here.
Interesting.... I highly enjoyed this taiyaki dessert in red bean & Nutella but skipped the soft serve. For certain the next time. Easy parking and a convenient location in Plano. Its pretty cool how they make the taiyskis in front of you. Great concept. I will say this was very similar to the street food dessert found in Hong Kong..the waffle style fish was so reminiscent of eggactly that and sooo good. More flavors to try. Best eaten fresh & hot. Wait time was about 8 mins tops. Its evident this area is the place for treats outside of the box, I mean U.S. Although located in the U.S. Good job!!!
Its great and it tastes like your imagination.- my sons review.
YAASS, so excited that SomiSomi decided to come to the dee-eff-dub. My cousins in Cali highly recommended it to me so I had it bookmarked for my trip there but now that its here in Texas I can unbookmark it! Before SomiSomi, there was only one ah boong place in the DFW (Carrollton) and it was a hit or miss so this was a much needed addition to the metroplex.Their taiyaki is delicious! Good batter, baked to perfection, filled with ooey-gooey goodness...what more can you want? They have many options to fill your taiyaki with - I particularly like the custard. My sister loves the red bean. Its cool how they have different machines for making the taiyaki fish and the hollowed out ah boong fish. Their soft-serve is super good. I got the ube and black sesame swirl and thought both flavors tasted phenomenal together. The nuttiness of the black sesame and the faint sweetness of the ube...mmm mmm. My sister got the milk soft serve and I thought that flavor was tasty as well. Their soft serve has a good texture and thick, creamy consistency. All in all, SomiSomi is just a fabulous dessert place. If it wasnt all the way in Frisco Id probably go ALL the time. My only complaint is that when it gets crowded, the workers dont seem to know how to create an efficient system with dealing with the crowd and it can get confusing as to where the back and the beginning of the line is.
Amazing ice cream, but a nice observation was that all the staff wore masks and I really appreciated that.
Workers have wonderful personalities and they gave us masks, and deliciousice cream highly recommend this place!
SomiSomi never disappoints! I am very impressed with their consistency in quality. I have been to a SomiSomi branch in California as well, and the taste remains the same (awesome!). Great quality ice cream, and I love their ahboong! Large variety of flavors toppings, fillings, and you can customize your ice cream any way you want! Would highly recommend!
Matcha ice cream is yummy but the taiyaki is always uncooked and doughy in the center.Edit: In response to the owner. No, its not supposed to have raw dough in the center. Ive eaten taiyaki many places and many times in America and in Japan. Ive never had taiyaki with raw dough in the center. Your ahboong was cooked all the way, but the taiyaki never is. If I come here again I will probably ask them to cook it longer like you and my friends suggested. Its just silly I have to ask for fully cooked taiyaki, when that should be default.
Somi Somi offers unique desserts that Ive not found anywhere else. Their cookies and cream filled taiyaki is absolutely divine. I shamelessly visited 3 times in the last month alone! The soft serve is also delicious.I havent been to the other location but I can say the service at this one is very friendly and fast. I love that they have kept their mask policy too as it protects their staff as well as patrons.
Taiyaki will always be a crowd pleaser but SomiSomi does an exceptional job 👌🏾 A great selection of soft serve flavors coupled with delicious fillings for the Taiyaki will definitely keep you coming back to try several different combinations. Another great spot added to the legendary Dessert Row in Frisco right alongside their sister establishment Sul & Beans. Can’t wait for next time!
The idea is neat, so happy to see a soft serve/taiyaki location in the area. It might just be a preference thing but I like my taiyaki hot, and it is served cold. I do like the different flavors, but I think my overall impression is that it was okay.
Ice cream and taiyaki is great, but they lose a star because the guy who gave me my ice cream couldnt complete the physical challenge of putting a lid on a soft serve cup all the way, so my ice cream spilled all over my passenger seat. A little due diligence goes a long way.
I came here for the first time and it definitely wont be my last. I got the ube soft serve and it was just incredible. Some of the softest creamiest ice cream Ive ever had. My girlfriend got the taiyaki, which are basically stuffed pastries in the shape of fish. She got the Nutella and taro and they were both amazing. They make them fresh in front of you so you get them fresh and hot straight off the press. Highly recommended!
I love this place!Ice cream its delicious! The staff its ok.The business its clean.Bathrooms are very clean.Give it a try.You will like it.
SomiSomi is an amazing asian-inspired soft serve ice cream shop. I first had this in Los Angeles, and Im SUPER excited they came out to Frisco. They have a limit of 6 flavors each week, but you can check their website
Somehow I wasn’t in the mood for ice cream when I went, so I ordered a cheese and a taro tayaki...they were about $4 and both amazing! The shell was crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The gooey filling was just the right amount! The taro one was custard based and was quite creamy and sweet (but I might prefer the real taro taste and texture if that could be an option one day hehe). The cheese one actually surprised me for how good it is...it balanced out the sweetness from the taro one and tasted like a hybrid between a light grilled cheese and mochi cheese bread! Will definitely come back and try the ice cream day!
We have been searching of authentic taiyaki since long and fortunately we found near by us. Their process of serving ice cream in taiyaki was amazing. We ordered red beans and custard taiyaki and we like custard taiyaki most. We just visit once but we will be trying their other menu options soon as their menu was quiet easy to understand and tempting too.One thing I like about their taiyakis was it was not so sweet and it wont ache your tooth.Service I would.say I great, the person who took.our order helps us in upstanding the menu and also suggest us what to try for starters.I would say this is a great place for dessert and love to hang out with my wife on soft serve.
This is great place to bring your loved. Soft and creamy deserts, fish shaped filled with nutella and other flavors. Once I found it, been coming weekly. Love it
First timer here. My brother has tried it and said it was good. We went on a Saturday evening after dinner. The line wasnt to long but it was packed. The place is small and there are no seating. I didnt like that. They had seatings outside but in these tripe digit weather, its not ideal to sit outside with some soft served ice cream.Lets get onto the product itself. Of course you have to order the fish waffle cone. We ordered two milk and ube swirl in a cup with a fish waffle cone, and a matcha and milk swirl with a fish waffle cone and custard filling. Lets talk about the fish waffle cone, it was pretty flavorful and good. It tasted just like a waffle. The ube and milk was good. It wasnt too sweet which I liked. And the matcha flavor was good. You can actually taste the matcha. And the the custard was good it was just that there was barely any to actually taste the custard.I would recommend this place. It is a must try. Only thing I didnt like was the fact that there were no seating. One advice is that, I would share an order. It was to much for me to eat by myself.
Good but incredibly busy.
We walked in and ordered 3 soft serves with two taiyaki. The presentation was cute and the taste was pretty good (oreo was my favorite), but the ice cream melts really fast, so do yourself a favor and get lots of napkins (if youre not a quick eater, the bowls are way too small to catch the drip!)
My wife and I were in the mood for ice cream, but we wanted to try something new. We went to SomiSomi based off of Googles recommendations. The staff member explained everything to us and made the process easy.We ordered a Ube soft serve with the fish waffle cone. We added custard inside and toasted coconut in the outside. The staff member said Ube resembles Sweet potatoes. I think our soft serve tasted like vanilla, but what do I know. Ha.I would go back.
Really love this place. The fish corn is sooo amazing, its chewy and doughy inside, and crispy outside.
If youre looking for a fun new dessert idea for date night, look no further! SomiSomi serves up creamy and delicious soft serve in an exciting way. There are flavors youd come to expect, but then there are more adventurous options such as ube or black sesame, both being extremely flavorful. The best part to tie it all together, is the fish-shaped soft waffle cone filled with a filling of your choice!SomiSomi is the place to be. im always coming back and bringing friends to try the ever changing flavors and swirls!
Mask mandates are over, but this place apparently didnt get the memo. Stop forcing your fears and paranoia on people. End the mask policy, and I might consider giving more than one star.
LOVE this place!! The Taro ice cream is my favorite. This time around got the green tea and orea swirl with nutella fish filling. Lots of different options! Can you yours in a cup or cone -cup being less messy. And can choose between a solid flavor or swirled. I love their matcha ice cream because it is not too sweet but also not too bitter like matcha tends to be. They have the perfect balance! Always a cute little treat to grab dessert here and I always fully enjoy my experience! Its a small store and tends to stay busy in the evenings so plan on that for sure!
Ice cream was good but couldnt get the full experience with the taiyaki. It wasnt put on properly and fell on the streer on my way to the car. The line was too long for me to be able to get another one before my ice cream melted. There should be an option for sizes because the ice cream is way to big to finish. And secondly, they need to put the taiyaki on so that it doesnt fall. I paid so much for only the ice cream when it shouldve been for both.
Super good. Loved everything. Tried matcha and ube with coconut flakes with stuffed nutella fish cone.
I make sure to stop here every time I’m in town. The Ube is my favorite and the Oreo one is really good too. This is by far my favorite dessert spot in Frisco!!!
The ice cream here is sweet and delicious! The fish tastes like a waffle and you can add a filling in the fish (custard, nutella, red bean, etc). You can also choose between a strawberry or a macaron as a topping. I personally recommend the ube flavor. The portions are also very big. The only downside is that this place is a bit expensive.
Good place to visit and nice employee
Yummy fresh taiyaki
The soft serve and taiyaki reminds me of Japan. Got the matcha ice cream with red bean filling, which was super delicious. The taiyaki was crispy and complemented the ice cream very nicely. I really liked the matcha since it wasn’t too sweet, there was no bitter aftertaste and it tasted like actual matcha. Plus the ice cream was super smooth with no lumps. Family got Oreo filled taiyaki which was also very good.It seems like you get a lot more soft serve if you get the upside down (soft serve in the cup with the taiyaki fish on top) vs the ice cream served in the taiyaki. Tried the taiyaki filled custard but it’s not as good as the ice cream. I would give the custard filled taiyaki 4 stars and reminds me of the ones sold in Plano HMart.
Really good!! They had great service and nice employees. The building was also very tidy and clean. I ordered red bean, Nutella, and Oreo taiyaki. Would 100% go there again.
Excellent quality. Great flavors and toppings, the soft cone filled your choice of filling and a topping are really delicious and fun.The Ice cream is perfect texture and the flavor is really excellent.Highly recommended.
